Work Text:

Katsuki had not planned to awaken to the sound of an angry motor, nor by not-so-quiet swears emanating from the apartment proper. He glanced blearily at the bedroom ceiling and wondered why there was no warm body pressed up against his.

The buzzing stopped, and the silence was somehow more foreboding than the noise had been. “Damn,” he heard.

There was no escaping it. Katsuki would have to get up and see what kind of mishap his….had gotten himself into.

It took almost half a minute for Katsuki to find his pants, something that had his cheeks heating up as he remembered his haste to get them off the night before. He was beginning to feel a little anxious about what could be happening to in his apartment, so he pulled a clean t-shirt out of a drawer and yanked it over his head before making his way down the hall, trepidation creasing his forehead.

Todoroki Shouto stood in the middle of the kitchen wearing nothing but boxers and holding an electric hand-mixer, a tragic expression marring his…above-average face.

Every surface, including Todoroki himself, was covered with brown flecks of foam.

The two men stood blinking at each other, wondering who would break first.

“I wanted to surprise you with coffee.”

Katsuki waited.

“It’s special coffee.”

Katsuki walked over to Todoroki and freed the electric mixer from the other man’s grasp. Ever so patiently, he placed it on the counter next to a carton of milk and jar of instant coffee, both splattered. A metal bowl with a trickle of brown sludge at the bottom balanced precariously on the edge of the kitchen table. Katsuki calmly put it in the sink.

He did not know what to ask first, and settled on perhaps the most irrelevant.

“Where did you get instant coffee?”

“I brought it from home.”

Katsuki sniffed. It was true that Todoroki only kept instant coffee in his apartment even though he owned a top-of-the-line home espresso machine with all the bells and whistles. Come to think of it, that was probably why he relied on the instant shit.

“How did you find the electric mixer?”

“You keep it right on the rack. I’m not blind.”

Katsuki cursed his functional, yet exposed shelving unit. The last thing he needed was his… seeing Katsuki’s kitchen appliances and getting ideas.

“Let me guess. You took the beaters out of the bowl without turning off the mixer.”

Todoroki waved his hand at the bowl in the sink. “I wanted to see what it looked like, and then it just kind of exploded.”

Katsuki raised an eyebrow.

“I didn’t realize you have to turn it off first.”

Katsuki raised both eyebrows.

“Don’t look at me like that. I’ve never used one of those things before. And the videos are all in Korean.”

“What did I tell you about the kitchen?”

“Not to touch the stove,” Todoroki replied sulkily. He brightened. “That’s what’s so great about galdona coffee. It doesn’t require any cooking.”

“Dalgona coffee, idiot. How did you even hear about that?”

“Kaminari showed me TikTok videos.”

It occurred to Katsuki that perhaps he was not the victim here but rather Todoroki, who was so easily led astray by blond imbeciles with 15-second attention spans.

Katsuki surveyed his disaster of a kitchen. He knew he’d be finding dried-up froth in the nooks and crannies for days.

Katsuki pulled gently on a lock of Todoroki’s white hair where a mixture of coffee and sugar was forming a sticky clump. For good measure, he dipped down and licked some of the bittersweet residue off Todoroki’s clavicle. Todoroki shivered under Katsuki’s ministrations. Katsuki stepped back to admire his work.

“Dumbass.” He kissed Todoroki on the forehead. “Go take a shower. We’re going out for breakfast.”

There were worse ways for Katsuki to start the day off than grabbing coffee with his…boyfriend.
