Work Header

Icy Gale

Summary:

Soya Todoroki is doing what she can to live her life as a Pro Hero. With Shoto about to start at UA she does not want to still be working at her father's agency. Luckily one of her best friends is also a Pro Hero with an agency. As the two of them learn to work with each other the two of them start learning how their childhoods weren't too terribly different. Maybe the stuborn winged hero can learn how to love the bubbly, but icy cold hero. Maybe someone long thought dead can make the world spin on it's head.

Notes:

This is the first time I've written anything in a very long time. Please be nice, but let me know how you honestly think.

Chapter Text

“Soya why are you applying to be a sidekick, you and I both know you can go and start your own agency right now and it would be one of the best,” Keigo said sitting across from me at a café.

“Well I’m tired of working for dad it’s getting really annoying actually. With Shoto starting UA next month I thought now would be a great time to get out. And out of all of the agencies I would want to work for why not with you?” I shrugged.

He sighed picking up his coffee and smelling it before practically inhaling it. God Birdbrain loves coffee and chicken a little too much sometimes.

“Is it because you were going to open an agency with Touya is that why you won’t do it now?”

“Maybe,” I mumbled staring down into the latte in front of me.

“Ok fine you can be my sidekick,” Pro Hero Hawks said over dramatically.

“Yes! Looking for an apartment here I come,” I smiled.

“How about I save you the trouble you can move in with me?” he sat back grinning like he does.

This may seem rather odd if you don’t know me. I’m Soya Todoroki aka Absolute Zero currently 14th pro hero.

Soya Todoroki
Pro Hero: Absolute Zero
Quirk: Sheer Cold, much like Endeavor’s Hellfire, Sheer Cold is an ice quirk that allows Soya to project ice from her body at temperatures much colder than known temperatures. Her skin, body and hair are extremely flammable. If used for an extended period Soya will start to get frostbite.

I’m almost the oldest Todoroki child, but my twin Touya beat me by 10 minutes. Most of our lives Touya and I were trained by our old man to be pro heroes. Our quirks helped each other. I was able to cool of Touya’s burning hot skin, so he didn’t incinerate himself and he was able to warm me from the frostbite I would commonly cause myself. We also had a connection; I wouldn’t call it a quirk because it was always there. We could feel each other’s pain, no matter where it is.

We were pushed to a point as children and then the baby Todoroki. Shoto was born and we were cast aside, but we didn’t stop wanting to be heroes; we were going to show Endeavor that we could be better than him in every aspect of our lives. After the accident with mom, Endeavor took us to a facility. Where they ran tests on us and our quirks, this is where we met the slightly younger Keigo Takami aka Hawks. He was such a sweet kid, he idolized Endeavor, but I didn’t have the heart to tell him he was wrong. That was the last day I ever saw Touya. We were going to be Arctic and Phoenix, we were going to have an agency together, we were going to win. I went home with Endeavor that day.

One-night months later I woke up screaming in pain, my whole body was being burned, but I was in my room, no one was there. Fuyumi, Natsuo and Endeavour ran in to see me screaming from the amount of pain I was in. My arms, legs, chest, face; they all burned. I don’t know what was happening to Touya, but he was dying. I passed out from the amount of pain I was in. The next day I had low degree burns covering my body, one left a purple scar on my forearm. It was sometime later when I was helping Shoto with his ice quirk that Endeavor told me there was an accident and my twin was dead. He took Shoto and left me in the training room alone as I wept.

I was already one of the top of my class at UA. I met my best friend Rumi at the licensing exam, where we fought each other tooth and nail in the first part of the exam. We were evenly matched, but realized we were going to have to work together to pass, which we did barely but we did. When I graduated, I worked alongside Present Mic for some time, since I was a ranged combatant but couldn’t take all the attention. I worked for a year with Eraserhead which was nice and much less noisy. Which is where he asked me a question to this day I haven’t answered “who do you want to be?”. I ponder on this question somedays, but it just makes me feel lost and upset.

It was then that my dad took me in as a sidekick, where I’ve been for some time now. Hawks opened his agency which shocked me, he was younger than me. It was then during a rescue that we reconnected. He remembered the girl with long white hair. So, through me, Rumi and Keigo became friends, but no one knows his name, so I only call him by it when we’re alone. But since Shoto starts UA next month I’m not trying to be around my dad, I don’t want to hear it. He has me come train him or take him out to train. I’m not saying we just got get soba and catch up, but it’s a definite possibility.

“Move in with you?” I asked.

“Well yeah I have two extra rooms and I live by myself. Come on it’ll be fun, I can show you right now,” he said excitedly.

“Hawks, I don’t want to impose like that. Like fuck I just asked you to take me on as a sidekick.”

“Ohh, I was going to take you no matter what. Your quirk is helpful in many ways. Not to mention your battle prowess and strategy are excellent, which your dad is underutilizing by the way. Not to mention you are really, really good at rescues; especially in cold climates which is rare,” he said, and I blushed.

“Then why’d you ask me out for coffee?”

“Cause, I get lonely you and Rumi haven’t come to see me in forever,” he pouted before grinning like an idiot. Stupid birdbrain.

“We went out for Soba last Tuesday.”

“Forever!!!! Now come on let’s go visit your new penthouse;” he grinned before pulling out a pair of this goggles.

He was in jean and a T-shirt, Keigo is truly one in a million.

“Fine but try and go slow for my sake.”

“No promises.”

“Kei, it’s gorgeous up here,” I said staring out at the landscape as he landed on his balcony.

“Yep, the sight is amazing and it’s peaceful,” he smiled looking out toward the city.

“Why let me destroy this peace for you then?”

“You won’t, I need it. I usually get bored and go to work. Like I’d probably be at work if I didn’t have a meeting with you. Come on, you haven’t even seen the house,” he said opening the glass door letting me in.

I walked in seeing the modern esthetic and fell in love with this house. He took me on a tour and showed me where everything is.

“So, do I have you sold?” He chuckled.

“As long as you tell me I’m being problem, then I’ll move in with you.”

“Yay roomie!”
