Work Text:

Hoseok maintains that all his best plans stem from him being drunk off his ass on a Thursday night.

Yoongi would maintain that there are consequences to his actions and Namjoon would probably agree with him — the both of them are too much like a second pair of parents he never asked for but that he still loves to pieces. Seokjin would maintain that the plan is stupid but would probably be the first to help him put things in motion. Regardless of what his friends think, he’s never been one to heed advice; even when he probably should.

Which is how he ends up with a picture of a random boxer he follows on Instagram as his background and a boyfriend.

Well, a boyfriend that doesn’t know he exists and that’s probably straight.

But a boyfriend nonetheless.

Really, it’s not even his fault that he has to resort to a makeup boyfriend. At the risk of sounding conceited, the fault falls on the fact that he is attractive, a good dancer and unbearably single. It’s becoming a running theme for him to end up on the dance floor of whatever party happening on a Friday evening at their university. He always starts his night with Yoongi and Seokjin or Namjoon and Jimin — and on rare occasions, all four of them but sooner rather than later the couples usually disappear. Not that Hoseok minds, because he doesn’t but being alone after a bit too much to drink and hips swaying sensually to Chungha always draws a bit too much unwanted attention to him.

It’s after the third random guy tries to wrap his arms around his waist and whisper slurred words into his ear that he’s finally had enough. He shoves the guy off with a less than polite smile and tells him he’s not interested.

Namjoon shrugs around Jimin’s hold. “I dunno. Usually I just tell them I’m taken and they leave me alone.”

Hoseok huffs, throwing himself back and thankfully Seokjin and Yoongi are there to catch him before he busts his ass on the floor. Seokjin giggles as he holds him, a pretty good indicator that the eldest is also drunk. Yoongi groans and shoves him — albeit very gently — off of them.

“I tried that,” Hoseok says miserably. He frowns, lips pinched downwards slightly. “Why didn’t it work for me?”

Namjoon shrugs again but Jimin at the very least takes pity on him. “Well Namjoon has me as his background so if anyone ever tries to say he’s lying, he usually just shows them me.” A small smirk plays on his lips. “That always seems to do the trick.”

Yoongi snorts. “That’s because you’re a bit terrifying Jimin.”

Jimin flips his blonde hair, cuddling a bit closer to Namjoon. “I’m glad my reputation upholds and people don’t hit on Namjoon because of it. Also, I don’t regret kicking that guys ass. He tried to force a kiss on Namjoon and didn’t take me seriously. It was his own fault.”

“That’s why I have my little kitten here,” Seokjin says as he nuzzles the side of Yoongi’s face with his nose. “The moment they see this little grump, they back off.”

Yoongi rolls his eyes but shifts slightly so Seokjin can kiss his cheek. Normally Hoseok would fake gag at the small display of affection but instead his mind is running in a completely different direction. He focuses his gaze on Yoongi — it takes embarrassingly long to do so. He’s had a bit much more to drink than he originally thought.

“Do you have Seokjin as your background?” He asks Yoongi who turns his gaze on him.

Yoongi nods. “Well yeah, it’s actually the both of us.”

“Does it stop people from hitting on you?” Hoseok asks, leaning forward slightly and almost barreling into the couple for the second time.

Yoongi steadies him. “I mean—“

“Who’s hitting on Yoogie?” Seokjin says, suddenly standing a bit straighter. “I’ll break their toes.”

Yoongi rolls his eyes. He turns slightly to pat Seokjin on the top of his head until Seokjin is settled again. “I usually shut them down on my own and people don’t typically try to fight me on it. If they do, usually Seokjin is within reaching distance so they get the hint once he steps in usually. I have used my background of him to ward off people though.”

Hoseok hums, mind already hatching a fool proof plan.  The answer to all his problems is simple and he can’t believe he never thought of it before this. All he needs is a scary, intimidating boyfriend that people would be scared of. If they are scared of his boyfriend, they won’t hit on him. Really, it’s a perfect plan.

Well, except for the fact that he doesn’t have a boyfriend. But that’s just a minor detail really.

Yoongi squints at him. “What are you planning?”

It pulls Hoseok from his thoughts. “Absolutely nothing.”

He manages what he hopes is an innocent smile. The way Yoongi’s eyes close a bit more and he looks wholly unconvinced makes him assume his smile wasn’t innocent by any means.

“I don’t trust you,” Yoongi says.

Hoseok goes to retort but is cut off by Seokjin saying he wants to go get chicken nuggets loudly. Yoongi narrows his eyes one more time at Hoseok, indicating that their conversation is far from over before he turns his attention back to his boyfriend. Seokjin clings to Yoongi, peppering kisses all over his face and Hoseok uses it as the perfect distraction to set his plan into motion.

He pulls out his phone and opens the Instagram app.

🍒

“I knew I shouldn’t have trusted you,” Yoongi says the moment Hoseok let’s him in on his genius plan.

Seokjin is in the middle of a video game, so he doesn’t look away from the screen as he speaks. “Oh come on babe, the plan isn’t even that bad.”

Hoseok knew he could always count on Seokjin. Yoongi doesn’t look amused but doesn’t argue with his boyfriend. Yoongi reaches forward and grabs Hoseok’s phone from his hands. He looks at his background once more.

“Who even is this kid?” Yoongi asks.

Hoseok takes his phone back to open the Instagram app. He pulls up jeonjjk and hands the phone back to Yoongi, who takes it. Yoongi is silent as he scrolls through the profile.

“Okay he’s hot,” Yoongi says as he pulls the phone closer to his face and squints at a post.

Seokjin pauses his game. “Oh I love hot guys.” He settles next to Yoongi, wrapping an arm around the shorter and rests his head on Yoongi’s shoulder in order to peer down at the phone.  “Oh he’s totally hot. You think he’s into threesomes?”

Yoongi elbows Seokjin in the ribs before he looks at Hoseok. “Do you think he’s into threesomes?”

Hoseok snatches his phone back, cradling it against his chest. “Please don’t hit on my boyfriend.”

“He’s not your boyfriend,” Yoongi reminds him. “Also is he even gay?”

Hoseok throws himself back onto the couch. “Since I’m sure God hates me, I’m inclined to say no.”

“There’s no way he’s not gay,” Seokjin says. Hoseok turns his head slightly to look at the elder. “Have you seen his legs?”

“What does that have to do with anything?” Because yes, Hoseok has seen user jeonjjk’s legs and has maybe had a few dreams about them. Nothing weird of course because then that would be… well, weird. “He has nice legs.”

Seokjin nods. “Exactly! All straights have terrible asses and chicken legs because they think having a fat ass is like gay or something. That’s the only reason I can think of for them to all have flat asses.”

Yoongi hums, seemingly thoughtful. “You may be onto something babe.”

Hoseok rolls his eyes. “That doesn’t even make sense.”

“Your face doesn’t make sense,” Seokjin retorts like he’s an actual child. Hoseok narrows his eyes at him and Seokjin narrows his own back. Yoongi, probably sensing that both of them are about to act like idiots, cuts into the conversation.

“Don't you have to go study with Namjoon in like…” He glances down at his watch. “ten minutes?”

Hoseok shoots up from the couch and scrambles to gather his backpack and sweater. Seokjin laughs at him when he trips and Hoseok flips him off.

“The party starts at seven,” Yoongi calls out to him as he exits from the apartment and Hoseok gives him a thumbs up before he closes the door behind him.

Hoseok spends most of the walk to the coffee shop him and Namjoon frequent contemplating his life. Realistically, it’s his own fault he’s not dating someone. It’s not like the opportunity hasn’t presented itself on more than one occasion but… everyone that’s approached him just left a sour taste in his mouth. He’s dated people before, plenty of times and ignored that forewarning because he always held onto hope that it would change as time went on. It never did and he always found himself wishing he would have listened to his instincts as he nursed another broken heart.

Call him a romantic but he thinks that when you meet someone and it’s meant to work out, you’ll know upon first meeting. There should be no air of awkwardness. Not to say that it should be love at first sight because that doesn’t exist — well, unless you are Seokjin and Yoongi who swear they knew they were soulmates the first time they met. I guess spilling coffee on the pretty but scary looking blonde freshman in your intro to mechanics of music and breaking their laptop is how you find love nowadays.

Hoseok slips into the coffee shop and waves at Namjoon who smiles at him in greeting. Namjoon points at the coffee cup placed across from him and Hoseok could just kiss him. He plops down on the seat, throwing Namjoon a grateful smile as he takes a rather large sip from the drink.

Namjoon raises a brow. “Rough night?”

Hoseok finishes his second gulp of coffee before settling back in his seat. “Kind of. Stayed up late to submit my paper for theory and practice on dance education.”

“Ah.” Namjoon takes a sip of his herbal tea. “Well we also have our philosophy test coming up in three days. And you haven’t even opened your books have you?”

“That’s a rude assumption,” Hoseok says, pulling his laptop from his bag. “A correct one but rude nonetheless.”

Namjoon rolls his eyes. “I’ve been your best friend since we were six. I think I know you better than you know yourself.”

Hoseok hums as he opens the google doc Namjoon shared with him that has a study guide for their upcoming test. “Maybe that’s true but you don’t need to say it. Now help me figure out what the hell solipsism is.”

Namjoon shakes his head, huffing out a small laugh but obliges anyways.

Hoseok manages to keep his mind focused primarily on philosophy for a solid three hours before his mind starts to wander back to his current dilemma. On one hand, his plan could very well work and then his problems will all be solved. On another hand, he can’t help but feel a bit lonely. All his friends are in relationships, ones that have lasted for extended periods of time but he’s never been able to hold onto someone long enough for them to want to stay. Either that, or they want to stay but have little to no regard to who he is as a person and just like him for the superficial attributes he has.

“What are you thinking about?” Namjoon asks, glancing up from his books with a concerned expression. “You look like you’re about to have a stroke.”

Hoseok stares at Namjoon for a second before making a split decision. If he’s going to deceive people, he should start with the hardest person to lie to — his best friend.

“I have to tell you something,” Hoseok says and Namjoon straightens in his seat slightly, picking up on the serious undertone his words take. “About something that’s happened recently.”

Namjoon’s brows furrow. “Do I need to kick someone’s ass? Or have Jimin do it?”

“I have a boyfriend,” Hoseok says almost like he’s ripping off a bandaid.

“You don’t have a boyfriend,” Namjoon responds almost immediately, flipping the page of his textbook. “And you’re a terrible liar.”

Hoseok pouts. “That’s not true! I’m plenty good at lying.” Namjoon levels him with a bored look. Hoseok sticks his tongue out at him like the adult he is. “I could totally have a boyfriend you don’t know about.”

“But you don’t.” Namjoon sounds about as bored as he looks. “So what’s really going on?”

Hoseok is strong willed. He absolutely will not back down to Namjoon — even as the younger continues to look at him. Namjoon raises a single eyebrow. Hoseok cracks.

“Okay so I don’t have a boyfriend,” Hoseok finally says and pointedly ignores Namjoon’s smug smile. “But I kind of do.”

Namjoon blinks. “What does that even mean?”

Hoseok pulls out his phone and gives it to Namjoon, who takes it, expression still confused and turns it towards himself. Namjoon stares at his background for a moment and Hoseok can’t quite discern what his expression means.

“Do you even know this person?” Namjoon asks, giving Hoseok his phone back. “Like — have you ever met them?”

Hoseok snorts. He pockets his phone. “No. He’s some Instagram famous boxer. I wouldn’t stand a chance with him and I’m also pretty sure he’s straight.”

Namjoon laughs loudly at that, earning a few disgruntled stares from other students at the coffee shop. Namjoon ducks his head slightly and Hoseok smiles apologetically.

“What’s so funny about that?” Hoseok asks once all eyes are off of them.

Namjoon shakes his head. “He just doesn’t seem straight to me.”

“Yeah well, what do you know?” Hoseok says. He pulls his phone out when it dings with an Instagram notification. The boxer just posted another photo.

Namjoon snorts. “Yeah. What do I know?” He tosses a crumpled piece of paper at Hoseok in order to get his attention again. “So the party you’re going to, is it Junhong’s?”

Hoseok sighs, pocketing his phone again. “Unfortunately.”

“Why would you go to your ex's party?”

“Because Seokjin used Yoongi as a weapon,” Hoseok says forlornly.

Namjoon winces sympathetically. They have all been subject to Yoongi’s pout under Seokjin’s command. It’s wholly unfair. Who could deny Yoongi anything? It should be punishable by law.

“Then you should totally initiate your plan tonight,” Namjoon says, his eyes back on his books.

Hoseok leans back in his chair and takes a sip of his coffee. “Why are you suddenly being supportive?”

Namjoon glances up. “Because it’s a good plan. You should totally do it.”

Hoseok squints. “I don’t believe you. I feel like you’re being shady.”

“What could I possibly be shady about?” Namjoon asks as he scribbles some notes on his notepad. “Absolutely nothing. Now shouldn’t you be studying?”

Hoseok groans, already coming up with a million reasons as to why he actually shouldn’t be studying because it’s the worst, his phone starts ringing. He picks it up to Yoongi asking him to come over so they can do his makeup before the party. Hoseok uses it as means to make a quick escape, ignoring Namjoon’s glare as he promises to study extra hard to make up for the missed day.

They both know he’s lying but that’s besides the point.

When Hoseok ends up back at Yoongi’s door, it's to Taehyung opening the door. The younger shares his signature boxy grin with Hoseok as he sidesteps to allow him to come into the apartment.

“I should have known you would be here,” Hoseok says as he gives Taehyung a quick hug in greeting. “Both of them are hopeless with makeup.”

Taehyung laughs goodnaturedly and hugs him back. “Yeah. They are. But I texted hyung earlier and told him I was going to the party as well so he invited me over to get ready beforehand and Seojoon is at the gym so he won’t be able to meet me until later anyways.”

“You also demanded we feed you dinner,” Seokjin says as he walks into the living room, already dressed to go out if the diamond choker on his neck and black silk button up are any indication.

Hoseok suddenly feels completely underdressed. Taehyung must sense his inner panic because he grabs Hoseok’s hand and drags him to Seokjin and Yoongi’s shared bedroom. He immediately begins shifting through his cousins closet until he finds an oversized simple white t-shirt with a rainbow embroidered into the breast bone pocket. Hoseok accepts the shirt and changes into it quickly.

“Okay tuck your shirt in,” Taehyung says once the shirt is on. Hoseok follows orders. “Perfect. Now let’s do your hair and makeup.”

He manhandles Hoseok into the chair and immediately sets to work. Hoseok allows Taehyung to pretty him up without much complaint, already used to the treatment. Yoongi walks into the room a little after Taehyung finishes Hoseok’s hair. He’s dressed more casually than Seokjin, in just a simple black shirt on black ripped jeans ensemble paired with his signature leather jacket. His grey hair makes the outfit pop.

“Well don’t you look cute,” Yoongi says as he steps into the room.

Hoseok rolls his eyes. “Yeah. Taehyung seems really into making me look presentable today — more so than usual.”

Yoongi pauses. “You didn’t tell him?”

Taehyung glares at Yoongi and Yoongi’s lips form a small ‘o’ once he realizes he’s said the wrong thing. Hoseok turns in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest and waiting for one of them to say something.

Taehyung sighs. “Okay so I may have been dolling you up for a reason.” Hoseok raises an eyebrow, silently asking the younger to continue, to which he does with a small sag of his shoulders. “I was kinda hoping you would agree to a blind date?”

“A blind date?” Hoseok asks and he already has his answer to that. “Absolutely not.”

Taehyung frowns. “Why not?”

“Because I’ve already had my fair share of shitty relationships, I don’t need another to add to the list,” Hoseok says. Blind dates never end well and that’s not something he can handle right now. “Just let me keep my fake boyfriend and live in peace.”

“He’s a friend of Seojoon’s and you know my boyfriend wouldn’t offer to set you up if the person was shitty,” Taehyung says quickly, still trying to convince Hoseok. “They met in one of his videography courses. Seojoon says he’s wonderful and single.”

“He’s a student here?” Hoseok asks. “And your friend?”

Taehyung nods. “Yeah, he is and he’s super cute. A little awkward but nice and he has hand tattoos Hoseok.”

Hoseok pauses. He can’t lie and say he isn’t a slut for tattoos. Taehyung pouts at him, his brown eyes practically sparkling as Hoseok’s initial resistance begins to wear thin. Taehyung must see that he’s going to win this argument because he’s suddenly smiling.

“I promise you will love him,” Taehyung says as he crosses his heart. “He’s cute but he’s going to run a little late. I think he’s with Seojoon so you can use your fake boyfriend until the real one shows up at the party. Deal?”

Hoseok has a feeling he’s going to regret agreeing but does so anyways.

🍒

They are barely at the party for an hour before Seokjin is drunk and clinging to Yoongi like he’s a plush doll. Taehyung has also disappeared, claiming that he’s going to go find Jimin and hopefully his boyfriend and Hoseok’s blind date. The prospect of meeting someone new has Hoseok throwing back a shot and pointedly ignoring Yoongi’s raised eyebrow.

Eventually Hoseok breaks, as he always does. “What if he doesn’t like me?”

Yoongi’s face softens immediately. “He will. You’re cute as fuck and a genuine person. He would be stupid not to like you.”

“If that’s true, why have I been single all this time?” Hoseok asks and god, this is not a conversation he should be having at a frat party. It totally kills the vibe.

Yoongi doesn’t seem to mind though. “Because you always dated the worst guys. You never went for someone that was actually tolerable.” Yoongi places a hand on Hoseok’s shoulder. “But Jungkook is a good dude. I’ve met him a couple of times and he’s nothing like the people you usually frequent.”

Hoseok exhales. “Thanks hyung, you always know what to say.”

Yoongi doesn’t get to respond because Seokjin is kissing up his neck. Hoseok can physically see Yoongi’s attention waver as Seokjin kisses him.

“Come on,” Seokjin whines into his neck. He tugs on Yoongi’s hand pathetically, trying to urge him to leave with him. “I wanna dance.”

Yoongi sighs but the sound is only resigned, not the least bit annoyed. Hoseok is positive he can only count about three times Yoongi has ever been actually upset with Seokjin.

“You don’t even like dancing,” He reminds the elder but it’s futile — once Seokjin has his mind set on something, it’s hard to make him budge. “I don’t even like dancing. Why are we dancing?”

“Because I feel the rhythm in my bones,” Seokjin says, shaking his ass and the action isn’t seductive in the slightest, it’s more clumsy in nature. Hoseok suppresses a snort as Yoongi is dragged to the middle of the dance floor. He’s entirely too whipped for Seokjin to deny him anything he wants.

It’s cute, he thinks as he watches Seokjin succeed in getting Yoongi to the dance floor. Seokjin immediately grabs Yoongi’s hands and places them firmly on his hips before he turns and begins moving them. Even from this far away, Hoseok can see the way Yoongi’s cheeks immediately dust a pretty soft pink.

He feels a slight pang in his chest when he watches Seokjin turn and pull Yoongi into a kiss — which, he’s sure is meant to be seductive but they both end up giggling into each other’s mouths. Hoseok longs for something like what they have. He may put up a front that he’s happy being alone and to an extent he is, but who ever really wants to be completely alone? He turns back towards the bar of the frat house they are currently in with a small sigh. The music is too loud and Hoseok suddenly longs for his pajamas and the ice cream he has stored in his freezer. He knew Yoongi and Seokjin were going to ditch him, it’s something they always do and Hoseok never minds because he’s more than content in making friends. It's easy for him to make friends usually but this is the first party he’s been to since the last incident and he doesn’t feel too keen on taking to strangers. Getting groped and practically assaulted because some fuck face that thought his dancing was an invitation to touch him really turned off partying for him. At least with Yoongi and Seokjin gone he can maybe leave early if his blind date ends up turning out to be a bust.

But Yoongi had asked him to join them, because Seokjin wanted to go to the party — something about free beer and being stressed out over his first lead role in a university function. Usually, Hoseok isn’t easily persuaded (a lie, that Yoongi exploits quite too often) but… Yoongi had pouted, looking too much like a wounded kitten for him to deny him. He’s kind of regretting it now and the only thing bringing him true solace is the plan he has in place this time around.

Is it a bright plan? Probably not but desperate times call for desperate measures. And that’s exactly what he is.

Desperate.

He leans against the bar and the half drunk college student behind the bar makes him a quick drink. She’s a girl he vaguely recognizes from one of his dance courses. It tastes shitty and is entirely too strong but the girl smiles like she’s proud of herself so Hoseok swallows down his grimace. He’s happy when she turns away to focus on someone else instead of him.

He pulls out his phone, scrolling lazily through twitter and pointedly ignoring the texts from Namjoon that reprimand him for going out instead of studying for their mechanics of music course and their philosophy test in three days. It’s been such a long week and studying is the last thing he wants to do. He sends Namjoon a quick message with a bunch of hearts and Namjoon sends the middle finger emoji back within ten seconds.

Hoseok laughs. He’ll just beg Namjoon to help him cram the day before the test as he always does because that’s when he learns best. Namjoon will pretend he won’t help but he will cave at the promise of free coffee and because as much as he tries to pretend Hoseok isn’t his best friend, he absolutely is.

He nods his head to the beat of whatever song is currently playing and it’s one he doesn’t quite recognize but it’s upbeat and catchy. Just as he gets lost in his own mind and Twitter, a person slides up next to him at the bar. Hoseok doesn’t glance up, thinking whoever it is, is just looking for another drink.

“Hey,” A voice comes from his side, it comes from a man and it has him on edge. He really doesn’t want to be hit on right now — he’s not in the mood for it. “I was just wondering if you know—“

“I have a boyfriend,” Hoseok says quickly, wanting to cut to the chase without any sort of pleasantries.

“But I just wanted to know—“ The man tries again and Hoseok doesn’t want him to continue.

He turns his phone to show whoever is bothering him a picture of his ‘boyfriend’, who really isn’t his boyfriend at all but instead a person very much out of his league. A hot and unbelievably built boxer that he maybe has a small crush on, even if he’s never met him before. His crush isn’t small at all but no one but him has to know that. The boxer at least looks intimidating enough that Hoseok knows anyone with a half a brain will leave him alone if they think he’s dating him. The boxer also isn’t that well known and unless you follow local boxing closely, they wouldn’t have a clue who he is. It’s really the perfect plan.

And if they somehow do, well the boxer who goes by the golden boy has never explicitly said he was straight or single for the matter. So it’s not like anyone can really call him on his bluff.

“Uh, you sure that’s your boyfriend?” The person says and Hoseok rolls his eyes, turning to tell the stranger off for not believing him. Because what the fuck? Do people not have the common decency to respect imaginary boyfriends now?

“Yes I’m—“ The words die on his tongue the minute he finally looks at the stranger because oh god.

Hoseok can physically feel his soul leave his body as he takes in the man in front of him. It’s… well, it’s his boyfriend… who isn’t really his boyfriend but who he just said was his boyfriend. Except he’s very much in front of him wearing a white shirt tucked into very tight blue jeans with a leather jacket over it. Hoseok does everything in his power to not fully gape at the man.

Hoseok wonders who he pissed off in another life to deserve this kind of karma. Because truly, this kind of thing only happens in movies. He never signed up for his life to be some shitty K drama.

The boxer tilts his head slightly, looking completely lost but also a bit amused and Hoseok can feel his entire face burn at the look on his face. “I didn’t know I had a boyfriend. How long have we been dating? Have I met the parents yet?”

Hoseok thinks of himself as a very lucky person for the most part. He got into school and managed to convince his parents that dancing was in fact, a good thing to dedicate his life to instead of business school. He met Yoongi the first day and managed to befriend him against all odds and their completely contrasting personalities and he’s managed to keep Namjoon as a best friend since they were children. Hell, he even became the first ever freshman to lead a dance showcase.

But when he’s unlucky, god is he really unlucky. Because really, what are the odds that the boxer he has a huge crush on and that he thought was almost unreal would be at a college party. Truly, what are the odds he would even be at this particular party.

What are the odds that the very boxer he has his background set to would be the first person he tried his supposedly full proof plan to keep people from hitting on him.

“I—,” Hoseok begins but he finds he really doesn’t know what to say.

Maybe if Hoseok focuses hard enough he can become invisible or explode. Really he will take whichever comes first at this point. Maybe he can convince Namjoon to move to Canada with him and start over among the moose. Namjoon loves nature and Hoseok will even invite Jimin to come join them. Another fool-proof plan.

“You’re cute,” The boxer says and Hoseok wonders if it’s possible to spontaneously combust from embarrassment. “So I think I would recall if we were in a relationship. I would at the very least have gotten you all the anniversary presents I’m sure I’ve neglected to buy. How long have we been dating by the way?”

Hoseok blinks and the boxer smiles at him, this one obviously teasing.  You’re teasing me,” Hoseok says sullenly.

The boxer laughs and it’s hard to hear over the loud music of the party but it still manages to make his heart skip a beat. He’s completely different in person, looking more like a cute bunny than a feared boxer, even in his leather jacket and combat boots.

“Just a little bit,” The boxer says playfully. “I was just going to ask you if you knew where the bathroom was because I’m supposed to be meeting one of my friends, friends but—“

His words are cut off when another person shoves him slightly out of the way and Hoseok is suddenly faced with his ex Junhong. The one person that he had been doing his very best to avoid for the better part of the night. Really, this party just keeps getting better and better.

“I didn’t know you were coming Hobi,” Junhong says like they ended on wonderful terms.

Which they didn’t… not even in the slightest. It’s hard to end on great terms with someone who cheated on you for the entire two years you two dated. And who lied to your face even when Hoseok literally caught the both of them in the act.

Hoseok steps back, not wanting to be anywhere near Junhong. But Junhong has never been one to pick up on social cues very well and follows him. He steps even closer and Hoseok almost physically recoils from him.

“Why would you know I was coming?” He asks, barely restraining himself from snapping at the elder. “We haven’t talked in almost a year. What do you want?”

“You’re still angry baby?” Junhong asks and he is very obviously drunk.  Hoseok is never coming to a party again — they only lead to trouble. His ice cream wouldn’t do this to him.

“You know you miss me. Why don’t we go upstairs—“

“I don’t want to go anywhere with you,” Hoseok says firmly, shaking Junhong’s hand off his wrist and trying to step back from him once again. “Would you please leave me alone already? I’ve already told you I have no intention of getting back with you. Let it go. Also why would I want to go upstairs with you after all the shit you put me through?”

Junhong steps closer once again, never knowing when to quit. Hoseok wonders what he ever actually saw in him. “But why? We are both single—“

Hoseok opens his mouth to once again tell him to fuck off but in nicer terms but is stopped by a warm arm wrapping around his waist. For a moment Hoseok freezes because what the fuck else can go wrong. He’s already at his whits end and it’s only been an hour since they arrived at the party.

“Actually, he isn’t single.” The boxer says, stepping behind him and resting his chin on Hoseok’s shoulder. Hoseok feels himself relax against his body instant, even if he doesn’t quite know why. “So he won’t be going anywhere with you and you can leave him alone now.”

Junhong steps back, obviously angry by the news. Well, more like he stumbles because he could never really hold his liquor well. He glares at the hand the boxer has around his waist and Hoseok really wonders when his life became a shitty lifetime movie or Korean drama. He pretends that he doesn’t love the way the boxer’s strong arms make him feel small and delicate. He also pretends that he doesn’t smell like flowers.

“You aren’t his boyfriend,” Junhong says as if it’s fact… which it is but he doesn’t really know that. “He doesn’t have a boyfriend and if he didn’t he wouldn’t be dating you.”

Hoseok is kind of offended by that because what the hell does that even mean. The boxer is also apparently offended as well because he huffs.

“What’s that supposed to mean? I’m cute as hell. Aren’t I babe?” The boxer asks, nuzzling his nose against the side of Hoseok’s head. “You think I’m super cute right? And want to kiss my nose all the time?”

Hoseok kind of wants to evaporate right about now for the second time in less than five minutes. He should have just studied. His books wouldn’t be making him flush like a fucking tomato right now. Why is Namjoon always right about everything, it just isn’t fair. He already has dimples and height — how much more luck does the man need.

“Yes bun, you’re very cute,” Hoseok says deadpan. “And… I do want to kiss your nose all the time.”

The boxer smiles smugly against Hoseok’s cheek. He then goes back to resting his chin on Hoseok’s shoulder and tightens his grip slightly around his waist. Hoseok allows himself to rest against him and Junhong glares at them.

“Exactly! I knew you had taste,” The boxer says and he sounds entirely too amused by their current situation. “Show him your lock screen since he needs proof even though I’m obviously adorable and who wouldn’t want to date me. I’m your lock screen right cutie?”

Hoseok resists the urge to elbow the boxer in the ribs because now he knows he’s making fun of him. Jungkook snickers next to his ear and taps his waist, urging him to show Junhong the picture of him that he had seen earlier.

Hoseok pulls his phone out and shows Junhong his background. “There, now can we go? This is feeling too hallmark movie for me and I can’t stand it. I just wanted to have a nice night out and you are ruining it.”

“Yeah, you’re ruining it,” The boxer says and he still sounds far too amused.

Junhong takes a step forward, his fists curling at his sides and the boxer side steps Hoseok easily to stand in front of him. The boxer is larger in Junhong in both height and muscle in general. The boxer hardly looks phased by Junhong though but Hoseok still intervenes before Junhong has a chance to do anything stupid. He’s always been one to bite off more than he can chew.

“He’s a boxer Junhong, he could very well kick your ass twelve ways to Sunday.” Hoseok says as he sticks his phone back into his pocket and steps between the two of them. The boxer moves back easily and settles his arms around Hoseok’s waist again.  “Now Junhong we are over, why don’t you go sleep with one of the many people you slept with while we were dating if you need to get laid so badly.” He turns in the boxers arms. “And you, you’re treating me to ice cream isn’t that right babe?”

It should be weird how easy it is to tease the boxer especially since this is the first time the have met but it feels surprisingly natural. The two of them mesh well — it’s the same way he felt when he first met Yoongi. They just... clicked and skipped past all pleasantries. It’s like they had been best friends for years instead of only meeting a few hours prior.

Either that or Hoseok’s drink was spiked and he’s hallucinating this entire thing and is going to wake up in his bed — or on Yoongi’s couch with a raging headache. Which, if that’s the case, he’s going to force Seokjin to make him an omelet. It’s the very least he could do.

The boxer huffs. “You get a boyfriend and suddenly you have to pay for everything,” He mumbles under his breath and Hoseok resists the urge to snort. Junhong is still glaring at them and Hoseok rolls his eyes.

He just wants to get out of this terrible party and get ice cream. With hot fudge. And sprinkles. Just so many sprinkles.

“Let’s go bun,” Hoseok says and he doesn’t know why he keeps using the nickname. Maybe for show but the boxer doesn’t complain.

“Later dude,” Jungkook says smugly as he’s pulled away. “Stop trying to hit on my boyfriend or I’ll break your nose next time. He was right. I could kick your ass twelve ways to Sunday by the way and you’re lucky he’s so cute that I don’t want to upset him.”

“Really?” Hoseok snorts once they are far away enough from Junhong that he knows he won’t be able to hear their conversation.

The boxer winks at him and Hoseok turns away from him. He isn’t blushing. It’s just hot inside the house and there are a lot of people around him. That’s it.

“Can I at least go to the bathroom first?” The boxer whines as they walk through the house. “I just had to pee and I somehow ended up with a surprisingly strong boyfriend. Also I need to tell my friend that I can’t meet—“

“Jungkookie!” Hoseok hears come from somewhere behind them and it sounds too much like—

“Taehyung, just the person I was looking for,” The boxer… Jungkook , says as Taehyung and Seojoon make their way over to them, followed closely by Yoongi, Seokjin and Jimin.

Taehyung beams once he reaches them. “I’m so glad you found Hoseok. I’ve been looking everywhere for him.”

Jungkook pauses. “Hoseok? Your friend I was supposed to…” Jungkook looks at him before he’s laughing. “You mean my boyfriend?”

Hoseok flushes a bright red as the situation catches up with him. Jungkook was supposed to be his blind date and he just so happens to be the same person he was using as a fake boyfriend. Great. Because why wouldn’t that happen? It would be just too simple any other way.

Taehyung looks between the both of them, very obviously confused. “Boyfriend?” He turns to Seojoon. “How long have we been at this party?”

Seojoon glances down at his watch. “An hour.”

Yoongi blinks. “Well you two sure love fast. Skipping the first date before coming boyfriends is a pretty risky move.”

“Says the one who was already thinking of ways to ask Seokjin to marry him after the first date,” Jimin reminds Yoongi and the elder retaliates by pinching his cheek. Seokjin just giggles and presses a kiss to the top of Yoongi’s head.

“He’s not my actual boyfriend—“

“Wow baby, I thought I was your bun?” Jungkook says, sounding wounded. When Hoseok looks at him, Jungkook laughs.

“I hate you already,” Hoseok replies and there is absolutely no bite to his words. “We kind of… already met.”

Taehyung looks between the both of them. “Like a while ago?”

Jungkook shakes his head. “Nope, like ten minutes ago.”

“And you two are boyfriend?” Seojoon says slowly as if he’s scared both of them have gone completely insane. Which, he might be onto something there.

“Fake boyfriend,” Jungkook chirps happily. He wraps an arm around Hoseok’s waist and smiles as Hoseok flushes. “I’m gonna go treat him to ice cream as our first official fake date but I need to pee first. Wait for me babe?”

Hoseok absolutely doesn’t blush at that and Jungkook walks away with a small wave, leaving Hoseok to fend off their friends by himself. Taehyung still looks confused and Seojoon looks a few seconds from busting out laughing. Jimin also looks amused while Yoongi looks a bit bored and Seokjin just looks happy to have the attention on someone else so he can sneak kisses to Yoongi’s cheek without anyone noticing.

“Well…” Hoseok says lamely. “I’m gonna go. I’ll see you guys tomorrow.”

“Yeah you will,” Yoongi says. “I expect a full explanation and some pastries.”

He pulls Seokjin off then, presumably to get him another drink or to get him to eat something so he doesn’t feel bad tomorrow. Jimin follows them off, saying he’s not feeling it and just wants to go home to Namjoon.

Taehyung raises an eyebrow at Hoseok and Hoseok shrugs helplessly. “He was helping me get Junhong off my back.”

“And to get ice cream apparently,” Taehyung says with a small smile. “I told you, you would like him.”

“I just met him,” Hoseok says weakly. It isn’t the denial it should be but Taehyung being the wonderful friend he is doesn’t call him out on it.

“Well looks like my work here is done,” Taehyung says instead, diverting the conversation. “I want ice cream now babe.”

Seojoon rolls his eyes but he’s never been one to deny Taehyung much of anything. The both part with a goodbye and Jungkook joins him just a few seconds later, his smile still in place. He doesn’t ask where their friends went off too and just motions for Hoseok to follow him outside so they can leave.

Hoseok doesn’t know why he didn’t just leave him while the younger was peeing — he’s lying, it’s because Jungkook asked him not to leave without him and he’s a very weak man apparently. Regardless of that fact, he stayed and now he’s walking the deserted streets with the very boy he’s had a crush on for a while now. Well, as much of a crush you can have on someone you’ve never met before.

“So ice cream?” Jungkook asks, turning around and walking backwards so he can look at Hoseok.

He wiggles his eyebrows at Hoseok good naturedly and Hoseok represses the urge to smile. He fails miserably but refuses to admit it. Jungkook’s answering smile makes him almost happy that he failed to conceal his own. Jungkook has a really pretty smile.

“You don’t actually have to buy me ice cream,” Hoseok says and he finds that he means it.

Jungkook didn’t ask for this and he still played along easily. He thought he was just signing up for a simple frat house date, not whatever this is turning into. He probably he was just going to be in store for a nice hook up that would leave before the sun rose and now he’s walking the streets of New York with some guy he’s never met.

Jungkook shrugs. “Maybe not ice cream but what about diner? I know this cute dinner just down the road. It’s open twenty four hours and it has the best damn hamburgers I’ve ever eaten. Also, I’m pretty sure you owe me a fake date.”

Hoseok pauses. He does like hamburgers and he didn’t eat before the party.

“It’s twelve in the morning,” Hoseok reminds and he doesn’t know why he’s trying to get out of a night with Jungkook. It’s nerves he thinks, because he’s not used to hitting it off with someone so quickly. “Are you even allowed to eat fun things like hamburgers?”

Jungkook snorts, tilting his head slightly. “What do you mean? Why wouldn’t I be allowed to eat fun things? Also do you consider hamburgers a fun meal?”

“Because you’re all…” Hoseok waves his hand around, gesturing to Jungkook’s tight body. “I imagine you don’t look like that from eating hamburgers at midnight with a stranger you just met.”

Did he just call Jungkook hot inadvertently? The way Jungkook’s lips form a small smirk makes him think he did. He really needs to learn to keep his thoughts to himself and learn to control how easily he blushes. He can feel his cheeks burn as Jungkook continues to stare at him with an amused expression on his pretty features.

“Well I can honestly say you’re correct, I’ve never had hamburgers at midnight with a stranger but I’m a go with the flow kind of guy.” Jungkook smiles and Hoseok refuses to think about how cute it is, for the millionth time in such a short span. Or how he looks like a very small bunny. Hoseok has always liked bunnies. “Also I have training tomorrow anyways so I’ll burn the calories. Or I could burn them another way as well you know. With my very cute fake boyfriend.”

Hoseok turns an ugly shade of red at that and Jungkook laughs loudly, throwing his head back.

“You’re messing with me again,” Hoseok says, words bleeding into a whine. “That’s not funny.”

“Just a bit,” Jungkook teases. “But I feel like it should be allowed since you were dating me without my knowledge. You never even wished me a happy birthday. What kind of fake boyfriend are you?”

“I had to!” Hoseok tries to defend himself because when Jungkook says it like that, it sounds weird. It is weird but he doesn’t need to have it confirmed out loud.

“Sure you did,” Jungkook replies and it becomes obvious he doesn’t mind the situation at all.

He opens the door to the diner and Hoseok blinks, not even realizing they arrived. He walks in and Jungkook follows closely behind him. Hoseok pointedly does not think about how warm he is. It’s pretty dead, which is understandable for this time of day. It’s far too late for a normal dinner but still too early for the people out enjoying their Saturday night. Jungkook waves happily to the little old white lady standing behind the counter and she matches his energy.

Jungkook leads Hoseok to a booth near the counters. The little old lady walks up to them not even a minute later, still smiling at them with a brightness that rivals the sun. She leans over to Jungkook and ruffles his hair affectionately.

“Finally you come back to visit this old woman,” She says in English. “And with a cutie this time? You never bring anyone else but Jimin into visit me.” She turns her attention to Hoseok and smiles warmly at him.

Jungkook blushes. “I’ve been busy. I’m sorry I didn’t stop by before but I missed your cooking so much so I just had to come back.”

She turns back to Jungkook to tap his nose. He giggles and Hoseok thinks he’s having a stroke. Jungkook in his tattooed glory with arms big enough to probably crush him is giggling as a little old lady that seems to be less than five feet tall pinches his cheek affectionately. It’s truly a sight to behold.

“This is Hoseok” Jungkook introduces him. “He’s my date for the evening.”

Hoseok blushes something fierce and Jungkook just winks at him. The little menace. She introduces herself as Betty and promises to bring back a cookie for each of them while they wait for their burgers. Normally Hoseok wouldn’t eat sweets this late but he doesn’t think it’s physically possible to say no to Betty. She seems too good. It would be a crime to deny her anything.

“She’s tough as nails that woman but also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met,” Jungkook says once she’s brought them a cookie and glass of milk each. “She also refuses to stop force feeding me any sweet treat she can get her hands on. If I were to come every day I’m almost positive I would gain more weight than I could burn off. But I also don’t think I could ever deny her anything.”

Hoseok dips the cookie in his milk. “She seems sweet but also not someone I thought you would be close to.” He takes a bite of the cookie and almost moans with how good it is.

“This place is delicious, I know,” Jungkook says as he eats his own cookie. “She actually owns it but she prefers working the night shift, her son or daughter — they switch, run it in the morning. Also you don’t know much about me if we are being honest. So how would you know who I hang out with?”

“Well we could always change that?”  Hoseok counters. He doesn’t know where this sudden bout of confidence came from but Jungkook smiles at him so it’s absolutely worth it. “How did you meet Betty?”

Jungkook finishes off his milk. “I actually came in here one day after losing a match. I box,” He explains further. Hoseok pretends he didn’t already know that because that would be weird. He must not do a great job at pretending because Jungkook smiles at him a bit too knowingly. “Well, I lost and was pretty banged up and Jimin wanted to—“

“Wait, Jimin?” Hoseok interrupts because there aren’t a million Jimin’s in New York that he knows of. “Like Park Jimin?”

Jungkook tilts his head to the side slightly. It’s kind of the cutest thing Hoseok has ever witnessed in his entire life.  “Yes? How do you know him?”

“He’s dating Namjoon?” Hoseok continues, wanting the clarification and to keep himself from doing something stupid like calling Jungkook adorable. “Kim Namjoon.”

“Yes,” Jungkook says again, eyeing him a bit strangely. “How do you know him?”

“Namjoon is my best friend and also a fucking snake,” Hoseok says vehemently, already pulling his phone out to send his best friend a very strongly worded text on keeping secrets.

He also texts him about how he’s going to tell Jimin about the time Namjoon got high and cried about Jimin’s small hands for an hour. It was an embarrassing time for them both but he has pictures to back up his claims. And videos. So many videos. Payback will be sweet.

“A snake?” Jungkook parrots back. “Why is he a snake?”

Hoseok puts his phone down. “Because—“ He looks up at Jungkook and decides he doesn’t want to face anymore embarrassment tonight. “I’ll tell you at another time after I ruin Namjoon’s life. Anyways, back to how you met Betty.”

Jungkook looks confused but doesn’t question him and Hoseok is grateful for it. “Well, I came in and was pretty banged up and Jimin was trying to cheer me up so he thought the best way to go about that was milkshakes. Betty was working that night.”

“She took one look at me and insisted that she would whip up some pancakes for me instead and wouldn’t take no for an answer.” Jungkook talks about the memory with infinite fondness and Hoseok kind of wants to just… hug him. He’s kind of — actually unbelievably— adorable. “I’ve been coming ever since and it’s been about two years,” Jungkook finishes just as Betty drops off their orders.

She pinches each of their cheeks before she’s walking off to help another couple that are sitting at a counter. Hoseok takes one bite of the burger and almost moans with how delicious it is. Jungkook smiles at him, his own cheeks puffed up from stuffing food into his mouth.

“It’s good right?” Jungkook asks once he’s swallowed his bite.

Hoseok nods, taking another bite of the burger. When he swallows it he looks at Jungkook again. “This is the best burger I’ve ever eaten.”

Jungkook laughs. “I’m glad you like it. Would this qualify as good fake date food?”

Hoseok rolls his eyes. “Well I can honestly say I’ve never been on a fake date before so I don’t have anything to compare it to.”

“Really? That’s a shame,” Jungkook teases. “I’ve been on plenty. But I do have to say, you’re my favorite so far. So do you also go to our university? I’ve never seen you around.”

“Yeah,” Hoseok says as he dips a french fry in ketchup. “I’m a junior.”

“What’s your major?”

“Dance. I want to be a teacher one day or work with idols,” Hoseok says and he braces himself for the comments that always seem to follow that statement. Most people don’t agree with his line of work, or think it’s nothing more than a waste of time. He doesn’t see it that way though.

It never comes though. Instead he’s met with enthusiasm.

“That’s really cool,” Jungkook says and he sounds completely genuine. “Have you always loved to dance? Like since you were a kid?”

Hoseok is a bit taken aback by how interested he sounds. “What? You don’t think it’s a waste of a major?”

Jungkook frowns, placing his hamburger back down on his plate. “Is it something you love to do?”

“Yes,” Hoseok says without an ounce of hesitation. “I do.”

Jungkook smiles. “Then how could that be a waste?” He says like it’a just that simple. “Believe me, I've been met with my fair share of naysayers. But at the end of the day it’s my dream and not theirs. I don’t have a thing to prove to them. I just want to achieve my dreams for myself, you know?”

“That’s…” Hoseok is honestly a bit lost for words. Jungkook is truly nothing like he ever expected him to be. “A really good way to think about it.”

“So tell me more about it,” Jungkook urges. “I want to know all about how you fell in love with dance.”

Hoseok is never one to talk about himself very much. Mostly because no one has ever truly seemed interested in what he has to say but with Jungkook it’s different. He finds himself sharing more with him than he has with his own parents. He tells him about his fears that he will never make it where he wants to go because his degree only means so much. He tells him how he feels like there would be a hole in his very being if he wasn’t able to dance. He also tells him that he found dance at an early age and it’s not the only thing that helped him make it through to the other side.

Jungkook hangs onto every word and asks questions of his own from time to time. He also tells Hoseok about his own fears that come along with following his passion. How he knows that he’s always just one fight away from losing his entire career. How he hasn’t talked to his mother since coming out of the closet and how his father only ever wants to talk about boxing because he’s trying to ignore that other aspect of his son.

At one point Betty comes by and places a strawberry milkshake that neither of them ordered in between the both of them. There are two straws in the milkshake and she’s gone before either of them can protest it. Eventually Jungkook just shrugs and tells Hoseok it would be pointless to let a good milkshake go to waste. Hoseok finds that he can’t find a single good argument to that statement.

They spend hours in the diner, even if it’s only felt like minutes for them both. It’s easy to talk to Jungkook and Hoseok wonders how they’ve never met before if all their friends knew each other. They bounce easily from topic to topic — some more heavy, like Hoseok losing his father to cancer at a young age and Jungkook dealing with a crippling social anxiety throughout most of his formative years; to lighter subjects like their favorite snack after a long day and what classes they want to take next semester.

Hoseok is glad that he met Jungkook… even if it was in a completely unconventional way.

It’s a more interesting way, he tells himself, one they will probably remember for as long as they know each other. He feels like they are going to be friends for a long time. Jungkook is a delight to be around and Hoseok’s small crush might just be doubling in size. When they get ready to leave, Betty absolutely refuses to let them pay so Jungkook instead leaves a cash tip that’s more than enough to cover the cost of their meals and still enough for a rather large tip. It’s wholly unfair that Jungkook is attractive with a huge heart.

Jungkook holds the door open for him.

“So for first dates how did it go?” Jungkook asks once they are walking side by side. Hoseok stumbles. “I’ve never been on a date with a fake boyfriend. It was fun. Maybe I should have started being your fake boyfriend a long time ago.”

“It was the best fake date I’ve ever had,” He says with a smile and it’s more genuine than he thought it would be.

Jungkook beams are him. “We should have another then.”

Hoseok’s heart absolutely doesn’t leap at the thought of spending more time with him. “I would love that,” Hoseok says sincerely.

They walk a bit more and Hoseok directs them to his apartment. It turns out to be fairly close to the small dinner and Hoseok knows he will probably be frequenting it now that he knows it exists. Hoseok had tried to tell Jungkook that he would get to his apartment okay but Jungkook assured him that he didn’t mind walking him home. Which, Hoseok doesn’t mind at all. Jungkook is good company.

“Is this you?” Jungkook asks as they stop in front of a building.

Hoseok nods and begins rummaging through his pockets for his keys. When he finds them he turns back to Jungkook who is smiling at him.

“Here give me your phone, it would be weird if you didn’t have your boyfriend's phone number,” Jungkook says once their eyes lock again.

Hoseok rolls his eyes. “You could just ask for my number you know?”

“Can I have your number then?” Jungkook asks, completely nonplussed. He winks at Hoseok as he grabs his phone and Hoseok can’t think of anything witty to say.

Jungkook texts himself from his phone and goes to hand it back before he stops himself. “Wait! You know what we need to do?”

“What?” Hoseok asks, confused.

“Kiss of course,” Jungkook says like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. “Only if that’s alright with you of course,” He tacks on belatedly, his cheeks turning a bright pink.

Hoseok blinks. This night... is weird but honestly, fuck it. He doesn't even need a reason to want to kiss Jungkook. He just knows that he wants to. That it’s becoming harder to pretend that his superficial crush hasn’t turned a bit more real after being able to be with him the entire evening.

“Like... kiss?” Hoseok repeats just to be sure before he does something stupid. “Kiss?”

Jungkook nods. “Duh. We are boyfriends, we gotta do it at some point.”

“Well when you put it that way,” Hoseok says and he tries to keep his expression neutral but the way his voice shakes is a dead giveaway to how nervous he actually is.

Hoseok moves forward and Jungkook catches him around the waist easily. He pulls him closer and Hoseok goes all too quickly. Jungkook’s hand is huge on his small waist and Hoseok didn’t think he had a strength kink but now he’s almost positive he does. Especially after that display Jungkook put on at the party.

Jungkook leans closer and Hoseok can hear his heartbeat in his ears. Jungkook moves forward and this time Hoseok’s heart almost stops completely but then he feels lips gently brushing against his nose. Hoseok exhales and Jungkook pulls away with a bright smile.

“I don’t kiss on the first fake date it’s a policy of mine,” Jungkook says lightly, still holding him.

Hoseok groans, pushing Jungkook away from him but the boxer hardly budges. He places another kiss on the tip of Hoseok’s nose before he steps away completely.

“But on the third fake date,” He says with a playful smile. “I do.”

Hoseok isn’t able to say another word before Jungkook is walking away from him. He glances down at his phone when it pings just a few seconds later and he can’t help the smile that breaks out across his face.

Hoseokie [3:02]:

Goodnight bun. 🐰 🌙

🍒

Hoseok wakes up around eleven in the morning which surprises him. He’s always been an early riser, even when he’s stayed up late but it seems like his body needed to catch up on the sleep. He yawns as he stretches and goes for his phone.

When he unlocks it. His heart almost stops… which is totally dramatic and he knows it.

Cutest fake bf ever [10:01]:

Morning Hoseokie. I was wondering if you would like to go on another fake date this afternoon? Maybe study for our exams together?

Hoseok doesn’t know why but he quickly exits out of the message without responding and opens up another message thread instead.

Squirrel boy [11:02]:

Can I come over?

Squirrel boy [11:04]:

Please I’m PANICKINGNFM HELP ME

Squirrel boy [11:06]:

JUNGKOOK MESSAGED ME

Squirrel boy [11:06]:

I DIDNT REPLY HELP

Joonie [11:10]:

Come over you idiot

Hoseok knows that he is panicking.

He’s at the very least, that self aware. He can’t even say why he’s panicking because really, there is nothing for him to panic about. Hell, Jungkook kissed him on the nose god dammit, he has to at least like Hoseok somewhat. And even if he doesn’t, Hoseok has no right to care. They just met.

But yet, as irrational as he knows he’s being — he can’t particularly help it.

Which is how he ends up at his best friends door looking a little bit worse for wear after texting said best friend that he is ignoring Jungkook’s good morning texts because he’s scared. Namjoon told him he was an idiot for doing that. Hoseok told him he just wanted a hug and not to be lectured. Namjoon told him he was even more of an idiot if he didn’t show up at his apartment in the next ten minutes to get said hugs.

Jimin unfortunately doesn’t seem to be in the mood for any of his self loathing on this particular day. He takes one look at him, urges him into the apartment and crosses his arms in front of himself.

“You’re an idiot,” Jimin says with absolutely no bit of eloquence. Namjoon waves to him from the other couch and Hoseok groans.

“You told him?” Hoseok asks with a glare. “That goes against bro code.”

Namjoon looks nonplussed. “Actually bro code is not letting their bro’s be stupid and let a really good guy go because they are scared to allow themselves to be happy.”

“Stop using the word bro, what are we? Straight men?” Jimin turns back to Hoseok. “Why are you on my couch at 11 am on a Sunday morning when you could be out there asking Jungkook on a date?”

Hoseok opens his mouth, ready to come up with some sort of excuse. Like Jungkook is terrible company, or that he just didn’t click with him but… nothing he says will be the truth. He tries to rack his brain for one negative thing to say about Jungkook but he comes up short.

“I like him,” Hoseok says quietly. Jimin’s expression softens and he moves to sit next to Hoseok on the couch. Namjoon joins them only a few moments later.

“That’s good Hoseokie.” Namjoon offers him a dimpled smile. “So then go see him?”

“It’s not that easy,” Hoseok tries but the words don’t even sound convincing to his own ears.

“It is that easy,” Jimin replies firmly. He pokes Hoseok in the cheek. “Jungkook is amazing. You like him. He likes you. That’s all you need to know.”

“How do you know he likes me?”

Namjoon rolls his eyes goodnaturedly. “Well he did call me this morning to tell me that he thinks a certain boy with a heart shaped smile might be the father of his children.”

“That…” Hoseok tries desperately to come up with some sort of excuse but can’t think of one. “Could be anyone.”

“Oh my god Hoseok,” Jimin finally says, standing up and going towards his closet. “Just go to the fucking gym and suck his dick or something. I will not have you making this angsty when it doesn’t have to.”

Hoseok catches the sweater that Jimin throws at him. It’s a soft grey one. “I resent that. I would not suck his dick in a gym. That’s more you and Namjoon.”

Namjoon flushes, while Jimin, as unbothered as always, just rolls his eyes and throws a pair of ripped jeans at him. “Stop trying to divert attention from yourself and your heart boner for Jungkook and just get dressed. He’s going to be working out so try not to pop a boner when you see him training. He also likes iced americano’s from Local coffee.”

Jimin practically forces him into the sweater and out of the house with a very scary threat of shaving his eyebrows in his sleep if he doesn’t march his ass to the gym to get his man. Hoseok does so out of fear that Jimin isn’t joking with him. Jimin isn’t one to say things he doesn’t mean.

But there is also a larger part of him that just wants to see Jungkook.

Which is how he ends up standing in front of Bronze Knuckles with his heart beating rapidly against his rib cage and two cups of coffee in hand. He’s not nervous per say because that would be silly. There isn’t even a real reason for him to be hesitating this way. Jungkook and him ended last night on wonderful terms and Jungkook even texted him and asked him to hang out. He has absolutely no reason to be nervous like this.

Hoseok steps into the gym and is met by Seojoon, who's standing by the front desk. His hair is damp and it looks like he just finished his work out.

“Hey Hoseok,” Seojoon greets as soon as he’s close enough to the desk. “Looking for Jungkook?”

“Uh…” He blushes slightly. Seojoon just laughs goodnaturedly.

He clamps a hand on Hoseok’s shoulder. “He’s in the ring currently but he should be finishing up his practice match soon. His opponents never last very long in the ring with him.”

Hoseok pretends that statement doesn’t fluster him anymore than he already is. It’s just hot in the gym, which is why he feels like his cheeks are on fire. Seojoon walks him over to the ring where Jungkook is currently circling another fighter. Hoseok can't help but be mesmerized as Jungkook moves swiftly around the rink, obviously light and quick on his feet.

Jungkook ducks as the other fighter swings and he punches his opponent in the ribs. The other fighter crumbles slightly but swings again, which lands this time and hits Jungkook on the shoulder. It doesn’t deter Jungkook in the slightest and he takes his opponent being distracted for a split second to land two more hits in his abdomen. Those hits seem to do the trick because the other fighter staggers and steps away.

The fight is deemed over after that, which Seojoon explains is because they don’t fight until someone is knocked out but just to get a few good hits in. It’s a way for them to practice their techniques and defense moves.

Jungkook hadn’t noticed him at first but as soon as he spots Hoseok outside the ring, his face practically lights up. It makes something warm spread throughout his chest as Jungkook quickly exits the ring. Hoseok tries to ignore all the tattoos that cover Jungkook’s right arm that his black tank top doesn't cover.

“Hyung,” Jungkook greets as soon as he slips out of the ring. “What are you doing here?”

“I got you a coffee,” Hoseok says holding up the to go cup with a shy smile. Jungkook smiles at him widely and takes the drink to take a sip, he scrunches his nose once the liquid hits his lip and must notice it to be the one he usually orders.

“Oh god are you stalking me?” Jungkook asks but he doesn’t sound the least bit put off. Instead he sounds almost happy that Hoseok cared enough to ask one of their friends what he usually orders. “I knew it was too good to be true.”

Hoseok thankfully understands it as a joke and plays along easily. “You caught me. That’s also why I was really at the party last night. How did you know?”

“I’m going to be a detective I think,” Jungkook teases, taking another sip of his coffee.

Hoseok raises an eyebrow. “Is that really what you want to be?”

Jungkook laughs. “No absolutely not. I’ve got boxing in my blood.”

“You were really amazing out there,” Hoseok says, hoping he doesn’t come off too strong. “I’ve never seen boxing up close.”

Jungkook uses the towel around his neck to wipe a few dribbles of sweat from his forehead. “Really? I guess that’s pretty normal actually. You should come see a match sometime.”

Hoseok’s cheeks warm at the prospect of that. “Really? You would want me to come see?”

Jungkook nods. “Course. Although it might be a bit much the first time around.”

Hoseok hums. “How did you get into boxing?”

“That’s a long story,” Jungkook says. Hoseok’s face falls at the clear dismissal.

“Oh.. yeah. You must be busy. I just wanted to uh, bring you coffee to thank you for stepping in last night. You didn’t need to,” Hoseok says quickly, already taking a step back from Jungkook. “So thank you. I’ll just head—“

Jungkook grabs his wrist gently. “That’s— Sorry, I don’t mean to come off rude or dismissive. I just… get nervous around people sometimes and my mouth and brain don’t cooperate with my actual thoughts.”

Hoseok pauses because he didn’t really think of Jungkook as someone nervous. Sure, his friends all told him that the younger dealt with anxiety but he didn’t see that side of him at all last night. Instead he saw someone completely confident in himself. He likes being able to see this other side though, it means that there is still so much he gets to learn about Jungkook.

“No it’s okay,” Hoseok says easily and smiles at the younger, not wanting him to work himself up. “I shouldn’t have just assumed to know what you meant.”

Jungkook glances down at the hand on his wrist and seems to contemplate something. Eventually Hoseok finds out what when he lets his hand drop down slight and land in Hoseok’s own. He doesn’t intertwine their fingers and looks up at Hoseok with hopeful eyes. Hoseok realizes that Jungkook is giving him the choice to make the decision.

Hoseok intertwines their fingers and gives his hand a gentle squeeze. The smile that Jungkook gives him is breathtaking.

“So I was wondering something,” Hoseok says and Jungkook raises an eyebrow. “You said you don’t kiss until after the first three fake dates right?”

Jungkook smile grows. “I did say that.”

“So… what’s your policy for kissing with a real date?”

Jungkook thinks for a moment, pretending to contemplate the answer. Hoseok feels all the nerves that had been filling him earlier dissipate as he watches Jungkook play along. He doesn’t understand why he doesn’t feel scared of rejection. Maybe it’s because he knows that even if Jungkook does wind up rejecting him, it will be in the nicest way possible and that they will be able to remain friends after it.

But Jungkook doesn’t reject him.

“I think I’m up to kissing after one real date,” Jungkook finally says with a playful smile. He squeezes Hoseok’s hand. “Especially if said date includes ordering entirely too bad for us takeout and studying for finals together.”

Hoseok never thought he would be excited about the prospect of studying but he was apparently wrong.

“I would love that,” Hoseok says, offering Jungkook a genuine smile of his own.

“Then it’s a real date.”
