Dreaming

Summary:

It is night, Jotaro and Kakyoin are settling down after a Joestar family reunion, the closeness and togetherness of the celebration reminds Kakyoin of something that he must confess.

Notes:

Set after part 4, Kakyoin is alive and beautiful just as it is meant to be. It's not explicitly stated but he is a trans boy, I would like you to read it as such.

Work Text:

Kakyoin set down the book he was reading onto the bedside table as he watched Jotaro enter their bedroom, Kakyoin smiled and turned the lamp beside his bed on as the bedroom light was turned off. Cool moonlight beamed in from the open curtains and onto the edge of the bed, while lamplight shone bright against Kakyoin's face and saturated half the room in it's warm glow.

Kakyoins vision was not what it used to be after the attack he had endured on their journey to Egypt but he could see Jotaros shape climb into bed beside him, he rested his head against the pillow and gazed up at Kakyoin while he rubbed circles on the large scar across his stomach.

Jotaro was gone most of the year studying abroad and while it was hard Kakyoin had encouraged Jotaro to follow his dream and not let their lives be governed by DIO any more. It was nice to be alone with him and it reminded Kakyoin of what he might have someday after Jotaro's studies were done.

Kakyoin removed his earrings then shuffled under the covers with Jotaro. He placed a hand over Jotaro's across his stomach and cupped his face with the other and pressed their lips together in an adoring kiss.

“Did you have a good day?” Kakyoin turned to face Jotaro and the hand on his stomach circled around his waist, pulling Kakyoin closer.

“It was tiring,” his mind had been pounding all day as the Joestar family reunion was a loud one, everyone but him had been shouting over one another and screaming about how their year had been. Josuke had brought his equally annoying best friend over, Holy was holding Shizuka all the time and cooing all day over how Jotaro had grown. The only quiet person was Joseph, who unlike years before, just sat and listened, sometimes while holding his grandsons hand- which Jotaro did not mind.

“Seeing your family after a while is good,” Kakyoin had appreciated the rest of the Joestar families help while Jotaro was gone, Holy loved long phone calls while preparing meals and Josuke texted him non stop about everything- so in depth that Kakyoin often felt like he was re living his late teens all over again in an alternate world where he was able to go to school despite his injuries. He prefixed his texts with Mr. Noriaki which made him sound like a teacher. “You enjoyed seeing Joseph again,”

“Yeah,” Joseph was having a good day when they'd visited and only had to remind him once that yes, that scatterbrained, beautiful older lady was his daughter. Jotaro didn't like it when he repeatedly couldn't remember who Kakyoin was or even, who he was, thankfully that was not one of those days.

“It's very clear they all love you very much,” Kakyoin let go of Jotaro's face and smiled as he lay back down on his back “I love you very much,”

“I love you too,” Kakyoin saw, even through his blurred vision Jotaro almost smile but before he did he sat up and began shifting the many pillows behind his head before laying back down. He lightly nudged Kakyoin to roll on to his side as Jotaro wrapped his arms around his waist and settled his chin at the nape of Kakyoin's neck, his forehead buried in his red hair.

Jotaro's hands caressed the scar tissue across Kakyoin's stomach, a constant reminder of his struggle to be here in this moment with Jotaro. Kakyoin felt the slight scars over his eyes, Josuke always told him how cool they are and how the only scar he's ever gotten was when he burned himself baking cake.

Kakyoin was always thankful for the strong circle of family the Joestars built around him after they got back from Egypt. He felt like maybe he, maybe someday he and Jotaro would...

“I don't know where I would be without you,”

“You would be here, you would have attended the Joestar family gathering as an honourable Joestar. You would be there to hold Joseph's hand instead of me,” Jotaro kissed the back of his neck and Kakyoin gripped the hands around his waist.

He thought about how nice everyone was to him today, Joseph asking him in a loud whisper to hurry up and make an honest man of Jotaro before he 'climbed the stairway to heaven' were his words. Josuke kicking Okuyasu's legs under the table and every now and again catching someone who was on the other side with a rogue shin kick.

He held Shizuka today, she was very well behaved, she felt so natural sleeping in his arms or sitting up with her head against Kakyoin's shoulder. Jotaro played with her and fed her and watching him do it reminded Kakyoin so badly that he wanted to confess, he wanted to ask him if they could...

“Jotaro,” he covered his mouth with his hands in nervousness “What if we?-

“Kakyoin I can't hear you,”

“What if we had our own-” he shook, this felt too intimate and too soon. He regretted saying anything, the dizzying happiness of being around a wonderful family had loosened his tongue “I think I want to have a baby with you,”

“I-” Jotaro started, but Kakyoin stopped him before he could continue.

“No, no I don't think I want, I know I want to,” he paused to catch his breath “I want this so much, today was just a reminder Jotaro,”

“I think we will have to wait Kakyoin,” he was curt about it, his face again resting against Kakyoin's neck.

“How long?” he was getting a little too frustrated “How long Jotaro? I mean just today I had Joseph remind me that he doesn't have much time left! How long? Until you find a good job? Or we find a good home, or we get our first pet?”

“At least until I'm finished getting my degree,” Jotaro's hands smoothed down Kakyoins hunched up shoulders. Kakyoin turned his body to face Jotaro and held him very tightly, he could feel tears stinging his eyes.

“I'm sorry, this a big thing I've just told you. I'm glad I got it off my chest," a heavy sigh "It's a good idea waiting and I wouldn't want to be alone with the baby,” Jotaros thumbs wiped Kakyoins eyes.

“We will wait until I'm finished my degree, because when I'm gone, she's going to forget who I am,”

Jotaro pressed their bodies together and ran his hands through Kakyoins hair. He felt Kakyoin smile against his chest.

“You said she,”

There was a long pause until Jotaro replied.

“Well I- I think about her very much,” Jotaro sounded embarrassed, Kakyoin looked up “I think about having a child too. I have dreams where she's there with us,” Kakyoin reached over for the blanket and pulled it over the two of them, he wrapped his arms against his waist and closed his eyes.

“What is she like?”

“She has your slight curls but they're dark like my hair, she has your eyes and your beautiful long eyelashes,”

“She's so boisterous too, she copies your brooding personality sometimes I'm sure. Would she be a stand user?”

“Well, probably yes. But if she isn't I wouldn't be disappointed,”

“Ha! Yeah right! You'll get her with the arrow I bet!” Kakyoin giggled “You'll pretend daddy is giving a flu shot and then you'll get her! Better still you would stop time and do it!”

Jotaro laughed but didn't reply, he kissed the top of Kakyoin's head and reached over to dim the lamp.

“She's going to be so thankful she has a father like you, I know I would be,”

“Do you think we should get married first? Joseph wants us too,”

“Oh, Joseph Joestar- the one with the illegitimate child wants us to be married before we have our own,” the light was dim and it shone yellow and warm against Kakyoin's back and through his the strands of his hair, Jotaro smoothed a hand over his head and smiled “Though I wouldn't mind,” his voice was lower, a hand moved across Kakyoin's jawline and tipped his head up as he leaned down to kiss him again.

“Goodnight Mr. Noriaki,” Kakyoin teased.

“I think you'll find we are the Kujo's, my mother already calls us that and anyway I can't keep my nickname if I take your name,"

“Say goodnight to me as your newly wedded husband then,”

“Goodnight Mr. Kujo,” Kakyoin sighed as he relaxed against Jotaro's body. He hoped he would dream sweet dreams of their make believe daughter tonight.
