Chapter Text

“What the fuck is this?”

Daisuke glanced up from his phone as Haru stormed into the opulent living room, brandishing a sleek white card. Daisuke knew what the gold lettering on the front of it read, an invitation to the birthday party he had been planning. Haru was turning 30 in a few days and Daisuke wanted to celebrate appropriately. Haru wasn’t meant to find out.

“Hey bastard, I said what the fuck is this?”

Daisuke’s thoughts were interrupted by Haru’s angry tone. He looked up at his boyfriend, ignoring the butterflies that erupted in his stomach when they made eye contact. They had been dating for nearly 4 months now but Daisuke couldn’t help but feel weak in the knees when Haru looked at him. But he hid all of those emotions as he schooled his face into the very picture of serenity.

“It’s an invite to your 30th birthday party Haru, I wasn’t aware you couldn’t read.”

Haru’s face turned an obnoxious shade of red and Daisuke smirked. Haru was adorable when he was angry. Daisuke didn’t get to see much of angry Haru anymore, which was both a blessing and a curse. Haru’s eyes were alight with anger, the gold glimmering and making Daisuke’s heart hurt. Haru was so beautiful.

“Why the fuck am I having a birthday party at the Imperial Hotel? I didn’t agree to this.”

Ah that’s right. Daisuke sighed, trying not to let his impatience show on his face. He loved Haru, but his insistence on turning down anything Daisuke got for him was getting tiring.

“I knew you would be against a party so I organised it without inviting you. You weren’t supposed to find out.” Daisuke said, looking back down at his phone.

Haru breathed out in an attempt to calm himself down, his face a slightly less obnoxious colour.

“I don’t want to have a party at the most expensive hotel in Japan Daisuke.”

Daisuke snorted. It was a short and unattractive sound but he didn’t care right now. He was just so tired of Haru acting allergic to anything he did for him.

“Yes you don’t want to have a party anywhere do you? I try so hard to make you happy but you never accept anything I do. Do you know how fucking hard it is?”

Haru jerked like he’d been shot and Daisuke felt a glimmer of satisfaction. He usually never swore but right now he just wanted to get through to Haru and if he needed to swear to do that, so be it.

“Anytime I try to buy you something, do something for you, you don’t take it. Do you not like being with me?” Daisuke continued, refusing to look up from his phone.

Daisuke saw Haru flinch out of the corner of his eye. He knew that he had gone too far but he couldn’t bring himself to care, the feelings he tried so hard to repress spilling out. He loved Haru, he really did but sometimes he felt so unworthy of him.

“I just want to give you things. I want to treat you but it’s like you hate the things I do for you. Sometimes it’s like you hate me.”

Haru flinched, his emotions clearly written on his face. Anger, confusion, and finally sadness. He opened his mouth to speak, trying to make out the words to speak.

“Is-is that what you think? Do you think I hate you?” His voice was small and Daisuke regretted everything he said. But he had said it and he couldn’t take it back.

“It feels like that sometimes.”

“I don’t hate you Suke.” Daisuke blushed at the nickname. He pretended like he hated it, but anyone could see that it was his soft point. “And I don’t hate the things you give me. But I don’t like feeling like a charity case. That’s why I don’t like the things you give me, it makes me feel like you’re doing it out of pity.”

Daisuke stares at Haru incredulously, his previous anger replaced by confusion. He couldn’t seriously think that, could he? And yet Haru’s face and nothing but honesty on his face.

“Haru, I don’t do the things I do for you out of pity, I do it to make you happy.” Daisuke had all of this money, he just wanted to treat the man he loved.

“You don’t need to buy me gifts and organise parties to make me happy Daisuke. I’m happy just being with you.” Haru’s eyes softened as he walked up to where Daisuke was sitting on the couch. Tentatively, he straddled Daisuke’s lap and his hand reached up to caress his cheek. “I don’t need a big party idiot, a day in with you is enough for me.”

Daisuke nuzzled his cheek into Haru’s hand, pressing a tender kiss to his palm. God he loved this man.

“I still want to have a party for you.” Daisuke grumbled, trying to trick Haru into kissing him. Haru smiled fondly. He could tell what his boyfriend was trying to do and he leaned in to press a soft kiss to Daisuke’s lips.

“You can throw a small party, with only our closest friends, and no extravagance. Just a small party at your house.”

Daisuke grinned and leaned in to press another kiss to Haru’s lips. That was good enough for him.

“Deal.”
