Work Text:
Chuuya walked back to his apartment, warn out, but happy.
He had never really paid much attention to his birthday before, simply never really seeing a point to it, he didn't have parents or siblings to celebrate with, and he didn't see a point to care by the time he was with the sheep.
But when he joined the Port Mafia he made the mistake of telling Kouyou an approximation of it, and with that, there was no avoiding it.
Although awkward and strange at first, he had begun to actually look forward to his birthday, and this one was no exception,
Kouyou giving him a hug strong enough to nearly smother him,
Akutagawa awkwardly congratulated him, followed closely by Gin, with her own well wishes and an affirmation that despite her brother's cool manner, she had seen him practicing his speech in front of the mirror that morning, determined to make it perfect.
Mori told him he was proud to have him,
and even Yumeno made him a birthday card with a drawing of a large black creature playing with a small, creepy ragdoll.
And after everything that day he still had more to look forward to, Dazai had told him to come home a little later than usual, clearly planning something.
Chuuya had stopped to pick up some wine for them and took a longer route back to their home, smiling to himself as he turned the key in the door to the apartment they shared, wondering what Dazai had planned.
What he didn't expect to see was a cloud of smoke, there, in nothing but his T-shirt and boxers with a ridiculous apron, stood his boyfriend, frantically waving a fire extinguisher at the soot-filled oven and what could only be described as a flaming chocolate abomination on a rack on the counter.
Chuuya could only stand there with his mouth open, until Dazai finally noticed him and, with clouds of smoke still billowing around him, shrugged sheepishly.
"Um… surprise?"
