    Unexpectedly on a beautiful evening in Svalbard, when Lord Asriel is going about his daily chores, he hears footsteps and suddenly sees his lover Marisa Coulter in front of him, but she is not alone.

    She has her daughter with her but the girl is sick and needs her parents now more than ever before, who have to learn what they never wanted to learn, to be parents.

    Both of them go on a journey with their daughter that not only takes them back home, but also into a world of myths and legends while trying to protect their child from the Magisterium and possibly from their own family.

    But both parents also have to cope with the fact that they cannot be sure whether they can trust each other completely
