Chapter Text

Yoongi really didn't mind whether or not he found his soul mate because at his own words; "It doesn't matter, the soul mate mark is a capitalist strategy of companies to make people invest in more properties and furniture because another life was added onto theirs and with the case of heterosexual couples, it's a very strategic way of the government because this generation doesn't want kids anymore due to the rising cost of living." But as he looks at his parents who are always loving and fond of each other despite the years, he can't help but feel lonely sometimes.

He completely sulks in front of his notebook with weird squiggly lines he cannot comprehend anymore due to the fact that his brain burned the first hour of trying to, at least, memorize what's written on the thin dead tree. He tried to avert his eyes from his parents but he just cannot help it, he really wanted to try having a relationship because in his twenty-plus years of being alive, not once did anyone notice him or appreciate him at least. Now, in his college, he saw everyone practically coupling up, each with their own set of soulmate marks on their wrist compared to him whose own ones are blank and pale.

The television his parents were watching was about a game show wherein each person tries to find his/her soulmate with a piece of deadwood clasped in between their fingers with the statement they want to be embedded onto their wrist. He squinted his eyes trying to read the statements and was bewildered when someone actually wanted their soulmate to say "Edward Cullens forever" and someone with a bunch of numbers "061313".

Now that Yoongi thinks about it, the game show was actually smart because he wouldn't want his soulmate to say shitty things that he will forever see. He ponders about what he wants his soulmate to say...

Should he just settle with a quick and classic 'hello' or 'hi'?

Should he just settle with an over the top saying?

Chapter 4: what should he say

Chapter Text

He cannot just pick one now. He sighed and slumped back to his notebook, his mother alerted from the sound, lifted her head and saw her son pouting and staring into nothingness. She smiled fondly and walked away from her husband's hold onto her son. She took the seat next to him and smiled at Yoongi.

"What's wrong?" She asked sweetly, Yoongi pouted harder and buried his face onto his hands, murmuring a quick 'nothing'.

Yoongi's phone suddenly chimed alerting both of them. He glanced at it and felt his eyebrows rise to his hairline.

"Shit," Yoongi quickly got up and pushed all of his belongings into his bag. "I forgot we have a group meeting today."

"But it's a Saturday morning!" He heard his mother whine.

He chuckled softly and stated; "It's not like we have any time during the weekdays."

He heard her hum in response. "Okay, take care."

"Thanks,"

And he got out of their house. He walked to the station, patiently waiting for the bus to stop by. He couldn't help but notice how everyone was silent around him. Despite the people lining up and waiting for the bus, no one was letting out a sound except for a couple who was obviously each other's soulmate judging by the marks in their wrist. The game show his parents were watching probably got much impact than he expected because now people just stayed silent, afraid that their words will unintentionally be in someone's wrist.

As Yoongi glance towards the people, he noticed how each of them have tiny papers probably containing statements that they want on their wrist. Minding his own business, he felt someone tapped his shoulder, he glanced behind and saw a person looking at him expectantly. Before Yoongi could even utter a sound, the person waved their hands wildly before pointing out the paper containing the words; "Good morning!"

Say "Good morning!"

Ignore the person because they might be a scammer

Chapter 5: Good Morning!

Chapter Text

“Good morning,” He stated rather dumbly and the stranger smiled in appreciation before expectantly looking at their wrist. They frowned but then glanced to look at Yoongi again.

”Aw, ” They stated and then continued with; “Is this the station to get to the university?”

Yoongi nodded silently. He would know since he is heading towards there too.

”Thank you,” The stranger said and then minded their own business again.

Once the bus arrived and people filing into empty seats, Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows when he saw that the stranger was awkwardly avoiding eye contact as they sat next to Yoongi. He couldn't help but clutch his backpack tightly afraid that the stranger was some snatcher or something.

"Where- where are you heading?" The stranger mumbled and Yoongi wouldn't even hear it in the first place if it weren't for the bus being so silent. "If you don't mind me asking,"

Yoongi sighed softly and mentally chanting; 'be nice, be nice,'. As he looks at the stranger quietly, he saw that they are actually a kid. There was some baby fat left in their cheeks but as Yoongi recalls earlier, the stranger was actually a lot taller than Yoongi. Giving the stranger the benefit of the doubt and thinking that they were harmless, Yoongi answered;

"To the university as well,"

At this, Yoongi practically saw how their eyes light up, and then they unconsciously shuffled closer to Yoongi. Yoongi asked the stranger calmly; "What's your name?"

"I'm Jeongguk!" They said with a small wave making Yoongi's lips curl up slightly.

"I'm Yoongi-"

"Can I call you 'hyung'?" Jeongguk asked suddenly and Yoongi couldn't help but think that 'does he look that old already?'.

"Okay," Yoongi said and offered another smile to the younger. "Say, you're new here, right? What is your business at university?"

"Oh, I'm actually a second-year transferee!" Jeongguk said with a smile and Yoongi felt the bus stop as it started to drop its passengers. "I'm actually from the online program."

Yoongi nodded in understanding. "We are here,"

"That fast?"

Yoongi only chuckled and then Jeongguk got up and let Yoongi lead the way. Once the two are stepping into the ground and the bus rumbling back to life and leaving the university premises, Yoongi said; "If you want, you can ask me anything and I'd gladly help."

"Really?" Jeongguk practically had stars in their eyes and was beaming at Yoongi despite the obvious height difference.

"Yes, sure." Yoongi nodded. "Here's my number."

"Yey," Jeongguk said and took out their phone. The two exchanged numbers while walking and when it's time to part ways, Yoongi obviously leading the way to Jeongguk's designated place, Jeongguk waved sadly and then said their good bye's.

"See you around, hyung," Jeongguk said. "Thank you."

"No problem," Yoongi nodded and walked away from the younger. Yoongi walked to where his group was and seated on the farthest left, trying not to draw attention to himself and was surprised when he saw his friend, Namjoon, smiling at him, a couple of seats away from him. About an hour passed and soon, the leader was thanking the members for going. Yoongi immediately left the room and was talking to Namjoon when he saw Jeongguk awkwardly trying not to look awkward.

"Jeongguk?" Startled, the younger immediately raised their head and flashed Yoongi a large smile.

"You know each other?" Namjoon said.

"Yes, why?" Yoongi asked.

"No, I'm just surprised because Jeongguk is my classmate in the online program," Namjoon replied and offering a smile at the youngest.

Jeongguk said; "Hi, hyung."

Namjoon waved at him before Jeongguk turned to look at Yoongi.

"Hyung, I couldn't help but feel guilty so," Jeongguk closed both of his hands together. "Can I treat you somewhere, Namjoon-hyung can come too?"

♡ "Sure, why not?" ♡

♡ "You don't have to, it's fine." ♡

Chapter 6: Ignore the person because they might be a scammer

Chapter Text

Yoongi chose to ignore the person and he couldn't help but feel guilty when the stranger let out a quiet pained sound. Once the bus arrived and everyone practically shuffling over to get to their seat, Yoongi seating next to the window to the farthest from the door since it was the only free one left. Yoongi was just quietly glancing at the window and looking at the road, he felt somebody took the seat next to him and when he looked over he saw the stranger awkwardly settling on the seat, avoiding eye contact with Yoongi.

Yoongi bit his lips and moved his eyes away from the stranger and tried to focus back on looking at the road ahead of him. Once his stop was nearing he mindlessly said 'excuse me,' to the stranger since they were occupying the space and Yoongi mentally facepalmed when he saw them gasping and trying to look at their wrist. Once they saw that it was blank and unchanging, they moved to make space for Yoongi and glanced at the window.

Their eyes widened and then patiently waited for Yoongi to step out, once he did, they, too, followed behind Yoongi.

Yoongi furrowing his eyes in confusion, clutched his bag tightly, afraid that the stranger might actually be a snatcher or a scammer or something. Yoongi immediately jogged away once his shoes touched the ground and went to their group's meeting place.

An hour after the meeting, Yoongi shuffled out of the room along with his groupmates when he bumped into something solid.

"Hyung!"

Yoongi having to glance up to see the person, said; "Namjoon? What are you doing here?"

"Shit, hyung," Namjoon chuckled before placing his arm on Yoongi's shoulder, practically pulling him to his direction. "I've been trying to get your attention for the hour or so yet you didn't even notice me."

"We are groupmates?!" Yoongi incredulously said.

"Yes," Namjoon replied and looked up and his eyes widened before breaking another smile. "You want to go to the coffee shop? I've been craving their coffee for a week now."

Yoongi sighed before agreeing with the younger.

"Oh, it's Jeongguk!" Namjoon suddenly yelled

Yoongi, confused, stared to where Namjoon was looking at and saw the stranger who he chose to ignore earlier. His eyes widened and looked at Namjoon; "You know them?"

"Yes, we are classmates in the online program," Namjoon replied. "Is it okay if I bring him with us?"

Yoongi, feeling guilty that he chose to ignore Jeongguk sighed and then nodded; "Sure."

Namjoon smiling at him before practically pulling Yoongi along with him. "Jeongguk!"

The stranger looked up with a startled expression before his lips curled up in a smile. "Namjoon-hyung, what are you doing here?"

Namjoon laughed and then said; "We have a group meeting here, you?"

"I'm transferring here from the online program..." Jeongguk said and then his eyes glanced over at Yoongi, lips parting slightly.

"Oh, that's great, Jeongguk!" Namjoon said. "This is Yoongi-hyung, one of the friends here."

Sighing, Yoongi waved his hands awkwardly before silence engulfed the three of them immediately.

Namjoon, not even noticing how awkward everything around him is, stated; "Yoongi and I are going to the coffee shop near the university, do you want to join?"

Jeongguk bit his lips in contemplation before nodding.

The three were on their way of walking to the shop when Yoongi was starting to warm up to Jeongguk. Offering them small replies and smiling once he saw Jeongguk looking at him. He learned that Jeongguk was younger than him and Namjoon also learned that the two already met -laughing once he heard the story. Nearing the shop, Yoongi stated; "If you want, I can show you around the university if Namjoon's not available."

"Really, hyung?" Jeongguk said before retracting; "Wait, can I call you 'hyung'?"

"It's fine." Yoongi waved them off.

Namjoon was the first one to open the door to the shop and the aroma of the coffee almost immediately burned their senses. Once on the counter, they saw a pink-haired stranger smiling over the other side of the cashier.

"I'm Jimin and I'm the cashier for today," 'Jimin' smiled at them before looking at Yoongi, who was the first on the line, expectantly. "May I take your order?"
