Work Text:
Today is the day.
For the last five years of Yoongi’s life he has been looking forward to this day. Everyone and anyone who wished to fight for their kingdom was granted the chance to join the Royal Guard for training. Protecting Asaris was a great honor and many people took pride in that, as they should.
But only a select number of people were chosen to go straight to the Castle. More often than not the people were sent out to defend the Kingdom from wars, and to clean up from the previous ones.
Yoongi, however, was lucky. He was granted the opportunity to move straight to the castle thanks to his quick skills with fighting, defending, strategy making, and courage.
From a young age, it was Yoongi’s dream to work in the castle. To be able to guard the people who ran it and kept it in top shape. He felt it was a duty he owed to them at least.
Sometimes, though, Yoongi often wondered if he was making the right choice. Was joining the Royal Guard the best idea? Would he miss the opportunity to meet his soulmate if he was away guarding a palace or out somewhere else? Or would this chance be his for the taking? Would joining the Royal Guard be the thing that brings him closer to the one he’s to love forever?
Honestly, Yoongi didn’t know.
But he had hopes that this was the correct decision. That everyday he watches the timer on his wrist either go down or stay the same is for good reasonings. He’s scared to see it go up, scared to watch as the numbers grow as he gets farther away from his soulmate thus making their meetings take longer. He wonders how his soulmate would feel about that.
From the look of the clock that rests above Namjoon’s bed in their barracks he can see it’s nearly nine in the morning. That meant, very very soon, the head of the command — General Jeongguk — would be calling for them all. After five years of training, they have all been deemed ready to go off wherever they are assigned.
Yes, it’s very common for people to be sent off before their training is finished. But that’s mainly when things are going south and a request for more guards is filed. If not, then most of them stay and finish their training. After all, this was the Royal Guard. They needed to be the best of the best.
Luckily, Yoongi and Namjoon never needed to be sent off before their training finished.
Running a hand down his yellow and white uniform, Yoongi stares in the mirror they put on a spare wall. He looks from his eyes to his hair and back again. Honestly, he doesn’t look too good. His nerves were so high last night, wondering where he was going, if he was going somewhere good or somewhere bad. Mind racing as he thought about his soulmate. He wonders what they do for a living. Are they happy? Surrounded by people they love?
Yoongi decides, he can at least fix up his hair properly. It’s just a mop of dark brown hair that should be cut but hasn’t yet because he refuses. He knows it doesn’t look good when he goes against what he’s told, but honestly it’s not too long, and it doesn’t go past regulations much. Maybe General Jeongguk just doesn’t actually care anymore or maybe it’s because Yoongi’s best friend is Namjoon and that happens to be Jeongguk’s boyfriend.
But nobody mentions that to the others. There could be dire consequences for that.
The bedroom door opens up abruptly, Yoongi stares in the mirror still focusing on his hair as he quickly tries to fix it up as Namjoon comes into focus. “Hyung,” he says, breath failing for him. He leans over on his knees trying to regain it as fast as possible. Yoongi turns away from the mirror to stare at him confused and worried.
Why was Namjoon running? Surely he could have just walked, right? Jeongguk hadn’t called them yet. They still had a few more minutes before they were required to be outside for their meeting.
“What is it?” He watches as the raven haired male straightens, placing a hand on his chest as he intakes a heavy breath and then releases it. Namjoon was the only person and friends — besides Jeongguk, but he couldn’t really consider him one — that stayed by his side throughout the five years of training.
They became quick friends during the first couple of nights here, especially after realizing they would be sharing a room together for their entire stay. They have been through a lot together. Training, endless amounts of training that led them to wonder why they even bothered to signup. They shared chats with each other that went deep into the night leaving them both dead exhausted to continue with their training.
Yoongi can still remember the day Namjoon barged into their bedroom with wide eyes and tears on his face within the first week of them being there. He can still hear the way Namjoon’s voice cracked when he explained that he ran into Jeongguk accidentally and his timer hit zero because they’re soulmates. It was the first and only time he’s ever seen Namjoon cry, and he never wants to see it again. He’s always been weak for his friends or family crying and he never knows what to do.
He remembers the way they were supposed to attend a meeting that night with Jeongguk but ended up not going because Namjoon couldn’t bear to be near him for the time being. He remembers cuddling with Namjoon until he calmed down by telling him stories of his childhood. Of times when he and his family used to go to a beach and splash in the water without a care in the world.
Now he’s in the Royal Guard defending their Kingdom wondering if they’re still doing okay.
A huge part of Yoongi wonders if he would have been able to get through these last five years without Namjoon. Surely, he would have, but having Namjoon with him made it a lot easier. Sometimes, he wished that Namjoon was his soulmate.
“Joon, what’s going on?” Yoongi asks again, taking a few steps closer to him. His hair isn’t perfect yet, but honestly with the way that Namjoon looks like he might pass out his hair is the least of his worries. “Why are you out of breath? Did something happen with...” he lowers his voice, “Jeongguk?”
Namjoon shakes his head quickly, running a hand throughout his own cut hair ruining the way he styled it. Yoongi doesn’t bother to comment on it though, instead he shifts his weight from one leg to the other as he awaits an answer from the younger.
“The King,” Namjoon says, inhaling another breath. He clears his throat as if he’s calmed down now and continues, “Our King is here. We’re supposed to be out there now. Jeongguk doesn’t know why he’s here or what’s going on honestly, but we need to go.”
A gasp escapes Yoongi as he stares at Namjoon in shock. Their King was there? Why? He usually never attended these things, it was always left up to Jeongguk to figure out everything. So, why was he suddenly here? And what did he want? Did something happen that the King needs to discuss with everyone? Perhaps another war was brewing and everybody was being sent out.
Yoongi glances into the mirror, deciding that yes he needs to fix his hair properly before he heads out there because that’s their King he would be in the presence of. He doesn’t want to look sloppy in the slightest.
He rushes to fix any stray strands that wish to not cooperate, mentioning a quick note to Namjoon that he too needs to fix his own. With his hair finished, he straightens out his uniform a bit more trying to make it look as straight as possible. He adjusts his collar, and then his sleeves. Or rather, his left sleeve. The right one catches his attention.
All uniforms covered the timer on their wrists. They were busy defending the land, they didn’t have time to think about their soulmate. Yet, Yoongi did both of those and seemed to be doing a pretty good job at training nonetheless.
While fixing his hair, his sleeve rolled up a bit and with that came the sight of the numbers.
01:38:37
Yoongi stares at the numbers in shock. One hour? That’s the lowest it’s ever become in his life. What was supposed to happen in one hour that would lead to him meeting his soulmate. Did it relate to the fact the King was here? It changed so dramatically he wasn’t expecting it.
He opens his mouth to say something, anything to Namjoon about it, but before he has the chance he hears.
“Hyung, we need to leave now. We’ll be lucky if Jeongguk doesn’t count us as tardy.” Namjoon says, hurrying towards the door once again. His hair is slicked back properly, not a single strand out of place. Unlike Yoongi, Namjoon actually kept his hair the proper length.
Yoongi nods his head quickly, following after Namjoon in hurried steps. He closes the door behind them not bothering to care whether it’s locked or not. It’s not like anyone would come in and try to steal something anyways. They’ll all be out listening to what Jeongguk and the King have to say.
Luckily, for the two of them, not everyone has made it out yet. Yoongi can’t tell if that’s making the King impatient or not but he seriously hopes it’s not. He doesn’t wish to make the King angry on the day they’re supposed to be getting orders.
Namjoon and Yoongi find themselves in the front, beginning the lines that will stretch multiple rows back and to the sides. There’s quite a large number of people who were training in the Royal Guards these past five years. Sometimes, Yoongi is surprised that they all manage to fit into his area.
Lining up, Yoongi can see Jeongguk and the King discussing something amongst one another. Periodically, they’ll look in the direction of him and Namjoon but they don’t make a move to say anything directly to them. The action makes Yoongi nervous. Are they talking about him? Was Jeongguk saying good things or bad things about him?
He tries not to worry about it too much. For now, he has to keep a straight face and wait to figure out what’s going on like everyone else.
It seems he doesn’t have to wait that long anyways.
“Good morning everyone!” Jeongguk beams, as the rest of the people enter the room and get lined up. They all stand straight up with their arms at their sides. “As you all know, yesterday marked your final day of training. Which means today, you will be given orders on where you will be stationed.”
He steps away from the King, coming closer to Namjoon and Yoongi who happen to be in the middle two rows. It wasn’t intentional, it just happened and yet they both get a clear view of Jeongguk when he’s in General mode. It’s a lot different than when he’s just being himself — Jeongguk — the man who became general at a very young age and enjoys too much banana milk. Though, Yoongi can see why Namjoon loves him. Even he has a soft spot for the General.
“I’d like to first off, thank you for your service. For wanting to defend our Kingdom. Everyday people thank us for keeping them safe, and now I’m thanking you.” Jeongguk beams proudly. It’s moments like this that Jeongguk is happiest. When he gets to take pride in something he’s sculpted. And that’s this very room of people, the Royal Guard that he trained for the last five years. All the hardships, and struggles with being taken seriously have now passed.
“Second,” Jeongguk begins walking by the rows, voice staying as loud and proud as was even when he was standing in front of Yoongi and Namjoon. “Our beloved King has come to say a few words. You will give him your attention and respect. After King Park gives us his words, I will start issuing your orders.”
Yoongi looks away from Jeongguk to King Park as a nod passes between the two of them. If Jeongguk is still giving out the orders then there is no war going on. There’s nothing serious going on. So why was King Park even here?
“Thank you General Jeongguk,” King Park says, taking a step forward. His hands are behind his back, head held up high as he walks in front of the rows staring them all down. Yoongi shivers as they make eye contact. The King can be intimidating some times. “As everyone here knows, my son, Crown Prince Park Jimin, has come of age recently. The delighted twenty-one which means he’ll be looking for his soulmate and potential spouse.”
Ah, so that’s it.
Yoongi wants to let out a sigh of relief knowing that it truly is nothing serious or dire, but he knows he shouldn’t nor can. He holds his tongue as he waits for King Park to say some more.
“Though we have alliances with most of these Kingdoms, I personally think it best we assign more guards in the castle. And my son needs one himself.” King Park continues, he turns around from the row he was walking back. He doesn’t say another word until he’s right in front of Yoongi, eyes falling to him. “You, you are Min Yoongi, correct?”
Yoongi tries to hide the fact the breath he inhales is shaky but he’s not sure he succeeded. The King does not make a comment. “Y-yes sir, I am.” He answers, eyes locking with the King’s. Though he’s intimidated he doesn’t break their eye contact. He wouldn’t.
“Relax boy,” the King says, a small smile pulling at his lips. “General Jeongguk mentioned you excelled in your line of training. He said you were the best of the trainees these last five years.”
His cheeks flush at that. He definitely doesn’t think he was the best, but he doesn’t say otherwise. Surely Jeongguk knows where this is going, that’s why he mentioned it.
He was going to say ‘thank you’ to the King for relaying such a message but before he’s granted the chance, the King opens his mouth and continues with what he was saying.
“How would you like to be Prince Jimin’s personal guard?”
Yoongi can’t contain his face then, shock and surprise overtake him and he loses composure. The King wants him to guard Prince Jimin? He turns his head to Namjoon, who also broke composure. His best friend smiles, nodding his head in encouragement. A glance towards Jeongguk says the same thing.
Clearing his throat, Yoongi quickly regains himself. He locks eyes with the King once again and says, “It would be an honor, Your Majesty.”
Maybe he did make the right choice.
—
Much to Yoongi’s approval, he finds out shortly later that Namjoon is also being moved to the castle. Though he won’t be a personal guard like Yoongi himself, he’ll be staying inside the castle at all times. It brings a smile to his face knowing they won’t be getting separated anytime soon.
He honestly doesn’t know what he would do if Namjoon wasn’t with him. How is he going to handle the Prince? He never in his life expected to be guarding him! That was a distant dream and yet... yet he was currently packing up his belongings to head there straight away.
The castle and the training grounds weren’t too far from each other. They weren’t supposed to be after all. If anything were to happen the guards from here would need to get to the castle as soon as possible. Yet, for the guards that worked inside of the palace they had a separate ground for sleeping inside the castle.
Technically, the guards would consider their sleeping quarts the basement. But from what Yoongi has heard it quite cozy so he doesn’t mind that much. At least he knows he still has Namjoon.
“I can’t believe you’re Prince Jimin’s personal guard now!” Namjoon cries, stuffing his small suitcase with his clothing and other things that he wishes to bring with him.
After today they wouldn’t be returning to these training grounds. This was only for those training to be a Royal Guard, not for those who have already been stationed somewhere to train. They have other places — especially in the castle for them.
Although, Yoongi already knows Namjoon will be returning lots of times just to see Jeongguk. Yoongi won’t lie, he’s definitely going to miss the younger. Maybe during times he’s not guarding Prince Jimin he’ll join Namjoon in coming to visit him.
Jeongguk is a friendship that he truly values.
“I’m just as surprised as you are,” Yoongi comments, closing up his own suitcase. He never really owned much stuff. Mainly it was just clothes and some books that he picked up on the days they weren’t training. He never saw a reason to keep valuables in the chance that he was sent somewhere else and they got destroyed.
He sets the suitcase on the ground, letting it roll around on its wheel as he checks the room once more for anything. They both decided to leave the mirror where it was, saying that whoever ended up taking over this room at a later time wouldn’t need to worry about putting one up. It’s their gift from one set of trainees to the next.
The sight of his sleeve rolled up once again leaves Yoongi curious once more. Has the time stopped going down? Has it maybe gone back up? Or was it still the same? It couldn’t be the same anymore, he knew that much. So it meant either up or down.
Yoongi doesn’t know if he wants to know.
If it goes up that means his soulmate isn’t at the castle and he’s not sure when he’ll get the chance to meet them, but if it goes down that means his soulmate is at the castle. Were they possibly a worker? Or was someone visiting? Sometimes the castle was opened up for the people of their Kingdom to visit. Prince Jimin seemed to quite like that tradition because he got to meet his people.
He inhales a breath, eyes catching that Namjoon is now done with his suitcase as well. That meant they would be leaving soon. They wanted to head off together. Maybe they would get lucky and share a bedroom once again. Yoongi hopes they do anyways.
Closing his eyes for a short moment, Yoongi pries back the sleeve of his uniform. Slowly, he opens his eyes open and looks at the numbers on his wrist.
26:42
Only twenty-six minutes until he met his soulmate. Which definitely confirmed what Yoongi was thinking.
His soulmate is at the castle.
Now he’s more nervous than he thought he would be.
—
The trip to the castle takes exactly twenty minutes. Yoongi knows that because now his timer says there’s only six minutes until he meets his soulmate.
He’s shaky as he enters the grand hall of the palace. Originally, Jeongguk had wanted to drive them both to the palace but seeing as there really was no rush to get them over Yoongi and Namjoon decided to walk.
It was quite refreshing for the two of them. To be in the life of others, hearing them sing their songs, dance or do business. It was a reminder of what they have been training years for.
It also was a way to calm Yoongi down, but seeing as his timer keeps going down he begins to think there will be no way for him to calm down.
Unfortunately, as soon as they enter the castle Namjoon is being led in one direction taking both of their suitcases after Yoongi was told he’s going directly to the Prince who happens to be in the middle of his lessons. He feels a bit bad for interrupting the prince while he should be working, but the guard who takes him there says not to mind much.
As they walk towards where Yoongi assumes the prince is, he constantly keeps his eyes on the timer. He watches as it slowly counts down further and further until they’re all three minutes and twenty-nine seconds left. He inhales a shaky breath.
Was whoever his soulmate is in the same room as Prince Jimin? Because surely his soulmate isn’t the prince. That’s just crazy.
They stop in front of a door, the guard opens it up, instructs Yoongi to follow the rows until there’s a clearing and that’s where the Prince will be. He bids the guard a quick thank you and then enters the library following the rows.
All the rows are piled high with books and more books. A small noise of awe escapes Yoongi as he looks around. Maybe whenever he has a free moment he’ll come in here and snatch a book or two if possible. He would love to uncover what mysteries are in store.
He doesn’t realize he’s come to the clearing until two people are looking in his direction. One with bright purple hair and the other with golden blonde. Yoongi’s eyes immediately drop onto the Prince, it’s easy to recognize him.
“So you’re my guard,” the Prince says, standing up from the table. He starts walking towards Yoongi slowly.
His eyes drop to the timer.
00:05
No. No no. This can’t be happening.
Another step from the Prince.
00:04
Yoongi feels his heart racing his chest. He doesn’t even care about the fact that he probably looks crazy just staring at his wrist. He’s not even in the correct stance, he’s slouched over and honestly does not care right now.
00:03
This cannot be happening.
Not Jimin. Not the Prince. Anyone but the Prince.
00:02
Yoongi looks up as he sees Prince Jimin’s shoes appear in his view.
00:01
“I’m Prince Jimin,” He greets happily, a smile wide on his face. “It’s nice to meet you.”
00:00
It’s true.
Prince Jimin is his soulmate. The one person he’s been wanting to meet since the countdown began and yet...he can’t believe this.
Of all the people...it had to be the Prince.
“No,” Yoongi steps back, shaking his head furiously. The other guy who had been sitting with Prince Jimin is now standing up, worry and confusion written across his face. It mimics Jimin’s.
“What’s wrong?” Jimin questions. He outstretches a hand to reach out for Yoongi but he stops once he notices his own countdown.
Yoongi hates how curious he gets even though he knows they’re going to be the same. Both 00:00 that’s now faded from black to a bright yellow. A colour that connects the two of them. He wonders if that’s because Jimin is a Prince and the Kingdom colours are yellow and white or because yellow fits the two of them.
He doesn’t know though.
The Prince inhales a breath, lowering his hand down as he stares at Yoongi. He’s surprised Prince Jimin is taking this so well. Maybe he should be too but that’s a bit hard considering what the truth held in store for him.
He clasps his hands together, looking at Yoongi with a small smile. A second later, he’s turning to face the purple haired male. “Can we finish this in a bit, Seokjin? My guard and I have something to discuss.”
The purple haired male — Seokjin — seems almost reluctant to even move from his spot. But after a moment he nods his head slowly and begins leaving the room. It’s quiet in the library, nothing but the sound of Seokjin’s retreating footsteps echoing in the room. Yoongi still hasn’t said a word. He’s not sure what to say.
“What’s your name?” Prince Jimin questions. He walks away from Yoongi and heads back towards the table that he was working at before the interruption. Part of Yoongi wishes he could turn back time and prevent himself from entering.
Yoongi inhales a nervous breath, running a hand through his hair ruining it completely. He doesn’t care though, and if Prince Jimin doesn’t comment on it then it’s not a problem. He straightens up, or tries to anyways, he’s still under shock from this new information.
“Yoongi, Your Highness.” He murmurs, staying under his spot. He doesn’t follow the prince over to the table. He doesn’t think he has to or should. Instead, his eyes wander around the library once more. The things he would do for a book right now. To have the chance to get lost in it. “Min Yoongi.”
“Min Yoongi,” The Prince repeats. He closes whatever book was in front of him and turns to face him once again, “So you’re my soulmate.” He wears a bright smile on his face at the words, happiness radiating from him. “I must admit, I wasn’t expecting my soulmate to become my personal guard, but I guess that’s a good thing.”
Yoongi tilts his head, “And why is that?” He wonders, bringing his hands together. He folds them in front of him, eyes moving from the books to the Prince that stares back at him.
“I can trust you with my life.”
The guard can’t help but smile a bit then. That’s true to say the least. Yoongi won’t let anything happen to Jimin, but he never planned to to begin with. Now that he knows they’re soulmates doesn’t change much.
Or does it?
“Unfortunately,” Jimin begins. He lets out a soft sigh, shaking his head back and forth. “We can’t have our happy ever after, yet.”
“I-I didn’t expect to, Your Highness.” Yoongi says quickly. It’s true, he didn’t. And now he’s not really sure if they’ll ever get a happy ever after. Though in all honesty he would love to get that one day. “W-we barely just met. It would be safer if we started as friends.”
“Yes, it would.” Jimin agrees, nodding his head. “But it’s not just that.”
Yoongi blinks in confusion. His hands unfold and he takes a step forward. What else is there to this? Surely he thought it was just because they don't like each other. There’s more factors that lie in their way of happiness?
“My father,” Jimin speaks. Yoongi lets out a long drawn out sigh. Maybe he should have expected that. Maybe not. “He’s weird when it comes to soulmates. He wants me to marry well. A royal, no less. He thinks leaving things up to soulmates is dumb.”
“Why?” Yoongi wonders. Soulmates are an amazing thing. Why would someone think that it’s dumb? Doesn’t everyone want to find their happy ending? Their other half? Isn’t that what him and the Queen were? Yoongi was sure they were soulmates, weren’t they?
“Soulmates leave our kingdom open in a way. That’s what my father thinks.” The prince begins explaining. He walks around the table back and forth drawing Yoongi’s attention with every single step. The prince is captivating, there’s no doubt about it. He’s very attractive and honestly, Yoongi doesn’t think he compares to him. “How do I explain this?”
The Prince stops walking, one hand falling onto his hip while the other goes to his chin in thought. He lets out a small hum as he tries to think of a way to think everything through. Yoongi doesn’t rush him, he doesn’t see the need to. And besides, he’s curious on why they can’t be together besides that one factor.
“Soulmates do not care whether one is royalty or if one is not. Which means, anyone could be my soulmate. Someone from a different Kingdom could be my soulmate, someone from the town, or someone like you...my personal guard.”
Yoongi lets out a hum. It’s easy to understand what the prince is trying to explain but it doesn’t mean that he likes it that much. The King doesn’t seem to want Jimin to be with anyone that isn’t royalty, even if that is his soulmate.
Yoongi doesn’t think it’s fair.
Doing that means taking another two people from their soulmates.
He tries not to get angry at the fact but that’s a bit hard. The Prince should be able to be with his soulmate if he wishes to.
“What do you plan to do then?” Yoongi questions, arms crossing over his chest. All forms of formality, proper composure, stance or anything that he was trained during five years is completely gone as he stares at Jimin curiously. What are they going to do? Surely if that’s the case the King would make him leave as soon as he found out. And he’s only just got the chance to come here. He doesn’t want to leave yet.
“I’ll do what I have to do.” Jimin explains. He turns to meet his eyes. They’re brown and full of determination. But Yoongi can see the hint of sadness in them as well. He feels it too.
Even if they did become closer and fall for each other there’s no chance for them being together. The King would surely never approve of such a thing.
“My father is having suitors come. Mainly royals who haven’t yet found their soulmate. He wants to see if maybe one of them happen to be my other half,” The Prince walks over to one of the chairs and takes a seat in it. His fingers find the book he was previously reading and messes around with the pages. From where he’s standing, Yoongi can see it’s a history book. Something he’s not too fond of. “I’ll just say no every time. It is the truth anyways.”
“But what if one day he finds out you’ve already found your soulmate? What then?” Yoongi questions. He rounds the table, standing on the other side from where Jimin is. He’s starting to hate the silence that falls between them as he waits for an answer. Anything really. What are they going to do if the King finds out they are one?
“If that time comes then I’ll handle it.” Jimin reassures. A tight smile pulling at his lips. He opens the book up and stares down one of the pages, skimming through the words. Yoongi knows he’s not retaining any of the knowledge that he’s reading but it keeps the prince busy. “I know it’s not ideal. It’s not something either of us want I’m sure. But it’s what we have to do. All I can offer you right now is my friendship, Yoongi.”
The guard brings a hand up to rest at his temples. He inhales and exhales a breath. In a matter of a day he got the chance to become the Prince’s personal guard, found out the prince is his soulmate, and that he can never be more than friends with his soulmate. It’s a lot for one day, but he attempts to handle it. It’s all he can do right now.
With a nod of his head, he hears the sound of footsteps approaching. Looking over to his left, he sees that Seokjin has returned with a small tray of snacks. Of course, he can’t take up more time than he already has. Jimin has lessons, and he needs to stand guard.
But there’s one thing he wonders about.
“What if the time arises where our feelings change? Would you give us a chance?” He questions, as Seokjin places the tray on the table. Jimin looks up at him surprised, “I’m sure we could think of something to tell your father if that came up. I don’t want to miss the opportunity because we live in fear.”
Jimin and Seokjin share a look for a moment. And even though Seokjin isn’t exactly sure what the conversation was about he nods his head. A way of encouragement that leads Jimin to say, “Yes. If things between us change then yes. I’ll want to take that chance. You are my soulmate after all.”
Yoongi smiles happily at that.
All is not lost, yet. They still have a chance for a future together.
He just hopes that chance works in his favour.
—
It’s weird to guard the person he’s supposed to love. Weird to know that Jimin’s life is in the palm of his hands should there ever be an attack on the castle. Luckily though, within the last three months of him being stationed here there hasn’t been. And part of Yoongi hopes there never will be one.
Surprisingly, or maybe unsurprisingly he gets along with Jimin easily. They find out there’s lots of things in common between the two of them. Their love for books — which leads to them spending most of their time in the library reading anything their hands can grab, and once they have finished reading they share the story with each other.
They share the same love for sweets and though Yoongi isn’t supposed to be given the same sugary treats as Jimin was, there were times they would both sneak into the kitchen to get them. More times than not though, Yoongi stood patrol outside while Jimin went in to get them their snacks.
Whenever Jimin was busy attending his lessons or doing other things around the castle Yoongi found himself enjoying the prince’s company. And not in the guarding way. They actually did stuff together to keep busy. They would sometimes take walks outside, do more reading, admire the flowers in the garden that Yoongi has grown to love, or sometimes they would end up cuddling in Jimin’s bed.
He would be lying if he said he didn’t look forward to cuddling Jimin every now and again. It’s the only time they’re ever intimate. Only time he feels like their chance as soulmates could become more. In all honesty, he wishes it could become more now. Every moment he’s with Jimin, every second, he wishes to be with him. He wants them to be a them. But he knows there can’t be. At least not yet.
Truth be told though, Yoongi doesn’t remember how that first started. Nor does he remember how it became a thing after that first time, but on rare occasions when Jimin knows he can get away with Yoongi being inside his room instead of guarding it they will cuddle together and just talk. Their talks always differ. Sometimes it’s random things they’re thinking about, sometimes Jimin will tell him about the things he’s been doing as a Prince. The things he’s supposed to do and whatnot.
He never realized just how much work Jimin had to do to keep their country in good condition. He never realized how hard being a Prince actually was. Sometimes he’s amazed at the younger.
He’s not sure how he would handle having such a big weight on his shoulder. But then again, he supposes he does as well, because if something happens to Jimin the Kingdom could crumble. And it’s his job to protect the prince.
One plus about being Jimin’s personal guard is the fact that whenever he gets training, Yoongi gets training. And more times than not Yoongi and Jimin train against each other.
It’s fun to train with Jimin. But it’s also different, a bit harder. When Yoongi used to train with Namjoon they could handle a few scratches and scarring that would come. Yet, when he trains with Jimin he has to maintain himself. He can’t risk getting Jimin injured. It would look bad for the both of them.
Though that ultimately means that Jimin wins everytime, and he takes pride in that.
But honestly, Yoongi doesn’t mind losing every time they fight with each other. He really doesn’t, as long as he gets to see Jimin’s smile then it’s worth it.
—
“Prince Kim Taehyung of Glacion.” A guard announces, as the tall brown wooden doors open leading from the Grand Entrance. Yoongi shifts uncomfortably. He hates seeing suitors come for Jimin to see if maybe there’s a chance they’re soulmates.
Of course no one knows that Jimin has already found his soulmate. No one besides Seokjin anyways. Yoongi learned quickly that Seokjin was his mentor and his best friend in the palace. He was someone they could easily trust, and Yoongi did.
Part of Yoongi was growing tired of having to hide such a detail. Such a huge thing. He wanted to proudly state that “Prince Jimin is my soulmate and I wish to be with him”, but he knows he can’t. Knows that until they figure out a good way to convince King Park to allow them to be together they can’t say anything.
It doesn’t make watching potential suitors any easier though.
And as more months pass since Jimin’s twenty first birthday the King is inviting more and more suitors to come. Just last week Prince Hoseok was here and was completely bummed out when he realized they weren’t soulmates. Apparently his timer was going down as he got closer to the castle. Yoongi wonders if he did eventually find out who his soulmate was.
It’s the same old routine at this rate when suitors come. So old that Yoongi ends up zoning out throughout the majority of it.
The Prince or Princess that has arrived will present a gift to Jimin before their initial meeting. A gift that he’s supposed to receive should they be soulmates. Jimin never pays the gifts any attention though, there’s no need to when he knows he won’t receive it.
Once the gift is deemed suitable for such arrangement the suitor is brought into meet Jimin. Luckily for the two of them, no one attempts to look towards Jimin’s wrist. If they did they would notice that it shines yellow, the 00:00 permanent on his skin now. But it’s Yoongi’s to match. No one else’s.
Was it hard for Jimin? To see all these people coming hoping for the chance to find their other half only to be let down when Jimin reveals his countdown didn’t reach zero? Did he wish his father would stop this already?
Did he wish they could be together already like Yoongi wishes too? That they didn’t have to hide anymore and could be together?
Yoongi wishes that more than anything. He wants to be with Jimin. He wants to hold his hand, and do more than cuddling. Don’t get him wrong. Cuddling is nice but he wants to kiss Jimin, wants to show off to the world that they’re together. He wants to be able to go out into town when he’s not guarding Jimin and buy him something.
But he can’t.
And he hates it.
—
“Hyung?” Jimin’s voice calls. It drags Yoongi out of his thoughts and brings him back to reality. He blinks slowly, looking around the room hoping nobody is looking in their direction wondering why Jimin’s guard is doing nothing but standing around like an idiot.
No one is looking though.
Instead, the room is being cleared out. Prince Taehyung has a grim look on his face as he leaves the Throne Room to head off to his room that he’ll be staying in for the night. Even if they weren’t soulmates, the Queen had been adamant about letting the suitors stay at least one night. They made the trip out here in hopes, they deserve a chance to relax and rest.
Jimin has a concerned and curious look on his face. There’s no lingering trace of hurt or sadness in his eyes from confessing that he and Prince Taehyung are soulmates. Maybe Jimin is used to this at this rate. He’s had so many suitors for the last three months, Yoongi wouldn’t doubt that chance.
“Are you okay, Hyung?” Jimin questions concerned. His eyes are laced with worry. It’s a ocean in his eyes and Yoongi is swimming in them right now. He’s the reason for such look. “You seem spaced out the entire time Prince Taehyung was here. Are you feeling alright? Maybe you should head back to your room for now?”
Yoongi shakes his head, because no he doesn’t need to rest. And yes, he feels perfectly fine. He just spaced outfit a little bit. Drifted off to the land of what ifs, and wondering. Does Jimin do it too? Does he ever sit in his room or think while doing lessons about things that could be?
“I’m fine,” he musters with a smile. He straightens his position, hoping that the King hadn’t looked in their direction and saw him slouched over. He’s tried his hardest to stay on the King’s good side over these last few months. And he would like to say he’s doing a great job as well. “How did things go? You know...since I was spaced out I wasn’t paying attention.”
“About the same honestly.” Jimin explains, he motions with a hand for Yoongi to follow him. He does immediately. “Prince Taehyung came with high hopes that I would be his soulmate but ultimately I wasn’t. Sometimes, I don’t understand why they even bother with the trip.”
“What do you mean?” Yoongi questions, a confused look spreading on his face as they leave the Throne Room. He doesn’t know where they’re currently going, but he also doesn’t make a comment to ask. He’ll find out eventually anyways.
“Well, the countdown obviously says how long you have until you meet your soulmate. It could be years, months, days, any time really. I think they forget about it.” Jimin answers. He holds his hands behind his back as they walk around the staircase towards a door leading to the back of the castle. It takes them straight to the garden.
Yoongi’s favourite place.
And maybe Jimin’s too.
It’s the one place they’re really able to talk about anything they want without having to worry about others overhearing. That and Jimin’s bedroom but they can’t stay in Jimin’s bedroom as often as they would like.
“Like if your countdown says one month and you come to see me as a potential suitor in three days, it’s not going to change. We aren’t soulmates.” Jimin continues, aggravation pouring from his voice as the guard at the back door opens it up for them to go out of. Yoongi bids the guard a quick thank you as he walks by.
“Of course you aren’t soulmates,” Yoongi says, following Jimin through the rows of roses, tulips and daisies. He lowers his voice before continuing though he doesn’t know why. No one can hear them anyways, “You already know who your soulmate is.”
“Yes,” Jimin confirms, nodding his head. He takes a seat on one of benches beside the rows of roses. Yoongi stands beside him looking out at the view of all the flowers.
Every time he came out here the sight never failed to amaze him. Flowers of all different shapes and sizes and colours filled the garden. A rainbow of sorts that Yoongi loved. He loved being able to come out here as he pleased and admire everything.
It was definitely one of the places he could come and relax. A place of happiness.
Even more so when Jimin was with him.
After all, Jimin was the epítome of happiness.
“That’s why we came out here actually,” Jimin begins, inhaling a breath. He pats the open space between them telling Yoongi to come and sit beside him. He’s reluctant for a moment but truly his legs are tired from standing all day so he takes a seat after a moment.
He stares out at the flowers, eyes moving from one set of roses to another. He knows he’s not supposed to touch them, knows that their a prized possession in the castle and yet, Yoongi can’t help but pluck one from its stem and hold it out to Jimin. A small smile etched on his face as the prince stares at it.
“You could get in a lot of trouble for doing that,” Jimin teases, but there’s a smile in his eyes. All worry and concern has been washed away, as if it were something written in the sand and the ocean covered it up. His cheeks turn a light pink as he takes the rose into his hands, bringing it up to his nose to smell. “But it’s pretty so I’ll let it slide just this time.”
“Thank you, Your Highness.” Yoongi replies, lifting his eyes from the rose to Jimin. He stares at his features. At the way his eyes turn into moons when he smiles, at how his entire face lights up when he smiles. He stares at the blonde hair that isn’t styled properly so it falls into his eyes.
Yoongi lets out a small sigh. He wishes he could kiss Jimin right now.
“Can I be honest with you, Hyung?” Jimin questions, eyes focusing on the flower in his hands instead of Yoongi. Early on in their friendship, Yoongi had encouraged Jimin to refer to him by Hyung instead of Guard Min. And in turn, Jimin had granted him the permission to use just his name and not his title. Though whenever he was around others — besides Seokjin — he always made sure to use his title. He didn’t need others to suspect anything.
“I would prefer you to be, yes.” Yoongi answers. He places his hands on the bench and lifts his head up towards the sky, inhaling a deep breath of fresh air. He loves coming outside. Loves being surrounded by the nature of the world. Sometimes he wishes he and Jimin could come train outside rather than stay cooped up in the training room they have to offer, but he never mentions it. Maybe one day he will though.
The Prince lets out a sigh, biting on his lower lip as he figures out and gathers the words to say. It’s never easy. “I don’t want to see suitors anymore.” He speaks up after a dull moment of silence falls over the two of them. Yoongi jumps at his voice. He wasn’t expecting the prince to start talking all of a sudden.
Yoongi doesn’t say anything in response. He lets Jimin continue because he knows for a fact that the younger isn’t done speaking what’s on his mind. And he knows that Jimin hates being interrupted while he’s talking. After all, Yoongi does too. So, silence it is for now.
“It’s so heartbreaking to see how fast their hope in me falls. To watch as their faces break when they realize their countdown never reached zero.” Jimin continues, just like Yoongi had assumed. His lips pull into a straight line as he listens to the younger speak. “And my father continues to do it. Every single time a potential suitor pops up my father is insistent on requesting they come visit. And I...I’m tired of that, Hyung.”
“I just...” Another sigh escapes the Prince as he, too, looks up at the sky. There’s clouds gathering. A dark grey colour that shows a storm will be coming soon enough. It’s ironic that such a storm would appear when Jimin is pouring his heart out. “I don’t want them. I want you.”
I want you.
The words echo in Yoongi’s ear and for a moment he feels like it’s thunder. A big booming noise that continues to ring for a few moments before he realizes that it’s indeed not thunder but Jimin who spoke those words aloud.
I want you.
Was that truly how Jimin felt? Did he really want him? Or was he just saying that because he’s tired of all the suitors coming and going? Was he tired of everything?
Slowly, hesitantly, Yoongi lowers his head from the sky to look towards Jimin. He’s not sure what to think of that sudden confess. He’s not sure whether he’s supposed to believe it, act on it or completely change the subject. After all...it was Jimin himself who said they couldn’t be together. Why was he suddenly saying things like this?
“W-what about your father?” Yoongi asks timidly, butterflies rising in his stomach as one of his hands curl into a fist. The bench is cool to the touch and yet Yoongi feels like his body is burning. Sweat drips down the back of his neck as he awaits an answer. Was Jimin saying he didn’t care what his father thought anymore? Or did he have an idea on how to tell him and make him see things were ok. That they could be together. “The King. Jimin, I-... you said we would wait.”
Jimin nods his head slowly, holding the rose up to his nose once again. If Yoongi had a camera right now he would be taking photos of Jimin. With the lighting from the sun, the grey clouds that are soon going to downpour on them and the rose in Jimin’s hand he’s sure the photos would look exquisite. And yet, he doesn’t own a camera so he can’t take any photos.
He’ll have to buy one next time he goes out to town.
“I don’t know.” Jimin answers quietly, eyes falling to the ground. The keeps at a free stone watching as it rolls out of reach. A small huff escapes the Prince as he shakes his head. “I don’t know, Hyung. But I...I don’t care. I want you. I want us. You’re my soulmate. Not all these people who keep coming to see me.”
“I know I am.” Yoongi rolls up his sleeve to stare at the countdown on his wrist. The yellow 00:00 stares back at the both of them. Their colour. Yoongi is beginning to understand why it’s yellow to begin with. “But I thought we were waiting until we had a way to-“
“I don’t care about that,” Jimin cuts him off abruptly. He turns on the bench, looking from the rose straight into Yoongi’s eyes. There’s a look of confidence and determination in them. “Listen to me Hyung, you’re my soulmate. You’re my friend, my guard and the guy I like. There’s only so much my father can do. He can’t change that you’re the one I’m tied to.” He reaches out and places his hand on Yoongi’s wrist, covering the countdown from their eyes. “Besides, if we announce it to my parents while others are in earshot there isn’t much my father can do. The people want me with my soulmate. Not someone else.”
“But would they even work?” Yoongi questions. He has a feeling the King would still manage to pull something off if he was that determined to make Jimin marry someone of the same status. But would the Queen stop him? Would she make him see reason? Yoongi has never understood why a King and Queen meddle with their Prince’s love life to begin with. What was the point?
They already have to rule an entire Kingdom. Why can’t they choose who they want to rule with?
“Maybe. Maybe not.” Jimin shrugs. “It doesn’t matter. I want to try, Hyung. But I...I also don’t want to force you into this.” The prince gives a shy smile, “I want you to want an us before we do anything drastic.”
“I do.” Jimin looks startled by his quick reply, “I want you. I want us. I have for a while but I stayed quiet about it. I didn’t want to push or force you.”
“So we’re doing this then? Us. You and me. And then we’ll tell my father?”
Yoongi nods his head slowly. There’s only so much the King can do. At least to keep them apart from each other. If he hates the idea that much Yoongi might be stationed elsewhere but even that won’t stop them from communicating and figuring out a way to be together. And then once Jimin becomes King himself he could find Yoongi and bring him back.
Jimin scoots closer to Yoongi and intertwines their fingers together. He leans his head against Yoongi’s shoulder and holds the rose up with his other hand. “It’s quite pretty, isn't it? Our gardener does a great job of caring for the flowers. I’ll have to ask for a vase for this one so it doesn’t die that fast. Though I’m sad it will now.”
Yoongi smiles softly, “Some people are worth dying for.” He replies, eyes falling to the flower. “You’ll be gifted with it’s beauty and soon it will wilt. But the memory of what it was will still be there.”
“I suppose that’s true.”
The two of them fall into a comfortable silence after that. Hands intertwined with one another as they enjoy the peace and quiet of the garden. It’s relaxing. Nice, Yoongi thinks. He could stay outside like this all day if he was granted the chance. There’s nothing he would complain about it.
That is, until he hears voices. Both loud and soft. But they aren’t coming from him or Jimin, and he knows they aren’t coming from behind them. A quick glance behind him tells him he’s correct. There aren’t any guards outside. No one else from the castle is outside beside the two of them.
He squeezes Jimin’s hand tightly, abruptly standing up as he looks around. Eyes narrowing in on anything he suspects might be what he’s hearing.
“Hyung? What’s-“ Jimin begins, but Yoongi holds out a hand to shush him. He needs to concentrate. If Jimin talks he’ll lose whatever he is listening for.
“—get in through here. They won’t be expecting it.”
“—right. Let’s go!”
Yoongi whips his head to the right just as people begin climbing over the wall.
“Shit.” Yoongi curses, he grabs Jimin’s arm and pushes him the direction of the entrance. “Get inside! Now!”
Jimin looks towards where the intruders are coming from, and for a second he hesitates. Yoongi opens his mouth to tell him to leave again, but before he can, Jimin is grabbing his hand and pulling him with him running towards the door.
The rose that Yoongi had picked for him falls from his grasp and lands on the ground.
They make to the entrance before the intruders get to them. Luckily, the guards that had been inside heard Yoongi yelling and alerted the others about the attack. Guards begin lining up ready to defend Jimin, and Yoongi knows he needs to do it too.
“Jimin,” Yoongi breathes, body in panic mode but he tries his best to remain calm and collected. He needs to focus on Jimin first. “Go hide in your room. I’ll come get you when it’s safe, okay?”
For a moment, it looks like Jimin is going to refuse. Like he’s going to protest that he should stay here because they’re defending him. But Yoongi gives him a stern look, eyes pleading for him to go upstairs and hide so he’ll stay safe.
Yoongi knows better than to do what he’s about to. But this is the first time he’s ever gone into an actual battle and truth be told he’s a bit nervous. A bit scared something is going to happen. Jeongguk always said the real thing wasn’t exactly like their training, and now he was truly going to witness it. This wasn’t fun and games.
This was life and death.
And Yoongi had to win.
He watches as Jimin takes off upstairs leaving him and the other guards alone with the intruders. Honestly, he knew one day this was going to happen. Knew that one day he would have to let all of his training lead him to victory. He never expected to be protecting his soulmate, now lover, and prince though.
Drawing his sword from its sheath, Yoongi helps the guards as the intruders invade the castle. He keeps an eye on the staircases watching carefully in case anyone makes an attempt to go up them they aren’t in the correct uniform. Yellow and white. The enemies were red and black. It’s quite a difference.
He attacks the first intruder that he sees being mindful of all the gaps and openings that arise between the two of them. He can’t think about Jimin right now or he’ll lose his concentration.
A block.
While the intruder he fights with focuses on bringing himself down with brute strength Yoongi locates an opening and manages to sweep the enemy off his feet. He finishes him off before there’s a chance for him to regain himself.
Yoongi inhales a shaky breath as he stares down at the intruder. He glances between his sword and the man once then twice. A life lost.
He doesn’t feel good about that.
He’s supposed to be defending people not hurting them.
The sound of rapid footsteps approaching draws Yoongi from his attention on the intruder. He’s always had quick reflexes which saves him from a blade coming close to him. He blocks it and holds his breath.
He can’t focus on the lives that they’ll lose right now. He knew it would happen, and he has to accept it.
They’re the enemy.
He has to protect Jimin, the King and Queen.
That’s his duty.
—
Yoongi doesn’t know how many people have come to invade the castle. He doesn’t know why so many of them are here anyways, but it doesn’t matter. He tries not to focus on it but he never realized how tiring this could become when he fought so many at one time.
He’s running out of breath. And with it, it gets harder and harder to think of his next move. To think of what the next step or a way to defend may be.
But there’s no way he’s stopping now.
He refuses to give up. Not when Jimin is hiding away in his room just waiting to be told that every thing is okay. He just hopes Jimin is still safe and sound in his bedroom.
He didn’t see anyone head up the staircase. He should be safe.
“They’re retreating!” Someone yells. Yoongi glances over to see that it’s Namjoon, sword high in his hand as he watches the intruders take off and try to climb over the wall once again. Yoongi can’t help but smile at the words.
The harm is done for the time being.
Both sides faced equal casualties. Jeongguk is going to have to send more men over here. There’s a big mess to clean up and Yoongi knows he should help, but he can’t bring himself to. He needs to see Jimin.
Sheathing his sword, he rushes to the stairs lungs burning because he’s still out of breath but he doesn’t care. He promised to go to him as soon as everything was fine and dandy.
Things are fine, but they aren’t dandy.
He climbs the steps two at a time and makes his way over to Jimin’s bedroom door. He can hear the guards behind him crying and whining over the fact they need to clear the area but he doesn’t look back to say anything. His focus is elsewhere, somewhere more important in his opinion.
Yoongi doesn’t bother to knock when he approaches Jimin’s door. He barges right in and looks around. Though he doesn’t see Jimin.
“Jimin?” He calls, first going straight to the bathroom to see if he’s in there. He’s not. Then he checks the closest to see if he went in there. He didn’t. There’s not many places to hide in his room and Yoongi knows that but he’s positive no one came in here. So where is he? “Jimin? Where are you?” He’s starting to panic.
“Here!” Jimin calls. His voice is enough to calm Yoongi down almost immediately. He looks in the direction of his voice and realizes that Jimin was hiding underneath his bed. He didn’t even think to look under there. “I’m right here, Hyung. Don’t worry. Is it done? Are they gone?”
As soon as Jimin is standing up, Yoongi crashes into him hugging him tightly. He doesn’t say anything for a few moments instead just enjoying the warm feeling of Jimin in his arms and the smell of vanilla and lavender.
Jimin himself is relaxing. The best potion one could ask for.
“Everything is fine.” Yoongi whispers, pulling away from the hug. He offers a small smile towards Jimin, “They took off but there’s been quite a number of casualties. General Jeongguk needs to assign more people here.”
“I’m sure my father will handle that,” Jimin reassures, taking Yoongi’s hand into his own. He smiles happily but then it falls, “I need to go see for myself what’s happened. Take me down there.”
For a moment, Yoongi hesitates. He doesn’t want Jimin to see everything but he knows it can’t be avoided. As Prince he’ll experience his own fair share of death one day. Letting out a small sigh, he nods his head. “Very well. Come on.”
They leave the bedroom slowly. Though Namjoon announced that they’re all gone a part of him still feels like someone is still here just waiting for a chance to attack. Maybe he’s just worked up from the initial attack. After all, it was his first time dealing with one. That’s got to be it.
By the time they reach the end of the staircase and they’re in the Main Hall the guards have gotten a percentage of the mess cleaned. Yoongi lets out a breath, looking around at everything and everyone.
More of their men than Jimin’s.
“How many men did we lose?” Jimin questions, walking around the Main Hall. He keeps his head held high and shows no emotion. He’s much better at containing it then Yoongi is. Maybe he’s already experienced something like this before.
“Ten.” A guard answers. “Maybe more.” Jimin looks up at him then turns away to look back at the other guards. He lets out sigh. “The intruders were useless. They didn’t even do their job.”
“And what was their job?” Jimin asks. Yoongi looks over at the guard in question. He watches as the guard takes a step closer to Jimin and pulls something out from his sleeve.
He knew someone remained.
“Jimin! Move!” Yoongi cries, running in his direction as the guard makes a move to attack the Prince.
A part of Yoongi worries he won’t make it in time. Another part of him feels like he’s in pain.
It’s then he realizes that he did indeed make it in time, and instead of Jimin, he took the knife instead.
He lets out a groan as the guard pulls away. Namjoon comes up quickly and attacks him to the ground as two other guards help him. They’ll have to take him to a dungeon. Yoongi doesn’t know what they’ll do with him. Nor does he care.
“Yoongi!” Jimin cries, as Yoongi falls to the ground. In a second, Jimin is down on his knees beside him. Tears welling up in his eyes as he stares at his soulmate. “Why would you do that?! Y-you’re hurt!”
Yoongi lets out a weak laugh, “Because I love you. And I’ll protect you with my life. I made that promise when we first met, didn’t I?” He rests his hand on the wound. Pain sears throughout him and all he wants to do is cry out in pain, but he doesn’t. He stays strong for Jimin.
“Y-you can’t leave me. Do you hear me? We’ll get you to the infirmary. A-and you’ll be fine, okay?” Jimin says quickly, frantically calling for the guards to come and bring Yoongi to the infirmary.
His vision goes spotty, and it’s hard to focus on Jimin. But he still manages a smile as he feels hands grabbing onto him. “I love you.” He says once again.
Then everything goes black.
—
There’s a blinding light when Yoongi wakes up. And for a moment, he wonders if he’s dead. Maybe he’s on his way to heaven. But as he holds a hand up to his eyes to shield the light he spots someone.
The one person he loves more than anything in the world.
Jimin.
He lets out a small groan, his other hand flying to the wound on his stomach. That catches Jimin’s attention.
“Y-Yoongi?!” He cries, pushing the chair back so fast Yoongi can hear it as it falls and hits the ground. “You’re awake! Oh my god. I-I didn’t know when you’d wake up. A-and I was so worried. A-and...”
“I’m awake.” Yoongi says softly. He lowers his hand from the blinding light and grabs ahold of Jimin’s. “I wouldn’t leave you. I couldn’t. We’ve only just decided to be together. What type of soulmate would I be?”
Jimin laughs, nodding his head slowly. “That’s true.” He murmurs. He rubs circles on the back of Yoongi’s hand and smiles before taking a seat in the chair once again. “There’s something I need to tell you.”
“Already? Can’t it wait?” He whines, shaking his head. “I just want to admire you and all your glory.”
That causes Jimin to flush, but he shakes his head no quickly. “I’m sorry. This can’t wait, and I promise you’ll love it. It’s about us, actually.”
“About us? And I’ll love it?” Yoongi lets out a small hum. He wants to sit up. Lying down just does not feel comfortable, but even moving just a little bit sends pain through him. He’ll have to get used to not moving for a little bit then. “What is it?”
“Well...” Jimin bites his lip as he looks at Yoongi. “While you were unconscious I spoke with my father. I told him the truth about us. About how we’re soulmates.” Yoongi tenses at that. Did something bad happen? But Jimin said he would love it so surely not. So what happened then? “At first... he wasn’t too happy that we hid it or that it was you. But when I revealed you saved me from that guard he seemed to ease up.”
Yoongi lets out a small hum as he listens to what Jimin says. He brings his feel hand up and shields his eyes again. Couldn’t Jimin sits on the opposite side? “What does that mean for us though?”
“It means...that my father has accepted that we’re soulmates. You earned his respect, Yoongi.” Jimin smile brightly as he squeezes Yoongi’s hand. “It means no more suitors and we can be together!”
Yoongi gasps, then winces in pain, but he gasps. Eyes lighting up with happiness as he stares at Jimin. “Are you serious?”
Jimin nods his head quickly. “There’s some things we’ll have to figure out and you’ll need lessons with me and Seokjin since one day we’ll run the kingdom together. But he wants you to rest for now. Once you’re better we’ll handle it all.”
Nodding his head quickly, Yoongi squeezes Jimin’s hand. He’s really been given the chance to be with Jimin. The King approves of their relationship. There’s no what ifs, or maybes anymore. It’s for sure.
He lets go of Jimin’s hand and brings it up to the back of the Prince’s neck. For a moment he seems startled but once he realizes what’s going on he inches closer towards Yoongi.
The Prince has to do the majority of the work seeing as Yoongi can hardly move, but eventually they’re sharing their first kiss. It’s not exactly what Yoongi imagined, but he’s not complaining.
“I love you,” Yoongi whispers against Jimin’s lips when he pulls away.
“I love you too.” Jimin smiles warmly, pecking Yoongi’s lips once more. “Thank you for saving my life.”
Yoongi lets out a small hum. A way to say you’re welcome as Jimin sits back in his seat. He stares at him, taking his hand once more and smiles.
He never gave up hope.
And now he can be with Jimin like he wishes.
Their future is confirmed.
