Chapter Text

You had finally made it to UA, the school that had been calling to you for years; and you stood before the giant, intimidating gates, your jaw dropping. You had walked by UA plenty of times when you were in the area, but you had never realised how truly large the whole building was, plus you swore it kept growing as you stood there staring up at it. The building wasn’t even the whole thing, the entirety of UA’s campus was massive, and you soon realised you would probably not even get to see the whole campus during your time here. You weren’t even part of the hero course, not that you wanted to be. You didn’t really think you’d be a good hero, but you liked creating things, and still wanted to help better society. So you took the support course exam and, thankfully, got in.

You were scared though, your only two friends had both went to different high schools, and you hadn’t heard of anyone from your middle school going to UA. The middle school you went to was called Nabu Middle School, which isn’t as well known as some of the more prestigious middle schools. It was alright there, there were a few bullies, but nothing your school couldn’t handle. You did occasionally get picked on because of your quirk, but you tried not to think too much into it. It was the fault of the people who decided to pick on you.

You made your way to your class, 1-H, which wasn’t too hard to find once you got the right floor. All of the doors had obnoxiously giant letters painted onto them to match the giant doors, so finding the large ‘H’ was pretty easy.
The class was pretty empty, only three students were there. That wasn’t much of a surprise, though, since you got there pretty early. You read the seating plan that was pinned to the desk and internally laughed to yourself when you found you had a back corner seat next to one of the windows. The ‘Protagonist Seat’ you smiled to yourself, but quickly thought that if this was an anime or manga; they would be in the hero course, not one of supporting courses.  You weren’t going to complain, though. Window seats in class were always the best, plus you were tucked away at the back away from everyone else.  You walked over to your seat and hung your bag on the side of the desk; you just hoped today would be okay.

Your first day did- in fact- go okay, you learnt that you have normal class until lunch and then either the rest of the afternoon off, or support course classes. Because you weren’t a part of the hero course, you wouldn’t have hero classes in the afternoon. This meant your afternoon would either be filled with free periods, or you would have support classes. Support classes wouldn’t be much different than what most of you would be doing in your free period anyway, just hanging around your class and building or researching support items- or occasionally using the time to study. Everyone introduced themselves to the class and you became friends with one of the girls in the class. At least you would call yourselves friends, of course you only knew each other for a day so far, but you had become closer with her than anyone else. Her name was Hatsume Mei.  She was pretty energetic and hyper, something you couldn’t really understand since you only had short energy boosts throughout the day- if any at all- and were usually quite lethargic.

You made your way to the train station, fully prepared to go home and immediately lie on the couch, face down.  As you waited at the station, scrolling through your phone, you noticed that a few other people from UA stood at the station with you. That wasn’t too unusual, not everyone lived next door to the school, but one person caught your attention. You couldn’t see their face very well from where you stood, but you saw their purple spiky hair with ease. You didn’t know why he caught your attention, you didn’t know his name. But he looked interesting. Then you got a proper look at his face, he looked very tired, which you understood, you didn’t get a lot of sleep at night, which would make you want to sleep throughout the day. Then you recognised him. You still couldn’t recall his name, but you remembered seeing him at your middle school. So that’s what it was! He went to Nabu with you.

You realised you shouldn’t be staring at someone you didn’t actually know, and focused your eyes back on your phone, silently praying he didn’t feel your eyes on him. You continued playing a game on your phone until your train pulled up and your were finally able to board, glad to be getting closer to home- closer to sleep.

Great, it’s like tinned sardines in here. So...cramped. You were in the middle of one of the cars, pushed in between three different people.

You could feel someone's eyes on the back of your neck, not calming the constant paranoia you already felt on a cramped train car.

You felt a hand run up the side of your arm. Gross. You shrugged it off.

Not two minutes later you felt the same feeling, though now on your leg. Your whole body tensed and felt... disgusted. You couldn’t speak for a few seconds, frozen in shock, then just as you went to say something, a deeper voice above your head cut in.
“I wouldn’t do that, if I were you,” you looked down as the feeling left your leg, (two hands left your sight, as if one had pried the other off of you) and you turned around as best as you could to come face to face with the same purple haired guy you spotted before, and a smaller old businessman cowering behind him, his hand still gripped by the boys'. It seemed he had come and saved you. You nodded at him in thanks, not able to give him proper thanks due to the position you were in.

About twenty minutes later your stop came up, the car was significantly emptier than before, and it was quite easy to manoeuvre your way around everyone and get off.
“Hey, are you okay?” the same tired voice from before said from behind you. You spun around to see purple haired guy stood above you. You paused, looking for the right words to use.
“Yes I am, thanks to you! Thank you for that by the way, I wasn’t able to thank you properly before. You really saved me back there!” you politely bowed in thanks and gave him a closed-eye smile.
“It’s really nothing, I was doing what anyone should do, that guy is a real creep, too bad he got off right after so I wasn’t able to hand him over to the proper authorities. You really don’t have to thank me so much,” he sighed a little at the end. You thought a little longer be for bringing a fist down onto your open palm as you realised.
“Right we both go to UA! And I think I recognise you from middle school too. You went to Nabu right?” you looked at both your UA uniforms before back at his face. He nodded in reply.
“Yeah, you look kind of similar, too. I guess, I think I do remember you in middle school, actually,” he said this and you flushed slightly. Oh god. He probably heard about the girl a few classes down the hall and some weird stories to go along with it. Probably something made up or over-exaggerated at your expense. You inwardly groan at the thought and your posture noticeably slumps. “Uh, hey, you okay there?” he asks you, breaking the almost awkward silence.
“Yeah, just silently accepting death, I guess.” You let out a sigh and your head shoots upwards as you hear a small chuckle break out in front of you. He was smiling slightly, smiling looked nice on his face, you decided, and smiled back at him. “Oh right, what’s your name? I’m [L/N][Name], and if we’re doing formal introductions, then it’s nice to meet you. I’m in the Support Department.” Your hand reached out and he took it, shaking it with a ghost of a smirk on his lips.
“I’m Shinsou Hitoshi of the General Education Department, at your service."

You were currently lying face down on your couch, arms dangling at your sides as you processed your first day at UA. You met your classmates, found a friend, found where you could create support items, and got your general class schedule. You were pretty good at school. You were a quick learner; it was like the support department was made just for you. You also ran into someone from your past school, and, fortunately or not (you hadn’t decided yet) he lived close by. Like literally next door close by.  Like how did you not realise you thought you knew your neighbours close by. Really, you figured you at least knew your neighbours names, since you had heard a good portion of the street’s gossip. Not that there was much but your parents liked to talk about the people around them constantly so you just figured you knew everyone. You hadn’t even realised someone else your age was on your street. How had you not seen him every day went you went to Nabu? God, you felt stupid.

You finally willed yourself to get up, and trudged upstairs to your room. Your house was empty; both your parents were away at work, which you were used to. Well, empty other than your cat. A white, flame-point ragdoll, which you had received for your 12th birthday and named Homura. You figured it fit her aesthetic, since she was a flame-point and could be quite feisty if she didn’t like someone. Cats always liked you, and quickly became your favourite anime at a young age, so you were overjoyed when your parents actually got you one, something you didn't expect of them.  Speaking of which, Homura had jumped into your line of sight and circled around your feet, before walking with you on your journey to your room.
“Hey, Homura. Did you miss me? It was my first day away from home after the school break!” She simply meowed in response. You weren’t all that worried about her, she had ways to get in and out of the house if you weren’t there and since you fed her before you left she wouldn’t be going hungry anytime soon. Not that food was  worry for her either, you wouldn't be surprised if you found that she begged for food on her daily outings, and you couldn't lie- you were suspicious of her knowing how to get her own food after watching you do it everyday for the past three years. She was smart after all.

Upon entering your room, you leaned out of the open window, it was big enough for you to climb out of, and led onto a small portion of roof that you called a balcony. It probably wasn’t built to be a balcony, but it worked. It had a small wall securing the place and you had even put some plants out there. By some you of course meant a lot; you did love plants after all.

There was also a way to climb onto the main roof from the small ‘balcony’, though you didn’t always go up there.
You climbed out of the window, Homura following close behind, as you looked among all your plants, before sitting on the wall that secured the ‘balcony’ itself. You liked doing this, it was peaceful. But that peace was short lived as a voice interrupted your thoughts.
“[L/n]?” you looked to where the voice came from to see it was in your neighbours house, the room opposite yours to be exact. Their house looked exactly the same, but without your so-called balcony. The room seemed to be the same size as yours though, and there was small platform that was big enough to stand sideways on, or sit on, right outside his window. You were surprised at who the owner of the voice was, finding it was Shinsou himself. Wow, so even his bedroom was right next to yours. Seriously, how did you not notice him before? The space between your ‘balcony’ and his platform was only about 2 or 3 feet, jumping distance, and you’ve been on the balcony so many times before it seemed impossible to not have seen inside his room.  Oh God, what were you going to do?

Notes:

Okay so first chapter- done. This was significantly shorter than I want the other chapters to be, but only because it was the first one, so don't worry they wont all be this short! If you want to give me any criticism or encouragements, the comments are all yours. If you read the author's notes, I just want you to know that it took a while to decide whether or not I wanted this to be published. I'm far from done, but this is my first proper published fanfic online. I've written a lot before but never for BNHA online or anything... kinda scary T-T. Well, I guess I'll have to learn on the job. I hope this was good since it was barely proofread. Though I'll probably go back in the future because I'm paranoid and like quadruple checking things.
Bye bye - Fever
