Chapter Text
All the boxes and furniture has been settled in Jungkook's new apartment, waiting to be taken apart and placed again. He dreaded this part but also loved it the most, being able to recreate how he wanted his place to look. Besides the tons of boxes there was only a double bed, a couch, and a mediocre tv that was taken from his old home with his parents. The apartment wasn't big but it wasn't small either (at least for one person to be staying in), with one bedroom and a living room that went into the kitchen around the hall. It was all a mess, but Jungkook was just happy to be where he has wanted to be since he was a kid- Seoul.
Jungkook had worked his ass off in high school and college to be able to get where he is, and that's how he's finally got here at age 24. This all sounds great and fun until this part, you know, the part where the photography shop he was supposed to work at got burned down in a fire and now he has to wait however long until everything is rebuilt and is now relying on his friend Jimin to help him get work or else he'll be going back home to Busan real quick.
Thank god for Jimin, honestly. The older was someone he met at college and shared a dorm with, now living and working in Seoul for an apparently huge business that pays more than what would take Jungkook a year to earn at the photography shop. You would think it would be difficult to get into a place like that, but apparently its very easy, as Jungkook is going to start working there tomorrow as a substitute until another employee comes back. He has no idea what he's going to be doing really, Jimin had just told him that it was an easy job and could be done quickly, but he knows whats easy is actually dreadful to normal people. Jungkook doesn't have the energy to sweat the details though, as he has mountains of boxes to go through tonight.
Tonight ends up turning into morning though, Jungkook finally taking a casual glance at his phone expecting it to be around ten but- no. Oh no. Try three a.m.. With wide eyes Jungkook stands from where he was crouched down on the floor with stuff all around him and groans, rubbing his face. He's supposed to go into work at 6, so if he goes to sleep now he'll at least be a little more awake, he thought. But he was wrong, again.
Lying on his bed tossing and turning, Jungkook sighs. He glances at the clock on the bed side table and sighs louder, seeing 5 a.m.. Now is when he gets nervous? So what if he's working somewhere new, Jimin will be there with him. It's not like it's some big company that is worth more than his life and everything he owns and loves combined or a company that pays so much that if Jungkook fucked up he could be losing thousands of dollars, right? Wait-
Jungkook sits up and runs a hand through his brown hair, letting out another sigh before deciding to get up and shower. After he showers he goes through his clothing that he was able to hang up a few hours before and finds the only dress pants, white button up and black tie he owns, deciding he'd have to quickly go shopping after work or else he'd probably get fired just for looking like trash. After getting dressed he decides to brush back his hair and add just a little bit of concealer to hide that fact that he hadn't slept in two days and some lip tint just because. Jungkook then goes to the kitchen to get something to eat, only to remember that he doesn't have food in his place yet so he decides he's off to work without eating, he guesses.
It only takes about 20 minutes by car to get there so Jungkook decides to get a taxi, crying on the inside for having to use what little money he has to pay. The whole ride Jungkook is bouncing his leg nervously, biting his lip as he looks out the window to distract himself. But he can't calm his nerves, the only thing he can do is sit there and wait anxiously to arrive to the place that's causing him to panic in the first place.
Sadly they arrive too quickly for Jungkook's liking, and he thanks the driver before getting out of the car with his bag. Jimin had promised him beforehand to wait at the entrance so that he could show Jungkook around, and he is so relieved when he spots the shorter man in the distance. When Jimin notices him he smiles, meeting Jungkook halfway and punching Jungkook in the shoulder as a greeting.
"Ow! What the-"
"You made me wait, asshole." Jimin huffs, giving a glare. Jungkook scoffs as he holds his shoulder, unable to comprehend what type of greeting that was.
"How about a "nice to see you, Jungkook" instead?" he says sarcastically, the older rolling his eyes and turning to walk back to the entrance.
"Yeah, nice to see you. Now come on, I didn't expect you to arrive at 6, so we gotta hurry." Jimin says as he motions for Jungkook to follow, which he does quickly. Jimin walks fast and Jungkook has no time to really look around the place, but he does note that the entrance hall is wide as fuck and just straight windows, making the hall of the left look super tiny. The floor they walk on is white marble, only adding to the fancy feel the whole place has. They pass by multiple employee's that don't even acknowledge them, just heading wherever they need to go without caring about what others are doing.
There are paintings that line the hall walls, all of them looking way too expensive for Jungkook to even look at, and then wonders how Jimin landed such a fancy job. Finally Jimin takes a right turn and they reach an elevator, the older pressing the up button and then letting out a sigh, turning to Jungkook.
"You're wondering how I landed such a fancy job, right?"
Jungkook almost chokes on his spit, trying to suppress a laugh. "Not at all." He lies. Jimin sees through it but doesn't comment, instead entering the elevator and waiting for Jungkook to enter before pressing the number 5.
"I got in kinda the same way you did. Except I replaced the guy because I was better at the job." Jimin says, Jungkook humming in response. "I never expected this from you."
Jimin snorts, "Me either. But the pay is too good to pass up." He answers with a shrug and then the elevator tings, the doors opening up to reveal a large room with more white walls but instead of paintings there is bulletin boards and paper, and instead of marble flooring there is carpet (even the damn carpets look expensive. Expensive carpet?). This place looks a lot less intimidating then everywhere else Jungkook has seen so far and there aren't too many desks and people, although it's pretty noisy.
Finally Jimin stops in the middle of the room and starts to speak. "This is the floor you'll be working on and my desk is right over there," Jimin points to the left where there is an vacant desk sitting near the window, and then turns and points right next to Jungkook where another desk sits. "That's where you'll be staying. What you'll be doing here is mostly paperwork, which is both heaven and hell. It's pretty easy when you get the hang of it but there's a lot so it's good to take breaks in between, and if you need help with anything you can ask me or Hoseok who sits next to you."
At the mention of his name the man, Hoseok, turns in his chair and grins with a small wave. "I'm Hoseok, aka your helper if you need anything. Despite what anyone else tells you, i'm the smartest one here." He says with a cheeky smile, earning a whack in the arm from Jimin.
"If Yoongi heard that he'd be doing way more than smacking." Jimin says snarkily, Hoseok just shrugging in response. "Just what I want." Hoseok retorts with a smirk that Jimin's face crinkles in disgust at, turning away to face Jungkook instead who has been watching on both confused and amused at the same time.
"Moving on. I'll now explain to you what you'll be doing in detail. So sit down and have your listening ears on because you're definitely gonna get confused out of your mind."
Jungkook swallows nervously and sits down at the empty chair at now his desk, getting ready for an onslaught of nonsense. And nonsense it was. After the third explanation Jimin was starting to get annoyed, as was Jungkook.
"Come on, I know it's hard but it's not three explanations hard."
"Sorry but hard for you is going to be almost impossible for me." Jungkook retorts, Jimin letting out a big sigh in annoyance before speaking again.
"I'll only go over it one more time."
"Come on Jimin," Hoseok chimes in, giving Jimin a look, "be nice. He's trying his best."
Jungkook nods, "Yeah, i'm trying my best."
Jimin groans, "One more time-"
"Do you all think you can afford wasting time like this?" A voice cuts in, startling all three of them. Jungkook quickly turns to look behind him to see man dressed in a suit that probably costs more than Jungkook's apartment, styled black hair and eyes dark. Honestly, he's kind of hot, but his expression showed that he was not amused in what he was seeing, and the looks on Jimin and Hoseok's faces meant that this man was probably someone important.
"I'm sorry sir, I was trying to explain to Jungkook what he has to do." Jimin speaks up, the tone in his voice more polite than Jungkook has ever heard from the guy. The man hums and turns his gaze to Jungkook who freezes at the attention, unsure what to do as the seemingly important man eyes him up and down. Is he checking him out?
"Jungkook, huh. You're new, right?" The man asks and Jungkook stands from his chair and nods before bowing slightly. "Jeon Jungkook, sir. I will be starting here today." He says politely despite not even knowing who this man was or if he was worth bowing to.
The man clicks his teeth, causing Jungkook to look back up at him. "Seems like you're having a hard time learning what you need to do. You better learn quick or you'll be removed fast and trust me, we have plenty of people who are willing to take your spot." The man grins, patting Jungkook on the shoulder before walking away. Once he's out of sight Jungkook scoffs, falling back in his chair. Jimin and Hoseok also visibly relaxes, letting out sighs.
"What the hell? Who is he to be an asshole like that? Of course i'm gonna be confused at first, this is all new to me!" Jungkook complains, crossing his arms over his chest with a frown. Jimin and Hoseok share a look before Jimin speaks up.
"Uh, that was our boss."
Jungkook's eyes widen and he straightens in his seat, feeling his heart stop for a moment. "Huh?"
