Work Text:
Sara flopped down onto the bed, sighing loudly. Her boyfriend set his phone down, turning his head over to look at her.
“Is something wrong, babe?” Joe asked.
Sara just huffed, sighing again. She shook her head yes, and Joe smiled softly. “Alrighty, come here.”
He made a grabbing motion with his hands, and Sara moved closer. Joe hooked his arms around her midsection, and let her snuggle closer. Wrapped up in Joe’s arms, she began to relax, letting her breathing sync with his.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“It isn't that big of a deal,” she said, sighing again. “Just stress from my part-time job.”
“Is it that Sou guy again?”
Joe began to softly trace little hearts onto her back, smiling as he did. Sara let out a quiet hum at the added touch.
“Yeah, kinda. But you’d never believe it, this guy came in dressed as our mascot today.”
“Did-?” He started, trying not to laugh and failing. “Did you hire him?”
“I wish,” Sara laughed. “All he did was yell at our manager for twenty minutes.”
“Yikes.”
“I know, right?” Sara said. “At least he got kicked out after it.”
Their small talk continued, but they stayed like that, relaxing and enjoying each other’s company for a while, until Sara suddenly changed the subject. “Remember that coupon you gave me?”
“How could I forget?”
“Can I cash it right now?”
“Wait, really?”
“Yeah, really,” she smiled. “You said I could redeem it whenever I wanted, right?”
Joe chuckled. “Of course.”
With that, he pressed a kiss to the top of her head, making an exaggerated noise with it. “And how could I say no to you?”
Sara laughed, looking up at him. They shared a smile, then Joe moved to kiss Sara’s cheek. He trailed a line of kisses across her cheek, then moved back. “Still okay?”
Sara nodded. He smiled again and placed another kiss onto her forehead.
“Actually,” Sara started. “I did have something I wanted to ask you.”
“Go for it!”
“You’ve never… uh, actually kissed me, have you?” She asked, face flushing.
“Like, on the lips?” He confirmed. “No, I don’t think so.”
“Could you?”
Joe’s face went beet red. “For- for real?”
“Yeah.”
“Are you sure? I mean, won’t it be your first kiss? I don’t wanna steal that from you! I mean I’m not opposed to it, but are you sure? Like really, really s-“
Sara cut him off with a soft shushing noise. “I’m sure. Please?”
“A-alright.”
Joe leaned in slowly, tilting his head to make sure he didn’t bump noses with her, then softly pressed his lips to hers. He pulled back quickly, face flushed red. “Was- Was that okay?”
Sara’s face was equally red. “Yeah.”
His eyes drifted down to her lips. “Do you mind if I do it again?”
“Please,” she smiled.
Joe moved his hand under her cheek and leaned back in, kissing her again, trying to keep the kiss as soft as possible. He slowly wrapped his hands in her hair, carefully pulling the ribbon that held her hair up out. Her amber hair spilled out freely, and Joe couldn’t help but move his hands through it. Her hair was always so soft.
He pulled away after a minute, smiling like an idiot. “You know I love you, right?”
“You dork,” Sara giggled. “I love you too.”
She snuggled closer to him, letting her eyes flutter closed and letting herself be enveloped in his warmth. She felt his hands moving in her hair, gently massaging her scalp. It was calm.
Sara knew that she wouldn’t be able to stay awake like this. As if on cue, she let out a little yawn, pulling a quiet laugh from her boyfriend.
“Tired?” He asked.
“Kind of,” she replied.
“It’s alright,” he said, continuing to work his hands through her hair. “I don’t mind if you fall asleep.”
“Thank you,” she mumbled. With that, she began to fall back asleep.
Joe smiled, pressing another kiss to the top of Sara’s head. “I love you, Sara.”
