Work Text:
Mitsuba knocks on Kou’s door, even though he has a key. He didn’t see Teru’s car in the driveway- which means he and Tiara are still away on her gymnastics train away camp. So it’s just Kou and him alone tonight. To put it simply, Mitsuba is panicking. All of sudden the door sweeps open, to reveal Kou. Kou stands in his ‘kiss the cook’ apron, sweat all over his face, his hair neatly combed behind a pink bandana.
“Come in!” He says, stepping out of the way. Mitsuba steps in, and immediately asks what Kou made. Before Kou can answer, Mitsuba smells the sharp scent of meat- and lots of it. Ever curious, he runs into the kitchen and observes what's cooking.
“Damn, you really want to get your dirty hands into my pants tonight…” Mitsuba says, dipping a spoon into the chicken broth. Kou calmly goes to check on the noodles.
“What makes you think that?” He asks innocently. Mitsuba puts down the spoon with a ting and leans back on the counter.
“Your family is gone, we’re alone in your house, and you made me udon. What’s next, flan-” Mitsuba cuts himself off and beelines for the fridge. Kou all of sudden turns and covers the door with his arm.
“It’s for desert!” He says, arm still up, but his other hand working.
“It’s flan pudding and I want a bite!!” Mitsuba whines, trying and failing to move Kou’s arm. Finally he gives up and grabs the utensils to set the table. Kou breathes a sigh of relief, finally taking back his arm. The deal always goes like so; Mitsuba looks pretty, Kou cooks dinner, Mitsuba sets the table, Kou drives him home. Dinner dates are a staple for them because Kou can cook- if he couldn’t, Mitsuba would be begging his mother, at 18, to cook for them. It’s not like Mitsuba can’t cook- he’s sure he’d be as good as Kou if he had a little bit more experience. But debatably, looking pretty is easier than cooking.Mitsuba peeks over at the kitchen again after setting the table, to see Kou absorbed in his task. He probably wouldn’t notice if a tiny bit of flan is missing… Mitsuba sneaks into the kitchen, as quietly as he can. Kou still hasn’t noticed, so he slowly opens the fridge.
“Mitsuba.” Mitsuba stares at the back of Kou’s head.
“Yes, my dearest, my love, my boyfriend, my Kou?”
“Get your hands out of the fridge.” Mitsuba groans.
“You and your grubby disgusting hands are ruining the moment!.” He mumbles, shutting the door. Mitsuba tip-toes over to Kou, looking over his shoulder. He’s not dealing with boiling liquids or sharp knives at the moment, so Mitsuba suddenly wraps his arms around Kou and kisses him on the neck.
“Mitsuba!” Kou yells, dropping what was in his hands and leaving his hands to hover.
“Kou, you pervert, wearing an apron that says to kiss you…” Mitsuba starts a relentless attack on Kou’s neck. Kou accidently moves his neck and suddenly Mitsuba can get better vantage, laying his lips down on every part of his neck. Kou is rapidly forgetting all about dinner. Before his head can spin out of control he pushes Mitsuba away and checks the broth.
“What were you gonna do if the broth boiled over?” Kou asks, stirring the pot. He turns to check the noodles.
“Eat the flan in the fridge, duh!” Kou lets out a long sigh and kicks back his leg to cover the door again. Mitsuba huffs out of frustration.
“The udon is done!” Mitsuba grabs bowls and serves himself with no regard for Kou. At least that’s what he thought, until Mitsuba gave him the bowl.
“Here. Go sit.” Kou smiles, feeling the sudden urge to kiss his boyfriend, but swallows it and gets out of the kitchen. They both sit on one side of the table- The first time they had a dinner date Mitsuba thought the table was way too big to sit on opposite sides of. Kou looks up from his seat to see Mitsuba walk into the room, carrying his huge bowl of udon with a big smile on. Kou finally takes the time to admire Mitsuba’s outfit-as they say, Mitsuba’s job is to look pretty. And boy does he. His eyelashes seem almost twice as long, his eyeshadow is the most gorgeous gold Kou has ever seen in his life, and his lips shine as the light catches them- Mitsuba’s outfit falls in line with what he usually wears, just a light blue skinny jeans and a long yellow sweater, but it still works so well.
“What are you staring for?!” Mitsuba yells, setting his bowl down and sitting besides Kou.
“I-uh. No reason.” Kou stumbles, staring down at his udon. They both pick up their chopsticks and gobble down the food, Mitsuba more violent than ever, while still managing to get nothing on his face. Suddenly Mitsuba drops his spoon and wipes his mouth. Kou looks over to see his bowl completely empty.
“Mitsuba?!”
“What?” Mitsuba asks, with no hints of a joke behind his words. Kou swallows his questions and continues to eat. As he’s chewing, Mitsuba sticks out a hand and pokes his cheek.
“What?!” Kou asks.
“Nothing.” He responds, covering his smile with his sleeve. “You know… this was really good. Thank you.” Kou smiles, looking back to see Mitsuba has completely turned away.
“I’m glad you liked it, Mitsubaby.” He turns back to Kou with furrowed eyebrows and frown on his face.
“‘Mitsuba’ is fine, ‘baby’ is fine, but ‘Mitsubaby’ is disgusting.” He says, pouting as hard as he can. Kou reaches out and hold’s Mitsuba’s head in his hand.
“Baby.” Kou hums. Mitsuba continues to give the most disgusted look possible. Mitsuba doesn’t like pet names. They don’t make him feel all fuzzy inside, and loved, and cared for, at all. He hates them and he is not soft. Mitsuba finally squirms out of Kou’s grip when he’s had enough.
“You know, you’re a great chef, but I think I could do better.” He says with a satisfied smirk. Kou is trying so hard not to make it apparent that he’s laughing, trying to cover it with coughs, but Mitsuba sees right through that and humphs very dramatically. “What?! Don’t think I could?!”
“No!! But we’ve done this for nearly 3 years now, Mitsuba. Why get defensive now?” Mitsuba clicks his tongue and says,
“I’m not getting defensive! I do so much to look pretty for our dates and you haven't even complimented me yet. Really, I am the victim.” After Mitsuba finishes, he looks over to Kou to see him with big sad eyes.
“I’m sorry baby, I thought you looked so pretty tonight. I’m sorry I didn’t say anything. You’re so cute.” Mitsuba crosses his arms and turns away with a big ‘humph!’ Kou continues to babble, going on and on about how cute Mitsuba is, how absolutely adorable he is while Mitsuba pretends to act annoyed and not like he’s tearing at the seams. With every compliment his need to hide his face only grows, his ears and neck are even getting hotter, all because Kou Minamoto can’t shut his mouth and his big dumb heart can’t stop feeling bad. All of a sudden Mitsuba yells,
“It’s okay!! It’s fine!” Kou grabs Mitsuba’s shoulder and reluctantly he turns towards him. Mitsuba refuses to make eye contact but Kou knows well enough what Mitsuba looks like when he’s super embarrassed.
“Aww you got embarrassed. My gorgeous, beautiful, cute boyfriend is embarrassed!”
“Shut up!!” Mitsuba yells, still not making eye contact. Before Kou can react, Mitsuba jumps up and runs to the kitchen. He comes back 2 seconds later with two spoons and the flan. Mitsuba plops down next to Kou without even offering some of the flan. He can’t say he didn’t deserve it. His ruthless teasing of Mitsuba wasn’t new- just the way he does it was. Saying overly mushy things to Mitsuba until he gives in and complains is a new game and the only real way to fight back on the pervert claims. But still, Kou wanted a bite of the flan.
“How is it?” He asks.
“It’s… really good. Thank you for making me flan.” Mitsuba never even puts down the plate; just keeps on holding it close to his chest.
“Can I have a bite?” Mitsuba turns to Kou with such utter disgust he nearly gets whiplash.
“Perverts don’t get flan. Perverts like you, that harass cute boys with lewd compliments and act all disgusting and mushy.” Kou sighs, but resigns himself to a life with no flan. Mitsuba suddenly taps his shoulder and Kou looks over to see him with a spoon. Kou opens his mouth hesitantly and Mitsuba feeds him one bite. After Kou finishes, he peers over, about to ask for another bite when Mitsuba hands him the other spoon and finally sets it down on the table, between them. Kou gets some on his spoon and stears it towards Mitsuba. Without even thinking, he opens his mouth and Kou drops some flan in. After chewing, Mitsuba looks over and says,
“I can get my own flan, you know.” Kou shakes his head, smiling, and kisses him on the lips.
