Work Text:
Katsuki jolts up from his bed, his breath heavy, his body covered in sweat, and tears welling up in his eyes. He grips the sheets on his bed tightly, panicked breaths shortening as he starts to hyperventilate. He tries to remember the soothing words of "Breathe, Kacchan, breathe."
He takes a deep breath, calming himself slightly, breathing settling into a relatively healthy pattern. His tears run down his face as he sets off small explosions. He lifts his hands so that he doesn't ruin his sheets, which are practically covered in Katsuki's sweat.
He thinks back to the dream he had, nightmare rather. As he does, he begins to panic again, explosions getting bigger. He closes his eyes, trying not to imagine the scenerio his brain has played out 100 times over, already.
He can't.
He stands up, doing his best to stop his explosions for the time being. He walks quickly over to his door, opening it and closing it in a flash. In no time, he's down the hall, in the elevator, pressing the button for the 2nd floor. He sighs, trying to keep his breathing stable.
He rushes down the hallway, stopping in front of the second door, not even glancing at Mineta's. He knocks, trying not to be too loud, as to not wake the others. Izuku opens the door, yawning and rubbing his eyes. He smiles, "Kacchan? You okay?" He asks worriedly. It's 2:37 AM, Izuku checked right before he answered the door.
"Can I come in?" Katsuki asks quickly, looking down in an attempt to hide the warm tears trailing down his cheeks. Izuku blinks, eyebrows furrowing in concern. He nods, moving out of the way and opening the door further.
Katsuki walks in, stopping in front of the bed, still staring down at the floor as he begins to remember what he'd dreamt about. The younger male closes the door quietly, walking over to his friend.
"What's up, Kacchan? Did you have that nightmare again?" Izuku asks, pressing down on Katsuki's shoulders to make him sit on the bed, then he sits next to him.
The blond nods, sniffing as he tries to stop his tears from flowing. Izuku grabs his wrists, pulling his hands away from his face. He let's his hands stay in the same place while he reaches up to gently wipe away the wetness on Katsuki's cheek, letting his hand linger a bit too long.
Katsuki isn't good at asking for help. When he does, he does so, usually, silently. But Izuku never needed words to figure out that he was the only one the teen could go to. When his rival first came for help becuase of a nightmare, they were both in their second year of high school. Their relationship at the time was iffy. They were kind of friends, but more associates than anything. Ever since the day Katsuki ran to him, their relationship seemed to be growing rapidly.
"You're okay, Kacchan. It's all okay. It's all over. You're fine, you're safe, you're okay," Izuku speaks softly, a small smile forming.
Katsuki swallows hard, reaching for Izuku's hand and leaning forward, "But...you..." His lip quivers, remembering the blood, the hurt, the emotion, the-
"Kacchan...hey," he delicately caresses his rival's face, "I'm right here. I'm just fine. Everyone is fine, Kacchan..."
"Bu-"
"I promise."
Katsuki isn't sure if he'd be even slightly okay without the people he has in his life. Especially Izuku. He calms himself down, gaze shifting from one of the greenette's eyes to the other.
"You got hurt, damnit," he says weakly, voice wavering.
Izuku sighs, smile growing, "But I'm fine. See?"
"I..." Katsuki had to do this. He had to say those goddamn words, for his sake and for Izuku's. It was so easy, such simple words. But he choked.
"It's okay, Kacchan. You don't have to," the younger wraps his arms around the neck of the older, pulling himself closer to the teen, swaying slowly in a comforting way.
"I'm sorry, Deku."
Izuku let's his body halt for three whole seconds. He allows himself to be suprised by Bakugou's words. He doesn't say anything else, just continues swaying, squeezing Katsuki closely.
"I need you, Deku. Please..." Katsuki squeezes back, pulling Izuku as close as he can get him.
"I'll always be here, Kacchan. Always."
