Work Text:
He was a somber view, so contrasting with his surroundings, all clad in white and blue with a neutral expression on his face but deep longing in his amber eyes.
He was perfection, carved from pure white jade an ominous presence that was ever-present in the moonlight river were souls in sorrow wait to disappear onto oblivion. Here he was rowing a glass boat, always looking down, searching among the lost souls for his beloved.
A silk net always ready at one hand, a pitch dark flute on the other, waiting, always waiting for it to react to his owner, here he was looking down at the river full of souls in the shape of rabbits, longing to see a red ribbon in one of them.
Time didn't matter anymore, centuries could pass by and he would remain the same, alone, impassive, expecting another chance, just once more to do the right thing.
One day he was not that alone, he materializes from thin air, maybe from a near magnolia tree. All soft eyes and gentle smiles, he didn't understand why he was here. Had something happened to him? He was sure, so sure his cherished child had a fulfilling life, perhaps it wasn't enough, had he fail as a father too?
A son worried for his father was the reason, long was the last time he saw him and yet he remains the same, waiting... Not allowing himself to move on, to stop searching because his longing would never disappear. Because the pain, the regret weighed him down, he couldn't rest, how could he if every time he closed his eyes the choices he made torment him.
He would wait an eternity if needed to set the record straight, to hold his soul one more time, to scream his feeling without restrain. And then, only then he would cross the moonlight river with his beloved in hand.
