Work Text:
Riza jolted, waking to the sound of a loud crash in the room.
Quickly, she scanned the room and found the Colonel sitting on the floor with several books scattered around him. It appeared that he was making his way to the window beside his bed, but had misjudged the placement of the books near it. In the darkness of the room, she remembered exactly why that was. A flash of anger crossed over her features for a second before she shook her head and silently went to him.
"Colonel?" she asked tersely, eyeing the side of his abdomen. No blood leaked out of his hospital robe. That's good.
Roy turned his head towards her, brows furrowed. "I'm sorry I woke you up."
"Please," she said, her voice shaking even as she tried to compose herself, "worry about yourself first, sir."
Shaking his head, he grinned at her sheepishly before raising his hand towards her. She released a sigh before taking it quietly, looping an arm around his waist to help him stand. Similarly, he reached around her shoulders, leaning on her slightly.
When they reached his bed, he removed himself from her grasp and sat on the bed quietly. She furrowed her brows, trying not to fathom why his unseeing gaze made her hold her breath.
"Sir?"
"I may not see you now," he said, frowning, "but you do not need to hide your tears, Lieutenant."
She stilled.
"How do you even know?" she asked quietly, her voice breaking.
"Of course I do," he whispered, walking towards her without guidance before taking her in his arms. She gasped as his warmth gradually enveloped her. "We've been together for so long. I have long memorised your rhythm."
"That said, I've made you go through so many horrible things recently," he continued, hugging her more tightly. He let out a sigh as her arms went around his waist as well. "I keep promising not to hurt you, but I keep being an idiot."
She looked up at him, arching a brow. "That was not the promise we made that day."
"Ah," he said so softly that her heart skipped a beat. She saw how his cheeks reddened even as he tried to hide his eyes beneath the fringes of his jet black hair.
"I—," he began before stopping abruptly, scratching his head nervously. She felt his other hand tighten on the small of her back, pulling her in gently.
"Col—," she tried to ask as he pressed his lips against her softly. She sighed in his mouth as he kissed her deeply, his fingers wading through the waves of her hair. She gasped loudly when he slid his tongue inside her mouth and enveloped her in his arms again.
She moved towards him, about to respond when his legs hit the side of the bed and she got pulled down with him.
"I really am an idiot," Roy sighed, covering his eyes with a hand as she sat on top of him.
"If you would tell me why you kissed me, logic may disprove it," she quipped, trying to get a hold of the situation even as she continued to feel the blood rush to her cheeks. "Probably."
Roy removed his hand away from his face. "As expected, you never really miss a chance to hiss a sass, Lieutenant."
She arched a brow as he let out a sigh.
"Very well. It is only fair that you should know the truth," he began as he laid a hand on the small of her back gently. "The truth lies on my selfishness, I should say."
She shook her head. "Speak plainly, please."
I know what you mean, she thought, but not like that. You do not need to hide behind words, if it's me.
He nodded, taking a deep breath. "When I asked you to be my aide, it was not simply because I wanted you by my side. Nor was it simply because your father, my master, asked me to. While that certainly played a part, it was your words that made me realise how much I needed you. Without a doubt."
"My words?" she pushed, even as the fact that it had something to do with her father's dying wish made her sigh.
"Yes," he answered, his voice filling the silent room. "You asked me not to die, and so I stubbornly latch onto life, in spite of everything. And in exchange, you stubbornly said you'd follow me even into hell."
Her fingers trembled as she gripped his shirt.
He has not forgotten at all.
"So, ah, my dearest Lieutenant," he continued, gently wiping away the tears she did not even realise were falling from her eyes, "given all that we have gone through, how can I ever be unaware of you?"
She was terribly mistaken that his actions were only done out of duty. She was terribly mistaken.
Roy pulled her down to him gently, ensconcing her in his arms once again. "So forgive me and my selfishness. The moment you said those words, I promised myself I'd protect you, no matter what. Even if I am useless in the rain."
Another tear fell from her eyes as she let out a sigh of relief against his neck.
"I know I said that, but," she whispered, resting a hand on the side of his face, "it is only when it rains that I feel warmer beside you."
"Is that so?" he smirked, tracing the outline of her back with his fingers. "I am not so useless when it rains, then."
"Not at all," she said, pressing a light kiss on the slope of his neck.
She felt his grip tighten on her waist.
"Ah, Lieutenant," he whispered, his voice deepening as he lifted the back of her shirt and his fingers slowly caressed her skin. It was enough to make her press herself against him more.
He gasped against her ear, and she felt something rise beneath her sharply. She could not help curling her fingers in the waves of his dark hair.
She could drown in the silky depths of his gasps alone.
"Perhaps," Roy murmured, his full lips caressing the back of her hand, "it is because I cannot see you that I am unafraid to do this, but is it all right if we wait to do more once I regain my sight? I do not wish to hold you in the darkness."
Her hand trembled against his full lips.
"I wish to hold you in the light," he continued, sitting the both of them up, "and hold you as you are."
"As you wish," was all she could say as he kissed her eyes and traced the slope of her neck with his mouth.
"That said," he said as he held her waist and pivoted her so that her back was pressed against his front, "I can still satisfy you in a different way."
"What do y—?" she asked as one of his hands traced the curve of her breast and the other gradually made its way to her thighs.
He spread her legs gently, caressing it slowly until his fingers removed the waistband of her trousers and reached the insides of her thighs. Her heart fluttered madly as he began stroking her folds.
A loud moan fell from her lips as he went deeper with two fingers.
Her head felt lighter as he continued all his ministrations while he kissed her deeply. Truth be told, she does not even know if she could think of anything else other than the way his lips parried with her kisses.
It was too late for that, though, as he murmurred her name against her neck and she could not stop moaning as his fingers continued to push against her walls.
Deeper and faster until she fell apart in his arms.
And his name was the only thing that anchored her to life.
"I will," she whispered once it was over, leaning against him, "have no more doubts."
He pressed a kiss on her shoulder, fixing her clothes before his arms circled her waist again. "Will you forgive me?"
"When it comes to me, there's nothing," she said, resting her hand on top of his, "that needs forgiveness."
Then she turned to face him, taking in the sight of his eyes, lighter than what she was used to. She closed her eyes for a moment, resting her forehead against his.
"All I ask," she whispered, "is that you continue to walk forward."
"With you, of course," he replied, kissing her softly.
She smiled against his lips.
Of course.
