Chapter Text

“Some of us get dipped in flat, some in satin, some in gloss. But every once in a while, you find someone who's iridescent, and when you do, nothing will ever compare.”

—A quote from “Flipped” movie

His name is Ray Leslie. He would turn 15 in next month, and he hates many things. He hates how his biology teacher often make paired up assignments. He hates how those stupid-faced boys who have too much time on their plates always manage to get his supposedly white P.E shirt smudged with ‘accidental’ dirt throwing. He hates how the cafeteria foods sometimes taste like boiled cardboard. He also hates how Emma and him are best-friends, yet they don’t share many classes. But most of all, he hates Norman Ratri.

Norman Ratri always wears fancy branded shirts and being driven to school with fancy cars. He also always arrived in school and walks along the school corridors with that smug smile of his as the girls talk in husked whispers about how much of a dreamy boyfriend material he is.

Norman Ratri gets special P.E pass because apparently his body is too fragile to even run a mile without fainting. The girls still admire him, though. They often debating with each other who should go up and talk with Norman as the boy watched everyone passively from the side bench. There’s never any winner through those quarrels.

Okay, maybe all of those excuses sound kind of petty for hating someone. But Ray swears, he really has a valid reason for hating the other boy. Namely, how Norman Ratri hogged the all the buzzer opportunities in their national quiz competition last year. Their teamed-up quiz competition.

To be fair, Ray has to admit that he’s actually never a person who likes to be on spotlights much. Still, it’s just so annoying to be near a person who’s always so full of themself. But alas, seems like fate really hates him as much as he hates it. Because for their final big project on biology for this term, to his (lack of) luck, he got paired up together with freaking Norman. Ratri. Out of all possible people!

Ugh. Ray can say for sure that he’s really, really not looking forward to this.
