Work Text:
In retrospect, Eijun should have thought twice. And that had become the eternal refrain playing in the background of his life, but he couldn’t help it. It was in his nature.
He winced as a blow landed on his face, but he righted himself and threw his own punch, ducking to avoid the kick that came his way.
“Listen, kid-” he tried, jumping back in time to avoid what would have been a severely bruised eye.
“I’m not a kid!” the kid before him yelled, even though it was quite apparent that he was in fact a kid, his cheeks still round and hair slicked back to resemble a certain someone’s. No one did that, unless they were a kid.
“Okay, Not-a-kid, just give me a break,” Eijun tried, his words coming out in short breaths as he deflected another punch coming at his arm. “Whatever you’re thinking, it’s probably wrong.”
“There’s no need to think,” the kid hissed venomously. “A cop tryna sneak into Boss’ room is pretty self-explanatory.”
To be fair, he had a point. But in Eijun’s defence, he had just wanted to surprise his boyfriend. It had been a whole month since they last saw each other, after all.
The moment of distraction cost him the fight and he was slammed onto the ground. The kid pinned him down, twisting his arms behind his back. Goddamn, how many times did he have to be handcuffed with his own handcuffs? The smooth metal clamped around his wrists and he writhed on the floor, knowing his effort was futile.
“I’ll leave Boss to deal with you,” the kid said, an expression of absolute pride and delight on his face. Eijun didn’t have the heart to destroy it, realising that the kid was probably the newcomer Kuramochi had told him about. Still too green behind the ears to have received the memo.
Well, as far as surprising Miyuki Kazuya went, he supposed this would top the cake. Not-a-kid taped his mouth tight and dragged him to the basement, which was impressive considering that they were about the same build.
As if evaluating his handiwork, the boy nodded his head and shut the door behind him, taking with him the last sliver of light in the basement. With a sigh, Eijun closed his eyes.
Good luck, kid.

Eijun woke to the sound of muffled footsteps. He winced at the ache in his arms and tried to ignore how his thighs were cramping. His lips felt sore as hell.
“I caught the intruder!” he heard, right as the door opened with a clang.
The sudden shift in his surroundings made him squint and he turned his head away from the door, avoiding the light.
When he turned to look at the door, Kuramochi and Miyuki were looking at the kid as he explained that he had caught the intruder trying to get into the latter’s room through the open window.
“Where is he?” Miyuki asked.
The kid puffed his chest out, his bleached hair catching light as he pointed to Eijun.
“Right over there, Boss!”
Eijun watched as Miyuki schooled his expression into a faint smile. “Is that so?”
Kuramochi bit his lip and Eijun would have scowled, had his mouth not been so incapacitated. It was evident that the asshole was holding back a laugh, his eyes twinkling with mirth.
Behind the pair, the rest of the guards were sporting various expressions, ranging from amused to downright terrified.
Eijun watched as Miyuki approached, his every step filled with purpose. The molten gaze behind his glasses sent Eijun’s heart skittering and wow, he should not have been that turned on.
“You were trying to sneak into my room?” the mob boss knelt before Eijun, his smirk widening. To any other, it would have been terrifying, but Eijun knew well enough to read the amusement in the curve of the tanuki bastard’s lips.
Damn, the tape really made him feel crippled.
He rolled his eyes and looked aside, but the effect was ruined by the ache in his muscles and he involuntarily jerked.
“How long has he been here?” Miyuki asked, his eyes still on Eijun.
“Since the afternoon, Boss! I can’t imagine what he would have done if I hadn’t caught him.”
This was going swimmingly.
Miyuki’s eyes hardened and he pressed a hand to Eijun’s cheek, the cool surface of his ring resting against soft skin. With his other hand, he ripped the tape off Eijun’s mouth, eliciting a yelp of pain and one “Miyuki Kazuya! That hurt!”
Ignoring him, Miyuki jerked his head in Kuramochi’s direction. “The key.”
With a nod, the man expertly slipped his hand into the kid’s pocket, pulling it out and then tossing it to Miyuki. Eijun exhaled in relief as the handcuffs released, bringing his hands forward and slouching forward. Rolling his shoulders did little to alleviate the backache from crouching in one position.
“Eijun.”
He looked up. Soft lips against his, soothing the burn and then one hand propping him up. Eijun’s ears burned. He was left with little choice but to close his eyes and hold on to the sensation. When Miyuki pulled away, he helped Eijun up and stared at the kid.
The boy in question was pale as parchment, his eyes so wide Eijun feared they would freeze like that.
“The intruder is actually my lover,” Miyuki said, wrapping his arm tight around Eijun’s waist. “I would appreciate if no one touched him.”
He didn’t have to complete his sentence.
The guards parted to make way as Miyuki led Eijun out of the room, his hand always resting on the small of his lover’s back.
“You’re stupid,” the older man chuckled against Eijun’s ear, a puff of hot breath accompanying the sound, setting his nerves ablaze. “What kind of cop are you?”
“Shut up,” Eijun grumbled. “It would’ve been fine if the kid hadn’t caught me.”
“And yet, he did. What does that say about your ability, Mr Policeman?”
“I was thinking about you!” Eijun griped, only to realise the gravity of his statement. Miyuki took in the mortified look and his lips curled into a devious smirk.
“Were you now?”
“You’re so, ugh!” Throwing his hands in the air, Eijun propelled himself out of the touch on his back and hastened his pace. Naturally, it took a mere fraction of a second for Miyuki to catch up to him. The afternoon sun sneaked in through the windows they walked past, drawing shadows and highlighting brown strands of hair in a strange, ethereal glow, Eijun stole glances to drink in the sight, traitorous hand snaking out to take Miyuki’s calloused one in his.
“If you say anything, I will handcuff you,” Eijun frowned.
“Why, you should have told me earlier!” Miyuki exclaimed, his eyebrows raised in mock surprise.
“What?”
“Playing with handcuffs. All you needed to do was tell me.”
“Miyuki Kazuya!” Eijun shouted, their handhold already broken as the man-child dashed ahead of him, his laughter filling the hallway. It was a rare sound, one that Eijun kept in a glass jar of treasures nestled in the depths of his heart. A fragile sound, one that could be the last he heard.
Their work was dangerous, two sides of the same coin.
That glass could shatter in the blink of an eye.
Later, when Eijun had caught Miyuki and they were curled up into each other, he pressed a kiss against the column of his lover’s throat and whispered, “I am always yours.”
“Okumura would have asked where you learned to be so poetic.”
Miyuki always deflected affection. But Eijun caught it and pressed it right back against chapped lips.
“If you talk about my junior one more time, I’m going to be convinced you have some affair with him.”
“I’m fairly certain that’s the situation you’re in.’
Eijun rolled his eyes. “Of course.”
Miyuki tucked his head under Eijun’s chin, the silky mahogany strands tickling the younger man’s throat as his unfairly long eyelashes fluttered close. Everything about this devastating man was unfair, but Eijun had fallen all the same, like a moth to a flame.
“Don’t you have work to do?”
He couldn’t ask anything else because Miyuki nipped at the sensitive skin of his throat in response and pulled him in closer, one hand resting firmly on his ass, a move that could only mean shut up before I make you my work, Eijun.
“Okay,” he grumbled against the crown of Miyuki’s head. “I get it. Sleep, then.”
When Kuramochi found them later, they were curled into each other, one of Eijun’s socks still half-hanging off his foot and his arms wrapped tightly around Miyuki.
“Typical,” he muttered, pulling the sock off the moron’s foot and draping a thick blanket over the pair, wondering how the hell he was going to initiate the poor kid who was still trembling at the basement door like his entire world had tilted on its axis.
