Slip of the Tongue

Summary:

Ochako tries to comfort Izuku after learning his crush doesn't like him back.

Notes:

So this is short fic based on a headcanon I made in the IzuOcha temple discord. The headcanon went as follows

Izuku planning to confess to Ochako on graduation day with a flower.

Izuku overhearing Ochako tell Mina she doesn't like him.

Izuku drops the flower and heads to his dorm to pack.

Ochako, relieved Mina is off her back about her crush, finds the flower.

Ochako recognizes Izuku's scent on it, feeling jealous and sad he wanted to confess to someone.

Work Text:

Izuku slid down his door, unable to hold the tears in anymore. Of course she didn't like him. Was he insane? The encouragement of Tenya and Shouto couldn't help with the facts.

She doesn't like you.

He started to laugh, his thoughts plagued with images of the two together. On the beach, in the park, at the alter... he really was an idiot. His slight laugh eventually went back to small sobs, the pain in his heart too much to hold in.

-~-~-

Ochako felt sadness. She knew there was a slim possiblity of him liking her back, he was much to invested in become a hero for that, but to know he did confess to someone, it hurt. What hurt just as much, was knowing he'd been rejected, due to the sight of the flower on the ground.

She made her way to the second floor boys dorm, to Izuku's room. She made it her mission to comfort him, he really needed it right now. As she arrived, her fist balled to knock, she heard a slight whimper. Listening intently, she heard a sob, Izuku's sob. He was crying and it really hurt her heart.

Quickly knocking, she heard the sob stop abruptly. The shuffling in the room went on for a brief moment before the door opened.

Izuku smiled as the door opened, a very fake smile, noted Ochako. The smile slightly fell as his eyes met hers. His eyes were red and slightly puffy, the visible lines on his freckled cheeks from crying.

"H-hey."

The one word response hurt her so much. All the joy and life usually in his voice was gone.

"Hey Deku. Mind if I come in?" She smiled slightly as he nodded, stepping aside, allowing her entrance. She took a seat on his bed as he took one next to her.

"S-so... Is there something y-you needed?" His voice spoke out, a forced happy tone very easy to hear.

She frowned slightly before she spoke. "I- Deku..." reaching into her pocket, she pulled out the small flower, his eyes widening as she did. "I found this on the floor outside. I... I wanted to say I'm sorry for you."

His face turned from the look of surprise, to one of confusion. "Wha?"

Ochako wanted to giggle at the adorable confused face he had, but it wasn't the time at all. "Well... I assumed that if it was on the floor... it didn't go very well."

His face slightly relaxed, she assumed some sort of relief went over him. "A-ah... y-yeah. The girl I- uh... I really liked didn't feel the same." The frown returned to his face as he looked towards the ground. "I don't really know why I thought I'd have a chance."

She wanted to give him the old, "she's missing out, any girl would be lucky to have you," speech, and it was very true, but he didn't want that. He didn't want any girl, she could tell by his face.

He really liked her.

She was envious of the mystery woman, being handed his entire heart. She could only dream of being in that position.

The silence in the room was uncomfortable, Ochako needing something to ease his pain. "Yeah, I feel the same." His head perked up slightly. "I found out the guy I like doesn't feel the same."

He winced at the words before shaking his head. "What? What do you mean?"

She smiled, laughing slightly. "Ah, well... the guy I like, he likes someone else. I found out just this morning." She felt his eyes turn sad again, the sad that you feel when someone you care about is hurt.

"I-I'm sorry Uraraka," he spoke, a slight chuckle coming out. "Looks like we both got the bad end of graduation day, huh?"

The words got a laugh out of her, lightening the mood of the room. As her laughter died down, she looked to see Izuku deep in thought. "Deku?"

His head lifted slightly. "Umm- ah- U-Uraraka?" She hummed to the question, waiting for the second part. "Wh-what did you like about him? The guy I mean? Y-you don't have t-t-to tell me obviously... I'm just... curious."

She didn't really want to talk about it, especially not with the guy himself, but he looked so... needing. She didn't understand it at all, but she'd do anything she could to help.

"Well," she started, "he is super nice, probably the most nice person I've ever met." She saw him nod slightly, letting her know to continue. "He is so, so brave, never shying away from anything." She noticed a slight dejected look on him, but continued on. "He's so strong, courageous, helpful, selfless, smart... hot," the last one making her blush. "He's just... just perfect."

Izuku let out a small laugh. "Wow... you r-really liked him."

"Y-yeah... I did. Maybe even... I don't know."

Izuku sighed once more, the sadness making Ochako's heart crumble. "I can't believe he likes someone else. I'd do anything to be in his pos... i... tion."

Ochako watched Izuku's eyes widen, his face paling. She was confused at first before his words registered in her mind. "You... what?"

His hands raised in the air, his face a pale white. "I-I... I'm so s-sorry Uraraka. I just... I overheard y-you tell Mina that you... that you didn't like me. I didn't p-plan on telling you after that and definitely didn't after hearing what h-happened with that guy."

Her face was frozen, she felt tears slowly run from her eyes down her cheeks. Izuku's face became more panicked as he noticed the tears. Before he could say a thing, she moved forward, grabbing his face.

Their lips connected, the muffled screech of Izuku only slightly heard. After a moment of muffled noises, she felt his lips moving against hers, both parties enacting in the kiss. After a few moments, they broke apart, Izuku's tears returning.

"U-ura-"

"I love you Deku. I've loved you for so, so long. Every single day it goes through my mind about how amazing you are. How beautiful you are. How perfect you are. When I found that flower I thought all hope truly was gone, but it's not, and I'm so happy."

Izuku was awestruck at the confession, his mouth hanging wide open. The tears only grew in force, his arms slowly wrapping around Ochako. "Uraraka... You... I... I love you so much... You have no idea how amazing this feels. It's like a dream. This isn't a dream right? If it is, I really don't want to wake up."

She smiled as she moved her arms around his shoulders, pressing her forehead to his. "If it is a dream, let's just stay asleep together."

Both of the two took less than five seconds to erupt into massive blushing messes at the idea of sleeping together. "T-thats not what I meant," came out of Ochako's mouth as a yelp, but her inner thoughts very much would be fine if it was.
