Work Text:
Mikitaka was fascinated by a lot of things on earth.
One of those things was the rain.
He was a bit scared of it for a while, but after Josuke showed him that rain couldn’t hurt him he was almost impossible to keep inside during the occasional light storm that hit Morioh. That of course led to Mikitaka cuddling up against him with his cold and wet body which Josuke tried to protest, but inevitably gave in to.
That was the cycle every time there was any sort of storm: go outside, play in the rain for as long as possible, and then nuzzle up against Josuke with his soaking wet body.
Mikitaka was a consistent person. He liked everything having a schedule and being able to predict what was going to happen next. So the first time there was a storm he couldn’t play in? It wasn’t a pleasant experience to say the least
——
“Josuke, I am going to go have fun in the rain. I will be seeing you later!” Mikitaka smiled as he attempted to untangle himself from Josuke’s arms, which proved to be difficult as Josuke only grunted and pulled him closer in response.
“Nooooo… stay here…. you’re so warm and cute like this. Besides, I think there’s going to be a thunderstorm soon. You should probably stay inside so you don’t get hurt,” He mumbled as he started twirling Mikitaka’s hair around his fingers. Josuke hated to admit it, but his boyfriend's long and silky hair truly did look better than his own pompadour.
“Thunder.. storm? I am unfamiliar with that terminology,” Mikitaka asked quizzingly, cocking his head a bit in curiosity. God, he was so adorable.
“Sometimes when it rains it’s actually something called a thunderstorm. Basically there’s a lot of loud noises and some funky looking zappy thingies. There’s a really small chance that they’ll actually hurt you but it’s better or stay inside just in case. Also I don’t really know much about your alien body so for all I know you might explode when you get near lightning.” Josuke smiled as he explained, gently cupping his clueless partner’s cheeks.
Mikitaka’s eyes lit up as he gained new knowledge about earth’s weather. He loved learning new things about the planet he was inhabiting, and it was made all the better by the fact that he didn’t have to get hurt to find them out.
Josuke continued gently spooning Mikitaka and playing with his hair for the next hour or so. Normally an hour of doing nothing but talking would bore the both of them, but when they were with each other it seemed to be the opposite. Mikitaka would occasionally ask questions about the thunderstorms and other types of weather, and Josuke was happy to answer them. Overall, everything seemed to be going well.
“Josuke? Is that the thunderstorm phenomenon you informed me about?” Mikitaka asked excitedly as he pointed at a handful of dark grey clouds he spotted out the window. His eyes were sparkling and he had a massive smile stretched across his face that was almost impossible not to completely melt at.
“Mhm! It should start pouring any minute now.” As if the rain was reading Josuke’s mind, the first boom of thunder came immediately after those words left his mouth. Mikitaka jumped a bit, not expecting the noises he’d been informed about to be that loud.
“Aww don’t be scared babe! It’s just some loud sounds, they can’t hurt y-” Josuke cut himself off as the three more claps of thunder hit, each one louder than the last. Mikitaka whimpered and brought his knees to his face. How long would this go on for?
“Josuke I do not like this. I would like it to cease,” he said with the most serious tone he could muster despite the immense fear coursing through his body. He couldn’t exactly pinpoint why he was afraid, it was mostly that he had just never liked loud noises.
“It’ll be alright baby.. I’m right here, I’ll keep you safe. It’ll be over soon,” Josuke soothed, pulling Mikitaka as close as possible and resting his hands on the other’s hips. It seemed to calm him down, at least temporarily, and that made both of them feel better about the entire situation.
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. After a few minutes of everything being mostly fine, Josuke got a flash flood alert to his phone. That would have been bad enough on it’s own, but the noise sounded exactly like a siren.
Oh no.
Within seconds Mikitaka was whimpering and tearing up, his face rapidly turning red as it always did when there were sirens around. It didn’t take long for Josuke to silence the alert, but that didn’t help with the fact that his boyfriend was now completely on edge and panicking. His nails were dug deeply into Josuke’s skin, and the tears in his eyes were now rolling down his cheeks.
“What happened? Why were the siren noises coming out of your telecommunication device?” Mikitaka whimpered out, his hands not moving an inch from where they were dug into Josuke’s back.
“I.. well.. uh.. that just means that there’s going to be a lot of rain really soon. Like a lot of rain. It’ll be okay though, I promise.”
“Does that mean there’s going to be more of the scary noises?”
Josuke sighed and nodded. He absolutely hated seeing Mikitaka all shaken up like this, but he didn’t really know how to calm him down other than just holding him and playing with his hair. He sighed, gently wiping away the tears that were still falling down the adorable little alien’s face. A few more booms of thunder hit, but Mikitaka managed to stay somewhat calm through them. Eventually, he rested his head into Josuke’s chest and finally smiled for the first time since the storm started.
Which is when everything went to shit again.
After one particularly loud boom, all of the power in Josuke’s house shut off within seconds. Mikitaka screamed and started to freak out a hundred times worse than before.
“JOSUKE WHAT HAPPENED? WHERE ARE YOU? ARE YOU ALIVE? PLEASE ANSWER ME I DON’T WANT TO DIE!” he yelled out with just as much volume as nervousness. Which was a lot .
“Hey, calm down! I’m right here. Everything’s fine and you’re not going to die. We just can’t see each other for a while because the power went out. I’m still holding you, idiot.” Josuke laughed and tried to lighten the mood, but it didn’t work in the slightest.
“Josuke I don’t like this… when will it be over? I want it to stop,” he said between sniffles, his hands finally moving themselves up to Josuke’s neck. “M-may I please have a kiss? They make me feel really comfortable and safe,” Mikitaka pleaded. He had huge puppy dog eyes and his lips were pouting ever so slightly. Josuke couldn’t see those things obviously, but it’s not like he needed them in order to say yes. In fact, he was momentarily glad that he couldn’t see his adorable eyes or pout because they only would have made the scarlet tint that covered his face even darker.
“Of course,” was all Mikitaka got as a response before Josuke crashed their lips together. It was a messy kiss and definitely not their best, but something about kissing in the dark made both of them feel amazing. And for Mikitaka, it made him feel more calm about everything that was happening. The tears that trickled down his face slowly came to a stop, and with it so did his fear of the thunder outside. He still jumped from time to time, but it was more out of surprise than fear.
“Thank you Josuke. I feel content now.”
But Josuke was already asleep, hands loosely gripping onto his partner’s neck.
