Maybe, walking at the Han river alone at night wasn’t your best idea. But after the rough day, you‘ve been through, you had to calm down somehow. And the Han river parks had this particular quietness at night, you had craved after the disaster of a day.
Despite the calmness, there were always those type of people around, that left you with an unpleasant feeling. Glances lingering on you small petite figure, that seemed almost threatening. That’s why normally you only come around at day time or when a friend of yours accompanied you. It was always a litte dangerous for a young woman in the dark. Better safe than sorry, right?
But it had been almost midnight when your small apartment you shared with a fellow uni student felt too small, leading you to go outside. Not wanting to disturb your best friend‘s sleep, after all she stayed up way too often studying for her upcoming finals, you went alone to the nearest 7/11. Grabbing two Samgak Gimbap, beer and a small bottle of Soju, you continued your way to the river. Your destination was one of the benches at the Han river park you always visited, when you had felt like everything got too much.
Sighing, you opened the can of beer, took a swig and poured some Soju in the can. Admiring Seoul‘s lights in front of you, you took a sip and slowly opened the Gimbap triangle, taking a bite. You hummed. Despite the Han river parks being a little bit more secluded, you could hear a siren in the distance and muted car noises.
Your phone tinged in your jacket pocket and you took it out to look at the notification. It was a message from your roommate, asking if she will spend the night at her best friend’s flat. Taking another bite, you started typing answer, when suddenly your phone was taken from you and a knife was held to your neck.
“Don’t make any noise” a deep voice said behind you. “Hand me your wallet and I‘ll let you go!” Your breathing stopped. What were the chances? Slowly you reached inside your pocket, gripping your wallet. Think, you have to think! “What are you waiting for? Do it!” he turned a little bit louder. Your breathing turned quicker and on impulse you threw your wallet a few feet beside you. Cursing, the pickpocket moved to the wallet, letting your phone drop beside you at the same time.
You quickly grabbed it and started running for your life, not stopping until you crashed into someone around the next corner. “Fuck, I’m so sorry! Are you okay?” You asked, breathing hard. Despite the guy wearing a black facemask and a black woolly hat, his shock was written in his eyes. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I got mugged and-”, you started tearing up, “He- he had a knife and I- I’m sorry.” You angrily wiped your tears, taking a step back. “Fuck, I’m sorry if I hurt you.”
He frowned. “Hey hey hey. It’s okay, you’re safe now.” Your eyes snapped up to his again. Did you hear correctly? Was this in front of you your soulmate? Your mouth opened, but no sound came out. Then, you started sobbing. “I’m sorry, I’m not usually like this, but I was so scared. I-“
He looked at you softly and pulled you into a hug. “Shh, it’s alright now. He didn’t hurt you, right?” You shook your head, putting your arms around his waist and burying your face in his chest. “That’s all that matters right now.”
After a moment you pulled out of the hug and wiped your tearstained cheeks. Taking a look at him, you said your name. “Thank you for calming me down.” Now that you took a second look, he seemed kind of familiar to you. “I’m sorry, I know it’s not possible because we’ve just said our words, but do I know you? You look kind of familiar.”
He chuckled and took off his facemask. “That could be kind of possible.” Your eyes widened, “Oh, shoot! You’re Namjoon!” Your soulmate was Kim Namjoon. Leader of the most popular band in your whole country. Idol Kim Namjoon.
“So, you’re ARMY?”, he asked, his dimples on full display now. You could only manage to nod. “Well, I was actually on my way back to the dorm. Fancy warming up there?” It seemed like you were broken, because again you could only manage to nod.
