Chapter 1: Chapter 1

Chapter Text

Fast footsteps clattered on the sidewalk. Running. Not away, to something. Blue and red lights flashed in the distance. A muffled voice inaudible over a speaker. Pants. Screams. Cries.

Cal didn’t know where he was running to, just that he needed to get there, and fast. He was able to spot an all too familiar figure in the distance. His footsteps slowed as he approached himself. He was looking at a funhouse mirror version of himself. The clone was fully shifted, a beast among men. A large muzzle caged the young wolf's mouth, special handcuffs on his large paw-like hands.

The crying and screams weren’t coming from any injured civilians, instead it came from the boy himself. Another being was sobbing not too far away. His mother was covering her eyes, turned away from the scene, but right towards Cal. He wanted to comfort his mom, but his legs wouldn’t move. He yelled out for her, his voice getting louder and louder.

Cal shot up into consciousness, the last of his sceam leaving his lips. His heavy breath filled the room. He could hear muffled voices outside of his room, then the door slowly opened.

“Hey Cal,” Izuku said, entering into his fake boyfriend’s room. “How’s it going in here?”

The green-haired boy was always awkward around the other. Their fake relationship seemed to go almost too well for their comfort. Their friends were quick to accept they were dating, some even saying they saw it coming. Neither of them knew why that was said, just that it made both of them uncomfortable.

“Everythin’ is fine, Deku,” Cal responded in English, his slight Texan accent thickened by grogginess and fear. Izuku was shocked at first. Not only from the tone, but the switch to the other’s native language. He knew English, but was used to him speaking Japanese with the rest of them. Cal recognized his change and switched back to what had become more comfortable with his years spent at UA. “I had a nightmare. It’s the same one I’ve had for years, nothing new to worry about.”

“If you ever need to talk about anything I’m here for you. Remember, before all this we were just good friends.” They hugged each other tightly. Cal slowly pulled back.

“Enough emotions, I’m gonna try sneaking upstairs before we have to leave for school.” Izuku left the room and he got dressed. Cal made his way out of the room and started moving toward the elevator that would take him to the top floors.

His attempts seemed to be in vein as any and all his classmates stopped to make sure he was okay. They crowded around him, slowing his steady pace to a stop. As he was talking with them, he noticed one standing along the wall. The familiar scowl rested on Bakugou’s face. He had a strange look in his eyes, like he wanted to say something but was being restrained.

A bell rang inside the dorms, the signal to begin heading to the entrance of the school. Cal sighed and gave one last look toward the elevators. He gave up and walked back to his room to grab his bag.

“Out of the way, Cal,” Bakugou said, bumping into him leaving his room.

“Sorry Bakugou, didn’t mean t-” He stopped mid sentence, eyeing the other boy. “Did you just call me Cal? Not an extra, or wolf-boy, or any other nickname?”

“Shut up.” With that, he left Cal to himself.
