Work Text:
Choromatsu placed the book down on the table in front of him, wiping a tear from his eye. No matter how many times he read this book, it always got him at the end. Such a satisfying story. The way the main character took on challenges, grew as a person, and finally realized their happiness, it was so great!
The saddest part was that it was over. Choromatsu loved the ending, but he wanted more. He wanted to read more, spend more time with you, in your world. Of course there was a solution! One that could be found on the internet.
Choromatsu got up to find the laptop, bringing it over to the table. He opened up his favorite website, archive of our own. It was a fantastic place filled with hundreds of thousands of stories. Some even based on your story! He looked up the title and got searching through the works, trying to find one that appealed to him.
Hmm. Nothing was really catching his attention. There was a coffee shop AU, a band AU, a magic AU. The stories looked interesting, but none scratched that itch he had. He didn't want to just read about you in another world, he wanted to be with you in your world.
Yes! He wanted a reader insert story! Choromatsu had already read through the ones posted before and no new ones had appeared. That one he kept hoping would update hadn't had a new chapter in over a year! Ugh! Not that he could get too mad. People were writing for free.
Ah, wait a second! Choromatsu's eyes lit up as he realized that he too could write a story! One that had exactly all the things he was looking for! There was nothing stopping him! In fact, ideas were already coming to him. He opened up a word processor and got to typing.
The night was dark, but the air was electric, filled with many lights and people buzzing about. I looked around myself, taking in the surroundings. Stalls were set up with food, games, and other merchandise. Lanterns hung above, casting everything in a warm pale glow.
This was the summer festival. I was excited to be here, but at the same time I wasn't sure what to do first. I knew I wanted some takoyaki, to play some of the games, but it was overwhelming deciding what to do first.
That's when I spotted you. Wearing a yukata, wandering about as you looked down at the ground, clearly searching for something. I felt like I needed to help you, even though I didn't know you at all. I walked toward you, clearing my throat as I asked, "Did you need help?"
You looked up, startled. "Oh, uh, yes. I lost my wallet somewhere, I can't find it." You bit your lip, dismay coming through your quivering voice. "Can you help me find it?"
"Yeah! Of course." I wanted to help! I felt bad that you were even in such a predicament. If I lost my wallet, I would be upset too. "What does it look like?"
"Oh." Your face went a bit red. "It's pink and green."
"Alright. Did you lose it around here?" I asked.
"Yes. I think so." You sighed, running a hand over your hair. "I can't believe I was so clumsy."
"I can be pretty clumsy too." I decided not to mention all the times I fell over or otherwise embarrassed myself. "It's fine, let's get searching for it."
You nodded, continuing on your search. I looked towards the opposite side, trying to not run into people as my eyes stayed glued to the ground. It had to be somewhere, hopefully no one had picked it up and run off with it.
As I was searching, I did see something on the ground, between two stalls. I raced towards it, seeing a wallet with a picture of Nyaa-chan on it. In a panic, I patted my side, ensuring that I still had my wallet on me. It was there, so this wallet that looked almost identical to my own, could it be yours? It was technically pink and green.
I picked it up, now in search of you so I could return your wallet. Thankfully it wasn't too difficult to find you. "Hey, is this your wallet?"
You looked at it, a blush forming on your face. "Yes. Thank you."
As you took it, I pulled out my own wallet. "I like Nyaa-chan too!"
Your eyes sparkled brighter than any of the lanterns. "You do? Really? I never met anyone else!" You looked away, scratching the back of your head. "Sorry, I got a bit excited."
"It's fine! I'm excited too." I looked at your face, shining with that excitement. Your smile was so amazing, stunning really. It made me want to make you smile more. "I'm Matsuno Choromatsu by the way!"
"Nice to meet you." You bowed slightly before telling me your name. "Hey, are you going to the Nyaa-chan concert next week?"
I wanted to go, but since a certain older brother of mine had stolen my money, I hadn't been able to purchase tickets. Seriously! What a jerk! Oh, I mean, I replied, "I couldn't get tickets."
"I happened to buy an extra one for my friend, but they have to work. Do you want to go with me?" You asked with a sheepish smile. "It can be your reward for helping me find my wallet."
"Of course!" I replied. I didn't even care about a reward or anything, but going to a Nyaa-chan concert with you, now that was appealing. I couldn't wait to see how much you smiled at the show.
We exchanged phone numbers and went our separate ways. I could hardly contain my joy! What luck! I was going to that Nyaa-chan concert after all, and I could see you again! I was so so happy!
The day of the concert came. I was roving about my room, trying to decide what to wear. A certain older brother of mine was trying to help, but I was NOT going to wear that stupid glittery thing you call pants, you hear me Karamatsu? Er, I mean, we eventually decided on a pretty subdued outfit with a green button down shirt and khaki pants. Not that different from what I normally wear, honestly. I didn't need to get dressed up, it was just a Nyaa-chan concert…
"So who is this person you are going with again?" Todomatsu asked me. Of course he would he has to know everyone's business.
"Just a friend I met recently." I replied. My face grew red as I thought of you. Why was that happening? Was I just nervous to meet up with a friend?
"Like a date?" Osomatsu asked, laughing to himself.
"It's not a date!" I declared. It wasn't right? We hardly knew each other! It wasn't like that, honest. Just two friends going to a concert. I kinda hoped we could be better friends after this though.
"It better not be." Osomatsu glared. "You can't go on a date before I do!"
"I guess we are all doomed then." Todomatsu laughed. "Because that's never gonna happen."
A mild fight broke out between the two, but I didn't have the time for that! I had to get going. I checked the time on my cell phone which is something I absolutely have and not something I made out of cardboard to look like I actually have my life together. It was getting late and I didn't want to make you wait. So I ignored their squabbling and hurried to the concert venue.
I was glad I wasn't late, but I also didn't see you. I hoped you hadn't gotten lost or something else. Or perhaps, decided to not come at all because you didn't want to be seen with a loser like me! As I was standing outside, sweating not just because of the heat, I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Matsuno-san!" You said cheerfully. "Are you ready for the concert?"
You looked great. I thought the yukata looked good on you, but maybe you are just the type of person to make any outfit look good. That was besides the point, you were here and we were going to have a great time at the concert. "I'm more than ready."
"Here's your ticket, c'mon, let's go, I wanna get a good spot!" You handed me a ticket and rushed towards the doors. Your excitement was infectious, I found myself chasing after you with a grin.
We got good spots right up front. It was always fun to be so close to the action. It made the concert feel more alive. It makes me feel more alive. Nothing can compare to the raw feeling of experiencing a concert first hand. The music pulsing through my body, feeling one with the crowd as we chant the lyrics in unison. Fantastic! Even better with you by my side.
The show ended and we walked outside together. That had to be the best concert ever! I wish it could last forever. Or maybe I just wish I could spend a bit more time with you.
"I guess this is where we part ways." You smiled, although I thought I heard sadness in your tone. "I had a lot of fun with you, Matsuno-san!"
"Yeah." I didn't want it to end here. I wasn't sure if I would ever see you again and that felt sad. I felt like I had to do something. "Hey, there is this really cool cafe that opened up down the street."
"Hmmm?" You replied with interest. "I am hungry after all that dancing."
"Me too. It's a really cool place. They have a bunch of books to read while you eat." I hoped you would like that, you seemed the type who was into reading.
"I heard of that place, The Bookmark Cafe, right? I've been wanting to try it out." You smiled that happy grin of yours and my heart felt like it was melting. How could you be so sweet and perfect?
"Let's go then." With great courage. I reached out and
And
And
And held your hand. I held your hand! "So. So. So you don't get lost."
You nodded, but you had a blush on your face as together we walked off.
Choromatsu hid his face behind his hands. Holding hands. Was he being too forward? The thought of your hands intertwined with his. Oh goodness. Choromatsu felt steam coming from his ears! How lewd! Holding hands!
Just then, Osomatsu came into the room. He looked at his brother staring at the laptop with a bright red face. "Uh, what are you doing?"
"NOTHING." Choromatsu jumped up, slamming the laptop shut. "I have never once done a single thing in my entire life!"
Choromatsu fled from the room, his face somehow even more red.
Osomatsu had to know what he was looking at. It must be kinky porn, right? He opened up the laptop to see a wall of text. He scanned it, realizing his brother had been writing a story about himself. And getting flustered over holding hands.
Maybe it would be for the best if he pretended he never saw this. Osomatsu closed the laptop and left the room, shaking his head.
