Work Text:
jungkook had a habit of falling asleep wherever he was.
okay, it wasn’t really a habit. given all the concerts, music shows, photoshoots and interviews they had in one week alone, falling asleep during any precious break was understandable.
seokjin actually found it a little hard to nap in between breaks - he always felt like he’d have to rush to get his makeup done or get dressed if he accidentally slept for too long and no one woke up him.
no, his job was to make sure that jungkook doesn’t fall flat on his face when he decides to take a nap. it could be anywhere.
one time, whilst they were filming a run episode, their mission was to actually fall asleep, and even then, jungkook managed to fall off of his inflatable bed.
it was adorable.
of course, seokjin doesn’t think that because he’s heads over heels in love with jungkook, or anything. no, not at all.
he sighs to himself as he tosses around in his bed. jungkook always plagued his thoughts. jungkook and his precious, bright, bunny smile.
he didn’t always tell cringy dad jokes and exaggerate things for no reason, you know. anything that made jungkook smile, he’d do it. he always felt like the room would light up whenever jungkook smiled.
seokjin feels around for his phone, grimacing at the light that blares through the screen. 3am. he had to be up in three hours. and yet, there he was, thinking about jungkook falling asleep - jungkook in general - when he himself should be sleeping.
he always slept better when jungkook was with him, anyways. ever since that one time in the first season of bon voyage where they slept together in the small, tiny caravan they travelled around in. not to mention that one run episode.
taehyung walks into the room, spying jimin and smiling excitedly. he doesn’t notice seokjin standing behind the door - holding his rj plushie - nor jungkook, who was lying underneath a bed.
four to a room. that was fine. seokjin was already happy enough that he was rooming with jungkook.
taehyung spies seokjin - his face falls, and then jungkook pulls himself from out underneath the bed, and they’re a laughing mess.
they had a fun day, full of games and food and its a day that finishes with all of them exhausted, although in the good way. seokjin gladly falls into bed with jungkook.
“goodnight, hyung,” jungkook murmurs, and seokjin has to try so hard to not pull the younger closer. he just wants to cuddle.
“night, bun,” seokjin whispers back, and the lights go off.
the next morning, when a camera man pops into the room to film them, seokjin points passive aggressively to the door because 1. he was intensely enjoying sleeping on the same bed as jungkook and 2. jungkook was still asleep and he’d be damned if he let anyone disturb the youngest’s sleep and 3. jungkook was shirtless.
he looks over to jungkook, to check if he was still asleep. satisfied upon seeing the younger’s closed eyes, slightly parted lips and even breathing, he folds his own hands underneath his head, with rj propped beneath his elbow, and tries to get back to sleep.
yes, that was another night of extremely good sleep.
it didn’t help that during their showcase in dna era, seokjin asked “so, where do you want to sleep?” and jungkook had replied with zero hesitation, “your bed.”
years of training had kept his reaction relatively normal - he was still flustered - because under the watchful eyes of their fans, anything could be misinterpreted. even now, whenever jungkook said something that was remotely flirty, seokjin had a hard time keeping a straight face.
at least he didn’t know that he was in love, then.
god knows that he was definitely in love by the fourth season of bon voyage in new zealand, when jungkook had blown him a kiss whilst falling to his death hanging upside down on one of those swing things. seokjin was terrified, but he was blown a kiss, so.
seokjin’s heart plummets as jungkook’s string is released, and he goes flying into the open air.
he could hear the boy’s faint yells of excitement over the members’ own exclamations, and he watches as jungkook swings back and forth.
a while later, jungkook is back up where the rest of the members were, and says breathlessly, “i blew jin-hyung a kiss! did you guys see it?”
whilst seokjin is figuring out how to stop himself from blushing, yoongi, namjoon and hoseok are all nodding, saying they saw it, before seokjin himself says, “i told hobi that it was directly to me.” he tries not to melt at jungkook’s face.
“that’s good,” jungkook grins, and seokjin’s heart beats even faster.
that was also a trip when jungkook thoroughly enjoyed fixing seokjin’s hair for him. of course, seokjin wasn’t complaining, because jungkook was so cute, and his hair made him look like triangle kimbap, and it was all seokjin could do to not kiss him to death.
he squeezes his eyes shut, determined to actually get some sleep before he had to wake up and get ready for a music show.
he barely gets an hour of sleep.
the sun was barely up when he was clambering almost blindly into the van that would take them to wherever. he slumps down into the first seat he finds.
“morning, hyung,” a small voice says from behind him, and he is instantly awake, blinking the sleep out of his eyes as he turns his body around to locate the owner of the voice.
jungkook was bundled up in a huge, black oversized sweater, paired with black joggers and his familiar, black stomper boots. he gives seokjin a sleepy, slightly lopsided smile.
seokjin’s heart burns at the sight. “morning, jungkook-ah.”
“did you sleep well last night?” the younger asks as he stifles a yawn. he was so small.
seokjin bites back a smile. “yeah, i did. what about you?”
“at least three hours.” ah, an average of how much they slept in a day.
seokjin frowns. “could you not get to sleep?” rather hypocritical of him, but he wanted jungkook to feel well rested.
those doe eyes stare back at him. “i was gaming,” jungkook replies sheepishly, and seokjin rolls his eyes. of course.
seokjin moves to sit next to jungkook - sue him, he liked being near jungkook - and the younger one lets out another yawn before resting his head on seokjin’s shoulder. “sleep for a bit more now, kook.”
“thanks, hyung,” jungkook murmurs, closing his eyes. “your shoulders are so wide. it’s comfortable to sleep on.”
seokjin can try to pretend that he’s not in love with jungkook. really, he’s trying.
the van door slides open again to reveal yoongi and jimin, both looking just as dead as seokjin felt, and as they fasten their seatbelts, the car begins to move.
the waiting room is bustling with staff as seokjin is ushered into a chair and one of the familiar, make-up staff begins to work on him.
“did you manage to sleep last night?” she asks, eyebrows raised, as if she could tell from seokjin’s eyebags that he napped, more than slept.
seokjin smiles tiredly. “not really.”
she doesn’t say anything, only giving him a sympathetic smile before lathering on the concealer, and he lets her do her work.
twenty minutes later, when she nudges him to get changed into his stage outfit, he murmurs out his thanks and disappears into the changing room.
he comes out, aiming for one of the couches and isn’t surprised to see jungkook dozing there, already changed and dolled up.
seokjin lowers himself gently onto one end of the couch, careful not to jostle jungkook before pulling out his phone and scrolling through one of his apps.
a few minutes later, jungkook shifts, and moves so that his head is in seokjin’s lap, and his long legs are dangling over the arm of the couch.
“do you want me to move?” seokjin asks quietly, because even though he’s a little taller than jungkook, jungkook’s limbs are incredibly long.
“no,” comes a small reply, through pouty lips. seokjin’s heart skips a beat. jungkook was so precious. “i’m comfortable like this, hyung.” he proceeds to nestle into seokjin’s thigh, and seokjin is trying so hard not to die right then and there, opting to run his hand through jungkook’s soft, silken, styled-
he pulls back, glancing around to see if any of the staff saw him messing up jungkook’s hair. they’d kill him.
a whine comes from jungkook, and seokjin’s heart skips several beats this time. “hyung, do it again.”
“i can’t mess up your hair, bun,” seokjin laughs, the pet name slipping out unconsciously. “the staff will kill me.”
“i’ll protect you,” jungkook murmurs with a sleepy smile, and seokjin thinks he’s going to die, but then namjoon walks up and sits near him, starting up a conversation, and seokjin is safe for now, even with a sleeping boy in his lap.
he hates to wake jungkook up when they’re called up on stage, but jungkook gets up without any complaints, giving seokjin a small, tired smile that makes him want to cancel their schedule so that jungkook - and the rest of the members - could sleep for at least a week before doing anything else.
they perform and perform, and when they descend the steps from the stage, jungkook attaches himself to seokjin’s back as they head back towards the waiting room.
“i’m sleepy, hyung,” jungkook mumbles into seokjin’s ear, and seokjin turns slightly so that he can wrap an arm around jungkook’s ridiculously small waist.
“we’re almost done, jungkook-ah,” seokjin coos, because he can’t help it, and supports some of jungkook’s weight as they return into the waiting room, where their first meal awaited.
everytime jungkook gave him some kind of hug, seokjin is reminded of their photoshoot for puma, when they were paired together.
he’d never tell anyone this, but it was his favourite photoshoot. for multiple reasons.
one, he was paired with jungkook. of course he was going to love it. two, jungkook was holding flowers and looking like the most adorable person on planet. three, most of the shoot consisted of hugs.
“hyung, what if we do this?” jungkook asks, and seokjin raises his eyebrows expectantly. they were dressed in their puma clothes and shoes, standing in front of a red backdrop. it was one of their more chilled-out shoots, which seokjin always appreciated.
“do what?” seokjin asks, and that’s when jungkook wraps his arms around seokjin and squeezes tight, laughing in his ear.
seokjin’s back is facing the camera, but he doesn’t care, because he’s hugging jungkook, and it doesn't seem like the photographer cares either, because the flash is going off multiple times, and the staff are laughing, and seokjin is so in love with jungkook .
when he looks back at the pictures, he almost wants to keep it to himself, because even if his face wasn’t in it, jungkook’s arms are around him and the younger has the biggest smile on his face - seokjin’s favourite smile, because it always seemed to be reserved for him. or at least, the fans claimed that jungkook had a ‘jin-hyung smile’.
he’s seen their fansite’s pictures. he sort of knows what their fans mean.
seokjin has the picture framed somewhere in his house, but no one knows that.
he shakes the memory away, well aware that jungkook was still clinging onto him as they enter the waiting room, the smell of pizzas awaiting them. not exactly a healthy first meal, but it was something.
jungkook perks up at the smell, and seokjin laughs - and is slightly disappointed - when jungkook leaves his side to get a slice.
taehyung gets there first and hands jungkook a slice before eating his own, and its one of those times where seokjin sits back and watches as the members dote on jungkook, making sure that he eats well, sleeps well, takes care of himself, etc.
he was glad that jungkook always had someone taking care of him.
he waits until the rest of the members had grabbed their slice before stepping forward to pick one up for himself, only to be stopped by jungkook, who holds out a plate with a slice on it. “for you, hyung,” jungkook says, mouth full of pizza.
seokjin’s heart is bursting. “thank you, jungkook-ah.”
jungkook goes back to eating, seokjin sits next to hoseok, the group continue to eat in silence, and seokjin is so in love.
when they’re back at their apartment, jungkook doesn’t hesitate to cling onto seokjin again, and seokjin is reminded of yet another one of their hugging moments that was broadcasted.
they were filming another episode for run - this time jungkook’s hair was red, and seokjin’s was somewhat blonde - and they had cooked their menus for a visiting chef to try.
the rapline won first place, but seokjin, who was paired with jungkook - he was very happy about that - had tied with jimin and taehyung.
the directors told them to decide with rock-paper-scissors, and the losers would have to clean up everyone’s mess.
jungkook goes first, up against taehyung, and manages to win. he throws himself into seokjin’s arms, surprising him with a tight hug that seokjin gladly returns.
if they weren’t being filmed right now, he wouldn’t let go for a while, but they had to win.
jimin steps up, and this time, jungkook loses, which leaves seokjin to go against jimin.
with the thought in mind that he really didn’t want to clean up, nor let jungkook clean, he plays against jimin, and they both put out scissors.
the tension was high - rapline were watching with keen, winning eyes, and taehyung was whispering underneath his breath.
seokjin puts out rock, jimin scissors, and just like that, seokjin’s team doesn’t have to clean, and they win second place.
seokjin yells happily, as does jungkook, and then jungkook is folding him into his arms, lifting him up, and seokjin wraps his legs around jungkook’s waist as they celebrate.
seokjin goes as red as jungkook’s hair.
jimin excuses himself to go and practice - ever the hard worker - as the rest of the group gather in their living room.
“i’m going to go to my studio,” seokjin announces as the rest sit down, lounging on their plush couches. “work on my song a bit.”
he hears hums of acknowledgement back - they must be tired - before he retreats, making for his studio.
he hears footsteps behind him, and then, “hyung!”
he turns around to see jungkook with that big smile, rushing towards him. seokjin wonders if it was the ‘jin-hyung smile’. “what’s up, jungkook-ah?”
“can i come sit with you while you work?” jungkook asks, his bright, brown eyes filled with hope. “might inspire me to finish my songs.”
seokjin laughs, and reaches out to ruffle jungkook’s hair. “of course, bun.”
because he can’t say no to jungkook.
“are you sure you’re not too tired, though?” jungkook asks as they walk side by side. their hands are almost touching.
“jimin’s just gone to practice some more, and you’re asking me if i’m tired?” seokjin teases, fighting to urge to hold jungkook’s hand. “nah, i’m okay.”
“jimin-hyung’s a machine,” jungkook replies, rolling his eyes. “at least he got more sleep that you last night.”
seokjin raises a brow. “and how do you know that?”
“because you look tired.”
seokjin grimaces. “i did sleep.”
“for how long?” jungkook challenges.
“like, an hour,” seokjin admits.
“you said you slept well last night!” jungkook says indignantly as they reach the studio. seokjin punches in the code, and pushes the door open.
“i did,” seokjin replies, waiting for jungkook to enter before he shut the door.
“one hour is not enough, hyung.” jungkook frowns, taking a step closer. feeling self conscious all of a sudden, well aware that he doesn’t have make-up on, he steps back. “can you not fall asleep?”
seokjin wrinkles his nose, moving to sit in a chair. “well…” not as well as that one time in that small caravan in europe , he thinks.
“do you want some sleeping pills?” jungkook asks, moving closer and sits himself on seokjin’s lap. seokjin loves it.
jungkook always did it, whenever they took group photos in the waiting room whether after music shows or concerts. he liked to sit on people’s laps, and seokjin was more than happy to offer his own.
“nah,” seokjin shakes his head, wrapping his arms around jungkook’s waist as the younger leans back, head lolling onto seokjin’s shoulder. “they give me headaches.”
“you should rest, though,” jungkook murmurs. “not work.”
“i can’t actually work when you’re sat on top of me, jungkook-ah.”
“good,” jungkook grumbles, resting his hands on top of seokjin’s arms. “you can just sleep like this.”
“didn’t you want some inspiration?” seokjin asks, moving his hands to jungkook’s hips and pushing slightly. and even though he doesn’t really mean it, he says, “come on, get off me.”
instead of getting off, jungkook turns his head, and his lips brush against seokjin’s neck.
seokjin jerks back slightly, feeling his ears begin to burn. his heart was beating faster and faster each second. they were very close.
“are you tired, jungkook-ah?” seokjin gets out, leaning away subtly to look at jungkook’s face. the younger had a small, sleepy look on his face. “you look tired.”
“i got more sleep than you last night, though,” is jungkook’s reply, and he nestles his head into the gap between seokjin’s neck and shoulder, and seokjin hates to do it, but he moves away.
his heart was already exploding.
jungkook lifts his head up, frowning. seokjin wants to kiss it away, to bring the sleepy, soft smile back. “why do you keep moving away, hyung?”
“am i?” seokjin says distractedly, because jungkook is adorable even when he pouts. seokjin would do anything for jungkook.
they’d finished the love yourself concert in london, in the O2 arena. jungkook had hurt himself before the concert even started - he cried during the concert and seokjin wanted to do nothing more but hug the boy forever.
so when the concert finishes, seokjin offers to push jungkook’s wheelchair for him, because he was going to try his best to get the pout off of jungkook’s lips and get him smiling again. he loved jungkook’s smile.
“why are you being so nice?” jungkook asks as he sits down into the wheelchair.
seokjin pretends to be offended, and says, “say, ‘i’m so thankful for you, hyung’, as we walk out of the room.”
jungkook repeats it, and seokjin begins to push him down a long hallway. “say, ‘thank you so much, hyung’,” seokjin murmurs.
“thank you so much, hyung,” jungkook says.
“oh, no worries at all, jungkook-ah,” seokjin says, exaggerating a little. then, quietly, “say, ‘hyung, you’re so sweet’.”
“hyung, you’re so sweet,” jungkook answers, and seokjin can hear the smile in his voice now. thank god.
“there’s no need to say that,” seokjin replies, biting back a smile. “i’m just happy to help.” he whispers something else into jungkook’s ear for the younger to repeat.
jungkook was giggling, now. “i’ll never forget your kindness, hyung.”
seokjin lets himself smile. “i’m not being kind! it’s nothing, really.” he tells jungkook to say one last thing.
“hyung, i love you,” jungkook says, and seokjin’s heart is bursting.
“alright, i love you too,” seokjin replies, and he would be lying if he didn’t start all of this just to hear jungkook say ‘i love you’ to him. and to get a smile back on jungkook’s face, of course.
“yeah, you’re pulling away,” jungkook says, pulling seokjin out of his thoughts. he was still pouting. he opens his mouth to speak again, and then hesitates. seokjin waits, because he’ll always wait for jungkook.
“do you not want me to be here, hyung?” jungkook asks, sitting up a little straighter. seokjin’s hands were still on his hips. “i can go, if you want.”
seokjin frowns. “i didn’t say that, jungkook-ah.”
jungkook hesitates, then mutters,“i know, but you keep moving away.”
seokjin takes a deep breath, then slowly lets it out. “it’s a little hard to think when you’re this close to me, jungkook-ah.”
jungkook cocks his head, a confused expression replacing the frown. “why?”
“because i love you a lot,” seokjin says casually. and then, “um.”
jungkook’s frown is back. he twists his body so that each leg was on either side of seokjin, and his hands were on seokjin’s shoulders. very close. seokjin was losing the ability to think. to speak.
“i love you too, hyung,” jungkook says, and seokjin is happy and sad at the same time, because he loves hearing it from jungkook, but its not the way he wants jungkook to say it.
seokjin clears his throat, bowing his head slightly. “um, yeah.”
“no, hyung.” jungkook’s hand finds seokjin’s chin and forces him to look up. “i love you.”
now, seokjin is confused. “you just said that.”
“yeah, but you look like you’re sad,” jungkook replies.
“so you’re only saying it because i look sad?”
“no, hyung,” jungkook says, letting out a sigh. “i mean it.”
“i know you do.”
“no, like, i mean it.” jungkook was beginning to blush now. seokjin always loved it when jungkook blushed. he looked so pretty. even prettier when he smiled.
seokjin blinks. “i mean it, too.” in the not-so-platonic way.
jungkook removes a hand from seokjin’s shoulder to press two fingers at his brows. “hyung, for someone so smart, you sure are dumb.”
“hey,” seokjin chastises, squeezing jungkook’s hips. “some respect, please.”
“hyung,” jungkook starts, cupping seokjin’s face in his hands. his hands were so soft. “i really love you. like...more than a friendly way.”
seokjin’s brain stops working. “what?”
jungkook stares into seokjin’s eyes. he was starting to look a little nervous, now. “um, well, i might have like, a tiny crush on you, and i just thought, you know-”
“wait,” seokjin interrupted, blinking a couple more times. “you really love me?”
jungkook clamps his lips shut, and nods.
seokjin slumps back against his chair. was this really happening? “fuck, jungkook-ah, i love you too. i just...never knew.”
jungkook rolls his eyes, and his blush is starting to fade, now. “was last year’s muster not a good enough hint?”
seokjin furrows his eyebrows. “last year’s muster?”
“you know,” jungkook says, a shy look crossing his face. “during love maze.”
their set for love maze was a bunch of mirrors that somewhat made their faces look extremely funny - not seokjin though, he never slipped.
as his verse comes on, he sings, turning to jungkook. the younger lifts up a hand, with the brightest smile on his face, and seokjin places his hand flat against jungkook’s swaying a little as he sings, “take my hand, don’t let go.”
then, as he continues, jungkook places a hand over his heart, still smiling the brightest smile seokjin has ever seen, and sways to the song.
seokjin was in love with jungkook’s smile. he was in love with jungkook.
seokjin’s cheeks warm as he remembers the moment. again, it was another one of those times their fans started bringing up the ‘jin-hyung smile’ comment.
“oh,” he says stupidly. “i didn’t...realise.”
jungkook raises his eyebrows. “and the year before that?”
that muster, seokjin remembers very well. they were wearing their ridiculous costumes - seokjin a cake, jungkook a chef - when jungkook kissed him on the cheek.
seokjin had to try very hard to not squeal.
“ah,” seokjin gets out, licking his lips. he doesn’t fail to see the way jungkook’s eyes fall to his lips. “so that was because…” he pauses. “because you love me.” jungkook nods.
seokjin feels like he’s living his best dream.
“can i kiss you, hyung?” jungkook asks, ever so softly. yeah, he was definitely living his best dream.
seokjin’s heart stutters. “sure, jungkook-ah.”
jungkook smiles prettily, leans forward, and locks their lips together. he tastes like honey. seokjin wraps his arounds around jungkook’s waist, pulling him closer, revelling in the moment.
after a while, jungkook leans back with a pretty smile on his face.
“that smile will be the death of me,” seokjin mutters, and leans in for another kiss.
his song could wait.
