"Cats are great aren't they?" Naib offhandedly commented in which made Norton glance at Naib from the kitchen.
Cats? Does Naib want cats? "Do you want a cat? We can adopt one if you want."
"Huh?"
"Victor should know where we can adopt one. I'll give him a call later-"
"No! That's... I don't really want a cat right now because it feels like you'd pay more attention to the cat than me."
Norton chortled at the explanation he just heard. Ah. How cute. "Believe me when I say that that should be my line."
"Huh? I just..."
"Hm?"
"It's..." He thought of Norton with cat ears and tail. He immediately covered his face. "Nevermind. I didn't say anything."
Norton's interest became more intense as he continued cooking for their lunch. What could his dearest Naib be thinking about, hm? Naib just continued scrolling through his phone and Norton set the table up and started putting the food down for them.
"Do you like cats, Naib?"
"No? Well, I mean, I have nothing against cats I just prefer dogs more."
"We can adopt a dog."
"No thank you, I already have a giant dog with me."
Norton pondered on Naib's reply and initially, he didn't really care that much. Not until he found out what it implied and he whipped his head towards Naib who was stifling his laughter.
"Excuse me!?"
"Took you long enough to realize-" Naib immediately ran behind the sofa, putting something in front of Norton and him. He smugly smiled at the comment he just made and Norton would have let it go if it weren't for the brunet's smug smile.
"That's not very nice of you, Naib." He started before he started chasing Naib around the apartment.
"What's not very nice of me?"
"Calling me a dog."
"But I like dogs?"
"..." Hearing this, Norton froze. He blinked at Naib before just resigning to the fact that Naib just called him a dog. As long as Naib likes him then he was fine.
Naib stopped and slowly walked towards Norton. He was confused with the sudden stop but then he also didn't want to run around his apartment.
"As long as you like me then I'm fine." Norton paused, "I don't really mind what you call me as long as I can be with you. I love you."
Naib froze. He owlishly looked at Norton and then immediately covered his face which was getting hotter and hotter by each second. He crouched and covered his face with his arms.
A surprise attack. That was what it was. Norton rarely said that to him. It didn't matter to Naib whether he said it or not since he could see how much Norton loved him and that's was enough. He couldn't ask for more but on rare occasions that Norton ever said those words Naib's brain would combust on the spot. He would be so elated he won't be able to stop smiling for a few hours. He would sometimes giggle here and there much to Norton's amusement. Norton sure found it cute but it wasn't his style to verbalize everything. He preferred to show it via actions.
Norton was looking at Naib with a smile. Naib would always attempt to answer those words and Norton would wait.
"I-I... L-love you too..." He managed to squeak out before Norton walked towards him and crouched in front of him.
"Naib."
"What?" He answered, face still covered.
"Look at me."
"No."
"Why not?"
'It's embarrassing."
"I've seen more embarrassing sides of you before."
"You-" Naib immediately looked up ready to throw some complaints but his those died down the moment he saw Norton gently smiling at him.
He could only blink at the sight. It was so rare for him to see Norton gently smiling at him that he didn't know how to react. And it wasn't like Norton never smiled at him like this. Norton almost always did for some reason Naib usually misses the sight either from sleeping, looking somewhere else, or just covering his face like what happened just now. He immediately pushed Norton's face away with his hand. His face still red from the words of affection and the smile. This was really bad for his heart. He didn't know that he could feel this happy. At this point Norton simply just moved Naib’s hand away and splayed it, intertwining their fingers together. Naib just looked at their linked hands, giddy but embarrassed and confused. Norton chuckled at the sight as he gently cupped Naib’s cheek with his free hand and leaned in for a kiss. Then another and then another. Naib’s breath hitched but soon melted into the kiss. They spent several minutes on the floor kissing lovingly at each other until Naib hugged Norton and rested his head on the other’s chest.
“Let’s eat, shall we?” Norton hugged the brunet back.
“Later.”
“Do you want to stay like this on the floor?”
Naib stayed silent before he stood up and wordlessly carried Norton to the sofa and unceremoniously dropped the bigger man on the couch. Norton yelped three times. The first one was from being princess carried, the second one was from being dropped and the last one was when Naib dived into his body, using him as some kind of pillow.
“Let’s stay like this for a while.” Naib said as he pressed his face on Norton’s chest, inhaling his scent. Norton usually smelled a bit like dirt, coffee, and Vanilla but now since he just finished cooking a small savory scent was on him. A small savory scent that was, for some reason, really strong on Norton’s neck. Without thinking that much, he bit into the fleshy part of Norton’s neck much to the surprise of the taller man.
He hissed when Naib’s teeth sunk into his flesh. Naib heard this and immediately sat up, looking at Norton and the bite mark that he just placed. He blinked and blinked and when he realized what he had just done he immediately detached himself from Norton much to the other’s disappointment. Naib went to one of the shelves and rushed back to Norton. “Oh my god. I’m so sorry. Stay still, let me disinfect it.”
Norton moved to a more comfortable position as Naib started treating him.
“I don’t really mind if you don’t treat it.”
“I do.”
“I see.”
“...”
“Don’t you think you are the one that’s more like a dog, detective Naib?”
“...I guess so.”
“But then you’re a cute dog.”
Naib accidentally spilled too much disinfectant on the cotton that he was holding. His face becoming an alarming shade of red. He didn’t even register the dog part of the comment, only the cute. Noticing that his lover’s face has become red again, Norton smirked and led Naib’s hand that was holding the disinfectant to the bitten area of his neck. “Here you go, detective Naib.”
Naib could only sputter as he gently patched Norton up.
When Naib finished, he was about to put the first aid kit back when Norton pulled him to the sofa. This time, it was Naib’s turn to yelp.
“Detective Naib.”
“Yes?”
“Look at me.”
And Naib did only to swallow loudly when he saw Norton proudly showing the bite mark to him.
“Don’t you want to make more of these marks now?” A smirk graced Norton's smug face.
