Work Text:
It’s one of those days…
Hoseok feels like his whole body has been stretched and pulled too tightly, like his smile has been glued to his face for too long. Muscles sore and a light headache slowly forming to top it all off.
Just one of those days.
A long sigh leaves his body as he walks up the few stairs to their shared apartment, each step seeming like a mountain with how heavy his feet felt. He opens the door to their house after punching in the code and takes a deep breath, the smell of their home filling his lungs and washing some of the tension away. He can hear the faint sound of music coming from what he guesses is Jin’s room, he has a vague memory of Jin, Tae and Jungkook’s schedule being empty in the afternoon, so they must have returned home a long time ago. Each member had quite different schedules lately and he had barely seen any of them for more than a couple minutes, either in the agency’s hallways or late at night when they headed to bed, with barely any energy to acknowledge each other.
Hoseok had spent all morning in the practice room and after that had filmed multiple videos that would most likely be released a year later for who knows what purpose. Usually these went smoothly, learning the scripts and filming with no problem but today it all went a little slower than usual; the smiles felt a bit too forced and his brain felt too packed to concentrate on delivering the lines properly, he hadn’t been 100% satisfied with the results while monitoring, but today was one of those days when he knew he deserved to cut himself some slack.
He takes his time taking his shoes off, there was something calming about focusing on a task his brain would know how to do even while unconscious, but as soon as he turns to place them in the shoe rack another big sigh leaves his body at the sight of the chaotic mess. Shoes thrown thoughtlessly all over the place, some not even on the same shelves as their pair, making all sorts of alarms go off in Hoseok’s tired brain. A small groan leaves his body as he curls his body and starts organizing and arranging them in a way that will please his brain. He finds it somehow relieves some of the stress accumulated in him and it makes him chuckle. He places his hands on his knees and pushes himself up just as a head pops up from around the corner, big round eyes staring at him questioningly.
‘Hyung!’ their youngest states, as he often does.
And Hoseok smiles, or at least he tries to but he can feel that it doesn’t come out exactly right by the look Jungkook gives him, a pout quickly forming in his face.
‘Hey Jungkook-ah, what are you doing out here?’ Hoseok asks, wanting to lead the conversation away from him, it’s not like there is anything going on with him, nothing to talk about, he is just… Tired.
‘I was just on my way back to my room, have you had dinner already?’ Jungkook asks and Hoseok feels like his big worried eyes make him want to either run and hide in his room or wrap himself up in a blanket named JK.
He nods, mentioning the dinner he had delivered to the agency for himself and some of the staff as he finally walks inside the living room, Jungkook following along with him telling him about the delicious ramyeon he had just cooked for himself, ‘don’t you have a photoshoot tomorrow morning? You’ll regret that ramyeon when you see your puffy face’ Hoseok manages to say in a teasing tone, which makes a smile appear on Jungkook's face.
He’s about to announce his departure, dreams of his bed taking over his mind since he got out of it that same morning, when he feels Jungkook’s hand pulling on his shirt slightly, Hoseok turns to him questioningly, but the pout is back on the younger’s face and he feels it tugging on his heart.
‘Hyung.’ he says again.
Hoseok thinks that he could write a book about the way Jungkook has weaponized that single word to both get anything he wants, and to mean an infinite amount of things without having to explicitly say anything. They always know what he means though, that’s the magic of it. And right now it makes Hoseok sigh and pout right back at him, because he is not good with words but he knows his members can hear most of his unsaid thoughts.
He lets Jungkook tug him back towards his room, he doesn’t need to say anything as he tangles their fingers together, the warmth coming out of the younger’s body already melting away some of his stress. He doesn’t think there are any differences in the ways he loves each of his members, but there is a difference in how his body reacts to each of them. Something in the way he had always tried to be a hyung who made Jungkook feel safe and comfortable, had transformed slowly as they both grew up. The way the younger showed his vulnerability to Hoseok had unknowingly made him just as vulnerable with the younger, in a way he didn’t let himself be with the others. He didn’t ever really question it, it just happened naturally, and he was grateful for it more often than not.
Jungkook opens the door to his room and tugs Hoseok towards his big bed. Hoseok was grateful most of the time the younger’s room was as clean and tidy as his own (at least as his side of the room, but Jimin was slowly getting better with how Hoseok had learnt to use his roommate’s praise kink to his own benefit), the soft and clean feeling of the sheets made Hoseok automatically close his eyes and let out a long and satisfied breath. Jungkook pushes himself back against the headboard, placing his pillow behind his back and motioning for the older to join him.
Hoseok crawls over to him, and lets himself fall over the younger’s lap. He feels that familiar tingling feeling under his skin spreading through his body and he can’t help the small smile tugging on his lips. He looks up to meet Jungkook’s eyes and the softness in them makes him feel fuzzy, a fleeting thought crosses his mind wondering if this should feel embarrassing maybe or at least not as right as it feels, but it goes away just as fleetingly.
He lets out a long groan as he feels Jungkook run his fingers through his hair, soft and careful, as if this was a task that required maximum concentration. Goosebumps break out over his skin and he feels as if his stress is being slowly brushed off his body through the younger’s fingers. He cracks one eye open and the smile Jungkook flashes him is so comforting he feels a little like he wants to cry, but in a good way, always in a good way.
And this is familiar, the part where Hoseok lets out long exaggerated groans that make Jungkook giggle breathlessly. Hoseok is quite sure he’s not the only one who gets comfort from this little routine they have developed over the years, and the way Jungkook so eagerly works his fingers through his hair makes it seem like he enjoys it just as much. As usual, it doesn’t take long for Hoseok to feel all the exhaustion of the day take over his body, brain already wanting to sign off, content and warm in the younger’s lap.
Jungkook starts singing something that sounds a little sad, but his honey like voice could make even the saddest of tunes sound comforting to anyone who listens. He thinks his half asleep brain might have tried to sing along, by the way the other’s voice breaks into giggles for a moment before he resumes his singing. And just before he completely shuts down, all his worries of the day practically forgotten, seeming small and insignificant, he wraps his arms around the younger’s waist and squeezes tightly.
‘You’re welcome, hyung..’
Hoseok is sure he has a silly smile on his face as he dozes off.
