Work Text:
Oda was told by a lot of people that he was not a complicated man. He knew what he wanted and wouldn’t hold back on what he didn’t like. This wasn’t limited to people either though the reasons aren’t as simple. So when he decided to confess to a certain someone, those in the agency were floored when the news went around.
Ranpo just laughed while Dazai smiled like the goof that he was.
Fast forward to the present and not much has changed. He was waiting at the entrance to the local festival as the night air was getting cooler. He already met up with some of his coworkers who said hi and went into the location. As he looked at his watch, he heard a soft chuckle.
“I hope you weren’t waiting so long for me.”
Looking up, Oda’s expression softened to the point of almost smiling. “I just got here.” He automatically stated. “You looked well put together.”
Holding back a laugh, Fukuzawa shook his head. “Please don’t struggle on my account, I’ll accept a ‘you look good’ if it’s from you.”
Now really smiling, though faintly, Oda nodded. “Sure. Shall we?”
“Let’s.” Fukuzawa let Oda loop his arm around his as they entered.

“Strawberry or blue Hawaiian?”
“Is blue Hawaiian even a flavor? It sounds cool but it’s just blue, isn’t it?”
“I can see how Dazai-kun is always entertained sometimes.”
Oda looked at the other with furrowed eyebrows but said nothing. It was all in good humor but he felt the urge to pout and that wasn’t him, mostly.
Smiling a bit, Fukuzawa gently gestured the other to the vendor. “Come on, the shaved ice won’t be around forever.”
“….strawberry then.” Oda responded.
“Very well, I’ll take the blue Hawaiian.” Fukuzawa went to pay for the shaved ice as two huge cups were given to Oda after a couple of minutes. Getting his change, he took his cup and put the plastic spoon in it. He then held it out.
Oda blinked, confused. “Yukichi?”
Fukuzawa placed a finger against his lips. “Wait for it.”
More confused, Oda then saw a familiar face coming down the pathway. He was then surprised when, upon seeing Ranpo (and someone who was terribly shy, he recall the name Poe), only quick hellos and goodbyes were exchanged and Fukuzawa was empty handed. He needed a second. “Did that just happen?”
“Yes.” Fukuzawa didn’t even bat an eye. “I told Ranpo ahead of time that I’ll be paying for the shaved ice as a reward but didn’t tell him when. He probably was snooping for the right time.” He joked at the end.
Letting out a sigh through his nose, Oda grew fonder of the man. “Didn’t know you had a sense of humor.” He lightly teased.
Fukuzawa almost laughed. “I tend to relax around those close to me from time to time. Speaking of,” He pointed to the shaved ice. “How about we share that as we continue walking?”
Oda snorted. “Sure.”

They ended up on a slight hill, a bit from the festival with food and some toys. Oda won toys for Fukuzawa and Fukuzawa won some goldfish for Oda’s kids. They pretended they were the envy of the festival with how good they were at the games just to have a good laugh.
As they were winding down a bit, Oda wordlessly placed his head on Fukuzawa’s shoulder.
Fukuzawa didn’t say a word either as he wrapped his arm around the other’s waist and pulled him close. He moved his head and placed a kiss on the other’s forehead.
Oda smiled faintly but said nothing. He was a simple man, knew what he wanted and didn’t like and honestly, having someone who was on the same wavelength was peaceful and amazing, to say the least.
The fireworks exploded with color in the night sky as they shared a kiss.
