Work Text:
It was an ordinary day, but something felt different. Like he was anticipating something, but Choromatsu wasn’t sure what. Maybe today was the day he’d finally get a job!
He went down the hall from his room to the dining room, passing by his mom making breakfast in the kitchen. He sat at the table and ate up what he was served, telling her his plans for the day.
She wished him luck, and he went on his way.
He headed to Hello Work, and waited his turn. He sat at the desk, handed the paperwork to the man, and waited for him to read it.
Ten minutes later, he was dismissed and let down.
Nothing.
His mood was sour and he couldn’t bring himself to go home yet just to disappoint his mother with yet another failure.
So he went to a bar.
He ordered a beer and sipped it slowly. Why had he started the day with such a good feeling if his day was just going to go wrong?
The more he thought about how little he had going for him, the faster he drank.
Halfway through his second beer, he decided he was entirely too sober, quickly downed the rest, and ordered a third.
“Might wanna slow down, there! Not good to drink that much when you’re alone.”
He looked up. A man around his age was taking a seat on the stool beside him, waving to the bartender.
“I’ll have what he’s having,” he said with a grin. He was strangely charismatic.
And cute.
And almost… familiar.
The man’s drink was placed in front of him, and he took a sip.
“There, now you’re not alone!” He rubbed under his nose with his index finger.
“I guess,” Choromatsu chuckled. “Thanks.”
“No problem! I’m Osomatsu, nice to meet ya!”
Choromatsu introduced himself, and the two began a conversation.
About half an hour in, Osomatsu asked, “So, I’m here cuz I’m bored, but why are you here, at 11AM, in a suit? Shouldn’t you be at work?”
Choromatsu’s mood plummeted again. “What job?” He grumbled. “Just came from Hello Work. Got nothing.”
“Ah, that’s no big deal! Don’t worry so much!”
Already tipsy enough to not care about boundaries, he allowed Osomatsu to sling an arm over his shoulder, smiling at him.
Then it happened.
A flood of memories came pouring into his mind.
How many times had they been like this? Sitting side-by-side, Osomatsu’s arm around Choromatsu’s shoulder, a grin on his face, answered by Choromatsu‘s small smile.
Choromatsu, a goddess in a flowing white robe. Osomatsu, a devil, in a suit, with horns and a tail.
Choromatsu, a sheep hybrid, Osomatsu, a red panda hybrid.
A Daitengu and a Shuten Doji.
An advisor and a king.
A nerd and a slacker.
Magical girls.
Idols.
More and more memories flooded in.
They looked at each other, shocked.
Osomatsu smirked. “Told you I’d always find you. You worry too much, Cherrymatsu!”
Choromatsu could only smile.
It was an extraordinary day.
