Chapter Text
Osomatsu was glaring across the table, not that the recipient of said glare would notice. No, he was too busy admiring his eyes, now that they’d shifted from that dull brownish-gray to an admittedly stunning shade of blue.
Karamatsu was his best friend, so of course he was happy the guy finally found his soulmate, but since then, Karamatsu’s time seemed to be spent either with his soulmate, or staring at his own eyes. It was getting annoying. It had been almost a month, for fuck’s sake!
“Ne, Karamatsu,” he said, pulling the other’s attention away from himself. “Wanna go get drinks or something? I’m bored.”
Karamatsu smiled and nodded, “But of course, Osomatsu! Perhaps you shall be as lucky as me on this day, meet your own beloved, in a way as magical as mine was!”
“You met in an alley.”
“...Yes! In such an unlikely spot! How romantic to have met in such an unheard of-”
“He was about to punch you in the face. Moron.”
Karamatsu deflated, but still smiled.
“Ugh. Sorry. But hey, less soulmate talk, more to-the-bar walk!” He said loudly, standing from the table and heading to Karamatsu’s front door. The other followed closely behind, talking some nonsense about how their bonds as comrades, brothers even, shall surely be strengthened blah blah etc.
The bar they picked was a sports one. Like, super sporty. No one would go there unless they were the type to paint their faces in their favoured team’s colours and pay more attention to the games than anything around them, including the hot bartenders, who were why Osomatsu chose this bar. The men and women serving drinks were all hells of attractive.
Karamatsu seemed to have no interest in them. Of course now, he only had eyes for his soulmate. Osomatsu didn’t have that restriction.
They drank a few beers, while Osomatsu ogled the bartender and Karamatsu texted his ‘beloved’, but between that, they had a nice conversation. Then the game started.
Baseball fans had been flooding the bar over the past half hour, finding the best seats to watch the game from, some of them even standing.
The TV’s had all been turned up to being obnoxiously loud, at least to Osomatsu. He didn’t really care about baseball, but decided to watch since his conversation partner was now engrossed in texting.
Some time had passed, when Karamatsu sprang up.
“May we cut this short, my friend? My darling would like to meet me.”
Not even surprised, Osomatsu waved a hand. “Yeah, that’s fine. Say hi for me.”
“I shall!”
And with that, he was off.
Ordering another beer, Osomatsu turned his attention back to the game, but someone in a yellow… was that a real baseball uniform? blocked his view. He switched his attention to another screen instead.
He was just about to drink when cheers filled the bar.
“HOMERUN!” The man in the uniform yelled, drawing Osomatsu’s attention. He began high fiving everyone around him, then turned to Osomatsu.
Their eyes met, and they stared.
Slowly and quickly, all at once, he watched in fascination as the muddy gray eyes locked with his began to swirl, the colour changing to a radiant yellow.
They were beautiful.
His mouth opened before he could stop it.
“Are you an angel?”
In place of an answer, the man said, “Are you a devil?”
“What?”
“Your eyes. They’re red. But they’re so pretty. I don’t wanna look away. Are you a devil?”
Osomatsu snorted. “My eyes are the same boring gray as…” he trailed off. “Yours just turned yellow. Mine are red? Are you..?”
The bartender laughed. “Not everyday you get to watch that happen. Congrats! You’re soulmates. You two get free drinks tonight!”
Osomatsu was thrilled by the idea of free drinks, but even moreso by the rest of what he said.
Soulmates.
The two began laughing as well.
Now Osomatsu understood Karamatsu’s behaviour as of late a little better.
He never wanted to look away.
