Work Text:

Taehyung hummed to himself as he skipped down the path, one that he and Jungkook had terraformed together, enjoying the nice, windy breeze. He didn’t have an exact destination, he just wanted to enjoy a nice, simple walk in the morning before he went around the island to greet his friends.

He then hears his NookPhone go off for a NookMile achievement that he completed. He stops in his path and pulls out his phone, his little paws tapping on the screen to see what he completed.

As he gets absorbed into looking at the other achievements that he has almost completed, he failed to notice the grass swishing behind him as Jimin, a chick villager, sneaks up behind him, net ready in hand.

He raises the net high before swinging down, net making a mixture between a ‘whomp’ and a ‘bonk’ sound as it lands on Taehyung’s head. Jimin starts to loudly giggle as Taehyung turns around, taking the net with him. He growls as Jimin falls to the ground, still laughing.

Taehyung takes off the net and examines it, but then starts laughing along with Jimin. He tucks his phone away as he holds the net and starts to chase Jimin with the net.

“Ah! Good morning Yoongi. Came to fish with your favorite hyung?” Jin, a hamster villager, greets the cat villager as he strolls up to the shore. He pulls out his fishing rod as he gives a simple hum, before tossing the tip into the ocean. Jin follows suit, tossing his at a safe distance from Yoongi’s, as to not steal any fish.

The two fall into a comfortable silence before Jin makes a conversation about seeing ‘the kids’ playing with nets this morning. “They were just whacking each other with nets! Is that what the kids are into these days? What if they hurt themselves?” Jin asks, concerned at the memory from this morning.

Yoongi gives a small amused smile as he squints at the ocean, hoping to spot any shadows of fishes. “They’ll be fine. At least they aren’t like, trying to catapult across rivers like last time.” Jin nods, seemingly pleased with the answer.

That’s when Yoongi’s rod jerks closer to the ocean, and the two villagers gasp in surprise. Yoongi reels back, fighting against the fish. Jin watches with amazement as Yoongi pulls the fish out of the water over to him.

Except the fish almost smacks Jin in the face when Yoongi reels it back. The two stare at the fish in amazement. “How...how did you pull an oarfish on the first try? You know that Namjoon and I have been trying to get that fish for days right?!” Jin gasps. Yoongi tucks the fish away in his pocket (don’t ask how they do that, they don’t know either) and smirks at Jin. Jin huffs at him as he starts to walk towards the museum.

Jungkook, a bunny villager, pulls the weight up and then down, taking deep breathes while doing so. This was his morning routine. He spends an hour or two at the courtyard exercising to himself as he watches his fellow villagers play or do whatever they do.

He admits to himself that he kinda slacked off when he saw Taehyung chase Jimin around with a net, proceeding to pull his net out and chase after the two. In his mind, it was a running exercise.

Jungkook shakes away the amused memories as he focuses on the weight in his paw. He then hears skipping on the concrete next to him and is surprised to see Hoseok, a squirrel villager, walk towards him.

“Good morning Kookie!” he calls out, grinning wide. Jungkook gives a shy wave with his free paw. He’s the newest villager in this island, so he’s still shy to the older villagers. He gets along just fine with the two younger ones though.

“I was searching in the trees around my house for possible coins when I saw this very shiny acorn! And since I haven’t given you a welcome gift yet, I figured this could do!” Hoseok exclaimed as he pulls out an acorn, which was very shiny indeed, and presents it to Jungkook.

He almost drops his weight in surprise. Sure, the other villagers did give him welcoming gifts, but he wasn’t expecting Hoseok a gift too. Giving a shy smile, he puts his weight down and accepts the gift, amazed at how the sun reflects at the acorn.

“Wait, this isn’t a real acorn,” he mutters out loud. Hoseok nods, smiling wide. “It’s a container! At first, it fell out of the tree as a leaf, so when I found out it was actually an acorn container, I thought it was so cute!” Hoseok explained. Jungkook looked at his shining eyes and felt a little guilty. “Wouldn’t you want this though?”

Hoseok’s smile falls for a second before smiling again, coming close to give the bunny a hug. “You’re so thoughtful! No, it’s okay. I always see you carrying around a camera around, so I figured you would want a container for your film!”

Jungkook smiles down at the container. Indeed, he could easily fit some of his extra film in here. He tucks the container safely in his pocket and smiles at Hoseok, inching closer to give Hoseok a hug, who happily hugs him back.

Namjoon exits his house and for a second, grimaces at the bright sun above him before walking to his peach tree and shaking the tree, dropping a peach in his paws. He drops it, however, and it lends to the floor. Thankfully though, it doesn’t get messed up.

He picks up the peach as he sits under the shade of the tree, munching on it with one paw while reading a book in the other. For 30 minutes or so, he gets absorbed into the story, while the peach in his hand has gone into his stomach.

In the distance, you can hear the playful screams of some of the youngest playing with each other, the gasps of the two oldest as they fish, and the excited squeal of a squirrel villager as he finds the perfect gift. Namjoon looks up from his book and into the distance, where he can somewhat see all that is happening.

He smiles to himself at the peaceful atmosphere of it all. A butterfly comes closer and lands onto the edge of his book and he gently reaches a paw towards the butterfly. It accepts and comes closer as Namjoon gently puts the butterfly into a container.

Namjoon then closes his book and stands up, stretching his aching joints as he walks away from under the shade of his peach tree to the aquarium where he sees Yoongi. He waves over to him, and he waves back.

“Heading to the museum too?” Namjoon greets the cat, who nods. “I caught an oarfish,” he simply says, which Namjoon’s jaw drops. “Wait, but Jin and I-” “Have been searching for one for days, yes I know.”

Namjoon could only shake his head in amusement as the two head into the entrance of the museum and present their newest catchings to the owner, and then laughs when the owner shrieks at the butterfly.

The seven villagers come together at the entrance of the museum, excited chatters as they head to the aquarium. Jungkook pulls out his camera, with the acorn container strapped around his neck, and snaps a few pictures of the fish swimming peacefully. He also takes a few pictures of his friends, liking the cool, blue lighting that the aquarium brings.

Namjoon spouts out some facts over to Hoseok and Jimin when they questioned the group of fishes swirling together. Yoongi and Taehyung go ahead of everyone as their ears twitch at the lights changing as they walk. Jin goes over to Jungkook to examine some of the photos that he had taken.

Eventually, the group adventures over to the bug part of the museum, where Jimin giggles when a butterfly lands on top of his head. Jin and Hoseok scream at the centipedes, while Namjoon examines the praying mantis. Taehyung becomes Jungkook’s model with the bugs.

Lastly, they head over to the art, where Taehyung geeks out over facts about each painting, which the others find fascinating. Yoongi then tells a story about how Hoseok and Jin almost got fooled by the fox that sometimes stops by their island to sell fake paintings, making the rest of the group laugh.

The group is still chattering and laughing to themselves as they exit the museum. Jungkook runs ahead and turns around, catching a memory of the six others laughing and smiling. Then, Yoongi reaches over and turns the camera over, making sure that Jungkook is included in the next photo. All seven of the villagers smile wide as they take the next photo, a memory that they are sure to cherish forever.
