Chapter Text
Takami Keigo, known as The Wing Hero: Hawks, to the public, is stopping by to check on his intern after a difficult battle. After going through the necessary loops to get into the U.A. campus, he heads to Heights Alliance. He heads in, he was already told where to go to get to Tokoyami's dorm, so he was heading there.
As he was strolling down the hall, he heard the start of a melody. He had never heard such a melody before, and it was rather pretty. He walked closer to the sound, close enough to tell the voice singing was male, but not yet close enough to decipher the lyrics to the tune. So he walked closer.
"Heroes hold, Heroes stay
Heroes hurt, do they do it for the pay?
I can't catch up, are they going too fast?
What can I do, how do I make it last?"
"What a melancholy song. ' Are they going too fast?' If anything heroes aren't going fast enough to save everyone. But, to be fair, I'm the fastest and I still can't save everyone."
Keigo waits outside of the door, and wonders who would be singing such a song.
"I continue on, I stand up high
I work to be better, I look to the sky.
I wonder, will it ever be enough?
I work so hard, Is it too tough?
I hold on tight, am I too rough?"
" No...No! That's three rhyming words in a row, it doesn't convey the hope and desperation right! "
Keigo heard the voice mumble. "Should I knock? Make my presence known?"
But before he could decide whether or not to knock, the voice started again.
"The heroes need a hero.
I stand up, I try agin.
I stand up, and I fight for them.
The heroes need a hero
My heroes."
"Everyone needs someone, that's a fair assessment. Must admit, a hero to heroes is a pretty big aspiration"
"I fall down, I trip.
I climb up, I work,
I dive down, I take the plunge.
I can't lounge around,
I can't afford to get caught behind,"
Keigo is fascinated with this singer, "Why do they feel so far behind? They are very clearly quite determined."
The singer starts again.
"So I,
Stand up, try again.
Fall down, trip. Climb up, work. Dive down, take the plunge.
stand up, fight for them.
The heroes need a hero,
My heroes."
Keigo decides it's time to make himself known to the singer. He knocks on the door, stating, "Hey! Your little tune sounded pretty good! Mind if I ask who you are?"
" Ah? My-my name? It's Midoriya, Midoriya Izuku. I didn't realize you were there! If I had, I wouldn't have sung... "
"Midoriya hmnn? Well kiddo, you sounded pretty good. I was on my way to Tokoyami's room. But I was distracted, I don't remember which way to go anymore."
" Ahhh, I, I could show you the way if you would like? "
"Thanks."
Midoriya opened the door, only to see the crimson wings of Hawks.
"Hawks?! Wow, that's so cool! Um, how many feathers are you able to send out in total? Do you have to concentrate on each feather separately? In hero fights and rescues, I've seen you lift entire people with a single feather, how much weight can each one hold?! Wow. How long does it take to regrow feathers that have been lost?! You are such a good hero, aahhh this is so cool!"
" Kid, you're mumbling. I may be the fastest hero, but not even I could follow all of that. "
"O-oh. Sorry, I have a tendency to mumble, no one can follow it. But, um, if you follow me, Tokoyami's room is right this way. "
Midoriya starts down the hall, looking back after a few steps to make sure Keigo is following him.
"Y'know, you're song wasn't half bad. Sounded pretty good, and all that stuff about heroes? A heroes' hero at that, that's some confidence"
Midoriya starts and responds with, "It isn't a matter of confidence, Heroes have helped so many people. But, who is there to help the heroes? There's other heroes of course! But, I've been helped with reaching my dream to be a hero. I want to prove myself worthy of all the help I've recieved! I want to be a hero that gives hope."
"Ah, similar to my dream of the day heroes can laze around, and don't have to fight villains so often. It's good kid."
Midoriya beams. With a skip in his step, he states, "let's both do our best! I hope we can both achieve our dreams Hawks-san!"
Keigo lets out a little huff, "Just Hawks, drop the san, too formal."
Midoriya walks a bit more, stops, and turns toward Keigo. "Here we are!"
Keigo stops. "It's almost like he's the one with the bird based quirk. With the way he chirps. " He thinks.
"Thank you songbird. Maybe next time you plan to sing, let me know."
Midoriya's eyes widen, "song-songbird? Uh. It I were to sing again I'd have no way to let you know..."
Keigo smirks. "Your new nickname, It's what phones are for songbird."
" But that would, that would require your number Hawks? " Midoriya stated in a way that sounded like a question.
Keigo flaps his wings a bit. "Yes it would, which is why I need your phone."
There phone is handed over, "ah, thank you! I'll make sure to let you know next time I sing!"
" Yeah, you make sure you do."
Keigo knocked on the door to Tokoyami's room, and turned, stuffing Midoriya 's hair as the door opens.
As Midoriya starts to walk away, he heads Keigo call out, "See you later little songbird!" He turns bright red and scurried back to his room.
