Future Nostalgia

Summary:

100 years ago, a brutal battle between the first One For All and All For One took place. You had thought that it would be over for good, but after a misfire of your quirk sends you 100 years into the future, you soon realize that All For One is still at large - and now it's up to you and your new friends to put a stop to him for good. With the help of a nerdy curly haired boy, a hot-headed blond, and the cold and mysterious prodigy, will you be able to adjust to this new future? Or will you wind up reliving the past?

Chapter 1: Upside Down

Chapter Text

Visions flashed across your mind, but not your own.  Visions of people you had never met.  A nervous boy with curly green hair.  A birdlike creature with it's brain visible.  A blue-haired man with hands all over him.  Anxiety.  Fear.  Terror.  Pain.  Pain.

"--[Y/n]-chan!"

You were quiet literally ripped out of your stupor as your friend forcibly yanked you to your feet, causing you to come back in focus.  You weren't in a crumpled city, the moon hanging low.  Disaster wasn't around you - at least, not in the way you had dreamed.

But was it really a dream?

Shaking your head, you gave the man a rueful smile, gently taking your arm out of his grasp.  "I'm good...  One For All."  That was the name he went by.  Nobody knew his real name, not anymore, just his hero name and that his brother was the worst villain this world had possibly ever seen.

One For All shook his head, ruffling your hair.  "Another one of your visions?"

You nodded, and the man gave you a more gentle smile, his brown eyes gentle in regarding you.  "[Y/n]-chan," he started.  "You're strong.  I know these visions of the future and alternate realities scare you, but we will take down All For One.  You have to believe that tonight's going to be the night when it ends."

"And if it isn't?"

Your question hung in the air thickly, and he sighed.  "I have somebody on hand to transfer my power to, don't worry."

You nodded, and nothing more was said.  What else could be said?  Everybody in the small base was on edge, quirk users hustling about as battle plans and last goodbyes were said.  For many, this might be their last battle.  In a society unused to these new superpowers called "quirks" brewed a deadly battle between brothers, dragging those closest to them into it.  It was the purest battle of good vs. evil, of right vs. wrong, with your team fighting to quite possibly save the world.

You just hoped your team was the winning one.  As for as you could tell, the visions you saw were of the way future, so at the very least the world wasn't going to be destroyed any time soon.

Shaking your head, you went to change into your fighting outfit.  You had no more time to ponder.

You had to get ready.

Around you, people screamed, shouts and gunfire filling the night air.  Fires blazed, buildings crumpled, and you were currently trying to get one of your teammates to safety, her arm wrapped loosely around your neck.

"It'd be...  real nice if those pompous bastards at the hero council helped out here," your teammate huffed, purple eyes lidded as she struggled to stay awake.  You chuckled, trying to keep the mood light.

"They just formed.  I doubt they have any clue as to how to act to this chaos," you reasoned, finally finding a safe area to set your teammate down.  Rubble was all around you, but the place looked long deserted as the fight had moved elsewhere, bodies of heroes and villains alike littering the ground.  "Stay here until I send a healer your way."

With that, you were gone, [e/c] eyes sharp and searching for your mentor amidst the death and chaos.  Weaving in and out of people, stopping projectiles with your quirk, and avoiding the bad guys was taking a toll on your energy, but you persisted, not even pausing when a large slab of concrete came your way.  In an instant you had frozen it time, left it hovering there before moving out of the way and letting it go, the concrete flying into the wall to your side.

You paid it not attention, continuing onward.

Almost there, you were in the middle of the biggest battle, and quickly dodged behind a half-there pillar.  Just in time too, as another vision took over your mind, blinding you shortly.

It was definitely way farther in the future, far enough where you were sure you'd be long gone.  Neon lights lit up buildings in the distance, the air somewhat dirtier than you could imagine.  Not in front of you, though.  In front of you was a battle, a duel between formidable foes.  One was a man injured beyond repair, a breathing mask attached to his face and his arm distorted as he fought what looked to be a struggling hero, decked out in the colors of the American flag.

"All Might...!"

You hadn't realized that a kid stood next to you in the vision, one that you had seen before but this time in some shitty disguise as he muttered out what you thought was the hero's name.

All Might...  All Might...  and...  All For One?

With a gasp, you came back into reality, an icy cold feeling washing over you just as a large explosion rang out.  You don't know why, but this explosion felt much more ominous than the previous ones and it spurred you into action as you dashed out from behind your hiding spot.

I have to find One For All!

Panic settled over you, and you shoved your comrades out of the way, searching, searching, searching.  He was no where to be found.

You forced the cry that was rising in your throat down, searching frantically for your mentor among the chaos that reigned supreme.  Finally, finally, you found him, although it took you a moment to recognize him.

Lying on the ground in a crumpled heap, skin searing and burning, was the man you had looked up to and you cried out, rushing to his side in an instant.

"One For All...!"

His eyes fluttered open weakly before focusing in on you, a wavering smile appearing on his face.

"[Y/n]....chan...."

You shushed him, hands fluttering about.  You had done this once on accident, but was certain you could manipulate time again to heal his wounds as you pressed down on the gaping hole in his stomach.

"Come on, come on, come on!"

It didn't work, the blood still seeping everywhere and staining your clothes and skin as One For All weakly grasped your wrist.

"Don't..."

"What?!"

He continued to speak, each word a struggle to him.  "I've already transferred....  My quirk...  Now you must get out of here before he finds you and takes you away..."

You cried, your tears staining the soot on your face and leaving tracks down to your chin.  "No...  No, you can't go..."

One For All coughed, blood splattering from his mouth.  "I just wish...  You could have lived normally, [Y/n]-chan...  Gone to school...  Lived.  Truly lived."

Shaking your head, you tried to muster a smile, even more feeble than the man lying, dying on the ground.  "I wouldn't have my life any other way.  You saved me from a terrible fate, and I'm happy to serve under you no matter what."

The vision you saw from before flitted across your mind again, your expression drying up.  "But...  This isn't the end...  All For One...  He survives for decades.  Probably a century.  We don't win."  You let out a chocked sob, dipping your head down so clumps of [h/c] hung in your face.  "We fail."

Another wheeze.  Another spray of blood.

"[Y/n]-chan...  Your quirk..."  You tensed at his bringing up of your ability.  "You can stop him.  You have the knowledge.  You must help the next One For All, you cannot let him...  take it..."

Even with this tragedy, with the death of somebody whom had become a beacon of light, the battle still raged on, and you heard somebody calling your name.  It seemed distant.  Far.  What did any of this matter if your mentor, the man who had watched over and taken care of you, was dead?

Sobbing, you hunched over One For All as he went limp, shaking his body.  "Wake up, please.  Wake up!"

You were vaguely aware of one of your teammates attempting to pull you away, telling you to leave it, but you refused to budge, shoving them away.

"No... No, we can't leave him here, we have to get him help!"

"[Y/n]-san he's dead, and you will be too if we don't get out of here!"

You recognized the voice - while you couldn't remember his name, not now, you knew he was a close friend of One For All's as well.  If you remembered correctly, he had a quirk that could force others to activate their own quirks, even if they were unconscious.  Where was he when you were trying to heal One For All?  Perhaps...  Perhaps he could have used his quirk to force yours to heal!

Before you could lash out on your ally, a new voice joined the fray, scary and formidable and all too familiar.

"Ah, dearest [Y/n].  Thank goodness you were in an easy-to-find place.  You're just too predictable."

You snapped your head up, rage replacing despair at the man whose fault this was.

"This is all your fault!  How could you kill your own brother?  Your own flesh and blood!"  Tears sprang forth, but you paid them no heed.  "He was the only family I had left, and you - you murdered him!  I'll never forgive you!"

All For One chuckled, clearly amused.  "Am I not your family as well, [Y/n]?"

Hell no.  You stood up, and while you knew your quirk was way outmatched, you couldn't help but get into a fighting stance.  All For One smirked, and you felt a blinding, white-hot anger cloud your thoughts.  God, you wanted to decimate him.

Your ally stood up abruptly, trying to yank you away.  "[Y/n]-san, you can't fight him - if he gets your power, One For All's death will be in vain.  You have to run."

He attempted to put a hand on your shoulder, and you yanked away, glaring at him.  "No.  I will avenge him.  I - I have to.  I have to."

You tried to remain strong but your words came out shaky, proof that you were still hurt, and would be for a long time.

I have to end this feud.  I have to kill All For One - for him.

All For Once chuckled, clearly amused as he readied himself.  You had no clue what to expect, no clue as to how many quirks he had accumulated in this battle alone from those whom had fallen, allies and enemies alike.  Did that stop you?  No.

Before you could attempt to freeze All For One in time, you felt something pierce into your side, a sharp pain that had nearly knocked you over.  Slowly, you looked over at your ally, registering the thin black tentacle that tore through your skin.  He had done it in a place that would hopefully not leave damage, but still...!

"I'm sorry," he said ruefully.  "But it's the only way to keep you safe.  Be well, [Y/n]-san."

Your quirk activated on yourself of your own volition, and you fought back against your ally's control.  You didn't have time to take in All For One's face of disbelief and outrage as your own body began to phase out.  Shit...  What was he trying to do?!

Panic welled up inside you.  Your ally was trying to freeze you in place, which of course was impossible, and you were trying to freeze everything but you.  The clash in wills, the clash in commands - it was too much for you or your quirk.  The ground rumbling beneath you, you felt as if somebody was squeezing your head, and you raised your hands up only to see them turning transparent fast.

"Wh...  What is going on?!"

"NO!"

All For One's shout started you, and you allowed your control to slip as you looked over in surprise, your own eyes wide in fear.

What... was happening?!

Before you could comprehend a second more, an intense pain shot through you.  Then, everything went white.

This was not Aizawa Shouta's idea of a good day.  School hadn't even started yet - wasn't supposed to until next week - and yet here he was, spending his day on campus for some obligatory meetings about his upcoming class.  It was boring, just a briefing on who his students would be, what to prepare for, yadda yadda.  This wasn't the teacher's first rodeo, but also considering that he expelled all of last year's class for having zero potential...  Well, perhaps that was why Principal Nezu was so concerned.

Walking out and squinting his eyes in irritation at the sun that mercilessly beat down, he spared a side glance to his companion, he just wouldn't shut up.  The new teacher was excited for his class, to be teaching the younger generation of heroes.  Honestly, the exact opposite of Aizawa himself.

On his other side was another talkative man, agreeing wholeheartedly with the first man and trying to draw Aizawa into the conversation constantly.

"Will you two please just shut--"

Aizawa, having had enough, was just about to admonish them before the air before them changed.  At once, the three teachers tensed, prepared to take on a villain as the space in front of them started to warp and twist as if it was part of some strange, abstract painting.  Then, with a white flash that nearly blinded the three heroes, it snapped back into place as if nothing happened.

Besides, of course, the confused teenager standing in front of them.  Her [e/c] eyes were wide and wild, frenzy and fear mixed together.  Her hair was matted and blackened with soot and dirt, making it impossible to really tell what color it was supposed to be, and her clothes...  Well, they were worse for wear.  Tattered, dirty, and caked with dried mud and blood.

The three heroes didn't react, unsure if what they were seeing was real or not.  The young girl was the first to break the silence, her voice coming out raspy.  It was clear she had been crying, her eyes rimmed a puffy red.

"Who...  Are you?  What happened to All For One?"

The man besides Aizawa - All Might, his colleague - stiffened immediately, but nobody had time to reply as she collapsed, her hand fluttering to her stomach.

Oh.  Oh.  That blood - not all of it could have been hers, but the blood around her stomach as red blossomed, staining her hands?

Yeah, she was injured.

As she cried out in pain, Aizawa was quick to react, using his bandages to catch the girl from falling.

"Mic," Aizawa said, his voice terse.  "Go get Nezu.  Now."

Without further ado, the pro-hero known as Present Mic saluted Aizawa and went off to grab their boss, all three men wondering the same thing:

Who was this girl?
