Glowing crimson eyes peer down at the witch from the headboard. Leaving Gladion uneasy and fearing the small black cat would come descending down on his head at any minute for her own amusement. He certainly wouldn’t put it past Aleia. He might have only known her for the past eighteen hours but, he’d seen enough to know she loved messing with people.
The cat… no the daemon had taken up her perch only moments after they’d entered the hotel room. Leaving Gladion , mostly, to his own devices. Something he was grateful for. The events of the previous night were hitting him hard now that he wasn’t focused on finding a safe place to stay as far away from Aether as possible. He was still trying to process it all. Process that his own mother had tried to kill him.
Tried to sacrifice him against his will for a spell to bring father back… Had almost been successful if he hadn’t accidentally summoned the daemon currently in cat form resting above his head...
He pushes the thoughts into the dark recesses of his mind, where they belonged, before he had another unwanted breakdown. He’d sniveled enough. He needed to rest, they had to get up early the next morning to stock up on supplies and leave town. Aether was still too close and mother was sure to be looking for him.
Sighing softly the young teen tugged the covers up under his chin and tried to get comfortable. Although he knew sleep wouldn’t come easy. The bed, the room, the white noise, everything was so different from home…
A soft ‘mwrp’ from above him heralded the daemon jumping down from her perch. Eyes shooting open Gladion watched her pad across the pillow before coming to lay in the crook of his neck. Her cold, tiny, wet nose resting against his neck as soft fur tickled at his skin and loud purrs vibrated her small frame. Unbidden tears pricking at his eyes, Gladion carefully rubbed a finger over her forehead and drifted off to the comforting sound of deep, rumbling purrs echoing in his ear.
