Chapter 1: Nonstop

Chapter Text

Ju-ri had Kang-tae’s bag ready and found Moon-young at the dinner table, with her back turned. “I’m leaving,” She told her old childhood friend. The short haired girl remembered how she trekked all the way to Seoul to have Moon-young sign a paper concerning her father. Ko Moon-young took her breath away. Ju-ri noticed that she still kept her long hair like when they were kids. She fumbled her words like an idiot and was mentally punching her self for embarrassing herself in front of Moon-young.

Now the woman in front of her had cut her hair short, looking absolutely gorgeous. She glanced to the side and asked, “Hey, did you have dinner?” Moon-young turned to her and was already chewing on her Subway sandwich that was given to her from Seung-jae.

“I have no food to give you, but there’s wine.” Moon-young replied back with her monotone voice. She took another bite of her sandwich, set it down, and then retrieving two wine glasses and bottles. Ju-ri accepted Moon-young’s offer and sat on Moon-young’s left side.

“I drove here though.”

Moon-young was already pouring her glass of wine. “So what?” She already helped herself and started to drink out of her glass. Ju-ri poured herself a glass, “Fine, I’ll take a taxi home.” She immediately started to drink and looked over to Moon-young.

Setting her glass down, she saw how Ju-ri downed her glass in one shot. Ju-ri cleared her throat and set her own empty glass down. Ju-ri immediately was starting to feel the alcohol throughout her own body. Moon-young poured her another glass.

“Are you no longer afraid of me?” Moon-young asked, putting her wine bottle down.

“I still am.” Ju-ri looked at her.

“I am afraid of you and I hate you,” Ju-ri spat out.

She let out a sigh, “I’m also jealous.” This made Moon-young turn her head back at Ju-ri as she downed another glass. Finishing her glass of wine, she pored more. Moon-young sat back in her chair and still glanced at Ju-ri.

Being too drunk to keep her head up, Ju-ri has her face on the table.

“I see that you can drink.” Moon-young smirked a little bit.

Ju-ri started to laugh, with her face planted it was muzzled sound.

She got up instantly and said, “Let me kiss you on the lips.”

“What?” Moon-young was surprised by the drunken girl.

Drunken Ju-ri could no longer hold back. Ever since Moon-young stood up for her in elementary school, Ju-ri has had a crush on her. They played well, but when Ju-ri knew she started to grow feelings, she had to distance herself from Moon-young. She started making friends with other girls, making Moon-young a loner once again.

“Let me kiss you on the lips!” She got up and banged on the table.

Moon-young was so surprised, she was reaching for her wine glass.

“You see I liked you since we were young. I don’t even know why I still have these feelings for you if you still like someone else.” Ju-ri drunkenly admitted.

“Are you happy now? You bitch?” Ju-ri concluded, barely keeping her eyes open.

Moon-young stifled a laugh, “You’re cute.”

“Yes, that’s right. I’m so freaking cute.” Ju-ri tapped on her stomach. “When I’m this cute, why don’t you like me?”

“Because I like-“ Moon-young was cut off by a pair of lips, Ju-ri caressed Moon-young’s cheek and held onto one of her hands.

Ju-ri finally did it.

She kissed the woman she had these feelings for all these years.

Moon-young unexpectedly kissed Ju-ri back and pulled herself back. Ju-ri always liked me? Moon-young thought. Their foreheads were now touching, both women gasping for air. “I wanted to do that for years,” Ju-ri smiled and fell down on her butt, passing out once again.

..

Moon-young helped her back into her chair and stared at the passed out woman. “Juri-ssi, Moon-young ah!” She heard Sang-in through the front door. He immediately made his way to the kitchen.

“Juri-ssi, wake up.” He shook her gently.

“What? Damn it.” Ju-ri did not move.

“She’s just drunk right? Don’t tell me you hit her.” Sang-in told Moon-young.

“I almost did, but she passed out before I could.” Moon-young glanced at Ju-ri. Sang-in was getting Ju-ri’s coat ready, “How much did she drink? She’s not looking good. I should carry her on my back.”

Moon-young asked, “Do you like her?”

“Yes,” He answered Moon-young and had the drunk women on his back.

..

Ju-ri was hungover, she found herself in yesterday’s clothes and didn’t know how she got to her bed last night. Her head was throbbing and now looking for her cellphone. Seung-jae helped with her phone and ran a hand through her hair.

“Well, I hope I didn’t make and mistakes last night.”

She licked her lips and there was some kind of residue on them.

“No, not at all. You threw up twice in Mr. Lee’s clunker, but it’s a great excuse to scrap the car.” Seung-jae drank from a mug. “Want some?” She offered the hungover girl.

“What happened last night?” Ju-ri asked herself and laid back down.

..

She’s now sitting next to Kang-tae on the way to work. The bus ride was awkward and the small talk was not helping. He was now speaking causally to her and he never did that before. He mentioned Moon-young last night and that’s when she remembered.

She kissed Ko Moon-young.

Ko Moon-young kissed her back.

She brought her hand to her lips and let out a groan.

..

Moon-young was confused.

Wearing a black gown, she waited.

Who was she waiting for? Moon Kang-tae or Nam Ju-ri?

She didn’t want to be in a huge mansion by herself on this day.

Nam Ju-ri’s mother was now in front of her and asked what she wanted to eat. Seaweed soup, she simply said to the older woman. She was the first person who greeted her happy birthday. Sang-in and Seung-jae also greeted her a happy birthday.

Their greetings made her smile, but it didn’t reach her eyes.

..

Ju-ri asked her supervisor if she could leave a hour early so she can buy something in the main center of town. For some reason, all she thought about was Moon-young. She felt that this day was special to someone, but she couldn’t pinpoint on who it was. A shop selling random items caught her eye and she was drawn by the No Face stuffed toy from Spirited Away.

The character reminded her of Moon-young.

No Face was always hungry like Moon-young, they didn’t care who they hurt.

They both needed to eat to become full.

Ju-ri is now reminded of the Zombie Kid from Moon-young’s books. Come to think of it, the zombie child in the book reminded her of Moon-young. She let out a sigh and bought the stuffed toy.

..

Today is a really important day. Just come and cook seaweed soup for me and leave!

Kang-tae read the text from Moon-young. Shit, the patient Park Ok-ran escaped and he remembered her mentioning that today was a special day.

He texted Ju-ri quickly before running to Moon-young’s childhood home.

..

Where are you? If you are near Moon-young’s house please stay with her!

Ju-ri just read the text from her former crush. She received another text message from her supervisor and co-workers that patient Park escaped. She fastened her pace, hoping she will reach Moon-young on time.

Please be safe, Moon-young!
