One Last Thing

Summary:

It’s a normal night in the library.
Things are ok.

Work Text:

It was a quiet night in the Library. Most of the others were in their rooms or out on the town, gambling, drinking, or other activities. Not these two, though, not tonight.
By the entrance of the library, Kan was seated against the back of a bookshelf. Held in his left hand was a thin book, the kind you could knock off in a single night without much issue. His right side, however, was occupied as his arm stretched around Ryuu’s back, his beloved friend’s head resting on Kan’s shoulder.
Was it uncomfortable for Kan, to sit like this for who knows how long? A bit, yeah, but Ryuu was comfortable, so who was he to complain?
They’d already eaten together, and Ryuu had already delved once that day, so all that was left was for Kan to finish reading… maybe then he’d pick his friend up and carry him back to his room.
About halfway through his book, he heard footsteps approaching the library entrance. Was it one of the employees? One of the authors? It was unlikely anyone from town would be visiting at this hour.

Hori had a long day full of mostly writing, along with mediating a few arguments. He ran into a snake earlier, so that didn’t help… god, it was so embarrassing, crying to the nearest author so he could deal with it.
The last thing he had to do at this hour was just shelf away a book he’d borrowed a few days prior, then he could go home and sleep.
He shuffled into the library, bags under his eyes, unaware of his surroundings. The only noises he could hear was the clicking of the gears high above and the sound of his ink pumping through his veins.
He yawned as he located where he took out the book, sliding it back into place. There, all done. Now he could finally go to-
He was about to leave the library, when he finally noticed the only other occupants. Kan, and-
“Ryuu…” Hori whispered, the name barely making it past his lips in a quiet breath. He hadn’t seen Ryuu sleeping like this in a while, and couldn’t help but admire how ethereal he looked, his shiny hair falling over his face and his shoulder as he rested on Kan’s. He stood there, staring at Ryuu, before his eyes drifted over to Kan, whose gaze met his.
Kan gave him a knowing smile, mouthing something to him.
Go ahead, Tacchan, he won’t mind
At this, Hori took a small step back, glancing back at Ryuu. Was this really okay? He couldn’t possibly-
It’ll be fine
The ink he heard through his veins was now in his face and ears now as he blushed… but this was as much permission as he was going to get aside from it being from Ryuu himself.
He staggered over, glancing up every few seconds to Kan to make sure it was still ok.
Still having the ok, Hori knelt down on Ryuu’s other side, breath heavy as he stared at his target.
Slowly but surely, Hori sat down, leaning back until his head was firmly rested on Ryuu’s lap.
Turning onto his side, he could only think about how… soft it was, being this close to Ryuu. The scent of cigarette smoke and musk filled his head, but it was Ryuu’s scent, so Hori didn’t mind it that much.
He closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep in minutes from the fatigue, knowing he’d have pleasant dreams that night.
He didn’t see it, but Ryuu smiled as well, his head still on Kan’s shoulder.
