Work Text:

I looked over at the hybrid lying on the couch near the fireplace that warmed our living quarters. The soft glow from the dying fire illuminated his perfectly chiseled features. His wings and tail were wrapped around him like a blanket and his face held such peace in his sleep. The scene displayed such innocence that one would never suspect the tortuous life he lived before we met.

The moment we bonded as Dragon and Dragon Tamer, all of his horrid memories and the pain his captors had caused flooded into me like a tsunami, drowning me in despair. Surprisingly, I kept my composure in front of him and the rest of our rescue party. As soon as nightfall fell upon us, I took the first watch and wandered a short distance away from camp to allow myself to grieve for the tragedy that was his past.

Even though our bond was rocky in the beginning, we slowly grew to trust each other completely over the past year. Though we would never want to be parted from each other, I would lay down my life for him and I know he'd do the same for me. Because he had spent his life in a dungeon, there were so many things he had never experienced.

That's what we were doing before I become the king of the Dragon Tamers, experiencing the world together. He didn't know it, but I had plans to show him one of the most beautiful wonders of this world. A phenomena that only happened once every ten years.

My parents had taken me to see it when I was young and the location was a secret only known to the Dragon Tamer clans. We aren't exactly sure how or why this phenomenon occurs but our legends say it is a gift from the god of dragons, a way to show us that he is still pleased with us. Because it was considered holy ground, only those assigned to guard it and members of the royal Dragon Tamer family may enter.

I felt a tinge of guilt as I rose and walked over to wake him. He looked to be at such peace but if I waited any longer, we would miss it.

"Hey shitty hair, wake the fuck up!" I shook his sleeping form.

"Huh?" He glanced up with the dazed look in his sleepy eyes.

"Come on idiot, we're leaving." I put on my cloak and fastened my sword to my hip.

He sat up, immediately alert, "Is something wrong?"

"No. We are going on a quick flight, there's something we need to see."

He grimaced, "Seriously, this late?"

"Yes, this late." I glowered at him, he was wasting time, "Get your ass moving before it's too late!"

He jumped up, got ready, and we both walked towards the balcony connected to our quarters. All royal Dragon Tamers and Dragons were provided with balconies for quick and easy take off.

He transformed into his full dragon form, a giant crystal ruby, the only one of his kind alive. I swiftly climbed up his leg and sat in the spot between the spikes along his back that was meant for riders. The scales there were strong but soft enough to avoid shredding the skin of the riders legs during flight.

"We're flying 80 kilometers to the north." I directed and he took off. The rush of wind hit my face as we shot into the sky. Once we leveled out at a good flying height I took a deep breath in. Nothing was more relaxing to me than spending time flying alone with Kirishima. From the way he flew at times like these, I knew he felt the same.

"So, what's the plan? Where are we going?" He spoke into my mind. I immediately threw defensive walls up around my mind to guard my secret. Telepathy between us was only possible when he was in his Dragon form since he could only growl as a full Dragon.

"I'll tell you when we get there." I yelled to him over the wind.

I could feel his whole body vibrate as he growled in annoyance. We were only flying for about fifteen minutes before I saw our destination.

"You see that mountain range up ahead? There is a cave to the 30 degrees east, that is where we are headed." He gently growled in response and followed my directions. As we drew closer, a Dragon sharply dropped from above right into our path causing Kirishima to jolt to a stop.

"Who dares enter these sacred grounds!" The rider yelled.

"Get your fucking asses out of our way. It's I, Prince Katsuki, heir to the throne." I angrily shouted back. The Dragon positioned itself next to us and the rider glanced at my left arm. It contained my tattoo that indicated I was royalty.

"Forgive me, my lord. I'm only doing my job. You may proceed." The Dragon and Tamer shot back up above the clouds.

"Damn idiots!" I yelled my complaint but only Kirishima could hear me.

Kirishima landed just outside the cave and when I dismounted from his back he transformed into his hybrid form.

"Hey man, are you going to tell me what's going on yet?" He trailed after me as I walked towards the cave entrance.

"No. It's best to just show you."

"Okay then." The look of confusion on his face was so cute I had to look away. As the darkness of the cave surrounded us, Kirishima breathed fire into his hand and held it like a floating flame. My explosions were no help here unless I want to bring the place down.

After walking for some time a soft blue light shone up ahead, the end of the cave. Kirishima doused his flames as we exited the cave and were greeted by a luscious garden with multiple little streams and fountains. There were rose bushes everywhere covered with black rose buds.

"Woah!" He walked ahead of me with a look of wonder on his face, "Bakugo, what is this place?"

I followed him further into the garden, "A place my people believe to be blessed by the god of dragons."

"Really?" He looked back at me, "Why are we here in the middle of the night?"

I looked up at the sky, the full moon was almost in position, "You'll see. It's almost time."

His red eyes darted around the garden, taking in the natural beauty. He looked back at me with a grin, showing his razor sharp teeth.

I grabbed his arm, "This way, Red. It's best seen from the center of the garden."

The look of curious excitement in his eyes was evident as he followed me. We only stood for a few minutes before the full moon was at it's peak height.

In an instant all of the roses bloomed and glowed. The specks of light that bounced off them came in many colors of red, yellow, blue, green, purple, and any other colors one could imagine. It looked like we were standing in a galaxy of miniature stars. The whole garden was light up in these tiny lights shining off the roses.

Kirishima's mouth was agape. "We call them Galaxy Roses. They only bloom once every ten years."

A look of pure amazement was written all over his face as he slowly spun around drinking in the scene around us. When he finally faced me again he was shaking and beads of tears in the corner of his eyes.

"Thank you so much, Bakugo. I've-" He cut himself off as a sob escaped him, "Nobody has ever done something so wonderful for me. It's so manly of you."

Without thinking, I grabbed his arm and pulled him into a hug. His sobs wracked his body as I held him. "I wanted to surprise you. After the shit you've been through, I'm going to show you the fucking world."

He pulled away and leaned his forehead against mine, a smile on his lips, "Thank you Katsuki, I love you so much."

I smiled back, "I love you too, Eijiro."
