Not Enough

Summary:

A month after Dazai's death, Atsushi hadn't stop thinking about his mentor while Akutagawa wished he looked at him and maybe think of him instead of thinking of Dazai.

"It hurts to know that you will never look at me the way I look at you"

Work Text:

It’s been a month since Dazai’s death, he was found in his dorm with a smile. No one knows what’s the cause of his death but that didn’t mean Atsushi blamed himself and eventually, Kyouka had to smack him to his senses, he did stop blaming himself but he never stopped grieving.

And somehow his relationship with Akutagawa had improved from a mere-partner into a friendship, they both held a deep respect for each other. They would sometimes often hang out together if they were free from work. Atsushi had learned something new from Akutagawa (He chuckled when Akutagawa curled his face in disgust when Atsushi was plopping a piece of orange in his mouth) and so was he (Akutagawa wasn’t surprised when Atsushi manage to eat 50 Chazuke).

Akutagawa-san finally started to smile, huh.” Atsushi thought while walking by Akutagawa’s side. There was a small but genuine smile plastered on Akutagawa’s face as he stared at the sunset and for some reason, Atsushi softly smiled too.

But something painful flashed in his mind, his smile slowly became bitter as he reminisces about his mentor, “I want to see Dazai-san’s smile too…” his sunset eye started to water.

Atsushi.” Akutagawa’s voice made him startled. Atsushi turned his head to meet with Akutagawa, his smile was now replaced with a dejected face. “Who are you thinking about just now?”

“Huh?”

Akutagawa slowly invaded his personal space with few intimidating steps as his face was hovering a few inches apart from Atsushi’s face, “Am I not good enough?”
