Why Bakugou would be in this cake shop on a Friday on his own free will? and most importantly why would he be approaching her and pretending to be her date was beyond her. One could say Ochako was beyond shocked, was this really how Kaminari felt like every time he'd short-circuit?

Work Text:

----------------------

Uraraka was out on a date.

An actual date.

It's sort of surreal, only because Uraraka doesn't go on dates. In fact, she really can't even remember any time she let any guy take him somewhere alone and intimate in an emotional sense, nor could she remember the last time someone had shown actual interest in her. Seeing as her first year crush on Midoriya had been so awkward, last thing she wanted to do was make the same mistake twice.

She decided to look nice and had worn her favorite baby pink ruffle sundress and a white cardigan. She had borrowed some cute white sneakers from Mina and a nice purse to go with it. Her hair that was down to the length of her elbows had been styled in a nice ponytail. In order words, Ochako felt good, she felt pretty.

Mina had set up this date for her, an old acquaintance of hers from her middle school. Ochako was opposed to the idea at first but who knows what she could've gotten out of today, yet judging how her date was an hour late, nothing.

Because it didn't take a psychic person to know she had been stood up.

She leaves her phone locked but on the table facing up so she can see if theres any updates without looking desperately at it. Maybe the guy just got really caught up in something. They're heroes in training so more than anybody she understands just how unpredictable things can be. She sighs, pillowing her cheek with her hand and letting it squish her face up.

It sucks. Something like this has never happened to her before. She'd rather be at her grandparents farm cleaning cow-poop, at six in the morning on the hottest day of the year than having to sit there, in the empty dessert shop, dressed up and alone looking like a fool.

Everything was going great up until the date itself, she had even felt pretty enough she wore her favorite pink dress today, had even taken the time to work on her hair which she usually would have in a bun to keep from getting in her way during training. She knows she looks like an idiot and right now the other people at the store are probably judging her, she feels incredibly small and unwanted. How could she have let her hopes up thinking someone actually found her interesting enough to seek her outside of school.

Ochako's brow furrows. Should she just get up and leave? she's already here, but she doesn't even feel like eating any of the cakes they have. Should she leave and go to that shop that sells mochi? but what if her date does show up? should she hold on to that tiny hope that maybe he'd show up after all?

-----------------------

She ends up waiting for another hour. She ends up ordering a piece of their strawberry cheesecake and swirls around her iced coffee with her straw. Sweet things were her guilty pleasure but she's not hungry and doesn't know why she's eating a slice of her cheesecake, she feels like she's eating the cheesecake out of spite. Eating is exactly what she needs right now, she concludes. She deserves a little sweetness even if its in the form of a cake.

Of course tonight of all nights would be the night that class 3-B's most annoying student would walk in the door with a few more of his classmates. Ochako prays to All might and hopes that none of them notice her.

The night can't get any worse, but Ochako must have broken a mirror or placed her chopsticks straight up because it's no surprise when she hears a voice say, "well, well, well if it isn't class 1-A's Chubs."

Just what she needed awesome. Today was going just so great, she wasn't sure just how much she could put up with before her limit. She feels like crying but she also wasn't about to let one more person make her feel miserable today.

"Monoma," she says, ignoring the the nickname that rests on his tongue. She immediately wishes she wouldn’t entertain him. "I'd say it's nice to see you but I'd rather it be meeting a villain, but hey! I guess you're close enough!"

"Aren't you the most pleasant person to converse with, Chubs " Monoma says a little too brightly. "Which surely explains why you're here by yourself on a Friday night."

Ochako sincerely has never been a fan of violence but she wants to bash his head against the table or erase his gravity and let him fall from the ceiling, not high enough to kill him but high enough to ensure a few broken bones. She refrains, she's not about to ruin her record over him. "I'll have you know I'm waiting for someone."

Way to go ochako! what if he decides to wait around and sees that your date isn't showing up.

"I'm sure your date will show up soon." He just doesn't know when to quit. "It's okay if they doesn't! There's nothing wrong with someone realizing they're making a big mistake before they actual do it."

"He's coming," She says loudly, glaring at the blonde copycat. "He's just...running late."

"Of course not!" Monoma laughs, "I'm sure you have a date! Of course you have a date."

Ochako doesn't know how much longer of Monoma's teasing she can take before she, A, considers erasing his gravity and making him break a few bones or, B, cry. But there's just no way she would cry in front of Monoma. She wasn't the type to give into teasing but everything transpiring that evening had been so overwhelming. She does have a date, one who didn't bother to show up at all, suddenly her eyes are swelling up and she lowers her head so her eyes are out of Monoma's view.

"Oi! What the fuck do you extra think you're doing harrassing my date! " A voice cuts through the Dessert shop. At that raspy voice, Ochako looks up almost instantly. To her utter surprise, the source of the voice is exactly whom she think it belonged to, Bakugou Katsuki, and he's actually dressed nicely for once. He's wearing a regular black crew neck shirt under an orange bomber jacket, black pair of skinny jeans and some sneakers. His pants actually not low for the first time. She had always found Bakugou to be one of the most attractive members in the class (Todoroki had first place every year in their voting polls. A thing the boys probably didn't know the girls did for fun).

Why Bakugou would be in this cake shop on a Friday on his own free will? and most importantly why would he be approaching her and pretending to be her date was beyond her. One could say Ochako was shocked, was this what Kaminari felt like every time he'd short-circuit?

Before she can even begin to process Bakugou is making his way to sit in the opposite chair from the one she's sitting in. "Shitty hair and Raccoon-eyes didn't know when to stop so it took me forever to ditch them!"

Oh. Oh. This had to be one of those heroes prank videos Mina loved to watch, Someone was probably going to jump out from behind the counter and yell "You've been pranked!" She should start looking for the hidden camera.

"I―huh," she stutters.

"Angel Face," the boy stage-whispers, "Why haven't you told this second choice extra to fuck off."

"Bakugou! That's your date chubs?," Monoma's eyes widening even further, if his eyes widened anymore they would probably fall off his face. (she would like to see it).

"It's none of your business. So get your ass back to your little group of extras before I blast it over there for you." Ochako wants to laugh at the look on Monoma's face. He takes one looks at the pair and goes back to where the his other classmates are.

As soon as Monoma is out of earshot, Ochako finally composes herself, still looking at the boy sitting across from her like if he grew a second head. "Bakugo-kun I'm so sorry. I hope Mina didn't force you into doing this."

"It's fine cheeks. I don't do anything I don't want to." Bakugou huffs, crossing his arms while looking at her. "I wouldn't pass out any chance to mess with that fucker."

"That I can't argue" Ochako agrees. "Still, I'm sorry for getting you involved. I...I'm actually really glad you came over." She bites her lip and looks down. "I got stood up. I mean, you probably already knew since you came here."

"Raccoon-eyes told me." Bakugou snorts. "That guy was an asshole and he definitely doesn't deserve you."

"That's surprisingly sweet coming from someone like you." Ochako giggles which surprises her. She doesn't know why Bakugou sitting across from her make her feel better but it does.

"Oi! what the fuck is that supposed to mean I'm a fucking delight." Bakugo makes an offended noise. They had been classmates for so long that his baku-rage had been something all of the students had been used to and weren't faced by.

"Nothing, nothing." She says shyly, shrugging. "I'm just saying you can be pretty sweet under that angry exterior you put out."Bakugou looks like he doesn't know what to say, or if he was about to blow her up. In the end, she's surprised to hear what comes out of his mouth next.

"Do you want to ditch this shitty ass place and go somewhere?"

Ochako sits up and looks at him with a raised eyebrow. "To where?"

"Let's just do something. You're here all depressed cause you had to sit here on your ass alone and I already came all the way fucking here. Any shit is better than this." Ochako can feel her heart race.

Bakugou was inviting her somewhere? out of his own free will? Ochako wonders if he's doing it out of pity, but she's known Bakugou long enough to know he doesn't do things if he doesn't want too.

"Are you coming or not?" Bakugou drops a bill on the table and before she can protest about him paying for her cheesecake and coffee, he's out the door.

She quickly collects herself and grabs her purse and starts running after him. Reaching his side, she matched the pace he's walking at. She turns to him and grins, while he turns his face the opposite way away from her, but she could still see his pout and the way the tips of his ears are tinted red. cute.

Given her luck tonight, being here with Bakugou right now just feels like she's hit jackpot. She must've been so caught up in her excitement that she thinks out loud, "I never expected Bakugou-kun to be this nice and spontaneous."

"A Date." Bakugou announces.

Ochako doesn't understand what he means by this announcement of his. "huh?"

"We're going on a date and by the time I take you home you'll know what the best date looks like so that other fuckers will feel pressured to ask you out. " Once again for the second time that evening, Ochako can't stop shock nor the giggles that escape her. But whatever she might as well go with the flow of things for once.

"Alright Lord Explosion Murder, Let's do this your way."

-----------------------

Uraraka can't remember the last time she was having as much fun as she's having with Bakugou. They'd stopped by the Mochi shop she liked and had made their way to the arcade. Bakugou doesn't really say much but she's so excited that she chatters away. She discovers early on that this is his first date because she can tell by his nervousness and the way he's leading her.

Surprisingly, for it to be a Friday night theres only a few people were playing the games and the arcade itself was pretty empty. Not that they would complain, that just meant there were a lot of games to choose from really, rows of shooting, driving, 4D, dancing games They had a lot of options for the two of them to play.

" Aww.. This is the third time, waddya say Bakugou-kun best four out of five?" Ochako asks him. They had been playing against each other seeing who could dump more basketballs in the hoops in ninety seconds. Her being absolutely terrible at it.

"You said that the last three matches too." says Bakugou, a cocky smile tugging at his lips. "You suck at this game cheeks and with your quirk you should've handed me my ass."

"If you want to beat me so badly, " He grins wickedly, "You'll just have to show me then, Round face." he takes Ochako's hand and drags them both towards the machine with the guns.

Ochako gulps, she's seen that grin on him during class matches when he'd have to fight an opponent and it was his famous "I'm gonna blast you all to hell" grin. Even knowing how competitive he is, she was gonna beat him at something, Even if she had to drag his butt onto the arcade's dance machine. A game she had gotten good at with how many times she'd play with Mina and the rest of the girls.

But she hadn't anticipated Bakugou to be the type to become more arrogant and loose with each game they played, even going as far as mimicking being shot while Ochako shot his character on the screen. Ochako was very glad there weren’t that many people around because she was sure someone would come over to tell him to stop screaming and her to stop laughing so loudly.

They played a few more games, Bakugo winning them all, before they call it a night. This night just kept getting more and more unbelievable as it went.

Ochako offers her hand to Bakugou and the other gladly takes it. They go claim their tickets and Bakugou chooses an orange cat plushie as his price and hands it off to Ochako.

“Come on” Bakugou tugs on her hand as they walk out into the chilly air of the evening. “Don't want Aizawa to be on our asses.”

-----------------------

Walking back to the dorm Uraraka didn't say much. She had talked the ears of his head all day but by the time they left the arcade they both were so exhausted and she couldn't bring out a single word. They're still holding hands by the time they make it to her dorm door.

“Alright. We're here cheeks.” Bakugou says, giving her hand a squeeze before releasing.

“I had a lot of fun tonight.” Ochako smiles softly and she means it. She really did have fun with him and couldn't wait for him to ask her on another date. Everything they had done that night had felt so natural, Bakugou really did deliver when he said it would set the bar high.

They both stand there for what seems forever and she doesn’t feel nervous about what she's planning to do. She lifts her both her hands to lay against Bakugou's cheeks, teddy bear and mochi bag forgotten on the spot next to her door. She the small panic before he leans into her touch, feeling both his arms coming around her waist.

“Thank you.” she murmurs.

Just as she's leaning up, she can feel him lean down, slow, the soft pulling of his palms against her back encouraging her to close her eyes, softly leaning her head to the side. The kiss they share is exceedingly gentle, firm and warm. Uraraka swears she feels the warmth and how it lingers when the pull away.

"Can I call you later?"

Ochako turns to him, eye's wide. He just spent the whole evening with her, shared a kiss with her and was now asking her if she'd like to talk on the phone with him. She doesn't know if she's under some quirk right now but whatever this dream is. She doesn't want to wake up. "If you don't want me to, I fucking won't no need to look at me with those stupid pretty big eyes of yours like you're doing right now." She could tell he was embarrassed from the way he turns his gaze to the other side, tips of his ears clearly red.

"I'd love that!" Uraraka says a little too quickly, she hopes she didn't look crazy with the way she was smiling.

"See you later cheeks." Bakugou pulls on her nose playfully before he lets go and walks back in the dirrection they came from.

Ochako shuts the door to her dorm, orange plushie in hand, and falls face down onto her bed. She looks at how cute the cat plushie really is, she places the plushie on her pillow and then goes to the bathroom for a quick shower. She had class tomorrow and wanted to at least be in laying on her bed before the explosive decided to give her a call, she didn't mind talking with him late into the night because every hour of sleep she'd lose was totally worth it if she got to listen to his voice. Man she was whipped already, how had she not realized it before. She's changing into her nightwear when she hears her phone ringing.

CALLER ID: Bakugo-kun

she smiles and places the phone to her ear as she answers the call. She just couldn't wait to tell Mina how she'd actually achieved to score Uraraka a decent date, Even if the date wasn't the one both girls had originally planned for.

Notes:

also, Uraraka's date not showing up had totally been an inconvenience. Inconveniences happen, especially when they come in the form of an angry jealous blonde.
