Work Text:

For Teapostal
He had a problem and Harry knew it well. Every day when he and his friends descended the stairs and went in to the Great Hall for breakfast his eyes would immediately search out a certain blond haired, grey eyed Adonis. He knew it was only a matter of time before he made a fool out of himself, either Draco was going to catch him, or he was going be so engrossed in his morning viewing that he would lose his footing and land flat on his face.

Unfortunately his staring was not completely unnoticed. Hermione watched her best friend carefully and every day she became more and more certain of what she had to do. One day, after months of watching Harry pine away and seeing him become more and more withdrawn, she put her plan into action. It never even crossed her mind that her machinations might not be appreciated. In fact she was so sure that her plan would succeed and that her meddling would create the perfect couple of Harry and Draco that she was quite smug walking into the common room the morning after tricking Harry and Draco into the Room of Requirement together and locking them in overnight. She certainly never expected the angry glares focused on her from her boyfriend, or the sight of Harry, curled into a ball in the most hidden corner the room could provide, tears falling unabated and sobs shaking his slight form. “How could I have known?” she screamed when Ron pulled her into the hallway to inform her of her folly. How was she supposed to foresee this possible conclusion? For Draco to not just reject Harry, but to use him, to fuck him, act so sweet and loving, only to turn him away in the harsh light of day? No, she thought he had changed, she thought she had seen the same look in his eye that she saw so often in her friend’s. But instead all of her work was for naught, and now it seems she had lost her best friend and her boyfriend for good. Ron had made it clear that she wasn’t welcome with them anymore. All in all it was a day filled with tears, and more than one person was broken.
