Work Text:
Ah yes, summer , the time for the pool and fresh fruit to keep you hydrated from the hot rays of the beating sun. As much as Shoto would like to deny it, he sort of really liked the summertime. Despite how unbearably hot it was, there was always one thing he looked forward to in the summer, and that was his father’s summerhouse.
Every summer break, his father and him, along with Yaoyorozu, would take a long drive to the Todoroki’s vacation house stationed right next to the beach. Now you may be thinking, how could Shoto have fun in his father’s presence? Well, that’s an easy answer. Yaoyorozu.
Whenever she was involved, Enji acted like a model citizen, a proper father , if you will. Shoto thinks it’s because he secretly wants them to date, and that’s why he doesn’t act so brash around her.
They’ve never, ever had those sort of feelings towards each other, so if that’s what his father really was aiming for he would be deeply disappointed. Especially now since they both had partners.
Speaking of partners , you know how Shoto mentioned Yaoyorozu and his father being the only two other people that went on this annual trip? Well, that might change this time around.
Yaoyorozu has spoken to him about this personally, so he knows for sure she’s planning on asking her girlfriend, Jirou, to join them for the trip. She even encouraged Shoto to invite Izuku , which at first seemed like a terrible idea. He will never forget the humiliated look in his boyfriend's eyes when his father insulted him right to his face.
After giving it some thought though, along with Yaoyorozu’s persistent nature, it might not be such a bad thing to invite Izuku. It’s not like he goes on this trip for his father's sake, and if Yaoyorozu brings a plus one, then Shoto would automatically get to bring someone along as well. Enji would have a hard time denying him if Yaoyorozu asked first. Shoto made sure to tell her that.
When they invite the Yaoyorozu’s over for tea the weekend before the trip, Yaomomo makes sure to ask very blatantly about bringing her girlfriend along with her.
Shoto had to curl his lips over his teeth to stop the obnoxious laugh threatening to spill past his mouth from the shocked look on his father’s face. He nearly choked on his tea, it was so hilarious.
Of course his father said yes, though a bit shell shocked, and that’s when Shoto decided to swoop in and ask about his own plus one.
His father agrees to Izuku through gritted teeth, but hey, at least he said yes. Shoto was half expecting him to say no, even in front of their guests.
Having gotten his blessing from his father, all that was left for Shoto to do was to ask Izuku if he wanted to join them. He probably should’ve asked him first, but getting Enji’s approval was far more crucial in case Izuku did agree to going.
He asked him Thursday afternoon ( two-ish days before the trip ) while they walked to the train station together.
“Do you have any plans for this summer break?” Shoto asked, trying his best to be nonchalant.
Izuku hummed, tapping his index finger against his chin in thought. “N-Not that I know of. Why d-do you ask?”
“Would you be opposed to suddenly having plans? ” Shoto asked, distantly aware of how suspicious he sounded.
Izuku glanced up at him, arching one of his thin, dark brows. “Wh-Why’re you t-talking like that?”
Shoto grumbled, cheeks heating up in embarrassment. “Will you just answer my question?”
His boyfriend giggled softly, nudging Shoto’s arm with his elbow. He smiled fondly, throwing the same arm Izuku pushed around the boy’s shoulders, pulling him closer to his side. Izuku melted into the embrace, sighing contentedly before answering.
“No, I-I wouldn’t be opposed. Why do you a-ask?” He repeated, nuzzling his cheek into Shoto’s chest as they walked.
“I’m getting to that part, be patient.” Shoto teased, earning him a light pinch on his side. “Every year, for summer vacation, my father, Yaoyorozu, and I take a weekend long trip to my family's beach house. I was wondering if you wanted to come along?” The end of his sentence pitched up in question.
“A-A tr-trip? With y-your f-f-father? ” Izuku asked, emphasizing significantly on the last word.
Shoto winced. That didn’t sound good.
“And Yaoyorozu,” He tried.
“And y-your f-father.” Izuku repeated.
“And me .” He tried again.
“Shoto…” Izuku sighed, trailing off with a troubled look on his face. Shoto frowned, suddenly feeling guilty for asking in the first place, especially knowing how his boyfriend felt about his father.
“I’m sorry. I know your first impression of my dad wasn’t the greatest , but trust me, he won’t come near you. He won’t even speak to you, I’ll make sure of it. Just..” He dropped his gaze to Izuku’s face at a busy crosswalk. “I would really like it if you came.”
Izuku sighed once more, pursing his lips, his eyes looking off into the distance. “D-Do you really w-want me to g-go?”
The crosswalk light turned green, but they stayed anyway.
Shoto nodded his head, smiling guiltily. “Yes, I do. It’ll be fun, I promise. And it won’t only be you joining us if you do decide to come. Yaoyorozu is bringing her girlfriend, so you won’t have to worry about my dad being a dick. I think.”
Shoto’s chest swelled with hope when Izuku perked up at the mention of someone else’s other than him joining them on the trip.
“I’d h-have to ask m-my mom first…” He muttered, freckled cheeks splotched with color.
Shoto grinned shamelessly. “So you’ll come?!”
Izuku blushed, looking away from him. “I-I have to see wh-what my mom says, please d-don’t get your h-hopes up.”
“As long as you consider it, I’ll be happy.” Shoto smiled, leaning down to press a quick peck on Izuku’s lips, making the boy turn even more red.
“She’ll probably s-say yes. We’ll see. I’ll t-text you after I-I ask.” Izuku mumbled, leading them both down the crosswalk when the light turned green again.
Shoto didn’t bother with a response, opting to pull Izuku closer into his side.
He hoped Midoriya-san would say yes.
And that’s how Izuku ends up having to sit on his lap during the hour-long drive to the beach house.
Maybe he should backtrack.
That same Thursday Izuku had texted him, just like he said he would, stating that his mother agreed to letting her son go on the trip, specifically because Shoto had invited him. That little detail makes his heart swell with pride.
The day after, school goes by quickly, thankfully, and Shoto follows Izuku back to his apartment to help him pack a bag of clothes and other necessities he might need for the trip.
They would be leaving at around seven in the morning to beat early morning traffic. It wasn’t ideal, but it would probably save them from getting carsick from sitting for too long.
Early Saturday morning, Shoto gets dressed in his swim trunks and a random t-shirt, planning on just diving straight into the ocean once they got there. Enji and him load their things into the van silently, before slipping into the vehicle and driving off to Yaoyorozu’s house to claim her.
They arrive in about five minutes and take an extra ten to load all of the girl’s things. Yaoyorozu has always been known for.. overpacking. Not that his father ever said anything about it, but her bags and such took up most of the backseat, leaving no space for anyone to sit. Shoto doesn’t dwell on the fact.
Next they drive off to Jirou’s apartment, as it was closer than Izuku’s apartment was. They’d pick him up last, unfortunately. Shoto tries not to pout about it.
Jirou packs very lightly, he learns. The girl hefts a dark purple backpack over her shoulder, explaining to Shoto’s father that she has everything she needs for the weekend in it. Shoto finds that hard to believe. Yaoyorozu blushes when asked about her twenty-something bags sitting in the backseats. Serves her right for making him carry all those suitcases.
Jirou takes the spot in the middle, and that’s when Shoto realizes… there’s not a seat for Izuku.
His father already set the location heading for Izuku’s apartment, and Shoto begins only slightly panicking.
There’s no seats in the back, thanks to Yaoyorozu, and there weren't any available seats in the middle. The passenger seat was taken by his father’s duffle bag, and even if it wasn’t, Shoto wouldn’t subject Izuku to having to sit next to his father. And there was absolutely no way he’d let Izuku sit on the floor.
He stays silent about the issue until they pull up in front of Izuku’s apartment, the boy already standing outside with his bag being tightly held against his chest. Despite the obvious problem he has on his hands he can’t help but to let a smile morph into his face.
The boy walks up to the car, after throwing his bag into the back with the rest of Yaoyorozu’s things, opening the door and immediately freezing.
“Uh..” He says, gaze locking with Shoto’s, pleadingly. He doesn’t know what to do.
Yaoyorozu and Jirou look around awkwardly, trying to scoot over in their seats to make space for Izuku. There’s not enough room. Fuck.
Enji turns to them with a mean scowl on his face, Izuku immediately ducks his head low. Shoto frowns, worried.
“Shoto, where is he—?”
Bingo!
“In my lap!” He suddenly blurts, shocking himself and the four other passengers. Enji glares at him, before scoffing and turning to face forward again.
“If we get pulled over, you’re in serious trouble.” His father warns, massaging his temples.
Shoto rolls his eyes. “Yeah, yeah.”
He looks down at his boyfriend, bending down to grab one of his hands. “I’m sorry,” He whispers as quietly as he can.
Izuku shrugs silently, climbing into the car, and hesitantly sitting in between Shoto’s parted legs. His arms loop around the boy's waist, pulling him closer and nuzzling an apology into Izuku’s curly hair. He really does feel bad, but having Izuku in this position wasn’t the worst thing to happen.
“Midoriya-kun, I’m so sorry! I shouldn’t have packed so many things. This is all my fault!” Yaoyorozu speaks up after a few silent minutes of driving.
“Yeah, it is— Ow! ” Shoto yelps when Izuku pinches his thigh to stop him from finishing his sentence. He pouts and slumps back in his seat.
“I-I-It’s totally fine, Yaoyorozu-san. It i-isn’t so b-bad.” Shoto notices how quietly Izuku’s speaking, practically closer to a whisper than his normal speaking voice.
Shoto frowns when he realizes why that must be. His father is an asshole.
“You do look pretty comfy cuddling up with Todoroki.” Jirou points out with a smug smirk. He watches with fascination as Izuku’s ears turn a shade of pink.
He might be blushing too, he doesn’t want to know.
“Don’t tease them, Kyouka! It’s my fault they have to sit like that!” Yaoyorozu admonishes, smacking the girl's arm playfully. Jirou giggles loudly when Izuku hides his face.
The rest of the drive goes fairly well, considering they don’t get pulled over, Shoto counts it as a win. They pull into the driveway, and immediately step out of the overheated van, stretching their bodies from the cramped space. Enji announces his leave, informing the kids that he would be walking down to the supermarket to buy some groceries. The other three nod to him, Shoto pays the man no attention.
Once Enji departs the air is significantly less stifling. His father sure knew how to bring down the mood.
“Y-Y-Yaoyorozu-san, w-would you like some h-help unloading a-all your things?” Izuku offers, eyeing the girl’s troubled face after slinging his own bag over his shoulder.
Shoto squints at him, frowning. Izuku is obviously tired from the trip. He probably woke up earlier than the rest of them to make sure he was ready on time, he looks exhausted.
“Oh, no , that’s quite all right Midoriya-kun! Besides, I don’t think Todoroki-kun would let you.” Yaoyorozu giggles, looking directly at Shoto who was subconsciously scowling at his own thoughts.
He blinks back to reality as Izuku flushes a dark red. “B-But you have so m-many bags! I c-can’t just—!”
“Midoriya-kun,” Yaoyorozu smiles, gently interrupting him. “You should go lay down for a bit, you look a bit tired. Todoroki-kun will help me unload, don’t worry about it.”
He what?
Izuku pouts, looking pleadingly over to Shoto who smiles fondly at him. “She’s right, you should go rest, Izuku.”
He only pouts further at his words, begrudgingly walking off into the house after giving Shoto a quick kiss on the cheek. He watches Izuku with close eyes, already missing the boy’s presence.
“You’re so in love with him,” A feminine voice says in his ear, making him whip around with a blush high on his cheeks.
It’s Jirou, and she looks anything but shameful with a smug grin on her face. “Am I wrong?”
Yaoyorozu stifles a giggle behind her dainty hand. “You’re awful,” She titters while popping the trunk open, a few of her bags tumbling out in the process. “We have our work cut out for us.” She says sheepishly.
Shoto scoffs, crouching down to pick up a very expensive looking bag that had no place sitting on the sandy driveway. “I can’t believe you’re forcing me to help you. Your girlfriend should be the one helping instead of me.” He says, pointedly glaring at Jirou who sends one right back.
“You’re just pissy because you can’t be inside with your precious Izuku .” The girl speaks sassily, hoisting up a few bags in her arms.
“Don’t fight you two.” Yaoyorozu grunts, struggling to carry five bags at once. Why was she even attempting to do that?
Shoto huffs a laugh, grabbing one of the bags, slinging it over his shoulder. The girl blushes, smiling gratefully.
“We’re not fighting .” Jirou rolls her eyes playfully, grabbing the last bag, and puffing out a breath. “I hope these are your only bags, Mo.”
Yaoyorozu blushes a dark red, probably from the cute nickname. Shoto smirks teasingly. “Th-They are! Thank you both very much for helping me.” She smiles shyly, placing a sweet kiss on Jirou’s cheek.
Shoto scoffs at the display, walking through the entrance of the house, making a beeline for Yaoyorozu’s room, dumping her bags at the entrance. He huffs a breath, wiping the sweat off his forehead with the back of his hand.
“Thanks, Todoroki-kun!” The girl grins, patting his shoulder gratefully as she walks by him into the room.
Shoto smiles softly, nodding. Jirou follows a few steps behind, blowing her bangs out of her eyes before side eyeing Shoto.
“I saw your boyfriend passed out on the couch, you should probably take him to your room before your dad finds him.” She advises, walking the rest of the way into Yaoyorozu’s room, flopping onto the bed.
Shoto furrows his brows, speed walking to the living room and sure enough, finds Izuku fast asleep on the sofa. He scoffs a little laugh, walking over to the boy, admiring the view he had.
His boyfriend had his mouth hanging open unattractively, drool spilling from the corner of his parted lips, small snores escaping from his nose. Despite this, Shoto still drinks in the sight of his sleeping boyfriend. It’s something he’s never seen before.
They’ve known each other for five months now, have been dating for three of them, and Shoto’s never seen the boy sleeping. Is that weird? No.. maybe. Did they have to see each other at their most vulnerable? Is that just something other couples did?
Izuku stirs in his sleep, smacking his lips closed. His eyes flutter open, squinting from the brightness of the room. Shoto waits for him to notice him watching.
Izuku’s eyes begrudgingly open, blinking owlishly before they move to make eye contact with Shoto, finally noticing him. He gasps, flinching a bit in surprise before relaxing, Shoto chuckles at his reaction.
“Hello,” He grins cheekily, leaning down to press a gentle kiss on the boy’s forehead.
Izuku grumbles, stretching his body out on the couch. “What t-time is it?” He mumbles, clumsily sitting up, eyes still half shut.
“8:20 in the morning, my dearest Izuku. Are you still tired?” Shoto asks, eyeing the way his boyfriend was nodding off a bit.
The boy nodded, not bothering to lie. Shoto’s glad he didn’t. “I-I didn't g-get much sleep l-last night.” He responds, leaning his head back on the couch, shutting his eyes again.
Shoto joins him on the couch, wrapping an arm around the boy’s small shoulders, letting Izuku cuddle into him, encircling his own arms around Shoto’s waist, making himself comfortable. “Why not?” Shoto asks softly, mindlessly playing with one of Izuku’s curls in between his fingers.
Izuku sighs sleepily. “I-I was.. just th-thinking.”
“About?” Shoto prompts.
“Um, s-stuff,”
“Like what?”
“ Shoto! ” The boy whines, nuzzling his face deep into Shoto’s chest.
He breathes a laugh. “I just wanna know what’s been on your mind. Maybe I can help.” He offers.
Izuku sighs. “I w-was th-thinking about y-your... dad .” He whispers the last word as if it’s a swear, and it might as well be with all the negative connotation that comes along with Shoto’s father.
“A-A-Are you u-upset?” Izuku asks after a minute when Shoto doesn’t respond.
“No, no, of course not! I don’t blame you for feeling indifferent towards that guy. I promise you, Izuku, he won’t come near you if I’m around. Don’t let him spoil your vacation, okay?” Shoto says, holding onto Izuku tighter than before.
“O-Okay,” The boy mumbles distantly. “But f-f-first we nap.”
Shoto chuckles fondly, resting his head on top of Izuku’s. “Fine. We’ll nap.”
“Man, they’ve been asleep for, like, two hours now. Todoroki-san is gonna be pissed.” A voice whispers from above Shoto, making him shift in his sleep, nuzzling his face deeper into a bed of soft hair.
“You’re going to wake them, Kyo! Besides, Todoroki-san is too busy cooking lunch to be upset with anyone right now.” Another voice that sounds a lot like Yaoyorozu whispers.
“We should wake them up already, they shouldn’t spend the first day of vacation asleep. That’s so lame.”
A sharp pain rattled Shoto’s forehead, making him gasp awake, scowling at the pain. “What the hell,” He grumbles, glaring up at the two girls, one grinning apologetically and the other mischievously.
“Morning,” Jirou mocks, flicking him again. He growls, trying to get up from the couch to inflict his own forehead flick on her when something shifts below him, clinging on tighter to his shirt.
“S-Stop movin’ so m-much,” Izuku mumbles, nuzzling his face into Shoto’s chest.
His body immediately goes slack, laying back down against the couch so Izuku could make himself more comfortable. “Sorry,” He whispers, voice soft while talking to his boyfriend.
He hears a stifled giggle coming from the pair in front of him, he quickly shoots them a sharp glare. “Go away,” Shoto frowns, wrapping Izuku up in his arms again. He’s so cute when he’s sleeping.
“No. Wake him up already, we’re going to the beach.” Jirou says, holding up a towel and some sunscreen.
Shoto blinks at them, not even noticing their swimming attire before. Jirou wore a black two piece with skulls decorating it, while Yaoyorozu wore a modest, red one piece. They’re such an odd couple.
“Fine,” He rolls his eyes, knowing he wouldn’t be able to say no. “You two can go ahead. I don’t need your help.”
Jirou scoffs, but doesn’t say anything, instead grabs Yaoyorozu’s hand and takes off towards their back entrance.
Shoto sighs, tired. Napping with Izuku is something he should do more often, he hasn’t slept this well in ages. And now he has to wake the boy up, how awful.
He hesitantly leaves a trail of soft kisses from the boy’s shoulder up to his ear, and then to his lips, placing multiple kisses there. “‘Zuku, wake up,”
Izuku stirs, face scrunching up in protest.
“D-Don’t wanna,” The boy mumbles. “You’re s-so warm a-and you smell n-nice.”
Shoto blushes, internally screaming . Sleepy Izuku is going to end up being Shoto’s favorite if he doesn’t stop acting so cute.
“We’ve spent all day inside, though. Let’s go sit in the sun for a bit, we don’t have to get in the water.” Shoto says, kissing at the corner of Izuku’s mouth until it quirks up.
“F-Fine, okay.” He giggles, hands resting on Shoto’s chest.
They get up moments later, going to their shared room, letting Izuku change into some swim trunks. Shoto tries not to freak out about Izuku’s muscles, but it’s hard not to. Izuku should not be allowed to have such duality.
“Midoriya-kun!” Yaoyorozu grins, rushing towards the pair when they exit through the back, dripping wet.
“O-Oh, hello, Yaoyorozu-san!” Izuku startles, subconsciously ( or not ) cowering behind Shoto’s shoulder a bit.
“You guys should join us in the water! It feels amazing!” She gushes, Jirou jogs up next to her, bathing suit just as wet.
“Seriously, the water is so refreshing,” The shorter girl agrees, brushing her bangs out of her face.
Izuku lets out a nervous chuckle, rubbing his neck in the same manner. “I-I don’t th-think I will today. I’ll d-definitely join you t-tomorrow, though!”
“That’s okay, you can sit under the umbrella we set up! Make sure to put on sunscreen, even if you’re in the shade!” Yaoyorozu states, proudly pointing out a propped up black umbrella sticking out of the hot sand.
“I will, th-thank you.” Izuku smiles shyly.
“How about you, Todoroki? Getting in the water?” Jirou asks, eyes glancing over at him.
Shoto blinks, not expecting to be acknowledged. He shakes his head, no. “I was gonna sit with Izuku. Keep him company.”
Yaoyorozu nods understandingly. “Very well, then. Remember what I said about the sunscreen!” She yells, running back towards the water, Jirou hot on her trail after sending them both a playful wink.
“A-Are you s-s-sure you don’t wanna g-get in? You’ve b-been wearing your s-swim trunks since th-this morning.” Izuku pouts next to him as they walk towards the umbrella.
Shoto nods, reaching over to grab one of Izuku’s hands, intertwining their fingers tightly together. “I’ll just get in with you tomorrow.”
Izuku smiles, setting down his bag next to the beach towel hidden underneath the umbrella. “Well in that case,” He says cheekily, dumping out an abundance of sand castle supplies. “Wanna help me build a city?”
Shoto laughs outright, joining him on the sand. “What should we build first, Mayor Izuku?”
By lunch time, they already have a townsquare, a hospital, and a house for themselves. Izuku was pretty adamant about making sure they have someone to live in their own town. Shoto thought it was devastatingly cute.
“Looks like you two were busy, huh?” Jirou smirks, plopping her wet self on the beach towel, wrapping herself up in a separate one.
Izuku giggles, brushing his sweaty bangs out of his eyes. “Y-You could say that. Would you and Y-Yaoyorozu-san like a p-place in our town?”
“Oooh, yes please!” As if on cue, Yaoyorozu jogs up to them, dripping wet until Jirou throws her a towel to dry off with.
Shoto smiles, scooting closer to Izuku to give the two girls more room.
“I bet Mo and I could build an even better town than the two of you.” Jirou challenges, a fire igniting in her eyes.
Shoto squints at her. “I highly doubt that. Izuku is an architectural genius.” He praises proudly, swinging an arm around his boyfriend who laughs nervously.
“Oh yeah? Well Momo can build robots!” Jirou shoots back, and Yaoyorozu splutters in embarrassment.
“ That was one time! ” She whispers harshly, cheeks heating up.
“I-It doesn’t have to be a c-competition! We c-can build our t-towns together.” Izuku tries, frowning when Shoto doesn’t seem to hear him.
“I agree with Midoriya-kun! We don’t have to compete over this, especially if it’s only you two who start these ridiculous arguments.” Yaoyorozu says, tsking at her best friend and girlfriend.
“She started it!” Shoto argues petulantly. Jirou rolls her eyes, and flips him off.
Izuku bites back a snort. Shoto pouts at him. “You’re supposed to be on my side.”
“I-I am! You g-guys are just f-funny. You a-act like siblings.” Izuku giggles.
Jiro gags next to him. “I can’t even imagine being related to this loser.”
“Okay, that’s enough. We’re going inside.” Yaoyorozu sighs, grabbing Jirou by her bicep and hauling her towards the back entrance of the house.
“What?! I was just kidding!” Jirou wails as she’s pulled back towards the house.
Izuku shakes with laughter. Shoto watches him fondly.
“Should we go back inside? Lunch should be ready.” The two toned boy suggests, looking at his boyfriend for an answer.
A loud grumble sounds from Izuku’s stomach. The boy turns bright red as Shoto lets out a fond chuckle. “Y-Yes. Food sounds g-good.”
With that, the pair reluctantly leave their unfinished city behind for the day, heading back into the house through the back entrance.
Lunch goes without problem. Shoto’s father mostly keeps to himself, which he’s absolutely grateful for. The other four teenagers discuss what they’ll do on the last day of vacation, and to his surprise Izuku even joins in on the conversation.
It makes Shoto happy to see him so carefree. He wishes it was always like this.
“I didn’t th-think it would be so c-cold during the night!” Izuku whines, hastily shoving his head through the hole of Shoto’s old hoodie that he had given him months ago. He still gets embarrassed whenever he sees Izuku wearing it. It’s too cute.
“We’re right next to the beach, of course it’s going to be cold.” Shoto chuckles, and Izuku sends him a pout. “Come here.” He says, patting the spot next to him.
Izuku immediately obliges, practically throwing himself on top of Shoto to soak up all his body heat. “You’re so w-warm!” The boy chirps happily, snuggling closer into Shoto’s body.
Shoto smiles softly, and wraps his arms around the boys waist, pulling him closer . “You’re cute.” He says quietly, pecking Izuku’s neck.
The boy squirms but says nothing, only burrowing his face closer into Shoto’s neck, sighing contentedly.
They stay silent for a minute, basking in each other’s presence and warmth. The atmosphere is so calm, Shoto swears he could fall asleep right there with Izuku in his arms.
But then…
“Shoto! Midoriya-kun! Open up!” Yaoyorozu’s voice shrills from the door of their shared room.
The pair immediately jerk to full lucidity, blinking at the direction of the noise. Shoto looks down at Izuku, who in turn is pouting sleepily. The sight does something to Shoto’s heart.
“I’ll tell her to go away, don’t worry.” He says, and Izuku rejects the idea.
“That’s so mean! Just let her come inside.” He says when Shoto asks why.
He really doesn’t want to let her in. What he wants is to be alone with his boyfriend. But of course, things never work out the way Shoto plans.
He begrudgingly gets up from his spot on the futon, and cracks the door open. “What do you want?” He says, not being able to hide the irritation in his voice.
Yaoyorozu holds up four face mask packages with a sheepish grin. “We were going to do some skin care before bed and thought you two might want to join us.”
Before Shoto can flat out decline the offer, Izuku rushes right over and pulls the door open wider to reveal himself. “I w-want to!” He gasps excitedly, already stepping out of the room to stand with Yaoyorozu. “Come on, Sh-Shoto! It’ll be fun!”
Well now he can’t really say no, can he?
He sighs softly, and follows him out the door. “Fine.”
The trio walked back to Yaoyorozu and Jirou’s room, which conveniently had a bathroom connected to it.
“They said yes!” Yaoyorozu exclaims quietly once they make it back to her room, where Jirou lays back on the bed, looking very relaxed.
“Cool. Let’s do this.” She says, punk rock as ever.
Shoto and Izuku get handed matching face mask packets. Shoto gets a cat, and Izuku gets the image of a puppy.
“It’s c-c-cold!” Izuku squeals as Yaoyorozu helps him apply the mask. Shoto watches amused and enraptured as ever.
“Yeah, sorry,” Yaoyorozu smiles softly, careful to not move her own mask. “You’ll get used to it, I promise.”
Once they all have their masks on, Yaoyorozu practically forces them to take cute couple pictures. Izuku was more than willing, which made it a bit easier for Shoto to smile for the camera.
After peeling their masks off and rinsing their faces, they both say their goodnights and head back to their room, completely exhausted.
“Th-That was fun.” Izuku mumbles into Shoto’s chest, his head being buried there for warmth or protection or just because.
“Mhm.” He agrees softly, sighing contentedly into Izuku’s hair.
“Shoto?” Izuku whispers, his fingers pulling the fabric of his shirt from the grip he had on it.
“Yes?” He whispers back.
“I-I.. I… I l-l-love y-you.” His boyfriend stutters out, burying his face deeper into Shoto’s chest, hiding away from embarrassment, probably.
Shoto’s heart feels like it’s going to burst out of his chest, it’s beating so fast . He distantly wonders if Izuku can hear it, being so close to it.
He realizes he’s been silent for far too long when Izuku tries to pull away. Shoto doesn’t let him get far. He pulls him right back in, and nestles his face into his boyfriend's neck, leaving a few affectionate kisses.
“I love you, too. So much.” He mumbles into Izuku’s skin, making the boy shiver.
That night they sleep together, and it’s peaceful and warm, and safe. Izuku always makes him feel so safe.
Shoto wonders if this is what love always feels like. Because if it is, he never wants it to go away.
