anonymous lover

Summary:

a story where a girl receives candy and a love letter everyday from her secret admirer

except she already has her heart set on someone special

lowercase intended!

Notes:

hello! this is my first time writing a fanfic of any kind so please excuse any grammar mistakes or badly written parts. i've been meaning to write something based off this idea and i finally gathered the courage to do it while in quarantine. i'll gladly accept any constructive criticism to come my way so don't hesitate to leave any. please leave a kudo and comment if u enjoy it! :)

p.s the mc’s name in this story is hyun jae since it felt more natural for me rather than using y/n. all of the characters except for namjoon and jin are a year younger bc of the age gap! this can either take place in a high school in the u.s or korea, whichever u prefer! also any sentences in italics are just the mc’s inner thoughts, just to clear it up! <3

Chapter Text

hyun jae's pov

i smiled bashfully at the pink paper in my hands, my index finger skimming past the neat handwriting written on it. pastel colored stickers decorated the edges of the letter to match the background and give it a cutesy look.

dear hyun jae,

you looked really pretty yesterday, i thought you should know that. but you look beautiful everyday so it's no surprise. you're a sight for sore eyes. i hope one day i can say these words to you face to face instead of hiding behind these letters. have a great day today and enjoy the snack i've sent u x

from your secret admirer

'snack?' i looked up at my locker again to see a small bag containing a pack of pocky and a lollipop. suddenly i felt a light weight on my shoulder and turned to see one of my best friends, hoseok, peering at me with wide eyes and a vibrant smile on his lips.

"whatcha got there, sunshine?"

with a small grin on my lips, i grabbed the bag and carefully folded the letter to save it along with my other ones.
hoseok watched me with a curious look on his face and eyed the bag in my hand.

"just another letter from lover boy, hobi." i replied.

he fished his hand inside and pulled out the candy i was saving for later. a pout formed on my lips as i watched him plop it into his mouth before i could take it away.

"hey! i was saving that for later! mr. lee's math lesson is so long and always makes me hungry."

ignoring my protest, hoseok licked the lollipop again and smiled widely.

"it's strawberry flavored, i love strawberries!", he exclaimed excitedly.

i laughed softly and grabbed my english textbook from my locker before i could forget. i could never stay mad at hoseok, or hobi as i like to call him.

"why do you call him lover boy? just say he's your secret admirer." hobi questioned.

"secret admirer sounds too weird to repeat all the time. besides, lover boy is cute. simple and cute." i muttered softly.

"i suppose. but hasn't this gone on for too long? he should gather up the courage and confess to you in person."

i stopped to process what hoseok said. it has been a few months since the first letter arrived in my locker but maybe lover boy was too shy or embarrassed. either way, pressuring him into revealing his identity would leave me feeling one of two ways. deep down, i wished the person sending me these love letters was min yoongi, my crush of two years. although we're in the same friend group, we never talked much other than a small conversation whenever jumin left his side. but i knew that was nearly impossible. he could never see me that way. i flinched when i suddenly felt hoseok's hand lightly squeeze my right cheek in between his fingers.

"earth to hyunie~" hobi said jokingly.

i softly pushed his hand away and laughed.

"sorry, i spaced out a bit. i just feel like i should wait until he's ready so i don't pressure him."

"i guess you're right."

wanting to change the subject, i looked at the giant clock above the hallway and to the direction of the entryway.

"the others should be here by now, where are they?" i questioned confusingly.

as if on cue, two familiar looking brunettes burst the doors open and looked around until they met hoseok and i's direction. immediately, they ran towards us and met us with a tightening group hug. my ears were filled with the laughter of the much taller boys and i smiled big. dorks.

"i missed you both so much!" taehyung said cutely.

i tilted my head in confusion.

"we saw each other yesterday, tae.."

taehyung pulled back from the hug and shrugged his shoulders, looking at jungkook who was sharing hoseok's lollipop with a gleeful expression.

"where's seokjin and namjoon?" i thought out loud.

jungkook spoke up this time, licking his lips to savor the taste of strawberry lingering on them.

"ah, they're filming a "day in the life" for jin's youtube channel around the school. namjoon's helping him with the camera in exchange for free dinner."

"typical jin." hobi stated and giggled.

i closed my locker gently just as the bell rang throughout the semi-empty hallway. a strong arm wrapped around my shoulder and i looked up, making eye contact with taehyung, who was walking with me towards our shared english class. seriously, who decides to take english at 8 in the morning? i hated my schedule. but that thought soon changed as i saw who was sitting behind my assigned seat in the classroom.

yoongi

even the sight of him made me go weak in the knees. his fluffy black hair rested on the top of his hair messily, almost as if he had just woken up. his lips were wrapped around a straw from his strawberry flavored milk on his desk. he wore the same school uniform as everyone else but somehow he looked different from the rest. it was like he made anything he wore look good. i walked to my seat and waved at both yoongi and jimin, who was sitting next to him with a piece of bread in hand.

"g-good morning!" i stuttered nervously.

fuck. why'd i have to stutter.

yoongi waved back with a gummy smile on his face.

double hit!

jimin replied back with a simple hello and turned to talk to hoseok, who sat on his right side. taehyung, who removed his arm from my shoulder, sat down next to my seat and asked to copy the homework from the night before. i turned to him with a scowl on my face but was met with his puppy dog eyes staring back at me. i sighed and gave him the work, i know it's bad but i also didn't want him to get scolded by our teacher.

"this is the last time i'm letting you copy, kim taehyung." i whispered while ruffling my hand through his long hair.

as i said that, jungkook's ears perked up and he ran to where taehyung was seated to do the same. they're literal idiots.

i sighed and took out my textbook and paper to copy down some notes. i felt a small tap on my shoulder and turned around, meeting my eyes with yoongis'. he gave yet another gummy smile and my heart skipped a beat.

oh my god why are you so cute?!

"i can't find my pen in my bag, do you have a spare one i can use?"

"y-yeah sure, give me a moment."

i turned around again and whipped out my keroppi pen from my pouch.

maybe he won't like it but it's the only one i have..

my eyes met his again and i shyly offered it to him.

"is this okay? it's the only pen i have besides this one."

i twirled my kuromi pen in my hand to show him.

"of course it's okay. besides, he's one of my favorite characters!"

my eyes widen a bit at his words. who would've thought that he's a sanrio fan? i blushed and was about to reply until the teacher's voice was heard throughout the room. quickly, i turned around to pay attention to the lesson but heard yoongi and jimin's hushed voices behind me.

"why'd you ask her for a pen? you already have yours in your bag.."

"shut up jiminie!"

oh?
