He tried not to think about Icarus. About hubris, but it nagged at him all the same.
They almost made it out, didn't they? Imagining what they'd do when they escaped. Entrusting his fate to the rest of the group.
Telling the truth, for once.
He didn't know when to quit, but there was one more thing he wanted to accomplish. To get a little bit closer. To reach the sun before it burned out and everything went dark.
Instead of wings, it was his whole body. He was melting, and there would be no way to shape him back together again this time. Hot red wax poured from the holes in his body and onto the computer's complicated control panel.
Light flooded the hidden room. Soon, Joe Tazuna's alarmed gaze was all he could see. The AI was working, and it pitied him.
"H-Hey, you're hurt! Is there someone around that can help you? You gotta stop that bleeding or..!"
Sou smiled, satisfied.
"When you see her..." He rasped, a mouth full of embers. Tears stung the corners of his eyes. "Tell Miss Sara one last lie for me..."
"That I was really cool in the end, maybe..."
