Chapter Text

🎶 I got the good side of things

Left you with both of the rings

My fingers danced and swayed in the breeze

The change in the wind took you down to your knees 🎶

yoongi danced and swayed to the sound of the music. the loud beats and sweaty bodies surrounding him made him feel high, it was simply euphoric.

his heart was pumping, the adrenaline rushed through his veins.

and damn, it never felt so good.

he never felt this much thrill and excitement in such a long time.

what has he been doing the past few years?

he suddenly felt like he missed so much. he knew he used to be the life of the party, where has he been all this time?

forgetting whatever thoughts he had in his mind, yoongi eventually brushed himself through the dancing bodies and reached for the bar.

“haven’t seen you in a while, man.” the man behind the bar greeted yoongi with a smile.

“yeah, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?” yoongi didn’t know what else to say, tapping and fidgeting aimlessly on the counter with one hand, and resting his head on the other.

“irish bomb?”

yoongi could not help but to smile.

“irish bomb.”

there was a moment of comfortable silence, and yoongi can’t help but to be grateful.

yoongi felt that that even after all these years, this stranger understood him, even at some degree.

but really, this club used to be yoongi’s safe place, and the boy right in front of him has witnessed some of his weird endeavors and strange encounters.

yoongi didn’t know him, but it felt just like it.

but it wasn’t like that for the past few years, he hasn’t been in this place for the past few years, and seeing this boy kind of hit him with how things were in the past.

while waiting for his drink, yoongi quietly observed his surroundings.

it was like any other club, with the dancing, with the music, and with everything there was to it. nothing seemed to change.

for a moment, yoongi was relieved. it kind of felt like he didn’t miss anything, despite how much time passed. everything felt so familiar and just so constant.

and at that moment, yoongi felt like it was special, despite it feeling so normal, it greatly reminded him of the old times.

how great they were, indeed.

yoongi can’t help but to compare it to how he was now. if he hadn’t chosen to be with —

interrupting his train of thoughts, the bartender placed his drink on the counter.

“on the house, my treat.” the boy behind the bar uttered with a cheeky smile.

yoongi chuckled, shaking his head.

“brat, if you do this every single time i come here, you’ll just end up being broke.”

“well, it’s been years since you last came, i think i’ve managed to save up for at least..” the bartender momentarily paused and calculated with his fingers, letting out a hum while pretending to analyze and organize his thoughts.

“fifteen more of your visits, considering your order happens to be one of the expensive ones.”

“then stop giving them to me for free, man, how are you even not fired at the rate you are going?”

“considering i haven’t had any on the house specials since you last came, i think i’m good.”

yoongi scoffed, muttering a why do you even bother. but the bartender didn’t seem to notice any of his mumbling.

not knowing what else to say, he took the chance to down his drink in one go.

just like how he predicted, it tasted so so much like the old times, when things were much easier.

when he partied with his friends,

when he stressed and fussed about some research paper in college,

when he struggled  with paying the monthly rent and his landlord would nag him everyday for it,

(he knew the old lady had a soft spot for him, anyway)

before he met —

but midway through his drink, he caught sight of the barista’s smile faltering ever so slightly. it was just for a second, but it was there.

yoongi raised his brows, signaling the bartender to speak whatever it was on his mind. the boy composed himself rather too quickly, but spoke anyway.

“damn, now i know what kept you busy.”

he was looking directly at his left hand, his ring finger to be specific.

it was there. the shining piece of silver that suddenly reminded him of what he left at home.

he wanted to forget, even just for a night. but as always, there’s always an indication of him wherever he went.

but he felt so guilty for thinking even for the slightest second that maybe, he should’ve taken the ring off of his finger.

even for just one night.

it wouldn’t be too bad, right?

just one night.

the boy probably sensed his discomfort and decided to change the direction of where their conversation was going.

yoongi can’t exactly explain or decipher exactly what they were talking about, but it seemed to drone for hours and hours.

there was laughter, they were saying the most random and stupidest of things, but it felt nice.

he didn’t notice the time.

and he definitely didn’t notice the 10 missed calls and 42 unread messages weighing heavily in his phone.

(or maybe he did, he just didn’t want another reminder of what was waiting for him back at home.)

but yoongi was aware that the night was ending, and he had to go back.

go back to his home.

go back to jimin.

he had to remind himself so often these past few days.

jimin is his home.

he should always remember, never forget.

with this in mind, yoongi abruptly stood up from the bar stool and bid a quick goodbye to the bartender.

but before he could leave, the bartender grabbed his wrist, forcing him to look back at him. he was looking at him straight in the eyes, waiting for the right moment to speak up.

“by the way, it’s jungkook.”

after all these years,

after all the witnessed endeavors,

after all the drunken nights,

he finally got a name.

jungkook.

and yoongi smiles.
