Work Text:
The whole Conspiracy in of itself starts with Midoriya Izuku. Though given that the whole “are you All Might’s Secret love child or something?” thing, maybe it wasn’t that much of a surprise. In the grand scheme of the universe, the Balance, or whatever have you, it makes sense that Midoriya, the subject of blatant conspiracy theory by Todoroki Shouto, would be the first person within the Conspiracy.
Izuku discovers the hero conspiracy theory podcast that Todoroki keeps from the rest of the class late in his first year at UA. It’s late at night. For once, it’s just regular old insomnia keeping him up late. So, in order to relax, he’s scrolling for podcast recommendations on his phone. He’s, unfortunately, up to date on his usual mix of quirk theory, hero news, and true crime podcasts.
(Many would probably side eye the whole true crime podcast thing, but he finds listening to people talk about cases that are hundreds of years old oddly soothing. Never mind that the Class A’s entire time at UA will be turned into an epic podcast several years post-graduation, which will spawn a documentary TV series. But that’s a mess in and of itself along with being a problem for future Number One hero, Deku.
First year Izuku should definitely not envy that guy. Future Izuku’s got more than ninety-nine problems to deal with and like forty-nine of them are the media.)
Like any teenager with a good wifi connection and serious podcast addiction, he looks for recommendations. Hidden away in a post on one of his favorite hero forums, he finds the mention of Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner.
BestJurtlist:
And this is a pretty new podcast, all things considered, but you should check out Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner. I can’t tell if this guy is serious or a massive troll that the world has ever seen, but either way he comes out with some wildly out there conspiracy theories about popular heroes. His episodes are usually 15 to 20 mins, which makes my AM commute way more hilarious than it needs to be. He has about 10 eps up and I seriously recommend it.
My favorite episode is his theory that Miruko is a wererabbit.
With that shining recommendation, Izuku looks up Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner and decides to give it a listen. It takes him approximately five minutes into the first episode to realize that, underneath the badly disguised voice, a) Mysterio is Todoroki and b) oh God he has more of these conspiracy theories what the fuck. When does he even do all this recording?! And how does no one know?
Izuku binge listens to all twenty of the available episodes and doesn’t sleep that night.
He needs to know who else knows about this.
Izuku loves his friends very much, but the class gossips they are not. He, however, also does not want to run into Kacchan either. So he patiently waits for the perfect moment that he can corner Kaminari and Ashido when Kacchan and Todoroki are not in the same room as them.
It takes about two days, but Ashido and Kaminari get Saturday afternoon cleaning duty of the dorms in lieu of a detention by Aizawa-sensei. So, when the others go out after classes on Saturday for crepes, Izuku begs off and walks back to the dorms with the pair.
Now Izuku’s conversational skills admittedly need some work, but the great thing about his class is that people don’t really care if he has the social graces of a drunk elephant. After walking with Ashido and Kaminari, who are complaining about dorm cleaning duty and begging Kirishima over video chat for crepes, he tentatively brings things up.
“Um…so…”
Ashido and Kaminari turn to look him, but, thankfully, they wait for him to gather his thoughts for him to speak.
“Did you guys know about Todoroki’s podcast?” he asks quietly and winces. It sounds like such a violation of Todoroki’s trust! But he has to know if others know or if he’s the only who knows, you know? Maybe he should have thought this through before going to Ashido and Kaminari though?
“Todoroki has a podcast?!” yelps Kaminari. Ashido’s eyes go wide and excited.
“What’s it called, Mido-kun?!”
“Mysterio’s Conspiracy Coroner,” sighs Izuku, knowing that the battle is lost. “I found it. And he uses a vocal disguiser. So…we need to let him know that we don’t know.”
“A conspiracy from the conspiracy theorist?” Ashido gasps, clapping her hands together. “Mido-kun, we haven’t heard about this. But this is amazing! I have to listen to it.”
Kaminari nods eagerly, “Don’t worry, dude. Ashido and I won’t let Todoroki know that we know, right?”
Ashido nods, curly pink hair flying everywhere at the motion before they rush off to the dorms, leaving Izuku behind. He scratches the back of his head and winces.
“Neither of them said anything about keeping it from the others though,” Izuku mutters to himself.
This is going to be A Thing isn’t it?

Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner

It definitely becomes A Thing amongst Class 1-A, much to Izuku’s unending embarrassment. Ashido and Kaminari do keep their word though, and they never tell Todoroki what they know. Somehow, they get the rest of the class in on keeping what they know from Todoroki as well, even Kacchan.
(How? Izuku remains baffled about it well into adulthood. Seriously, in the future, Number One Hero and Symbol of Hope, Deku, will be randomly going about his day and then BAM! Like the embarrassing thing you did when you were twelve, you know the one, the bafflement over Ashido and Kaminari getting Kacchan to keep quiet about the podcast will just overcome him and make him stop in his tracks.)
Everyone, however, also becomes a fan about Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner. At the very least, most of them can applaud Todoroki’s clearly insane logic. Like most of the internet, they cannot tell if Todoroki is a) genuine or b) the most massive troll in the world. Either way, Class 1-A waits with bated breath for the next episode.
And it’s kind of funny, after a while, there’s some sort of irony in it, keeping a conspiracy from a conspiracy theorist. Either way, they all subscribe and try to keep quite on Sunday mornings, which is when they figured out that Todoroki records his episodes.

Class 1-A never means for the conspiracy to extend past their class, let alone to the teachers. Aizawa Shouta, however, knows and sees all. So, honestly, they probably should have expected him learning about Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner sooner rather than later.
Not that Shouta plans on doing anything about it. He overhears Satou and Hagaruke debating the latest episode as they work on decorating some cookies for Eri. As with most things in his life, the lack of his student’s situational awareness leads to him learning some fascinating information.
(Though, part of him, is glad that they let their guard down in the dorms. It means they feel safe there. But, still, heroes-in-training should practice maintaining such awareness for longer periods of time. Shouta mentally makes a note to add more training in that area in the future before making his presence known.)
Still, the fact that one of his students, Todoroki of all people, running a podcast on hero conspiracy theories nags at Shouta for most of the day. Since he has the night off from patrol, after Shouta does his rounds around the dorm and says goodnight to Eri, he sprawls out on the bed next to Hizashi and brings up Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner.
“What’cha listening to, Sho?” his husband asks, glancing up from his tablet where there’s scheduling for his radio show for the next month on there.
“Todoroki has a podcast,” Shouta answers. “Apparently everyone in class knows about it, but they’re not telling him they know for some reason.”
“Probably because they think he’ll be embarrassed. The listener seems like a pretty private person, all things considered.”
Of course, it’s his hellions wave of showing that they care. Either way, Shouta flicks through the episodes and pauses on one, snorting.
“Is Present Mic actually a banshee pretending to have a quirk?” he reads out loud. Hizashi looks up from his work, blinks, and lets out a gleeful cackle.
“Oh this I have to hear,” he says, putting his tablet away.
Soon after, the conspiracy extends to most of the teachers.
critcritnat20 reblogged from hella-mouth
so i was thinking about MCC today during class AS ONE DOES and i kind of like that his identity, in and of itself, seems like hella a conspiracy
like people have their speculations, but i hope mysterio takes his identity to the grave because half of the MCC is just long rants about who exactly mysterio is and at this point everyone is just too afraid to outright ask them
but, also, i don’t think mysterio is all might trying to fill his retirement in new and inventive ways and, yes, this is a hill I will die on
#mcc, #mysterio conspiracy corner, #its not the best hill to die on, #but its the one I picked

The first night Shinsou Hitoshi stays in the Class 2-A dorms, he’s brought in on the conspiracy by Midoriya and Iida. At first, when they knock on the door to Hitoshi’s room, he thinks that it’s Midoriya coming by on his determined one-man friendship bandwagon and Iida is the class rep.
Nothing really raises red flags. Hitoshi has, also, apparently forgotten that Class A of the Hero course is insane.
“Can we come in, Shinsou-kun?” Midoriya asks with bright smile. Iida stands ramrod straight next to him and fixes his glasses. Hitoshi blinks and stands aside to let them in.
“Welcome to Class 2-A, Shinsou!” Iida says with a perfect ninety-degree bow. “As class representative, two years running, I am here to give the unofficial official ground rules for the dorm!”
Hitoshi nods, “Okay?”
Midoriya chuckles, “It’s nothing too bad, just some expansion of the regular school rules. And notes on everyone’s little ticks. Once you get settled in, I’m sure some will be added about you.”
Iida nods and chops the air with his hand, “There is also one rule that is not placed on paper that Midoriya-kun and I are here to talk with you about!”
“What? Is there some kind of underground snack food ring?” This was common for the General Education Department.
“What?” the two hero course students say.
“What?” Hitoshi says back, keeping his expression blank.
The three of them stare at each other for several moments before Midoriya speaks again.
“It’s about T-Todoroki-kun’s podcast.”
“And how we must keep it from him that we know about it!”
Hitoshi stares at the two for a moment. He counts backwards from ten in his head before looking at them.
“Say what now?”
What the hell. Are all hero course students this crazy? Or is this something Hitoshi himself will also be infected with?
(The answer turns out to be a big yes.)

7) Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner
Love heroes? Want to hear some of the most off the wall conspiracy theories about them out there? We’re not talking about chemtrails or the Illumnati here. No, in Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner, we get artisanal conspiracy theories such as Fatgum being a stuffed animal given life ala Pinocchio to, the only proven true theory ever covered, Endeavor being an actual burning trash fire.
Truly, Mysterio works in mysterious ways.
The conspiracy of keeping their knowledge from Shouto continues into their years as pro heroes. Izuku doesn’t know how Shouto finds the time to record his episodes, but he finds it all the same. Twice a month, there are new episodes of Mysterio’s Conspiracy Corner unleashed onto the world.
Class A, however, remains dedicated in keeping their traps shut about knowing that Shouto is doing the podcast. It’s possibly a bit cult like at this point, Izuku reflects, but no one wants to be the one who breaks and tells Shouto.
Besides, there are other worries to handle. Though, as is tradition, he does inform Ki, officially adopted by Class A, about Shouto’s secret identity and asks her to keep it quiet. She blinks at him slowly.
“Is…is this some kind of weird adult thing I’m not getting?” she asks.
At this point, Izuku doesn’t understand it either, but he nods. Hopefully, in a couple of years, when she will inevitably ask again, he’ll have a better answer for her.
From the privates notes of Todoroki Shouto
Need to talk to the merch provider about getting a new design for the next Mysterio hoodie. Would ask Yaomomo, but she and Class A both think they’re keeping the fact that the know about the podcast from me. And at this point, I refuse to tell them that I know that they know and are trying to keep it a secret from me.
It’s the principle of the matter at this point.
Dabi’s been in art therapy though for his rehab. Maybe he can help with the next design?
