Work Text:
It wasn’t uncommon to find Sayaka in the Student Council room well after school hours either filing paperwork or reading through formal complaint reports from house pets. Such was expected of the Student Council Secretary. It wasn’t like she had any complaints about her position or what she did. In fact, she willingly took extra time out of her day to do her duties. Anything to please the Student Council President who also just happened to be the girl she loved.
Sayaka and Kirari had shared some of their feelings towards one another before, both finding that their feelings were mutual. However since that wonderfully beautiful evening, neither had exactly come to terms about where they stood in their relationship. Not that Sayaka would blame Kirari, she would never. The President was far too busy throughout the week to even address whimsical thoughts of romance.
Though Sayaka understood Kirari’s responsibilities since she herself had her own responsibilities as the Secretary, her heart yearned for more time to be alone with Kirari and possibly figure out just what their relationship was. If she had it her way, she would spend every moment of every day with the President and it didn’t matter what they did. As long as she always remained at her side.
She at least knew Kirari’s feelings toward her were far from platonic, especially after all the teasing, longing glances, and even occasional stolen cheek or hand kisses in empty hallways. Unfortunately, the President wasn’t always the best at showing her emotions. Unless explicitly shown through physical affection, Sayaka had no read on Kirari’s emotions or intentions. She either wore a bored expression or an amused expression, there wasn’t really any in-between.
Sayaka found herself spending more time working late after school, though recently not just to please the President. When everyone was in their dorms sleeping, she would be in the dimly lit student council room typing or writing away. She couldn’t find herself to sleep much anymore. She would lay awake in bed, staring up at her ceiling with her thoughts only focused on Kirari.
Sure she has had restless nights like that before, but ever since that fateful night at the Tower of Doors where feelings were confessed and lives nearly lost, Sayaka found sleeping to be bothersome. Since she couldn’t fall asleep, she decided that she may as well get up and work on something, anything. So on average, the Secretary only received around two to four hours of sleep every night.
Tonight was no different, even though it was a weekend. She glanced over at the clock that ticked on the wall above Kirari’s prized fish tank and saw that it was midnight. Typically, she would take a break from writing or reading at midnight whether it be to drink some water or just get up and stretch. However, she remained glued to her seat, continuing to work.
‘Just a few more minutes,’ she thought to herself. ‘Then I suppose I’ll take a break.’
As she continued to file, she heard the unmistakable sound of the door opening from across the room. Suddenly standing up and reaching for her taser hidden on the seat next to her, she awaited for the unknown person to get closer. The footsteps sounded light, likely belonging to a female. And it was.
Sayaka blinked upon seeing who it was and immediately bowed in respect. “P-President! Good evening.”
“My, my,” Kirari pouted. “It’s awfully late for you to be up and about.”
“I… I would say the same for you, President,” Sayaka responded, trying to figure out why Kirari was awake.
“I do believe I’ve mentioned you are not to call me President when it is after school hours,” Kirari frowned.
Sayaka’s violet eyes looked toward the fish tank, avoiding Kirari’s gaze. “My apologies, Kirari. Just a habit.”
Kirari faked a yawn. “Aren’t you tired?”
Sayaka sighed. “There is much to be done, so here I am.”
“You didn’t answer the question, my dear Sayaka,” Kirari mused. “Aren’t you tired?”
“It doesn’t matter if I’m tired or not. Work must be done,” Sayaka responded monotone.
Kirari knew something was off, especially now. She had sensed it for a couple of weeks seeing as how her typically flustered and humble Secretary had suddenly started to act sluggish and even passive-aggressive. Most students would chalk it up to high stress, but Kirari knew better than anyone that Sayaka could handle high stress quite well. This was something different. The prominent dark circles under Sayaka’s eyes confirmed it for her.
Kirari approached Sayaka, placing a gentle hand on her cheek and forced her to look her way. “A blind man could tell you’re tired, Sayaka.”
Sayaka blushed from the sudden physical touch from her beloved but deflated once she heard her words. She placed a hand on the President’s, softly pushing it off. “You’re right, I am tired, but it doesn’t matter if I can’t sleep.”
This was new to Kirari. Sayaka had never rejected physical affection before. Now she was growing a bit concerned and she was going to get to the bottom of whatever was eating at her Secretary.
“And why can’t you sleep?” Kirari pressed.
“I... I’m not sure,” Sayaka lied. “I just can’t. I’ve tried medications and melatonin infused teas, but they don’t work. I’m not sure what will.”
Kirari pondered on this for a few moments. “Take a walk with me.”
“But-”
“Please, dearest,” Kirari interjected.
That one pet name was all it took for Sayaka to be up on her feet. Her movements were slow, however. Her body ached from the lack of sleep. She tried her best to hide it from Kirari, but she knew how easy it was for the President to notice even the smallest changes.
Leaving the Student Council room, she noticed Kirari lock the door once they exited. She had a feeling Kirari wouldn’t permit her to return to her work that night. A part of her was relieved, but the other part was annoyed knowing that Kirari would probably send her to her dorm to try and rest. She knew that was pointless for she would return to her dorm and stare at her ceiling listening to the snores of her dorm mate until the sun came up.
“Are we almost where we need to be? Where are we even going?” Sayaka demanded lightly as they walked across the school's main walkway.
“Impatient, that’s unlike you, Sayaka,” Kirari chuckled. “We’re going somewhere where you can breathe a little and hopefully let me into that beautiful mind of yours to see what’s bothering you.”
Sayaka opened her mouth to respond, but instantly shut it when she felt Kirari’s hand interlace with hers. She was certain her hands were cold and stiff due to all of the writing in the chilled Student Council room. Though she didn’t feel Kirari’s grip loosen, it only tightened in assurance.
It was almost haunting to see the schoolyard this late at night. No students were roaming around which added to the eerie setting. The only lights that lit up the campus were the stars and moon in the sky. Sayaka didn’t feel any uneasy emotions, however. With Kirari holding her hand like this, she could die happy.
Blatantly passing the dorms and much more of the campus, Kirari led them to a closed-off area of the school that used to be reserved for the upperclassman. Now, it was an empty area forbidden to everyone on campus. Everyone except the President. The space was beautifully kept, with a sweet fragrance from the cherry blossom trees surrounding the area. A large water fountain was in the center of the space and the water that flowed from it was crystal clear, almost tempting enough to drink from.
Sayaka had never even known this part of the campus had existed but wasn’t at all surprised that Kirari knew it did.
“This place is beautiful,” Sayaka commented.
“It’s where I come to think about nothing… or everything. Everyone in the Student Council has their own personal space to themselves, as you know,” Kirari explained calmly. “This is mine.”
Sayaka was actually the only member of the Student Council without her own designated office or area. She had politely declined the offer from Kirari since she knew most of her time would be spent with the President anyway, and that though she shared a dorm, she had her own room which she used for her alone time.
“I suppose this is where we’ll be talking?” Sayaka asked with a sigh.
“We don’t have to talk if you really don’t want to. I'll never force you to do something you're uncomfortable with,” Kirari assured, taking a seat on the wide wooden bench near the water fountain. She lightly patted the spot next to her, beckoning Sayaka to join her.
Sayaka inhaled and exhaled, sitting down next to the girl she loved.
“Now tell me, or don’t, but I know something is bothering you. I can’t stand seeing you in this state,” Kirari admitted.
“If I tell you, you may not be very happy with me,” Sayaka lamented.
Kirari placed a loving hand on Sayaka’s. “I am here to listen. In this instance, my emotions won’t matter. You’re all that I care about at the moment.”
“Well… alright,” Sayaka sighed. “My problem is you.”
Kirari perhaps expected anything else but that. She won’t deny those last four words pierced her heart like a poisonous arrow, but she remained silent and gave no indication of her hurt feelings.
“Every moment I close my eyes when I try to rest, I see your face,” Sayaka continued. “My thoughts are only focused on you during the late hours of the night. How could I fall asleep with you on my mind? Normally I wouldn’t consider that an issue so much as a wonderful blessing, but… I’m uncertain of our relationship and that’s what truly eats at my soul at night. What... are we? What am I to you, Kirari?”
Kirari stared at her for several moments before giggling gently, confusing Sayaka more than ever. The look on Sayaka’s face was even more priceless and caused the President to burst out laughing. Awkwardly, Sayaka laughed as well, not finding the humor in this at all.
“That’s what you’re so concerned about?” Kirari wiped a tear away due to her heavy laughter. “Oh Sayaka, I thought I made it clear that my feelings towards you are mutual. Wouldn’t that automatically make you my significant other?”
Sayaka pouted and crossed her arms childishly. “How was I supposed to know? You’ve never said how you truly felt other than the feelings were mutual.”
“I’m afraid I’ll need an example. Why don’t you tell me how you feel about me first,” Kirari suggested with a smirk. “Although I have a feeling I already know. It’s written all over your face whenever I enter the same room as you.”
Sayaka blushed heavily and looked away briefly, but then looked back. “I’m… I’m in love with you, Kirari. I have been since the moment you hired me as your Secretary. You’re perfect and beautiful in every way, sharing only your true self with those you trust the most. I’m delighted to admit I’m one of those people and I’m grateful I’ve gotten to know you. But whatever our relationship is now, I want it to go further. I want to be yours forever.”
Hearing such a heartfelt confession surely would have made anyone tear up or smile with joy. Kirari, however, looked amused as if she had known this all along. She had, of course, but she had been waiting for Sayaka to finally admit it. She was a patient woman after all.
Without warning, Kirari practically pounced on her Secretary, gently pinning her down on the bench and placing a knee in between the younger girl’s legs. With a slight yelp, Sayaka blinked rapidly at the girl on top of her. She was almost certain she would die right then and there, just like she almost did on the crash mat in the field of white lily flowers. Except this time, she just might. There was no gamble involved, no thrill from jumping off of a tower, this was exclusively Kirari showing Sayaka her feelings.
Kirari brushed a loose strand of hair out of Sayaka’s heavily flushed face. “I’ve told you many times, yet here I am saying it again: I find you utterly fascinating. I have never met someone who is such a complete opposite of myself, someone willing to risk everything for me and willing to become a complete stranger to me, even in death. Most would think you’re insane, honestly.”
“A-and what do you think?” Sayaka gasped, feeling Kirari’s knee drift a little higher.
Sayaka’s thoughts halted once she felt the soft and warm lips of Kirari moving against hers. Any thought of denial or doubt instantly melted away the moment Kirari’s lips pressed against hers. Sayaka had always been a fast learner and seeing how this was her first kiss, she made sure to learn the movements quickly. Driven by sheer instinct, she wrapped her arms around Kirari’s neck, earning a moan of approval from her.
The taste of Kirari’s mouth, the touch of her tongue that grew bolder by the second, Sayaka couldn't help but graciously drown in the overwhelming sensation her body felt. She had never felt so warm before, unsure of who’s body was the cause though both was a fair assumption. Feeling the heat pool between her legs, Sayaka hoped and prayed that Kirari would answer her prayers, but gasped at the sudden loss of heat. She felt her partner suddenly rise off of her and sit down next to her, calmly crossing her legs as if nothing had happened.
Sayaka remained laying down for a good minute, her brain trying to process what had just happened. It almost seemed impossible that Kirari had just made out with her and not even in the privacy of a locked room. Not that anyone was awake to see what had just occurred or even knew this section of the campus existed.
“That’s one of my favorite things about you. You’re a high risk-taker whether you think so or not, yet you’re a completely different risk-taker than me. That is what I find so fascinating about the girl I love,” Kirari explained, acting completely unfazed from the kiss.
Sayaka bolted upright, not believing the last words she heard. “L-love?”
“Perhaps our little kiss wasn’t affirming enough for you,” Kirari chuckled. “But yes, I do love you. I’m in love with you as well. As I have once said before, the feeling is very much mutual. With that said, would you be my girlfriend, Sayaka?”
Sayaka couldn’t remember ever feeling this joyful, not a single memory of hers even held a candlelight to what Kirari just said to her. Or rather, what she just asked her.
“Yes, yes of course!” Sayaka cried almost too loudly. “Does… this mean I can be openly affectionate with you?”
Kirari nodded. “Within reason, of course. I’d rather not have us make out during a meeting. Though if you’d care to explore something like that in the future, I’d be happy to oblige.”
“K-Kirari!” Sayaka blushed an entirely new shade of crimson.
Kirari ignored the chance to tease her new lover and instead decided to address the issue at hand. “Now as your new girlfriend, I must ensure that you are happy, healthy, and safe. Two of those things I can be assured of, but one of them has yet to be confirmed. Receiving only a couple hours of sleep each night is far from considered healthy, my love,” Kirari explained.
“Midari,” Sayaka huffed under her breath, realizing her dorm mate was the likely culprit behind Kirari knowing this.
“Very perceptive,” Kirari grinned. “Yes, our one-eyed friend was more than happy to share that information with me a couple days ago. It was just a matter of me needing to figure out why you were getting such little sleep and now I know.”
“I doubt I’ll suddenly be able to fall asleep,” Sayaka lamented. “Even now that I know what our relationship is.”
“Might I make a suggestion?” Kirari asked kindly.
Sayaka nodded. “Always.”
"Sleep with me," Kirari responded simply.
Sayaka blinked at her in shock, mouth agape. “This early in our relationship?! I can't say I'm opposed to it, I… I’m just not sure how that will help me sleep. It may tire me out sure, but-”
“My, what a dirty imagination you have, Sayaka!” Kirari laughed, interrupting her. “No, I wasn’t referring for you to sleep with me in that way. Those plans are for later when you are well-rested and have plenty of stamina.”
Sayaka wanted to crawl in a hole and die from embarrassment at that moment. What else would Kirari mean by suggesting to sleep with her? Certainly not having-
“Then you mean sleeping with you… in your room, in your bed?” Sayaka asked slowly.
“Yes,” Kirari nodded.
“Is that even allowed?”
Kirari smirked. “To the rest of the school population, no it’s not. As for me, well, I’m the President. Besides, what rules would we technically be breaking? You’re just a girl in another girl’s dorm room, that isn’t against the rules. No one is aware of our relationship either.”
Sneaky as that was, Kirari was correct in saying that no rules would technically be broken. Many of the girls would often spend the night in each other's dorm whether they were working on a project or spent the entire night gambling. It wasn’t unheard of and was a fairly common occurrence.
“A-alright then,” Sayaka stuttered. “I just hope I’ll actually fall asleep.”
“I'm confident you will,” Kirari kissed her girlfriend’s forehead.
Kirari’s dorm was a place none of the students, except for the Vice President who was her dorm mate, were allowed to even view. It was a secured portion of the campus with a special key card that only granted access to the two sisters occupying the dorm. Sayaka had never even hoped in her wildest fantasies that she’d ever step foot in an almost sacred place.
Yet there she was, entering the President’s dorm as an honored guest. Not much could be seen due to the darkness until a light flickered on. The Vice President stood at one of the doorways to what Sayaka assumed to be her bedroom, rubbing her eyes groggily. Seeing Ririka without her white smiling mask was rare and Sayaka was almost surprised to see her in that state.
One thing she couldn’t ever figure out was how people could never distinguish the difference between Kirari and Ririka. There was a staggering difference in her eyes, even with Kirari’s braids down. Yes, the two sister’s facial features were strikingly similar, but since their personalities were so far from each other, it was easy to tell who was who just based off of expressions alone.
“Kirari, it’s late. Why are you-” Ririka froze mid-sentence upon seeing Sayaka. “Is there a problem that the Student Council needs to address at this hour?”
“Not at all, Ririka. Sayaka will just be spending the night with me,” Kirari responded calmly.
Ririka’s brows furrowed. “Do I dare ask doing what?”
“Sleeping with me of course,” Kirari said as if the answer were obvious.
Ririka’s face turned bright red, as did Sayaka’s. Kirari meant no other intentions than actual sleep, but apparently Ririka took it the same way Sayaka did earlier.
“I… don’t know what to say to that,” Ririka squeaked shyly.
Kirari frowned. “Oh come now, you have slept with Mary many times! How is this any different?”
Sayaka wanted this conversation to end immediately. “K-Kirari, I think-”
“We made sure no one was in the same dorm! And it was only once, Kirari,” Ririka defended before Sayaka could finish.
“Oh? But I’ve seen you fall asleep on each other during break, unless… Oh," Kirari smiled wickedly. "Well, it appears you and Sayaka both have a similar sinful mentality.”
Out of embarrassment, Ririka bowed her head and apologized, quickly returning to her room without another word. Kirari was laughing. Sayaka needed to remind Kirari later that most people saw "sleeping together" as something totally differently than she did.
Sayaka huffed. “Was that really necessary?”
“Absolutely! It’s been a while since I’ve seen my innocent sister so flustered! Although now I suppose she isn’t too innocent, wouldn’t you agree?” Kirari smiled.
"I-I suppose it was a bit funny to see her blush like that," Sayaka admitted. "Though she was right, it is late. Shall we try to sleep?"
"You stole the words right from my mouth," Kirari agreed.
Sayaka always dreamed that Kirari's bedroom looked nothing short of what someone descended from royalty would have. She was surprised to see how plane looking her room was. It was much like that of any other student's room aside from a few antiques, a much larger bed, and almost twice the space. She had spent the night with Kirari before, once on a school excursion. However, that case was different since Kirari was in the bed next to her at the hotel they stayed at. This time they would be sharing the same bed.
Sayaka didn't even notice Kirari begin to strip from her clothes right in front of her. Her brain nearly short-circuited for a moment, seeing the exposed skin of her nearly-naked girlfriend and quickly looked away in embarrassment.
"I know you were looking," Kirari announced. "I wouldn't be changing in front of you if I wasn't comfortable with you seeing me in this state. Although if you are uncomfortable, I will gladly turn around while you change."
Sayaka tilted her head in confusion, still refusing to turn around. "Um, change? Into what, exactly?"
"It's too late for you to collect something from your dorm, so I'll let you borrow one of my nightgowns," Kirari offered.
Sayaka in Kirari's clothing? This must have not been real. Surly Sayaka was still in the Student Council room and fell asleep. She had to have been dreaming. But the kiss she shared with Kirari earlier was so real, she knew she was very much awake.
“T-thank you, Kirari,” Sayaka whispered.
True to her word, Kirari turned around when Sayaka began to change. She found it humorous how self-conscious Sayaka was when it came to changing, especially since they were both girls and eventually they’d see each other on full display.
After finishing their nightly routines, Kirari was the first to climb into bed, turning off the lamp on her nightstand. She watched Sayaka who stood at the edge of the bed, awkwardly staring at the empty space next to her. Maybe Sayaka was waiting for permission, even though it was pointless considering where she was.
“Aren’t you going to join me?” Kirari asked, patting the spot next to her.
“Yes, sorry, I’m just not used to seeing you like this,” Sayaka admitted, tightly gripping the hem of her borrowed nightgown.
Sayaka always knew Kirari was beautiful, but something about her with her braids let down and face clear of makeup made her even more beautiful. She wasn’t even sure that was humanly possible. Perhaps that was it, Kirari wasn’t human. She was a goddess who had seduced her from the moment their eyes met. If that were true, Sayaka considered herself to be the luckiest girl alive.
Kirari’s aquamarine eyes twinkled. “You’re still standing there. I’m feeling quite cold and I was hoping you would warm me up.”
Hesitantly, Sayaka joined her in bed and her girlfriend pulled the covers over them. Her expression looked as though she had done this a thousand times before. Sayaka had no idea how Kirari’s heart wasn’t beating fast like hers was.
“Sayaka?” Kirari whispered softly.
“Huh? I-I mean yes?” Sayaka stumbled over her words.
Kirari placed an arm around her, pulling her close. Sayaka’s head was now between the crook of her girlfriend’s neck. “Relax. Try to sleep… for me.”
It was almost like an invisible force was making Sayaka feel suddenly drowsy. Or perhaps it was because she felt safe in Kirari’s arms. Whatever it was, she knew she would finally fall asleep and get the rest she so desperately needed for the past weeks. The last thing she felt before nodding off was Kirari’s warm lips pressing against her forehead.
