Chapter 1: I'll regret this when i'm sober

Chapter Text

Chuuya isn’t the fondest of cruise ships. Or ships. Or maybe just boats in general. After all, you’re just paying a few extra yen to be on water for something you could experience in any high-end hotel on land. Plus you could get seasick and that’d suck considering that you’re on vacation.

Which is why when Chuuya heard two weeks ago that their company’s planning a cruise vacation by the end of the month, he tried his best to convince his superiors to just allow him to relax at home.

And it failed. Obviously. Because right now he’s at a fully-paid suite with access to all of the ship’s amenities. An employee would usually thank his boss for an all expense paid trip but in Chuuya’s case, he’d like to complain

As he unpacks his suitcase filled with clothes for the next four days, three knocks were heard on the door, followed by the ding of the doorbell.

“Yes?” Chuuya asks when he opened the door, revealing Higuchi, one of his kouhais.

“Good afternoon, Chuuya-san. The boss wanted to tell you that he’ll be holding a party for all employees at ballroom three later.” She explains.

“That’s a pain.” He groans, dreading the fact that he’d have to attend some party instead of catching up on his sleep. “Is attendance required?”

“Ah, and the boss wanted to inform you about a fountain of vintage wine…?” Her voice trails off as she reads her notes.

That immediately catches Chuuya’s attention. Mori surely knows his weaknesses. But if it’s expensive vintage wine in exchange for his sleep, then it’s probably okay. “What time is the party?”

“8pm, the boss is anticipating your attendance.” Higuchi gives him a slight bow before leaving.

The ‘fountain of vintage wine’ wasn’t a lie though. Mori did invest on a fountain of wine costing who-knows-how-much each bottle. And his reasoning was,

“If it’s the only way I’d get my favorite employee to attend then it’s worth it.”

Don’t get him wrong, Chuuya isn’t antisocial or anything like that and he would attend events like this. That’s if he isn’t working overtime almost every night and sleeps four hours a day at most. He loves his job but sometimes it’s too much.

Chuuya spent most of the night beside the wine fountain. By now he’s had about four glasses and is definitely drunk. Tachihara asked him if he wanted help heading back to his room but he waved it off with a cool “My brain is still functioning.”. Well, his brain really is functioning, right?

He headed out of the ballroom, disregarding the fact that he’s still holding a half-full glass of wine. Honestly speaking, he doesn’t clearly remember what floor his room is. Just that it’s the same floor as the oversized gym the cruise managed to have.

Chuuya went inside the elevator, clicking a bunch of buttons on his way in. He doesn’t have a plan onto how he’ll find his room since he couldn’t think straight by now but it wouldn’t hurt to try and look for a big room with a huge grey metal door, would it?

He gets off on the 12th floor, or was it 13th? He didn’t pay attention to it all. Chuuya strolls along the long hallway of the cruise humming a cheerful tune. After bumping into a few potted plants on the way, he reaches a grey door. Not even bothering to read what the shiny metal plate outside it says, he flings it open.

“Why hello, beautiful. How can I help you?” A voice asks him. He looks up and holy shit, who is this breathtaking man? Chuuya doesn’t have a habit of crushing on strangers but… well, damn.

“You…” Chuuya attempts to say.

“Me? Ah, right. I’m Dazai Osamu, the staff captain.” The stranger introduces. “May I ask for your name?”

“C-Chuuya. Nakahara Chuuya.” He croaks out.

“Chuuya-san, has anyone ever told you that you have beautiful eyes?” Dazai asks as they make eye contact.

Chuuya tries to process what he just said in his mind. Is he…flirting?

You’re handsome.” Chuuya didn’t mean to say it out loud but the words rolled off his tongue so naturally.

“I’m flattered, Chuuya-san, but are you drunk?”

“W-Who? Me?” Chuuya points at himself. Will Dazai be turned off if he lied and said he wasn’t? “…no.”

“Ah, I see.” If what he said was sarcasm (it most definitely was), Chuuya never noticed. “Well then, Chuuya-san, what are you doing here?” Dazai asked.

Here… he’s at the kitchen isn’t he? Dazai did mention that he was the captain or something. The chef captain if Chuuya isn’t mistaken (he is). The kitchen is equal to food, so…

“Oh um, I wanted to see the brilliant chef behind all those amazing dishes…?” He lied.

“Dishes? Chef?” Dazai asks, confused.

“I mean, you are the chef captain, aren’t you?”

“Ah right…yes…I, Dazai Osamu, am in fact the chef captain.” Dazai plays along, placing his right arm around Chuuya’s shoulders. “Let me show you the kitchen, my dear guest.”

They walk around the room, there were windows all around which is very peculiar for a kitchen, Chuuya thought. But eh, who cares? There’s a handsome stranger who’s giving him a private tour.

“Please sit here, Chuuya-san, as I get our limited edition dish which is only available to the VIP customers.” Dazai tells him and Chuuya is more than happy to follow. He sits down on an armchair-looking seat and patiently waited for his meal.

A few minutes later, Dazai returns with a bowl of ramen on a tray.

“Here you go, sir. Our limited edition seafood ramen.” Ramen? Well, it isn’t what he thought of but maybe the taste is… nope, it tasted just like the instant ramen he had at home. But nevertheless, this is Dazai’s limited edition dish so he must give an incredible feedback.

“This is astounding! It rivals those of 5 starred restaurants!” Chuuya applauded.

“Thank you, sir! I’m glad you enjoyed it.”

Chuuya finishes the dish in a matter of minutes, handing the tray back to Dazai afterwards. He checks his watch, it was past midnight. He is getting sleepy but at the same time, he doesn’t want this interaction to end.

“You seem tired, Chuuya-san. Shall I walk you to your suite?” Dazai offers him.

Walking…him…to his suite?

“Who am I to decline your offer, Dazai-san?” Chuuya says, standing up.

It was quite an intriguing offer. Except, the moment they walk to the door, Chuuya collapses and falls asleep.
