It was now New Year's Eve and everyone's talking about their New Year's resolutions.
"Have any New Year's resolutions?" Hagakure asked Kaminari.
"Don't really have one." He said without hesitation.
"Come on, Denki," Mina said. "You got to at least have one in mind." He thought about it for a bit before giving them his answer.
"I'm gonna date Jirou." They we're unimpressed.
"That's what you're already doing." Kirishima said.
"I know." Kaminari said with a smile on his face.
"Anyone else have a good one?" Mina asked.
"I'm gonna take Bakugou with me to a different country before graduation." Kirishima said.
"That's actually sweet." Hagakure said.
"Which country?" Sero asked.
"Don't know yet," Kirishima admits. "But it might be either Europe or America."
"Sound pretty awesome." Sero said. "Mine's is to find someone before graduation."
"Tired of being the third wheel." Mina said to him.
"Kind of." he said. "And also been seeing someone so.."
"That's sound manly." Kirishima said with a smile on his face.
"What about you, Mina?" Hagakure asked. "What's yours?"
"Uh." Now Mina didn't really think about it much, heck she didn't really care about it, but she does like hearing other people talking about theirs.
"I don't really know honestly." she admits.
"Really," Kaminari said. "Weren't you the one who dragged me for not having one?"
"Oh whatever," Mina said to him. Just then the door begins to open and soon they could see some of their classmates walking in with some bags that they are carrying, probably for the Festival. Among them was no other than Momo Yaoyorozu, a girl with a creation quirk, a girl who's their vice president, one of the smartest students in their classroom... a girl that Mina has been crushing on ever since their first day as First Years. Heck, just seeing her made her heart skip a beat.
"Hey Mina?" Hagakure said as she taps her shoulder. Mina came back to reality and got a bit startled.
"What?"
"You're doing it again." Hakagure said.
"What are you talking about?" Mina said as she tries to laugh it off. They weren't buying it.
"Isn't it obvious," Kaminari said to her. "Ever since we went to her house to study, you couldn't stop staring at her."
"N-no I wasn't." Mina said to him.
"Just admit that you like her," Kirishima said.
"Yeah come on," Sero said.
"Admit you like her," Hagakure said as she poked her shoulder even though it didn't really hurt. She was getting a bit annoyed with the teasing, but even she knew that she has a crush on her.
"I do like her, I'll admit." Mina said. "But I don't know if she likes me that way." They all agree and nod in sync. Just then Hagakure had a good idea.
"Why not make that your New Year's resolution!" she said excitedly.
"Yeah," Sero said. "Ask her out."
"I told you," Mina said. "I don't know if she like me."
"How about this," Kirishima said. "Why don't you just kiss her at midnight tonight."
"Yeah!" Hagakure said. "A perfect way to start a New Year!"
"N-no way!" Mina said.
"Why not," Kaminari said. "You just simply go up to her as we count into the New Year and by the time midnight comes around you kiss her."
"I don't know," Mina said.
"I mean what you do got to lose?" He said. "If she kisses you back, great!"
"What if she doesn't?"
"If she doesn't, just tell her that it was New Years thing or something." She didn't like that, neither did their group.
"At least give it a shot." Sero said.
"Yeah," Hakagure said. "You have to at least try it once. Who knows, she might like you back." Mina thought about it for a bit. If she does this, she won't have to wonder, but what if she doesn't like her that way, Oh God What if she ruins their friendship with her...
"Mina?" Hagakure tap her again. Mina took a deep breath a spoke.
"I'll do it!"
"Woo!!" Hakagure yells with excitement as she wave her arms in the air along with everyone else.
'Here goes nothing.'
10:50 pm
The Festival was alive and filled with color. Everywhere there was people celebrating, eating some good food, playing games, and just hanging out with some friends, family members, or their significant other. Most of the UA students are either hanging out by the grass or just walking around seeing the excitement around them. Mina was walking with her little group, well, mainly Hakagure, Momo and other student who knew Momo (don't ask who) and they were just enjoying what's around them.
"This is really exciting." Hakagure said to Mina as they were walking behind them. "You get to finally kiss her.."
"K-keep your voice down," Mina said to her. "She might hear us."
"Don't worry," Hakagure said as she took a piece of chip from Mina and eats it. "I won't say anything and besides she can't hear us.."
"Did you guys say something?" They both got startled when they heard Momo talking.
"Oh, nothing." Mina said with a smile. "We were just talking about the fireworks." Momo wasn't really convince, but she just smiles and continues talking to her friend.
"That was close." Mina said quietly.
"Really close." Hakagure said as she took another chip.
"Quit taking my snacks." Mina said to her.
"What I'm hungry."
11:40 pm
As Momo was talking to her friend, both Mina and Hakagure were on the other side playing a tossing game, well Hakagure was playing the game and losing for the 10th time while Mina just kept looking back and seeing Momo talking to her friend. Even though she wasn't the jealous type, she couldn't help but feel a bit conflicted of seeing Momo with another girl.
"Mina," Hagakure said, but she then could see her pink-skinned friend looking over at Momo with another girl. From the look on Mina's face, she couldn't help but get even more excited. "Are you getting jealous?"
"What?" Mina said to her. Hakagure could see Mina's skin turning into a lilac around her cheeks.
"You are!" Hakagure said excitedly. "You're even blushing too, OMG THAT'S TOO CUTE!" Mina felt her cheeks getting hot and sure enough she just covered her face with her scarf as well as her hands and even a bit defective too.
"Ah! THIS IS TOO CUTE!"
"Quit it please." Mina begs. "She might see me."
"She's not even looking." Hakagure said as she looked over. "Oh God she's coming this way."
"What?!" Mina looked through her hands and could see Momo walking towards them.
"Hey Yao-momo." Hakagure said as she waves at her as well as standing in front of her bashful friend. Momo smiles at her and spoke.
"Can I be with Ashido-chan alone please." Hakagure went silent while Mina got even more red, but manages to cover her face with a scarf.
"Sure," Hakagure said as she patted Mina's shoulder. "I'm sure you two have something to discuss alone."
'Really Toru!' Mina thought annoyed.
"See ya two next year!" Hakagure said as she giggles which made Momo smile and made Mina calm down a bit. Before she left, she went up to Mina and whispers to her.
"You got this." She left and now it was just them two. Mina was able to calm down a bit and spoke.
"What is it that you want to talk about?"
"Um," Momo said. "Do you want to watch the fireworks with me." Mina went silent. "That is if you want to." She took a deep breath and spoke.
"I like to." When she said that, Momo just smiles at her.
'What a beautiful smile.'
11:45 pm
They were now just sitting on a blanket that Momo have brought with them. They were just waiting for the fireworks to go off while eating some snacks that they have brought. Mina was sitting next to her which made her heart skip a beat. Now Mina is known to be the chatterbox of the class, the one that never shuts up, the one that has been told to keep quiet, but as of right now she doesn't really have anything to say like she just went mute, however she was talking up a storm inside her mind.
'Okay, almost time...just wait a bit longer...once the countdown starts and the fireworks go off, just kiss her...'
Even though she has a plan that she must go through, at that moment she felt like she was going to pass out. To keep herself from doing that, she just starts looking around the area of where they were sitting and couldn't help but look at the couples that were sitting together either holding hands, sitting so close, and she just felt happy for them. Until recently, she has never really fell in love with anyone, she did have a few crushes back in middle school, heck she even dated someone for a bit, however, though when she found out that she does have feelings for someone, she couldn't help but feel anxious. She had feelings with someone, not just someone, but with Momo Yaoyorozu. This was all new to her so she was naturally scared, but also at the same time she was also excited to have the opportunity to be in a real relationship, that is if she likes her back...
"You excited about the fireworks?" Momo asked. Nothing. She looked at her and could see that Mina was lost in her own thoughts. "Ashi-Mina?" She then tap on her shoulder, but when she did that Mina almost screamed, but she manages to keep her cool even though the lilac color came out a bit.
"Wh-"
"Is something wrong?" Momo asked. "You're not really talking as much."
"O-oh it's nothing." She lied. "Just waiting for the fireworks to come off." Momo just smiles at her and took a chip from her bag and eats it.
11:50 pm
Five mins went by. The fireworks were getting set up and almost everyone was here at the grass just waiting for the light show. Both Mina and Momo were still at their same spot just sitting there quietly.
'AH! This is awkward!' Mina thought. 'I can literally talk to strangers and yet I can't even talk to Momo! I need to say something to her!' she took a deep breath and spoke.
"So, have any New Year's resolutions in mind?"
'Nice one you idiot!'
"Let's see," Momo said as she thinks about it. "Work on my quirk and study more."
"That's it." Mina said. "That's what you do already."
"Well," Momo said. "I do have one more." Now Mina's getting curious.
"What is it?" When she said that, she could see Momo getting a bit bashful.
"What's yours if you don't mind me asking?"
'dont tell her, dont tell her, dont tell her.' She could literally hear her mind talking to her. she scratch the back of her head and spoke.
"I don't really know honestly."
"I'm sure you can find one," Momo said to her. "You still got time."
"Yeah." Mina said to her as she took a drink of her water.
11:59:49 pm
Everyone's now finally counting down. With each passing second, Mina felt more nervous than ever before.
'This is it,' she thought. 'It's now or never!' Even so, she wasn't able to physically move at all as if she was glued to where she was.
'Why can't I move? Come on!'
"SIX SECONDS!!!"
Five...
Four...
Three...
Two...
One...
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!" Suddenly the fireworks started going off and heading into the night sky. All around everyone was cheering, hugging each other, kept shouting 'HAPPY NEW YEAR!' and kissing their significant other. As for Mina, she just remain sitting where she was still frozen and also feeling disappointed.
'Dam it! You stupid idiot!' She was mentally beating herself up, heck she even wanted to run back to her room and just cry, but then...
"Mina." She looked over and sure enough, Momo just started kissing her on the lips. It was quick and a bit sudden on her part, but it felt so sweet even though it only lasted about a couple seconds. Momo stops and could see Mina's cheeks turning into a lilac color. For the first time, Mina didn't know what to say.
"T-that's my New Year's resolution." Momo said to her. For a moment, they just stared at each other with their cheeks red and silent. Then suddenly, Mina covered her face and started to giggle uncontrollably. Momo was confused for a bit, but soon she started to laugh too. Mina was able to recover, looked over, and sure enough she went closer to her and kissed her. Like Momo's, it was quick but it was also sweet.
"M-mina." Momo said.
"That's mine too," Mina said to her. "I-I was planning on kissing you too." Momo couldn't help but smile at her which made Mina smile too.
Soon they kissed once again as the fireworks continue to light up the night sky, it was one of the first of the many memories that both Mina and Momo will have and they wouldn't change it for the world.
