Feeling your fingers and toes slowly start to go numb, you shove your hands under your armpits and wiggle your toes. Walking out of the house at this time at night in the cold was probably not a good idea. But to you, you didn't care.
Because you would rather be anywhere else than inside your home right now.
You look behind you--you can see your mother sitting at the table as your father paces the room. She wasn't smiling as usual and you watch as she winces as you hear your father's voice from where you're sitting.
It was times like these when they argue that you hated the most. You hated hearing their shouts to each other. And as much as you wanted to intervene to calm things down, they would fire up hotter. So you have no choice than to stay quiet.
You were in your thoughts deep when you suddenly feel a warm jacket on your shoulders, enveloping your body in a cozy warmth. You grab the sides and wrap it tighter around you with a small smile.
Your neighbor groans as he sits next to you on the curb, getting a giggle out if you. "You're such a grandpa."
"Feel like one too."
Your laughs fade, a comfortable silence taking over between you two.
"Thank you Yoongi." You say, bumping your shoulder against his. He nods his head and looks ahead.
"Wanna take a stroll in the park?"
You jump up. "Let's go. I don't care if I'm in my pjs."
Yoongi smiles and shakes his head before taking your offered hand to pull him up. You both walk side by side towards the park, brightly lit with a fountain at the center. It was a nice place to walk around at night and even more lively during the day.
"You know it's not about you, right?"
You turn your head to face him. "What is?"
He glances at you and points behind him with his thumb. "What they argue about. They don't argue about you."
Looking at the ground, you sigh. "Oh…I know…I know they don't, but it…feels like they do. I don't see them during the day and when they come home, they…nevermind. Forget it."
You slip your arms through the sleeves, the scent of his jacket making you want to inhale once more--it was a nice, comforting scent. But the sleeves were long so you had to roll them up a couple times so you could put your hands in the pockets. Your hands wrap around the hot packs, smiling gently that he must've left them in there on purpose.
Yoongi stops. You stop too.
"No, tell me."
You sigh and shrug. "I don't know…its like they don't even care if I'm there or not. When we went out with our friends the other day, I came home and they were asleep. The next morning I told them what time I came home and you know what my mom said?"
He shakes his head.
Taking a breath, I continue to walk with Yoongi falling into step beside me. "She said she didn't even notice I was gone. My car was gone and she didn't even text me to know where I was. "
Yoongi stays quiet so you continue." My dad was the same. I told them where I was gonna go and they just said 'That's fine honey'. I mean? I just…I don't know… "
"You want them to pay more attention to you?"
"Yes! I just...Seokjin got a call from his mother! He's the eldest of you guys and his mother still wants to know if he's okay. I see other kids get messages from their parents and they start to complain and whine… like, bro, I wish my mom payed a second of attention to me, showed that she actually loves me but no. I could probably be kidnapped and she won't notice until days later. "
You stop next to the fountain, when you see Yoongi lean forward and starts to zip up the jacket until it covers your chin." Your parents are busy people but it isn't right that they don't give you time. Have you spoken to them about it? "
Yoongi was close, his eyes on you as he waits for your answer. "No…"
He tilts his head with a knowing look. "Then you should tell them how you feel about it. Sit them down and tell them. And by the way," he pulls up the hood over your head, "I would notice if you've been kidnapped. You can't go a day without talking to me."
You drop your head, your shoulders moving with your laughs. "Not true! You can't go a day without speaking to me." You say as you poke his torso.
He grins and pinches your nose. "Maybe so, you got a problem?"
You shake your head with a fond smile. "Nope. Thank you for always checking up on me. I like having you as my neighbor and my friend."
He nods and opens his arms. You smile even bigger and wrap your arms around his torso. You feel his lips kiss your hoody-covered head before hugging you tight.
"You're always welcome in my home, okay? My mom loves it when you come over."
You pull away but keep your arms around him, looking up. He was smiling gently. "Do you?"
Yoongi smiles wider now , teeth and gums cutely on display. "I do too."
The End
