Work Header

in the heat of the summer

Summary:

Oh.

Upon the stone wall, sat a boy around their age. White blonde hair tousled and seeming very interested in whatever book he was reading. The warm midsummer sun was beaming down on his face, making his features look even softer.

‘ Beautiful ‘, Hoseok thought.

Taehyung thought otherwise. He tore his gaze away from the boy, to glare at his best friend.

“Seok we’re going to be late.” He grabbed loosely onto Hoseok’s sweater and pulled him further down the road towards the village.

or where, yoongi and hoseok meet in a small town in France and hoseok takes less than a month to fall

Work Text:

“Jimin-hyung sent a selca I’m going to die“, Taehyung dragged the last word along, scuffing his worn trainers against the road as he stared at his iphone. Hoseok sighed and continued down the path, ignoring his best friend’s whining over their mutual friend.

“Dumbass just ask him out already”

“No he’s all over Gguk I’m sure and I-“, Taehyung was cut off by Hoseok gasping slightly, gripping his arm lightly. The other turned to glare at his best friend, to be met with a blushing Hoseok.

“What are you-“

“SHHH..he’ll see us!!”, The red haired hissed quietly, looking further along the path. Taehyung followed his eyeline, and was met with the view of a cottage boarded with a white picket fence. The cottage was certainly pretty, but he was confused as to why Hoseok was rudely interrupting his rant over a building. He was about to state that when the red haired sighed and pointed again.

Oh.

Upon the stone wall, sat a boy around their age. White blonde hair tousled and seeming very interested in whatever book he was reading. So invested, that he was yet to notice the two boys gawking at him.

“Mom is gonna kill us if we’re late with the bread”.

Taehyung’s mother had sent them down to collect bread from one of the many bakeries lining the street. Hoseok had been nervous about talking in a foreign tongue, but of course Taehyung knew some French. The red head had grumbled, saying he thought their younger friend, Jeongguk, was the one who was supposedly good at everything.

Hoseok complained the whole way into town, after all, his best friend had ruined his love life.

< … >

The small room was filled with evening sunshine. It was far too hot, even with the old rickety windows opened fully. Hoseok lay spread out on his bed, sweating profusely. Across the room from him, was Taehyung, standing up by his aisle. His grey hair was swept back with a headband, and his forehead was furrowed with concentration. Hoseok wanted to hit him. He groaned and rolled over onto his stomach, the other barely noticing him.

“Aish, how are you still alive”, he whined.

The grey haired snorted, glancing at the boy on the bed. “Hyung, you seem to forget about the heat every year. We go to France every year and you still complain about the fuckin’ heat”. He continued painting clouds on the canvas, which annoyed Hoseok even more.

“That’s because we always go to the colder regions. What made your family think it was okay to suddenly change to the hottest part of this damn country?”

Hoseok watched the clear blue sky through the window as he listened to his best friend rant about climate change and his mother’s obsession with it. He found himself drifting off slightly, lulled by Taehyung’s deep voice, which he would never admit to the other. His eyelids felt heavy, and he was just about to drift off when he was awoken by a shout of his name.

“Seok! Listen to me”, Taehyung dragged out the last syllables of the word, as he whipped paint on Hoseok’s face. He hadn’t realised he was so close.

“What the hell dude!”

The red haired squealed as he moved across the bed, further away from the offending paintbrush dipped in light blue. Taehyung laughed, mouth forming a boxy smile that their other friend, Jimin, had told Hoseok he loved.

“I asked if you are thinking about that boy...y’know the one sat on the wall?”, the younger enquired, standing up to face his canvas once again. Hoseok blushed, suddenly remembering the blonde haired boy he had panicked over merely hours ago.

The boy was so pretty, dainty looking. Would Hoseok ever talk to him? No, god no.

He glared at his friend’s back as he shook his head to himself. “No i..I wasn’t thinking of him“

“We’ll see him tomorrow once we go down that lane, don’t you worry hyung”

< … >

Yeontan raced down the hallway, nails clipping after him. Hoseok was right on his heels, cursing at the small dog. They had decided to bring him down to the village with them, as long as one of the boys stayed outside the shop with him. It seemed like a good idea, but Taehyung had gotten the dog far too excited playing in the small garden out back, and now he was far far too energetic, even for Hoseok.

“Yeontan wait you-“, Hoseok yelled as he noticed the front door was wide open. He groaned, knowing Taehyung left it open, since the younger was nowhere to be found.

The dog yipped back at the boy, before racing joyfully outside. Hoseok grabbed his leash hanging by the door, before running after him.

He’s going to absolutely kill Kim Taehyung.

The sun was far too hot for this early in the morning, and the red haired still had sleep shorts on him. Thankfully he was wearing socks. Yeontan ran further down the road, narrowly missing cars coming up the lane. How this tiny dog was faster than a sixteen year old dancer, was beyond him.

Small houses and shops passed him as he ran down the path, before he spotted a familiar figure in the distance. A familiar figure sitting on a wall, reading a book. Hoseok screamed inwardly as Yeontan sped up to the boy, leaping onto his lap.

He finally caught up with him, and forced his legs to stop before he plowed into the seemingly shocked boy.

“Fuck I’m so sorry dude my friends dog es-“, his apology died in his mouth as he say the boy up close. He was..beautiful. A doll like face, features the most delicate he has ever seen. White blonde wavy hair and pale skin.

The boy smirked as he caught him staring, and laughed. Hoseok blushed before coming a little but closer. Just to get the dog!

“It’s okay, your dog is cute”, the boy smiled, gums flashing for a second. Hoseok was going to die. The boy’s voice was deep and gruff, not as deep as Taehyung’s, but god Hoseok wanted to fall off a bridge.

“Yeah uh“,

“HOSEOK GOD DAMN IT”

The boy jumped as he heard the familiar yell from nearby. He looked over his shoulder as a disgruntled Taehyung came racing down the road, panting. His grey hair was slicked back with a headband, and his face was covered in green paint. He was wearing a jumper that definitely belonged to the elder.

“You let Tannie get out, i told you to wait for me but Jiminie texted me and then he said he missed me and I cried a little and oh-“, the boy’s rant was cut off as his gaze fell on the confused boy sitting on the wall, petting his dog.

He glanced at Hoseok, who suddenly went very red in the face, knowing his friend was going to make a mockery in front of the love of his life.

“So you’ve met the boy you won’t shut the fuck up about, huh?”, Taehyung teased, a shit eating grin spread on his tanned face. Hoseok blushed even more, moving to elbow the other sharply in the ribs.

“Just ignore him, he just loves to embarrass me in front of total strangers”, he added the last part as he stepped on Taehyung’s foot.

The boy blushed slightly, before smiling a tiny smile. Oh god he was adorable. So soft like a baby and a kitten and Hosoek just wanted to-

His thoughts were interrupted by Taehyung grabbing onto his shirt, pulling him away. He had Yeontan in his arms, the small dog trying to wriggle away. Oh god was he staring?

“Seok? Come on hyung we gotta get the bread before mom kills us....again”

Oh god Hosoek was definitely going to kill Kim Taehyung.

< … >

“The plan is you are going to march up to that boy, and either kiss him or ask him out”,

“Yeah and you’re gonna ask out Jiminie”

Hoseok yelled out as a stone hit the side of his head. The pair were currently lagging behind Taehyung’s family, who decided to go for a long walk in the woods. On the hottest day of the week.

It had been nice at first. Yeontan running circles around Taehyung’s feet, before bouncing through the surrounding trees and leaping up on his mother’s new summer dress. That was until the topic of the “boy on the wall” was brought up by a smirking Taehyung.

The grey haired glared at his best friend, who shoved him back.

“Hyung you know it’s not that easy”, he started, Hoseok has heard it all before. “Jimin-hyung will never like me, he sees me as a friend. He’s always making goo goo eyes at Jeonggukie and I can-“, he was cut off by Hoseok putting his fingers in his ears, yelling out childishly.

Taehyung frowned, and called back his small dog, who was busy dragging a stick twice as big as himself.

“Tannie, attack Hobi-hyung!”

Now, you have to understand. Yeontan loves Hoseok. But he also loves his owner. The little dog turned around, playfully bearing his little teeth. He ran toward the red head, and jumped onto his leg, latching onto his “overpriced” shorts. Hoseok screamed playfully, before backing away and running into a large oak tree on the edge of the gravel path.

Yeontan followed him as he fell down in yells and curses, Taehyung screaming in laughter before jogging over to check if his clumsy friend was okay.

< …>

Hoseok woke up with the sound of playful shouting echoing through the rather small cottage. The familiar sounds of his best friend complaining about something rang from downstairs.

The red haired groaned at having been awoken so early, during a vacation, and fell back asleep. Not even five minutes later, the door to the boy’s shared room banged open, and Hoseok cried inside as he felt a lanky body fall onto his bed.

“Hyung”, Taehyung dragged out the name, whining as he kicked his legs and thumped the figure under the covers.

“What on earth is wrong with you at this time Tae”

Taehyung leapt out of bed, causing Hoseok to sit up in the bed.

“Mom and dad want us to go camping. Said something about it being, educational and benefiting to our health or something so I suggest we go run off to the boy and hide with his family and obviously bring Tannie cause no way am I sleeping in a tent”, the younger all but screamed out, before landing once again on a bewildered Hoseok.

Of course this would happen.

Hoseok giggled at his friend’s dramatics, and patted his head reassuringly. “I’m sure we’ll be fine Taehyung-ah, we’ll only be gone for a night”.

Taehyung growled playfully, and hit the other with a paintbrush he brandished from no where.

“I hope that boy you’ve been pining over shows up as we’re camping, then you won’t be so positive over my suffering”

< … >

The path was long, and winding across dozens of trees. Hoseok was ahead of Taehyung, carrying a bag and a folded chair, whilst the other continued to grumble. The sun was still set high enough in the bright blue sky, and the red haired was sweating. Yeontan had decided that today would be a good day to annoy Hoseok once again, so when the dog wasn’t nipping at his ankles, he was leaping up and trying to bite the bag held in the boy’s arms.

“Tae I swear to all the gods above if you don’t call your dog I’ll tell Jimin im in love with him”

“If you do that I’m telling Gguk you stole his xbox last month”

“Just call your damn ball of fluff”

Taehyung sighed again, the fifth time in the last ten minutes. He sped up slightly, until he came to walk beside Hoseok. Yeontan stopped nipping at the boy to jump into his owner’s arms, which nearly toppled the moping boy over. The rest of the family were nearly out of sight now, with the amount of time Taehyung was wasting sulking. Hoseok could just make out Taehyung’s mother, carrying a cooler full of food. At least they wouldn’t be surviving off canned beans for the next two days.

Oh yeah. They were camping for two days.

“I can’t believe my own mom would lie to me”, after five minutes of peace, Taehyung had started to complain again.

He dramatically shoved his head in his hands, nearly dropping the bag of sleeping bags he had on his back.

“Two whole days Hyung! Two whole days in the middle of nowhere, with no wifi so I can’t call Jiminie, no gimpbap and no soft warm beds“, his complaints were cut off by Hoseok sharply elbowing him in the ribs.

“Shut up dude it’s not that bad, you don’t know how much persuading I had to do so your mom wouldn’t drag us out for a week? Your mom loves me so you should be grateful to have me”

The younger grumbled in replay, kicking stones as Yeontan chased after them. Eventually they came to a clearing in the dense forest. A sign stood by the edge of the path, depicting the area was to be used for camping.

The clearing was large, big enough for three families at least. Hoseok squinted to see a dock at the edge of the trees, surrounded by a vast looking lake. On the other side was another forest trail, leading up to the nearby mountain range Hoseok presumed. It was very scenic, and he knew he’d get some peace here.

“This sucks”

Ah, if his dumb best friend wasn’t so grumpy.

He faced the other, who was currently sitting on the ground with a slightly adorable pout on his face. Sometimes Taehyung could be absolutely adorable. Although now, he needed to stop crying or the elder was going to scream. He grabbed his arm lightly, pulling him to his feet.

“Come on, we gotta set up our tent before the bears get us”

That seems to move the boy, as he took one shocked look at Hoseok and ran to their marked out area.

< … >

“Hyung!”

Hoseok groaned, rolling away from the hands shaking him.

“Hobi~”

“HOSEOK-HYUNG”

The red haired jumped, nearly toppling over the tent. Taehyung sat beside his sleeping back, hair mused and a shit eating grin etched on his face.

“What now you absolute wet sock”, Hoseok grumbled, as he tried to fall back asleep and ignore his best friend.

“Oh hyungie you have to see who’s just entered the camp site”

Hoseok sat up again, confusion fogging his mind. It was far too early in the morning for Taehyung’s annoying antics. They had had a long night yesterday. After a while the other boy had stopped whining and had actually started to enjoy himself. He had helped his father collect wood for the fire, and had messed around with Hoseok roasting marshmallows. They had eventually went to bed with grins on their faces, and had faced each other telling scary stories. Hoseok, being the “wimp of the group” as Jimin called him, was spooked, but was happy to spend time with one of his favorite people.

Taehyung and him had grown up side by side, having been neighbors since Hoseok was three and Taehyung two. Their families had grown close and they felt akin to brothers. Once they entered high school, they met Jimin, followed by Jeongguk a year later. The group of friends had been inseparable from day one, but Taehyung, despite how much he annoyed hoseok, had a special place in his heart. That being said, when Jimin had confided about his feelings towards Taehyung a few months ago, he was surprised to see that Hoseok was okay with it, surprised that he wasn’t dreadfully in love with the grey haired. Hoseok hadn’t been able to sleep for a week after that.

But now the younger was smiling that annoying smile, the smile that indicted he knew something Hoseok didn’t know.

“Just look for yourself hyung”

He dragged Hoseok up from his sleeping bag, and nearly tripped both of them up as they stumbled out of the tent. Hoseok really hoped that it was someone important, that had entered the site. His red hair was tangled and he hadn’t moisturized.

Taehyung stood up straight, and pointed off towards the lake. The red haired squinted his eyes, making out a tent being pitched up by a short man with a mop of white blonde hair. In fact he actually looked quite familiar but he couldn’t place his finger on it.

That was until Yeontan bounced out of the other tent belonging to Taehyung’s family, and zoomed towards the man, yapping like crazy.

Shit.

It was the cute-guy-sitting-on-the-wall.

He was here, in the same camp site, as Hoseok. And Hoseok looked terrible. If the cute-guy-that-sat-on-the-wall- saw him, he’d probably run far far away from him. He growled and punched Taehyung lightly in the arm, who sniggered, and marched back into the tent.

Ten minutes later, Hoseok came out of the tent in a neon green jacket, which he knew he looked good in, and a pair of shorts that came up to his knees. He spotted Taehyung, who had obviously wandered over to “retrieve” his dog, and talk to the slightly shorter man.

Speaking of him, the boy looked amazing. A black headband pushed his blonde hair back a little, and he wore a short sleeved shirt that showed off his slightly toned arms. Even looking that good, that boy still looked adorable and Hoseok still wanted to eat his cheeks.

He walked over towards the boys talking, still slightly annoyed at his best friend. His friend turned around, smiling at Hoseok as he came up.

He gestured towards the boy, who was holding the dog. “Hoseok, this is Yoongi-ssi. Obviously you two have met before but on, strange circumstances”, he giggled, watching as the red haired eyes widened a bit.

Yoongi

Even his name was pretty

Yoongi lifted his dark eyes up to meet Hoseok, smiling gently. “Hoseok...I like your name”

Hoseok blushed violently, going even redder as Taehyung cooed.

“You guys are so cute! I expect grandchildren!”

Hoseok hit the grey haired over the head, growling about their age difference and the disrespect towards his hyung. Yoongi giggled as the younger ran away, Yeontan running after him.

“Ah..well I’ll see you around I guess? Nice to meet you Yoongi-ssi”, Hoseok stammered, dubbing the back of his neck. The boy in front of him was just so pretty, it was like talking to an angel.

Yoongi giggled again, his lips curling around his gums as he laughed.

“Of course Hoseok-ah, and call me hyung”

< … >

Throughout the following day, Hoseok saw a lot of Yoongi. He would’ve thought it was faith or something, but they did so happen to share a camp site. Hoseok was just overly suspicious.

Every time he was ordered off into the forest to collect fire wood with Yeontan, a certain blonde haired boy was seen close by. They always smiled politely, maybe Hoseok stared too long sometimes, but Yoongi never noticed.

He was always close by when Taehyung and him went fishing by the lake. The second time that occurred though, Taehyung forced Hoseok to make conversation. So here was Hoseok. Swimming in his basketball shorts, trying to get over to this small fishing boat Yoongi was sat in. The picture was actually quite cute. The blonde wore a black bucket hat over his hair, and a life jacket over his t shirt. His bare arms were on show and Hoseok could not fall any more in love.

The water splashed over the edge of the small boat and the red haired could hear Taehyung cackle from the shore. He hauled himself up the side, arms straining as he tumbled into the boat. From there he took a breath and opened his eyes, to an amused Yoongi and a black haired boy who looked very scared.

“Uh....hi”, Hoseok could presume his face was very red by now.

Yoongi got up from where he sat, and walked the short distance over to him. He crouched down and hauled Hoseok up, giggling as the boy wobbled.

“Hi Hoseok-ah. Any reason you’re on my boat this fine Saturday afternoon?”

The black haired boy beside him started cackling, his laugh not unlike a windscreen wiper. He was tall, much taller than the other two, and wore a similar life jacket to the blonde.

“Yah I just wanted to uh...see what you were doing hyung”, he rubbed his neck, knowing he was going to kill his best friend later. “Tae and I were fishing earlier and he sucks ass and he wanted me to uh come over and uh yeah”

Yoongi laughed again, and Hoseok swore he heard a muttered “cute”. He grabbed Hoseok’s wrist lightly and dragged him to the hull of the boat, urging him to sit down. He gestured towards the other boy, he smiled an adorable smile. Was everyone his age cute in this country?

“This is Seokjin-hyung, my best friend. He’s over visiting with our other friend, Namjoon, who I’m sure you’ll meet later. Seokjin-hyung this is Hoseok, a friend I’ve met a few times, he’s visiting with his friend’s family”

Seokjin nodded in recognition, smiling and pulling Hoseok in a hug. “Ah I’ve heard about you Hoseok. I presume you’re the boy who lost his dog a few days ago?”

The boy flushed in response, spluttering that it was his friend’s fault. That caused Seokjin to laugh harder, which caused Yoongi to laugh. And maybe Hoseok was definitely falling in love.

So he spent the afternoon with the other boys, Taehyung had abandoned him it seemed, as he couldn’t be seen by the shore. Yoongi had given Hoseok a life jacket, and Seokjin had brandished out some kimchi sushi, his favourite.

He had watched as the other two fished, amazement at their talent. He laughed as Seokjin scolded Yoongi, and blushed ( only the tiniest bit ) as Yoongi’s arm brushed against his several times.

The time flew by and eventually the sky darkened, and the once calm waves became choppier. Yoongi steered the boat towards the shore, and Hoseok swore the ground swayed under him as he stepped out. The campfire was lit as the trio walked towards it, Taehyung already there with his family, roasting some lamb skewers. Hoseok offered Yoongi and Seokjin to eat with them, but they politely refused, Yoongi squeezing his arm gently as they made their way to their own tent.

Hoseok blushed, distacted until he turned towards Taehyung, who had another annoying smirk on his face.

< … >

Hoseok tossed and turned in the impossibly small sleeping bag. Sweat trickled down his forehead and he let out a groan of frustration. It was way past midnight and Hoseok swore he could hear a creature outside. He looked over to Taehyung sleeping in the bag beside him, curled in on himself. The boy looked way too cute asleep and the red haired loved him too much to wake him over for stupid reasons.

Maybe Jimin was right when he said Hoseok was a wimp

Lovingly of course

He sighed again and wriggled himself out of his sleeping bag, and tip toed quietly towards the make shift door. The zipper caught and he cursed, but he eventually got it to open. Outside it was pitch black, even the moon not giving much light. The camp fire had gone out hours ago, leaving soft embers burning.

The moon shone slightly on the gravel path connecting the sites together, and Hoseok wandered past where Yoongi tent was pitched. No light shone from the material, so Hoseok presumed he was asleep. Why was he even wondering?

The water lapped at the lake shore, the light from the moon reflecting on the waves. It looked so beautiful, so serene. Surprisingly the weather was still warm even after the sun went down, the water still giving a gentle heat.

Hoseok walked over to the small wooden pier, contemplating on going for a swim. No one would notice, Taehyung was a deep sleeper. Besides, the water would help lull him to sleep. He slipped his shirt over his head, and dipped his toes in over the side. Deciding the water was warm enough, he jumped in, sighing as the water lapped at his slightly sore muscles. Having Taehyung as a best friend was like being a parent to an overly hyper child.

He swam laps around the shore, ignoring the edging fear of creatures. After tiring himself out, Hoseok floated on his back, watching the stars twinkle ahead. He was so engrossed in the sky, that he failed to hear the shout of his name, until the second time.

“Hoseok-ah!”

“Hoseok-ah?!”

The red haired jumped in the water, causing ripples to form around him. He looked up, over towards the pier. That was a mistake, as he spotted Yoongi taking off his shirt, his lean body plunging into the water.

Oh god oh shit.

Hoseok swam closer to the pier, trying not to blush as he saw Yoongi with his soft blonde hair darkened by the water.

“Hyung? What are you doing up this late?”

“It’s only like two in the morning Hoseok, and besides, I could ask you the same thing”

Yoongi grinned, gums showing as his eyes crinkled. He looked so ethereal in the moonlight, cold water lapping at his pale shoulders as he threaded the water beside hoseok.

“I couldn’t sleep and I...thought I heard something outside and so I decided to go f-“, he was cut off by loud giggles, Yoongi nearly sinking below the water from laughing.

“Oh god that must’ve been Joon-ah, he sleepwalks and then he stumbles and Jin-hyung has to help him then they fall down together and hyung blushes cause he’s so far gone for the clumsy idiot you should see it sometime”

Hoseok looked on as the blonde laughed, and then started to laugh himself. The image was funny, and reminded him of his own pinning idiotic friends. He looked on as Yoongi continued to laugh, a lovely sound he could so get used to.

They swam a lap across the shore, before climbing up to sit upon the wooden pier. Yoongi had ran back into his tent to grab two towels, throwing a blue one over the red hair’s shoulders. They sat a few centimeter apart, and Hoseok tried not to glance down at the other’s barely clothed thighs. He dipped his feet into the cool water, as they sat in comfortable solace.

It was slightly unnerving for Hoseok, as the pair had only gotten to really know each other over the last two days. Yet, he still didn’t know much. Apart from Yoongi’s love for his dog, and the fact that he grew up with this Namjoon guy, who was apparently younger than Hoseok.

He didn’t know why Yoongi, fluent in Korean and French, was living in the country. He glanced back at the boy, who was staring up at the sky dotted with stars, blonde hair dripping wet.

Fuck it.

“Hyung, this is gonna sound weird and nosy, but uh..”, hoseok trailed off, noticing that his question could probably make the other uncomfortable.

Yoongi laughed, and placed a cold hand on Hoseok’s knee, which instantly stopped bumping due to nerves. He smiled an easy smile, dark eyes all dark and pretty. He kinda looked like a cat? Hoseok snorted inwardly at the thought.

“You’re wondering why I, a Korean, is living in a small village in France?”

With a timid nod from the red haired, he continued, looking off over the lake as he spoke. He still hadn’t lifted his hand off Hoseok’s knee.

“Well it’s pretty simple to be honest. I moved to the country when I was about ten. I lived in Paris with my mother and father, my older brother had stayed in Deugu for university”

Hosoek nodded, showing he was listening as Yoongi glanced at him.

“My uh..my father died three years ago. So my mother and I moved to this village to get away from the city. I know Seokjin and Namjoon from home, and they visit every year”, Yoongi’s mood had evidently deflated at the mention of his father, and Hoseok panicked.

He grabbed the hand on his knee gently, causing Yoongi to look at him. Oh god, he was not great with emotions. Usually if Taehyung and Jeongguk were sad back home, Jimin would be the one to comfort them. Hoseok was not good at this.

“Yoongi-hyung I don’t know what to say. I’m so so so sorry about your da-“

His panicked words was cut off by Yoongi suddenly hugging him, wet towel brushing against his chest. The contact was warm, and Hoseok would be lying if he said he didn’t feel butterflies in his stomach, as cliche as it sounded.

“It’s okay Seok, please don’t apologize. I’m okay, I’m happy now”, the blonde let go of the other boy, straightening up to smile warmly at him.

He suddenly stood up from where he sat, and grabbed Hoseok’s hand. The boy squeaked in surprise, his hair matching his face.

“Let’s get inside, you must be freezing, and here I am, your hyung, letting you get cold”

< … >

Hoseok didn’t know how he had ended up here, but somehow he did. They had only came back from the campsite a day ago, and now they were doing exercise. Again.

He scowled as he watched Taehyung up ahead, chatting excitedly to Seokjin and Namjoon, Yoongi ever further ahead of them. It was the middle of the day, and they were climbing up this dusty mountain path, to the very top to have a picnic, as Namjoon had so lovingly said.

Namjoon was very tall, which kinda intimidated Hoseok. But he was so very kind, his eyes would crease into a dimpled smile, and his blonde hair made him even more soft. He was a gentle giant, if anything. Except for when he wanted to go on a big hike up the side of a mountain in boiling hot weather.

As Yoongi insisted on them going for a “traditional” picnic, they were all made to carry wicker picnic baskets. The handle dug into Hoseok’s hand as he carried on, nearly tripping over a stone on his way.

“Why couldn’t we have brought Tannie, he would’ve loved it here”, Taehyung could be heard complaining a few steps away, adding whines as the others told him to stop.

Eventually they had gotten to the top. The top being more grass, and a few trees. At least from where the red haired could see.

Except when he got to the top, it was..beautiful.

The hill looked over the quaint village, surrounded by little puffy clouds due to the height they were at. Hoseok was amazed, and was thankful that Taehyung had decided to bring his paints.

He turned to Yoongi, who was already watching him, a small small etched onto his face as he watched the younger look at over the town. “This is beautiful hyung, I would ask you how you knew about this place but you grow up here so”

Yoongi chuckled at him, smiling as he set down the blankets in his arms. Seokjin snorted, dripping the bag he carried as he walked over to Hoseok.

“You’re lucky, Yoongi-ah brings us every time we’re here, it’s nothing really spec-“, Seokjin groaned as he was smacked over the head by Yoongi, followed by Taehyung cackling.

“Just shut up so we can enjoy ourselves, asshole”

The picnic spread was large, with having five teenage boys carrying many goods up a mountain. Taehyung’s mother had made him bring some bread from the village, as it was seemingly her newest obsession. Yoongi had made some kimchi fried rice as well as some kimchi sushi, and Hoseok’s mind wouldn’t stop saying he made it for him.

Cause he didn’t.

Seokjin had baked some bao buns, with pork belly that Hoseok swore he could’ve cried over. Seokjin laughed and laughed as namjoon explained that he had only brought pink lemonade as he apparently couldn’t cook.

Hoseok thought his dimples made up for it.

The sun was slowly setting in the sky as Hoseok watched as Taehyung challenged Seokjin to a wrestling match...on the grass. Yoongi was leaning back against an oak tree, snorting as the grey haired squealed. He was so close to Hoseok, that if he just moved a little over to the left...his head would fall on his shoulder.

The thought was tempting as the younger grew more tired.

“HYUNGS HE KICKED ME”

Hoseok groaned as he was awoken from his thoughts, to the peculiar sight of Seokjin laughing his head off as the grey haired lay on the dry grass, pretending, and failing, to seem hurt.

“Jin-hyung just kick him harder”, Hoseok jeered, watching as his best friend got tumbled further into the grass. Taehyung screamed more as the pair then processed to roll down the hill, much to the red hair’s delight.

Yoongi snorted, turning over to where Namjoon lay, snoozing in a patch of low sunlight.

He turned towards Hoseok, smiling smugly. “I hope Joonie wakes up and beats hyung up for cheating on his ass”.

Hoseok startled in surprise, face resembling a severe look of surprise.

“Namjoon and Jin-hyung are dating?!”

Yoongi turned to glance at the blonde asleep, presumably to check if he had woken up from the shout. He shook his head, smiling in an endeared fashion.

“No no, the two idiots are just pining and too pussy to tell each other. It’s sickening really”

The red haired nodded, looking at Yoongi as the elder brought his head back to rest against the tree. His white blonde hair was over his eyes, and a silver earring dangled form his ear. He looked so beautiful, so peaceful. Hoseok could maybe have pinpointed that as the first time he had fallen from the other.

“I think I know how they feel, it may be too early to tell, but I can relate”

Shy from the slight confession he made, Hoseok quickly put his head on Yoongi’s shoulder, content with hearing the slight beat of the other’s heart.

< … >

“Tae I swear to god if you take one more photo of me I’m gonna stomp on yo-“

The side gate crashed open against the wall of the house, causing Hoseok to spring up from his lounge chair with a shout. Taehyung laughed as both boys turned to the source of the noise, that being a panting Yoongi. He wore a red and black Fila jumper and looked good as fuck. Hopefully Hoseok hadn’t said that out loud.

“Hoseokie, wanna come out and explore an abandoned house with me?”, Yoongi rushed out the words, walking over to the red haired.

“Uh, hyung i would but I kinda”, hoseok tried to explain his fear of all things paranormal, but his asshole of a best friend cut him off.

“Seok-hyung is a massive pussy Yoongi, he definitely won’t wanna come”

Yoongi smiled down at Hoseok, shaking his head in clear amusement. He reached out a sweater pawed clad hand, Hoseok grabbing on absently.

“We don’t have much time, I’ll explain on the way, there’s nothing to be afraid of”.

Hoseok blushed slightly, ducking his head as Yoongi pulled him up from his chair. Taehyung “ooo’d” as the pair left the garden,  banging the side gate shut as they left the house.

They set off down the lane, Yoongi still gripping onto the younger’s hand. A side glance told Hoseok that he was nervous, which instantly made himself nervous. Probably sensing the red haires fear, Yoongi cleared his throat before explaining.

“Okay basically, this isn’t an abandoned house. The owners are gone for the evening, up until seven”, Yoongi took out his phone, clicking the home button to reveal a photo of a cat. The time read 2:30.

“So we have a few hours before they come home. They’re rich as fuck and the house is nice, we can swim in their pool”

Hoseok hummed, giggling at his friend’s excited manner. “Alright hyung, as long as we don’t get our asses kicked, I’m hyped”

They continued on down the familiar path towards the village, before turning a left up into a hill path. They walked up the slight steepness, chatting as they went. Eventually a large house came into view, white and framed by dark green bushes. The house was backed onto a cliff, waves could be heard crashing down below.

“Here we are”, Yoongi smiled big and gummy, letting go of Hoseok’s hand to lead them towards a big metal gate. There a black camera could be spotted, watching them with a glaring red light. Hoseok was about to warn Yoongi, but the other had cut the wire before he could say a thing.

“Dude!”, he gasped, looking back down the path as if someone would have caught them. “They’ll notice the cut wires, you promised we wouldn’t get our asses kicked!”, Hoseok whined.

The blonde laughed, and walked back over to the panicking boy. He grabbed his wrist, softly pulling him towards the gate.

“Aish, no need to worry Seokie, i know how to fix them once we’re done”.

Hoseok felt a shiver down his spine, and was slightly weirded out at the attractiveness of that statement.

< … >

The house was even fancier inside. Everything was covered in white fur rugs and there were white glass chandeliers in every huge room. Yoongi had seemed to know his way around the place. He pointed out expensive antiques to Hoseok, and told him stories of him and his cousins (who flew in from Korea for summer and Christmas) and how they would spend hours exploring the rooms and vast hallways.

At every slight bang or sound that made Hoseok jump, the Yoongi would always softly intertwine their hands together, smiling sweetly at him. Hoseok could feel himself falling further in love with the other, which sacred him. He was due to fly back to Gwangju with Taehyung and his family in the next week.

They had spent the whole day in the house, running around and playing games, Hoseok had never felt happier.

The sun had started coming down as they sat on a window sill. Yoongi had opened it slightly, so they could swing their legs over the ledge. Of course, Hoseok had grabbed onto the elder’s hand tightly.

“I know this sounds really cheesy Seok, but I’m happy I met you. I know you’re going home soon but I hope we can still talk. Maybe you can spend summers here, like Joon and Jin-hyung do?”, Yoongi whispered slightly, not looking the red haired in the eyes.

Hoseok felt his heart clench at the thought of seeing the blonde again.

“Of course I will, I like you a lot hyungie”, Hoseok beamed, his lips forming a heart as he giggled.

He could really really fall in love with Yoongi.

“Ah, you think so?”

“I like you too, hyung likes you a lot, Seok-Seok”

The sun had set a little bit more, casting a slight pink glow upon the pair. Yoongi was watching Hoseok, who was looking off at the distant waves. Hoseok turned as he felt a soft hand grab his face gently. He blushed in surprise. Suddenly Yoongi was....much more closer.

His eyes were focused on Hoseok, fluttering down to his lips. He was going to kiss him, and suddenly Hoseok was going to fall. A hand came to rest behind his hair, and pushed him towards the blonde.

“Hyung likes you a lot”, Yoongi whispered, still focused on his lips. They were so very close. So close. Until a loud bang sounded behind them. Hoseok let out a scream, nearly falling off the window if Yoongi hadn’t grabbed his arm.

A couple stood by the end of the hallway, looking beyond furious. They rushed towards the pair, screaming something in French. Hoseok shook in fear, knowing that they would get into serious trouble if they didn’t escape now.

“Seok, stay here I’ll explain”, Yoongi whispered urgently, which he shouldn’t have because the couple definitely didn’t speak Korean.

The blonde hopped off the window sill, advancing towards the screaming couple. He calmly stood before them, speaking in fluent French. Somehow that was attractive to Hoseok, don’t ask him how.

The couple eventually calmed down, so much so that they let Yoongi grab Hoseok’s hand, leading him out of the house.

Once they were out in the fresh evening air, Hoseok laughed, coughing as he tried to catch his breath. “What the fuck! How the hell did you get us outta that?”

Yoongi shook his head, laughing as his watched an aspirated Hoseok.

“They’ve known me since I was ten, I used to have black hair so they didn’t recognize me”, he explained, looking up towards the house, now surrounded in darkness.

Oh. Now Hoseok couldn’t help but picture the other with darker hair. It would suit his pale complexion, and brought shivers down his spine.

Yoongi stepped closer to Hoseok, softly clasping his tanned hand in his pale ones. The red haired couldn’t help but notice how well their different skin tones matched. Like it was faith. Hoseok could hear Taehyung yelling in his head about that statement being corny, and he agreed.

“Can...this is gonna sound weird and it’s completely fine if you don’t want to but...”, the blonde looked aphrenrsive, not looking Hoseok in the eye, rather behind him. “Do you want to maybe get dinner tomorrow? There’s this really nice restaurant down the village and I went there with the others a few times and I just really like you Seokie and I under-“

The boy’s rambles was cut off as he was barreled into a bear hug. He groaned as he was toppled over, both figures landing in the sun dried grass. Hoseok laughed, peppering his cheeks with light kisses.

“Oh you absolute idiot, of course I’ll go out with you. I thought I made my feelings clear these last two weeks”

At this moment, as cliche and cheesy as it sounded, Hoseok felt like he was flying. Obviously it was too early, far too early, for his feelings to be completely determined, but he had spent so much time with the other to know his feelings were past physical attraction.

< … >

True to Yoongi’s word, the restaurant was lovely. The pair had set down the road after seven, after much of Taehyung’s teasing words. Yoongi had held Hoseok’s hand all the way, and the younger had tried not to reveal how hard his heart was beating.

The restaurant was small, quaint in the corner of well lit street. Inside the walls were a dark purple, exposed brick with vines hanging. The tables were well spread apart, offering a sense of privacy. Soft jazz music played, which Hoseok was surprised of. Yoongi seemed more of a rap kind of guy.

They sat in a far corner, backed up by a window. A candle adorned the table. Hoseok wondered how the elder could afford such fine dining. The boy was only seventeen after all.

“Hyung this is lovely. Far too nice for me..”, Hoseok whispered, eyes widening slightly at the prices of the dishes written on the menu.

Yoongi snorted, blonde bangs feathering over his eyes as he shook his head. “Nonsense, I like you a lot, you deserve to be spoilt”

Hoseok blushed heavily at that, hiding his face from the other with the menu.

The evening unfortunately flew by, the two finding out little things about the other over delicious food. They laughed as they each teased their friends, hoseok bringing up his two pining best fiends and Yoongi complaining over his own best friends acting married without confessing.

After much debating, dessert was ordered. Hoseok was full beyond content, and happy too. He watch with eyes of adoration as his hyung laughed as he told a story of his mom finding his old mixtape.

He could really really fall in love with this boy.

They eventually walked out of the restaurant, hand in hand, at eleven. The stars were out overhead and the heat had died down considerably. They walked up the lane towards the familiar cottage, and Hoseok felt a hesitate to let go of Yoongi’s hand. And he voiced it, to Yoongi’s amusement.

“You’ll see me tomorrow Hoseokie, hyung wants to have another picnic before you and Tae leave”

“Aish don’t remind me of us leaving. I want to stay here for ever”, the younger whispered, noticing how much closer Yoongi had gotten.

“Surely you can come back next summer, or before that. I can fly to Gwangju even”

They had discussed it considerably, as the group had become closer over their stay. Yoongi had talked of wanting to visit Daegu again, maybe even staying their for university. He missed his brother and his friends, as he only saw them once or twice a year. Now with Hoseok in the factor, he wanted to visit his home country more and more.

Shaking his head clear of thoughts of the future, he was brought back to Yoongi’s even closer face. He smelled so nice, like raining summer evenings and forest pine.

Yoongi smiled softly as he peered closer, watching Hoseok’s cheeks bloom with colour. “Can hyung kiss you, Seok-ah?”, he whispered, leaning in more.

He blushed even more, the others deeper voice doing things to his heart. He nodded, motioning to the other that it was okay. He leaned in and closed his eyes softly, as he felt a brush of lips against his.

His heart stuttered, as Yoongi kissed deeper. There weren’t any sparks as the stories tell, but there certainly was something. He kissed back eagerly, lost in the feeling of euphoria. Yoongi’s much larger hands lay on his hips and he sighed into the others mouth.

Before they could get any further, the front door slammed open. The couple jumped apart, to the laughter of a sleeping Taehyung.

“Ew gross hyungs, pack it up some of us are single”, he cooed, laughing more as he saw the look on his best friends face.

Hoseok groaned, lunging forward to grab at Taehyung.

“I AM GOING TO ABSOLUTELY MURDER YOU KIM TAEHYUNG”

< … >

Plane turbulence always makes Hoseok anxious. He gulped as he sat down next Taehyung, who was far to busy smiling at his phone to care about his rising nerves. A soft vibrate was felt in Hoseok’s red bag he had carried on board. He shoved around the contents to grasp his phone. He clicked on the home button to see a text from his fastly becoming favorite person.

Yoonie hyung:

Hoseok was pulled from his half typed reply to Taehyung yelling. He pulled his head phones off and looked at his friend in concern. The grey haired sat there with a pale expression, shock written on his face.

“Uh...Tae? You okay dude?”, Hoseok asked, worried as he thought he was the only one with a fear of flying.

Taehyung shook his head, glancing at his phone. A glance told Hoseok that his friend was texting jimin, a selca of the pink haired boy shown in a profile picture.

“Jimin. Jiminie-hyung just said he loves me. Dude pinch me”, Taehyung’s voice shook as he spoke and the other was even more confused.

“Okay and? Doesn’t he always tell-“, Hoseok cut himself off as he realized.

“OH FUCK FINALLY THAT ASSHOLE CONFESSED”, he all but yelled, turning back to send Yoongi a bunch of random letters.

Yoonie hyung:
