Chapter 1: Ares of Black Swan

Chapter Text

Formidable. Untouchable. Haughty. Fearsome. Vicious.

That was the impression that was given off by Ares.

An impression that was befitting of one that holds the name of the Olympian God of War.

As a member of the Twelve in Black Swan, Ares was someone who was respected and feared equally within the organization. While the respect towards him was gained from his perfect record of accomplishments and his countless contributions towards the organization, the fear that he garnered was mostly due to his callousness and decisiveness in delivering rational but cruel deeds without feeling the slightest remorse. Moreover, no one could tell what was on Ares’s mind, which only caused them to be more fearful and suspicious of his motives and allegiance.

Even among the Twelve, Ares seemed to hold more authority over the others. Whenever there were squabbles among the members during the monthly meetings, all it took was for Ares to speak out for everything to fall silent. Since the Twelve had consisted of Evolvers with tremendous power, the fact that the other members of the Twelve would heed Ares had spoken volume of his standing among them, especially when there are members who were more experienced and senior than him. The senior members were certainly not content with having their pride wounded by a younger member like Ares, but then again, they knew better than to be at odds with the latter.

After all, it wasn’t uncommon for there to be a change in the members of the Twelve.

While it would appear that Ares was highly-valued by the higher-ups and held in high esteem within Black Swan, he was on his own. Or to be precise, he preferred for it to be that way. Yes, he has subordinates to help him in trivial tasks and fellow colleagues in the Twelve that he would cooperate with from time to time on missions. Even so, he was close to no one, not even Artemis who was his frequent partner in joint missions.

Aside from himself, Ares trusts no one.

He was nobody’s ally, but none would want him as an enemy.
